  • When bonefishing is slow, you start to cast at sharks hoping for a response. The bonnethead sharks don't always see your fly, but when they eat, they put up a really good fight. Should have lost both of these sharks at one point but the hook stayed secure! #lastcastadventures #bonnetheadshark #flyfishing

Got a 4 footer back in August 2022. My first one and it fought like crazy. It was more wild than the Southern Stingray and way stronger than the 3 Redfish I got that day too. This looked fun here.

That's a big bonnethead for being 4ft, I'm sure that thing fought like crazy!! They get overlooked but are actually really fun to catch and easier to handle than other sharks in my opinion

Always been one of my favorite fish on 6 pound spinning. Any particular fly type that you’ve found they respond to best?

I bet that's fun! Maybe I'll bring my ultralight rod out there sometime and target them specifically on that haha. They like brown/tan colored flies from what I've noticed. Caught one on a crab fly, another on a shrimp pattern, and then another on a tan game changer. The hard part isn't getting them to turn and notice it, it's getting them to be able to find it and eat it once they see it since it has no smell

What fly do you prefer for bonnets I have had them refuse crab patterns

It depends on the bonnethead but tan seems to work for me, if they can find it. They don't have the best eyesight so you sometimes have to repeatedly hit them in the face before they take it. I've gotten them on tan bait fish and tan shrimp patterns
