Doesn't matter how many times I see these on board vids I'm TOTALLY impressed with the skills of these drivers. I remember hearing that NASCAR drivers are the best drivers in the world.....HA!!!!! I recall NASCAR champ at that time ( I think ) Jeff Gordon getting a ride from Marcus Grönholm in his Ford Focus, all through the video Jeff is like a little kid in total amazement at Marcus, saying things excitedly, "Freak'in No way, Awesome....etc". And then at the end of the ride Marcus rolls the Focus = ) And Jeff is shouting with glee and excitement over it.
They are partnered with DJI, who has some of the best solutions for action video. However for some reason they just decide to keep the potato cameras from the 80s.
It's technically possible to have a better system than this I guess, but GoPros aren't the solution There are cars with GoPro's, see Prokov last years: USELESS Those cameras are not for this, the problem is the electronic rolling shutter those cameras have, resulting in the know issues ( jello effect) when they move (even when the newer ones are very fast they are still not for this by far until they use global shutter). Also there's lot of vibration, and the mounts with those onbord cameras are prepared for that, GoPros are heavy and big and can't be mounted like this ones, and the big size is a problem for the crews). GoPros don't have any lens adjustment (at least the ones I know) they look like "fish eye lens", and I don't think they have any image adjustment, this ones have, so at least the known issues with this cameras are countered with adjustments while GoPros also suffer from the white blow out like this ones, but gopros have the commercial exposure control that is just not suitable for the light changes in rally. The lenses in GoPro's look very cheap (chromatic aberrations and all that). And this ones seem to be controlled easily from afar (not by the pilots, that would be stupid) which is not the case with a shitty GoPro. Another thing the ones I heard...the sound is simply disastrous, maybe newer ones are better. And they're absurdly expensive. Other brands of similar products are not better either. For this use. GoPro has to make an entire different camera from zero, working with a system they don't use now, for a purpose that's not their business right now. They will have to make a camera with global shutter that can make 50-60FPS and for this they have to choose between a too much expensive CMOS or a much cheaper but with less resolution CCD...and if they don't get the right price they'll end up with something similar to this, but untested and without the experience... en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rolling_shutter#Distortion_effects
Wrc give to the people at least 720/50hz onboard videos...this is not acceptable framerate now.especially in wrc+ the video is bad..leave the face cam in wrc+,its useles cam,and get some space from that and compresion better the videos. wake up we have 2017!!!!
This is freaking 2017 and we are still stuck with potato cameras from the 80s. These cameras have no dynamic range at all, the only thing we could see are silouettes of some trees plus completely overexposed sky and snow. The resolution is laughable, yes the video is 1080p but a mashy mess scaled up to 1080p, it might as well be 144p or whatever. It won't hurt to ask your sponsor DJI a few proper cameras.
I don't know if there really are appropiate sensors for this purpose. -50-60FPS -Global shutter (so no horrible rolling shutter artifacts like for example GoPro's have) -High dynamic range -1080p -CMOS -small size Just last year there were finally sensors like this but don't know much about them. So I don't know how possible is something appropiate, better than this... I was just seeing last year's Sweden Onboards and they look better, but at least Paddon's one have some transmission glitches, so Shuggy may be right, only those problems were some blocking artifacts, not a white blow out. I think this white blow out is a setup mistake from DJI, they didn't compensated enough for this much light... All just my opinion.
Stop complaining about video quality, you're not here to calculate the size of the tree during the sprint or looking at the face of every girl in the backside of the road. Yes, the quality is poor but seriously, who care, we're not here for this, if you're not happy with the quality, let's grab your money and go in the place to capture the sprint yourself and stop complaining about things who's probably planned to improve in the next months ... It's not about yourself or about everyone who's looking the replay but complaining isn't the solution, we're pretty lucky to have the replay, does I mention that during the old years, that wasn't always the case.
This is a great video however a video that I would like to see is when they're making the first runs to get the pace notes. Does anybody have a video like that or know of one
Ryan Chevalier In a Road car? Sense? I.mean the terrain is everything but roadcar friendly lol I expected to hear they actually drive woth their rally car, taking pace notes, slowly of course
All i want is to see the drivers inputs and the road from the middle of the car so i can feel the balance and traction and all that. Its insulting to think wed be fine with only this. Like we are in 1918 and cable TV just wants us to watch landscape going by like grandpas who dont even know whats going on.
The camera position here is useless, put the cam between the two seats in the car so we can see the driver/co-driver work!!! Damn 2017 and they still don't have understand that !!
Impressive...! He's Fred Astaire revived, dancing his awesome tip-tap on marbles...!! I'd have liked to be there, next to him (no, wait: maybe...thinking again...I don't want this bad...!)
Yeah, and those sudden corrections immediately before, at 2:23, makes get as well how skill it takes, to "recover the line", when the car starts to make whims (then, when full throttle is even harder). At that speed, wild cat reflexes and a good skill aren't enough: needs a GREAT, skill... better, kinda a real "istinct" (even faster than any skills). Even the minimal steering or gas or brakes flaw, and... you can discover how could be to meet a tree, going at 80/90 kmp...! And is a fact: when comes to skill on ice, that is at this kind of "istinct"... no doubt nobody can hold a candle to Northern European drivers
Watching full screen, in the faster part, around 2:29, not less than 90 kmp, I'd guess... (then, o.c., to guess is a thing, and to know, is another kettle of fish)

Can you please invest in HDR cameras? We are in 2017 and WRC+ still isn't cheap. Thank you.
how i fucking love those onboard videos 😍
Better quality would be nice though :D It's freaking 2017. WRC should partner with GoPro.

The Polaroid Cube is so much better.
Man hit top speed through that straight! So damn cool, but my god it'd be terrifying as well :D What a drive!
Класс!!! Интересно на длинном прямике какая было максимальная скорость?
cmon FIA, please bring back onboards from a proper incar angle. We want to see drivers work, not only road and piece of bonnet

more noeboards pls

Thats true. Even a 15$ CCTV camera would be better as they have much higher dynamic range.
they want you to pay fore better quality videos on their web site
Lijevi Desni I pay for wrcplus and the onboard videos are potato quality as well.
2:30
SPEEEEEDDDD!!!!!
This is a great video however a video that I would like to see is when they're making the first runs to get the pace notes. Does anybody have a video like that or know of one
Reconnaissance is done in a road car at low speeds. Wouldn't be too interesting to watch.

I wish you could hear the pace notes on this video.
Video quality is so low!!! It's 2017 and this looks like something of the early 90's. Who want's to pay for that? 😱😱 sorry WRC but not me anymore.
wow, what kind of talent is needed to be able to drive like this?
The camera position here is useless, put the cam between the two seats in the car so we can see the driver/co-driver work!!! Damn 2017 and they still don't have understand that !!

use GOPRO bruh and it will be 10times better
2:25 - 2:37 right foot glued to the floor Oo
How fast ? Someone knows ?

is there traction control?
Nope. Banned since 2011 at least.
skills 😨
What is this engine sound?
It's the gearbox what makes that whine. If you listen carefully, you'll hear the exhaust sound on the background.
2:11 - let's get totally insane
......-------guau!!
They have a 'no small cojones allowed' rule in the WRC lmao
3:45 Something makes me think that these people are Norwegians. I don't know what...
you might be right..
the track is not like 2016 on this year so many ice
first
You are absolutely correct, he was first in Shakedown. ;)
AMERICA FIRST! :D
