    My sword is really similar of his sword. 170€ from a really good swordmaker in Toledo (Spain) that signs his swords with JT.
    Good swords in Spain don't cost as much as the ones that USA people buy because Toledo is Toledo.

    I don’t normally comment on videos. Honestly, I think this might be my first comment on your channel, even though I’ve been watching for around two years. However, since Shad is someone I also follow and enjoy, I feel it’s important to provide some context and a balanced perspective before people start spamming their opinions or misrepresenting things in the comments. There might be some bias in my comment, but I hope that doesn’t discredit it entirely. Apologies for the small wall of text in advance. :)
    For the record, I’m not a TH-camr, and I’m in no way trying to tell you how to do your job. I have immense respect for you, your expertise, and the way you handle things. I’d encourage you to do your own research and, as always, take what I and others in the comments section say with a grain of salt.
    To give some background on Shad, he has two main channels:
    Shadiversity: This channel focuses on swords, medieval history, fantasy topics, and similar subjects. It’s professional, educational, and generally non controversial. Most of his videos here are fun and interesting, with a purely academic or creative approach. Like with this video.
    Knights Watch: His second channel is geared more toward movie reviews and political commentary. This is where things get more divisive, as Shad is religious and shares strong opinions, especially on topics like LGBTQ+ issues and AI art. While he keeps the two channels distinct and separate, many people struggle to separate his educational content from his political views. As you’ve likely noticed in the comments, reactions to him can be polarized depending on which "side" of Shad people focus on. It’s something to keep in mind when deciding whether to engage with his content, particularly on the more educational side.
    Shad has also written a fantasy novel called Shadow of the Conqueror. It’s a redemption story about a character akin to a fantasy Genghis Khan. The book deals with heavy themes, and some people unfairly attribute those themes to Shad himself, which -just to be blunt- is completely baseless and bs. But, as with anything online, it is what it is.
    In summary, Shad is a knowledgeable and entertaining creator who’s unafraid to share strong opinions and values. While his two channels showcase different sides of him, he does a good job maintaining professionalism and separating education from politics(which is what I respect immensely about him). I just wanted to provide some context so you have a clearer picture of who he is and why responses to his content might vary. Hope this helps and as always looking forward to the content Kip!

      Thanks for putting this up.
      God forbid Kip watches someone who *shock, horror, gasp* might not agree with him politically! 😱
      Wish we could get back to agreeing to disagree, can't tell ya how many creators I roll my eyes at when they get political, but still enjoy their content.
      Don't have to engage with Shad's personal beliefs to enjoy some good arms, armor, and history!

      @KipReacts  12 วันที่ผ่านมา +18

      @rexboi2311 I actually had zero knowledge of anything else he's done going into this. I've also reacted to his "TH-cam is quashing my channel" video, which is in queue. Fat Electrician posts a lot of political things on Twitter/X, and I "No Comment" on certain things if they're outside of my wheelhouse. I don't really endorse any views or ideaology since I'm specifically here for the content I'm reacting to. If it becomes an issue, like I stated in a reaction to Roze of the Recapture by MyMediaChops with his Japanese joke, I explain my issue and move on.

      @@tofuteh2348 eh I think it is. He isn't saying shads innocent of any bad opinions. Just that he has them and is good at separating them. Which I agree with. I never even knew of his politics until someone pointed them out on his second channel. Same with aI I never noticed his views till he explicitly stated them. Normally he keeps his two channels very separate. I'd still say he's worth watching. If only because very few people do things in the fun way he does.

    Kip, I have an honest sword question for you. I have been watching a lot of blacksmiths lately and had a thought. If you had a longsword with a normally weighted blade but an exceptionally heavy pommel, what sort of effect would that have on a cut?
    The sword would be heavier, but if the increased weight was all in the pommel, it should not be really harder to swing?
    My thought was replacing a standard pommel with a tungsten one.

    uruk hai shields are mostly available made from foam, otherwise you would have to commission it from dedicated armor smiths like wimmer arts from germany (in the lüneburg heath).

    The various classifications of swords and even other melee arms does get a bit weird. A part of that is just how many swords there are, many of a specific design often in differences of length for individual owners, so classifying this as a longsword vs hand-in-half really doesn't matter. A longsword, like a hand-in-half, are design for one hand and two hand wielding. A bastard sword, from what I remember reading, is basically the IRL version of a greatsword - which isn't actually a thing, apparently - and is designed for two handed use only.
    That being said, I am a true novice with only a wikipedia level knowledge of anything so... yeah. I could be completely wrong about all of this.

    as for the anduril, definitelly a war word.... needs a larger handle tho... and the ext3nded pomel that basically becomes half of the handle were less uncommon on the one or two of the oakshot types. both on one handers and teo handers.. on the one handers they serm t0 function as t basically give a hand and a half handle in case you need that extra power.
    i personally have one with it, its a longsword but its on the limit of leght, so kinda of a short warsword too. that style of pommel is nice if you like sliding your off hand to adjust grip, the shape gives a more smooth switch from pommel to handle... never really hand a problem of hand slidding off. its too much of a difference in shape and size, if the pommel itself was much thinner like some can be then it would be a problem. also those thin pommels would cause the slidding off problem even if they arent a pseudo handle.
    thoee also result into some more impactful mordhau :valso leds handle wrap to repair from time to time.... a d i just like the way it looks really

    Hey Kip im usally not one to comment but do to the overwhelming support in comments for Shad i wanna clear some things up.
    1. I hope you refrain from reactibg to more of his stuff in the future.
    2. Shad has shown himself in the past to be an increadbly disgusting raceist, homophobic, transphobic and religious zelot and and is denying evolution.
    3. Hes part of an trio on yt of content creators that do to there actions and belives make me question there motives and validity of some of there arguments.
    In the end it is your channel though and i cant force you to not watch these people but im gonna state that videos where you react to these folks i will not watch. The sad truth is that a lot of the sword entheusiast community is filled with racist bigots. • @gachagunweeb5173
    @gachagunweeb5173 12 วันที่ผ่านมา +3

    It's been a long time since I watched Shad stuff, but I do remember his "historically valid" thing regarding Anduril's design is basically what you said.
    Like "fictional designs are good when there is a logic to them WITHIN the fiction that justifies them" (i.e, magic we don't have in the real world, sci fi tech we don't have in the real world, etc.) would change how people approach creating weaponry, technology, medicine and such. So with Anduril as an example, the mix of Dwarven and Elven techniques and design philosophy could believably lead to an atypical design (by our standards) that still holds up within the setting if the setting puts in the legwork to explain those differences. Like "Have your cool design, but if it does not make sense in the real world, please make it make sense in the fiction."
    I remember ending up in a lot of discussions back in the day between people (besides just Shad) who think that way and people who just wanna put the cool thing in movies, games and shows without much thought. Both are fine for creators/viewers, but can't really have a lot of overlap in fan discussions since one group just wants to see the cool sword go swish-swish, but the other group wants the sword to be believable.
    A lot of people are also pointing out he's more of an enthusiast, but a lot of his points seemed pretty reasonable for the fiction side of things whenever he looked at movie fight scenes and fictional swords. Don't need a doctorate in swordology to be right sometimes. That's like saying you need to be a gunsmith to say the Zip .22 was poorly designed. But when he is wrong on a thing, yeah, he's wrong on a thing. I'm a very casual sword enjoyer, so I'll leave that to the people who know better.
