    I have never seen hay bailed so smartly! All in one pass!! I remember so many times growing up I followed someone driving the truck while I picked up and tossed in or stacked bales of hay that was scattered all over the field. It was hot hard work and you went home tired, but it was a good tired. I have to admit I really miss that life.

    All this GPS, TV monitors, sprayers, bale pads, and the A/C black tinted glass on a tractor! I had a old Farmal, dropped the bales on the ground, or used the kicker into the wagon, what a difference in 50 years! Awesome.

    I grew up on the farm as a kid lots of square bales, we pulled a wagon behind hand stacked.

    I remember when my father would tie the square knot to connect 2 balls of twine, he would crush the knot with his pliers and pull it tighter multiple times and then trim the tails short. Still had a few pull out in the knotter. I like your setup for small squares. Still a lot of work and time but you've made it pretty efficient.

      +Barry Chouinard I'm not sure there is a fool proof way to tie and have them not hang or come loose 100% of the time, thanks for watching

    Wow, am I old. When I was young we had to rake the hay and then go in and bale it. Time has passed me by.lol My dad had a great New Holland 278 baler. That thing could swallow as much hay as you could shove into it.

    I like the set-up u have. raking, bailing and keeping em straight all in one go. back in the day, we had 3 tractors one to make our windrows, one to bail, and one to pull the wagon while I loaded, and it was picked up off the ground loaded and unloaded by hand. worked my butt off all day for $3.00 and hr. for me, as a young teen that was good money. sure wish we had this set-up 30 yrs. ago. I was actually glad when everyone in our area went to round bails. made my work so much easier.

    we used a in place bailer at the barn. the loose hay arrived, it was off loaded and we bailed it. we used wire to time the bales, inserted block to make the bail lengths. a few time I tied the block to the bales. after a few chewing out from my dad I got it right that was old time hay baling. love the work.

    Back in the day (50's) as teenagers we hauled hay from the field and into a lot for $.03 cents per bail. We kept count of the bails and if we hauled, say 300 bailes in a day we earned $9.00 each. The more haulers we had the more hay we could haul in a day. Those were good wages for a high school kid. Probably equal to $100.00 in todays money. Gasoline was about $.15-.18 cents per gallon, hamburgers were $.25 cents each. Small ones were $.15 cents each. Every little town had a mom and pop cafe that served a large plate lunch for around $.75 which included tea. My favorite always was, chicken fried steak, mashed potatoes with lots of white gravy, pinto beans and cornbread. Everything was made from scratch in those days. If you lived in the 50's in rural Texas you will understand but if you didn't, well you missed a lot.

    Losing a couple bales isn't bad at all. The important thing was getting the job done and beating the weather.

    I love the videos! My dad always said I would make a great farmer's wife but never could find that farmer LOL. I did find a John but he ain't no Farmer LOL. We are both learning farm life together. We purchased a tractor and now we are at a point to testing soil I guess. Any suggestions or tips for the newbies would be so awesome.

    Another outstanding video guys! We have just ordered the MF1841 baler, we are just about to go into first cut here in Australia, seeing your work with the MF baler really helps with the decision. How is the fuel use on your new John Deere? Next for us is to replace our 2x old JD6420s, tossing up between a Deere or the Massey 5713

    • @NorthTexasHay
      @NorthTexasHay  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Luke B seems it uses fuel about the same as the new hollands I have. What model Deere are you looking at?

    • @Zomsky
      @Zomsky 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      North Texas Hay we are looking at the 6120R just the same as yours, with an IVT. We are also looking at the 6125M - we can still buy a non-emission engine in Australia with no DPF or DEF On the exhaust - the M with an autoquad is about $20,000 cheaper that the R with an IVT! The Massey Ferguson’s are a little bit cheaper again - but they are a lighter tractor and I’m not too sure about how stable they will be with a loader on the front...

    • @chaosengine9912
      @chaosengine9912 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Luke B if loader then deere because of steel frame. I would buy autoquad because of cheaper and more directly control of the tractor. I habe both on my farm and the autopower is good for the Girls.

    • @Zomsky
      @Zomsky 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      We have over 6000 hours on both our 6420s, they have been outstanding reliability wise. I do like the idea of the IVT but it's a lot of money! I can get the M specced up with ISOBUS and lots of options for the same price as the R. Too many decisions for a simple boy to have to make!

    Wow you guys are really kicking them out of that baler. What is a good average amount of bales you can do in a hour? Is that preservative expensive to apply? Thanks for the videos I really enjoy them

    • @NorthTexasHay
      @NorthTexasHay  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Johndeere5065 around 350 bales per hour and the spray is about 6.25 cents per bale. Thanks for watching

    I see that you have a John Deere 705 Twin Rake, did you have a drive shaft added to it so that you can run your Massey Ferguson 1840 square baler behind it? Great set up.

  • @DesertDigger1
