I have been watching this short for 4 years now I come back to it because it's so simple and so sweet. Ben knew Marco was gay but it seemed both weren't fully out when you see Ben's reaction to the bottle landing on both of them to kiss yet he played it off and took a chance with Marco and kissed him not knowing how he would react. This short is so wholesome and sweet

I'm the same fucking way but then my sister goes and drink stuff out of GLASS WHILE IN THE POOL! It's so annoying that I end up screaming at her for it but manly caus eof safety and stuff I dont like seeing her hurts and she has two left feet so she falls a lot.

Very predictable, however, the acting was extremely believable and photography and lighting were perfectly done. My only question is, why the quick shot of the girl lifting the beer out of the carton. Was it to juxtapose that she was drinking and he was only eating the celery?

So what you really wanted? A climax where someone dies like a regular gay movie.
Far as dreams go, this is very similar to what's been going in the heads of countless boys, whether they placed themselves in the role of Marco or Ben. And dreams are predictable, they are what we want to happen, not what actually happens. Great acting.
This really portrayed very well the magic of a “first kiss” ( the one that happened in the pool). The kiss we saw was the second one.
I really liked the fairy lights as a background. It made it seem like the party was over a city skyline.

Actually, after the opening I thought “oh god” … but then it quickly grew into a neat, wittily written well acted & produced piece, with nice photography as frame. It left me with a smile. Subbed.
Marco is cute and the kiss was super sweet.....

Wonderful cinematography here. Love a lot of the effects and the way the pool "bump" was shot was really awesome...hearing the footsteps as Ben ran then seeing them collide from the under-chair angle was sharp!
Beautiful Coming-of-Age Gay film. One of the best Romantic Comedies I have seen to date! The actors playing Marco and Ben are handsome and have nice chemistry together. I especially loved the pool scene, it reminded me of the film "Dare" a bit (another favorite film of mine). A feature length version of this would be cool. OMG that kiss was SWEET!!!

Okay, I'm with the "what happened to the phone?" group on this one. I believe I've solved the mystery. I can see it at 4:14 when he picks up the phone and then puts it on the lounge chair. It happens fast so you'll have to view it frame-by-frame. To view frame-by-frame, pause the video at 4:14 and then, while still paused, advance about 14 frames using the period (forward) or comma (backward) key. Going forward/backward at the precise point (only takes one or two frames) I can clearly see the phone leave his fingers as it reaches the bottom of the lounge chair. Mystery solved. Now I can sleep.

David Scala’s short film, “Grotto”, features Ben Getz’ Marco in a sweet accidental poolside hookup with newcomer Ben, played by Adam Jepsen. The employment of not one but two artificial devices (the game “spin the bottle” and the clumsy fall into the water) to get the two leads together at the end makes for a plot on crutches, but this is not enough to detract from Ben Getz’s winning performance and Igor Kropotov’s excellent photography. Very enjoyable.
The only drama i see in this short film is the phone getting soaked.
