Amen....teach, coach the fundamentals skills of each position on the court...even if you have a 5'6" 5'4" D/S. We had a coach that taught to 'fain' a back-set yet they set forward. You teach this, you will see defensive players bending ankles trying to catch up
if you've paid attention at all to the college game, right side hitters are getting more and more sets...heard of Destiny Hooker? Probably the best hitting female in the world (on hard court) and she hits opposite. There are no absolutes in sport. And in this drill the middle hitter is filling in as the emergency setter...if my opposite (Right Side) is the best hitter on the court, I want my middle setting her. Also, if the setter passed the first ball, the MH would be facing that way to set.
To become a better volleyball player, You will need to increase your vertical jump. And it's possible to increase 2-4 inches in vertical in just 2 weeks by following the appropriate workout program.
The middle is usually not a natural/trained setter, therefore, it is very awkward for a non setter to take a ball from over their left shoulder and set either direction. Facing the right allows the middle blocker to face the setter and still square up without such a harsh change of the angle.
It's all fine and dandy that a team might flip their offense, but that is far from conventional, Jay Es. In fact, I'm even sure the great coaching resource "The Volleyball Handbook" by Bob Miller (with a foreword by Russ Rose) specifically warns against doing this. It's true that right sides are getting more sets, but not more than the outside and oftentimes its the slide going to the MH that defines the action seen on that end of the net. Hooker's great, but most teams don't have a Hooker. I would even say it might venture on irresponsibility to train an entire team on this form of offense when they will likely never encounter an offense ran in that manner ever again. The OH is going to be the strongest hitter the vast majority of the time and teaching the exception rather than the rule seems like a cop out.
Really? I've seen teams whose best hitters were lefties so they flipped their offense, put their OH on the right and the setter came from the back left position and set between the "left" and middle hitters so that their left side hitters were actually now the equivalent of a right side. As a coach, Tyler, you sometimes need to think outside the box.
I may be wrong on this, but I think this was to demonstrate using a MB as a help setter. The MB’s natural positioning is to face right because that’s where the primary setter will be.
+Pépé le pioue Nothing is wrong with a 6-2. It does require a team to have 2 good setters, though. Also, the setter is always coming up to set and they can't block or attack high passes.
I hate running 6-2s. our team does them and I'm a setter. I've never set before but apparently My coach things a 5 foot 7 girl that can hit perfectly should set idek it's annoying anyway and because I'm right side and I'm in front row when our other setter is back row and setting, when we are in serve receive 96% of the time I set first ball for her. but she is never in front so she doesn't set first for me. I am the only girl on my team that plays every minute of every game. we've had 3 tournaments and 9 matches and I've never been on the bench and I hate it. 6-2s are. the. worst.
I absolutely love Russ Rose and his coaching style!
?..
thats willd, i thought his part here was the worst lol

It depends on the team you play for which side you have to face when you set

some gyms offer programs. my team participates in jump training and my vertical increased 3 inches in a month

i find this video useful..nice drill most especially for my HS team
How do you set silently?
VeryNiceCocahingStyle
nice class I like it
it's good
ive played for over 10 coaches and never have we set facing the right side hitter?? thats strange
I don't think it really matters It depends on where the hitter is when you set the ball

why is russ rose at a random training camp in oregon?
Money. To more thoroughly answer your question, he is part of a group of coaches that present at several clinics across the country.

You're suppose to face left side when you set
i think they were just doing that for the sake of the drilll cause the audience was on the right side of the gym

I just figured how to set better on the toilet
