Well considering the story behind the song, what they went through to make it, and how they made it. I definitely wouldn't say that it's a matter of better... Just a case of personal preference. Music Is subjective of course, but this is a stylized remake type cover of the song, with the group performing them in much different styles in the end. SKZ, they weren't doing doing great at that point 5 years earlier. They were literally on their Hellevator after all. This was definitely one of the worst tests they were given. They had less time to do everything (A day and night, Having to present it in less that 48 hours.) To guide, write, compose, produce, arrange, record demo, distribute lines, learn, perform, relearn new positions, record, and then of course film the MV of it and premiere it... XH dod hve th whole thing as nothing more than fin thing to do. But that too is ok, I'm happy about that, No one should go through what SKZ did. XH just had to rearrange it and practice it till they felt ready. SKZ had an hour to practice before recording and filming. The way they wear at the time... Well, the song really does say it all. Han and Changbin wrote it, that's why their parts whem still in their style that is, are so impossible to match. Anyways! Now there's two songs in two different genres. They didn't leave in the song Han's LONG female key belts. (which is understandable), they changed the emotional drive behind the raps which almost changes the whole meaning behind the song, and that's perfectly awesome actually. And even though "Hellevator" was almost 5 years ago, SKZ rappers Han and Changbin were complete beasts even then. And since it's them who wrote the song, their verses, as well as Han's high female key high notes, SKZ seemed to put everything into the emotional drive of the song. The energies they poured into it felt the same as it did when writing it. Amd they basically did it all overnight. It meant everything too, literally. They thought they would lose members they loved in just a few hours, and mind you, this was the FIRST time that Lino EVER rapped. Right on that song. There's just so much about that song the can't be replicated, which is why no one ever covered it. At the same time, you don't WANT to replicate it. Which is why everything they did was so perfect, even ifnit wasnt actually perfect. Them not doing the same thing means it's ok (great even) if the raps don't have the same driving force and no, the vocal belts don't have to go as long. Yet they did keep the high notes in the same key which blew me away, and with the genre change and instrumental rearrangement that XH did, they created a whole different song. Keeping the lyrics, melodic structure, and much more exactly the same. They did this cover correctly, with proper respect and amazing results. However they are just too different to fairly compare, so instead it's just a matter of subjective taste in genre's, and it's completely understandable that if you stan them, then that's why their version is preferable to you. These songs are truly different now, yet they aren't. They definitely don't sound the same, and you are definitely going to appreciate one over the other. That's ok though, that's what makes what they did here so awesome! At the end of the day, they did amazingly well. BangChan obviously appreciated how they went about properly and respectfully making it a song they not only could perform, but could do so without having any of their adjustments altered. So I would hope that SKZ fans dint think thsy have right to say how well they did or didn't do either... No more than the other. It's all perspective. Thay said, as far as what they did keep the same. Surprisingly a lot! them goes, lyrics and melodic structure. Everything else... The driving energy, flow, cadence and vocal styles changed. But... They didn't have to copy or want to actually "cover copy" their song. Because you can tell if they had, then it definitely wouldn't be nearly as good. Anyways... my point is just that it certainly wasn't better than the original. They're two parts of the same whole, just ones that were done 5 years apart and so different from eachother that, yeah. You likely have a preference as to which one fits you... that's all. Same as XH themselves. 🖤
