You come over as a genuine guy. Knowledgeable and passionate about the industry you are in. As consumers we need more people like you to raise awareness and issues. Any manufacturers should not be frightened of the truth they should take it on board to improve their manufacturing and customer service. This can only be good for them in the long run. Thankyou.
Good for you Darren, it's nice to have a Trade Professional giving a balanced and factual view. My Elddis ownership was less than 2 years from picking up a new caravan, it literally fell apart, or leaked. However, due to a proactive dealer each issue was resolved but my faith in the Elddis product had reached its endpoint. It amazes me that given Elddis history of poor product QA from their warranty claims from dealers and the buying public that a common organisation like the CAMC wouldn't be running articles on them, highlighting their shortfalls. Maybe advertising revenue outweighs this??
Great topic, it was very interesting and informative. Manufacturers should do a similar blog to keep people and potential customers up to speed with how their businesses and supply chains are going, which I believe would build confidence back not only with retailers but customers as well. Keep doing what you are doing, I find them very interesting and informative. Regards Jeff
I have an Elldis motorhome. I know your content is aimed at caravans, but I find it helpful. Any info you get good or bad surely is good for the consumer. Thanks keep up the good work.
Your giving a honest view , more people need to take note , we learnt the hard way water ingress through this bonded construction has been poor . You only have to talk to the guys who repair elddis , any way really glad to hear they got some QC in place , beggars believe why it was not in place previously !!! But that’s another story
Your discussion is totally warranted and balanced. Caravan manufacturer news is in short supply so I certainly value any sensible content particularly where it helps inform me when making decisions to part with huge amounts of money for these products. It's very valuable to have some industry insight into how manufactures are performing so that I can avoid purchasing substandard products from manufacturers with poor processes and customer service
I wouldn't worry about what Andy has to say. You are producing honest content and you are not afraid to ask the difficult questions. Some so called journalists are only interested in blowing you know what up you know where in order to keep themselves sweet with whoever is paying for the copy. Essentially it's advertising. You are producing challenging and interesting comment. No company can exist for long if its haemorrhaging cash, fact.
@@KillickGreenieRN thanks, I think sometimes you need to sail a bit close to the wind to get things going.. I can’t help but tell it as it is, from my point of view at the time though.
I bought a 2021 Elddis Xplore 554 and it was rubbish. Bits fell off it when I had just picked it up and was taking it home. Bits always fell off it. The build quality was terrible and very poor. I think that there was no quality control at all. The last straw was when we were cleaning it and we noticed that the big front window had been installed crooked. We sold it and bought a fantastic Swift challenger x 880. We are so happy with this van. I would never even look at an Elddis product ever again. Absolutely rubbish.
I wouldn't worry about it. The main problem with this industry is all the taboo about shouting out poor quality. Ive never know a industry get away with so many dire products. Interestingly Elddis didn't allow Andy into the factory for a tour of the new building.
I know it’s probably naive of me, but why do manufacturers keep building what is so obviously rubbish designs? Why, because people have trusted them, thinking they are buying a well designed and well built product that costs a fortune. Looking at the video of the floor repair you posted recently, why use a ply underneath? Why have the plastic body wrap underneath to trap water? I have a 16 year old caravan, it has slightly flared aluminium sides to allow the water to run off and the plastic front and rear panels don’t touch the underfloor at all. I do know what the underfloor is made of, but it’s as good underneath as it was when it left the factory. I think there are a lot of people who have used caravans for years, who like me have lost all trust in the manufacturers. Every trip away I hear awful stories from folk about their van and water ingress and shoddy build quality. So something needs to change at the heart of the industry to win back confidence. I would suggest a return to basics. Too often it’s been about showy looks and gimmicks of graphics and lighting. Concentrate on the basic build quality, get the basics right. That’s how to get confidence back and word will spread quickly if something is good enough.
It is a tricky one and something that does puzzle me, to get a caravan to anywhere near as good as they are is a massive achievement, it’s just some decisions just don’t make sense, but I don’t make caravans, I can only assume there is a good reason for them that we don’t know about.. The trust thing is a massive issue that only of the manufacturers could solve with some progressive thinking.
I've listened to Andy's TH-cam as mentioned by you and I totally agree with your 'In Defence" reply, Andy was a bit contradictory without realising it. He clearly has respect for you and i'm sure you'll get that pint with him. Keep up the great video's 👍
Andy has been putting vlogs out on Elddis as he was in the factory in July , so he,s not going to bite the hands off that feed him. If Elddis were that concerned they would talk to you direct and scotch any bad press , like bring you to the factory and show you how they are addressing the issues they have.
Great video, as usual. I did go and view AJ’s video too for a balanced and informed opinion. I did some digging. The company which owns the Elddis “brand” is actually Erwin Hymer Group UK LTD (EHG). Much has been said about THOR industries and that Elddis are in good form with THOR behind them. But THOR relinquished their majority shares to EHG on 6th August 2024. I suspect that there’s trouble ahead and the mighty THOR has already decided to ditch the Elddis brand or at least put provisions in place for this to happen. Obviously some self-proclaimed industry experts may disagree 😉
Oh, that’s interesting, I can just picture someone tiptoeing away after handing some keys over. Might be the wrong move if they are sorting things out though.
@@nealeTH Yes according to the details held by companies house THOR industries relinquished their majority shares to EHG on 6th August 2024. Bare in mind that the companies are UK and not to be confused with european or other countries. So at the moment THOR hold less than 25% of the shares in EHG UK Ltd.
Great video I can’t believe people are so pigheaded think they can’t go under or their job secure for all alternative. The truth and the the matter you speak the truth some obviously caravan dealers don’t like that. if I was to buy caravan, I don’t care. I’ll come to you to buy one no matter where I lived in the country. keep on making great videos and don’t be scared. He cowards because I do believe people are honest it will get their reward in the end.❤
Hymer Group purchased Elddis and then Thor purchased the Hymer Group. So no matter where the Elddis shares etc are lodged is immaterial Thor own Elddis albeit via Hymer. Presumably they're using Hymer as their Europen hub operations unit. Interestingly Xplore, Elddis and Buccaneer allnow have their own websites which suggest the brands could be fed out to other production centres. It might be sensible to stop having plants all over Europe producing caravans, campers and motorhomes. It could be more efficient to specialise in one of the three product areas and make such products for a variety of EHG brands.
Here's an idea. Why don't there caravan manufactures actually engage with youtubers? I dont mean their "brand ambassadors". They could then help explain any issues they are having, or more importantly what they are doing to improve things. No point in them living in an echo chamber where the only opinions they're getting is from people that are either sycophants or being paid by them....
@@CaravanVlogger I think they do talk to people, and they may see us as armchair manufacturers, who don’t really know what they’re talking about, and to be fair, that might be the case, but I do think they need to engage directly with the consumer. Caravan journalist should be impartial it does seem that certain people seem to be defending the manufacturers even though the quality of the products is not of the quality the consumer expects
Andy did criticise the Sprites in his last video which I agreed with, but only on a few cosmetic issues, but there is no calling out on ongoing problems by the press in general. You don’t bite the hand that feeds you I suppose.
