Another aspect of robotic surgery is that the surgeon sitting across the room from the Da Vinci robot could just as well be sitting across the state - or country. A surgeon could perform a procedure in Capetown in the morning, and Tokyo in the afternoon.
There is also the possibility of advanced visualization, with the system combining virtual and actual images of the procedure, something that will be hugely helpful to the surgeon.
And the Da Vinci robot isn't simply a robot slaved to the surgeon's controls. It actively seeks to improve the motion of the surgeons hands, reducing tremor, for example.
The potential exists for robots that can work on not only moving eyes during Lasik surgery, but to operate on a beating heart, which moves at glacially slow speeds compared to the lightning-fast reaction time of a robot.

    Robot + AI = Replacement.
