This artist speaks to me throug the hart. Every live concerts have been like an elevetor for my mental strength. There must be manny off you who feel the same. I concider Janis ian as exeptional, me , a member in the audiënte. I humm this tune when I go out , there is no more pleazure to feel connected with myselve and others. Please spread the love, André Gerritsen
This song is so soothing. It's like a mantra and the more I listened to it, the more relaxed I felt. Thank you Janis for this gift of a song and Christine for the accompanying video. Let's all sing together and make every effort to move towards better times to come.
I couldn't sing along the second time I played after listening to you as I had tears and a shaky voice. I hope to be able to sing this without crying but thank you so very much!!A much need song for our times.
Thank you Janis, you described my day yesterday. Routine. My wife of 40 years has a mass in her lungs. The x-ray on Saturday showed that it has completely enveloped her entire right lung. All the emotions that exist in this experience has taught me that they all stem from the seed of love for another. I focus on the sweetness and beauty that exists in this. I love you and all that you are. Better times will come. They will come.
My beautiful sweetheart passed through the veil on June 1st at 11:11am - June 5th we had her funeral. She is with her Dad who passed when she was 18 months old. I felt to have my niece Sadie sing this beautiful song. It is perfect. Thank you Janis.
I may be way off, still, I wonder if Janis received the recognition she so deserves as a song writer, as a pure voice in singing. I may be off because at 18my life took a huge turn and I did not keep up w/song writers and musicians, artist and such. I was stationed in Gitmo, came back to the States, disco had disappeared, Smurks on Saturday morning, and I didn't know JR or Dallas, or any of that. Somewhere, once in awhile I wondered where that woman that sang 17 went to. And here she is, writing beautifully, singing beautifully, and easing some of the pain in the world.
My mantra every morning and at bed time. Such a timely written ear worm. When I first heard it I thought it was a classic revived. To my surprise a new classic.
Janis, that was beautiful, I heard it via Steve Baughmann's version and Annie and I tried to learn it in a day and sang it for our street at 8pm last night in Edinburgh at the weekly clap for the NHS gathering. I'll try to upload a version, I thought Eric Bibb said it all in his wonderful comments. We met you twice at Swannanoa and I really yearn for those summer nights in the mountains with good friends and fireflies flitting around... Here's wishing health and strength to you from Scotland
Janis, you did it again! What a lovely song for the times, inspiring and beautiful in all ways. Love you and your talent to connect with your fans. Be well and hope to catch you again in concert.
So much gratitude to you for your entire body of work and especially for this song and The Better Times Project. It has brought me tremendous comfort throughout this long period of isolation.
What a gorgeous, hopeful, and timely song! I've loved your work since I first heard it as a teenager, and I thank you for your music, and for this message of hope!
Thank you, and thank you again for making it available to all the other great artists I listen to who are giving this good message a voice. Be well, be safe
After listening to a bit of Gordo I feel inspired and as you have given your inspiration for "Better Times Will Come" I will reveal the inspiration for "Black Winds". I wrote a position paper today in the U-tube comment section of Deanna Lorraine who is fighting against Pelosi on her home turf. A bitter wind blows across the face A bitter wind without a trace Except in the footprints of a dog. Power is the lust in evil hearts Power is the poison so true Absolute is never enough for villains holding the whip. How much is your time worth? Double, half, or over your head Charge the fools who work for you, instead of paying their bread The pounding of their hammers is sweet music saying true I own you, I own you, I own you Issuing forth from the Black Tower at 6th and 52d Like the bile of a demon born and bred The all-seeing eye who began the treads Of slave masters feet upon our heads Black Winds blow, they howl around my head Black Winds blow to try to make me dead Kill me if you will, Kill me if you will For I have landed a mortal blow Which you will never heal Feel my steel as I turn my blade In your vile belly Oh, Ultimate Slave I would reveal my name but for obvious reasons I must protect the innocent. Me. They will have to break Goggle to get my name.
Marvelous, I've always believed you were a superior poet, certainly to myself, though I believe Gordon Lightfoot has the title of Best Poet in The Land. Subjective opinion of course.
Sometimes I come back to this to cry, sometimes I come back to find strength. Thank you.

A bitter wind blows across the face
A bitter wind without a trace
Except in the footprints of a dog.
Power is the lust in evil hearts
Power is the poison so true
Absolute is never enough for villains
holding the whip.
How much is your time worth?
Double, half, or over your head
Charge the fools who work for you, instead of paying their bread
The pounding of their hammers is sweet music saying true
I own you, I own you, I own you
Issuing forth from the Black Tower at 6th and 52d
Like the bile of a demon born and bred
The all-seeing eye who began the treads
Of slave masters feet upon our heads
Black Winds blow, they howl around my head
Black Winds blow to try to make me dead
Kill me if you will, Kill me if you will
For I have landed a mortal blow
Which you will never heal
Feel my steel as I turn my blade
In your vile belly
Oh, Ultimate Slave
I would reveal my name but for obvious reasons I must protect the innocent. Me. They will have to break Goggle to get my name.
Is this song on iTunes music? Can’t find it. Love it!
