  • Is your bathroom humid? One device can solve your problem. Leviton's humidity sensor. It pulls the humidity from your bathroom and makes it comfortable. You pair the humidity sensor with a bathroom fan. It's installed much like a normal electrical switch.

    Me too.
    Today you'll see how a professional electrician installs the humidity sensor.
    Bill White from Live Wire Service Group shares a ton of important tips.
    He's a great teacher and you'll learn a lot in our tutorial.
    One thing to know: Leviton's humidity sensor needs a neutral wire.
    If your existing electrical box doesn't have a neutral then you can't use the humidity sensor.

    Good video. I installed one a month ago, to lower humidity in shower, bath and bedroom. Works like a charm. Your video helped a lot, particularly on settings.

    That was a great description of how houses were commonly wired with switch loops. NEC 404.2C now requires a neutral in switch boxes, "still meets code" would not be true for anything installed recently.

    I have to really congratulate you, this is a very informative video and down to the point, unlike other that all they do is talk LOL.. I have a question in regards of a personal project that I'm making. I have a tool that I can't or don't have storage for it but I like to keep this tool, so I have to leave it outside. My original plan was to make a box and cover it with Foam-board and Upholstery the outside with Vinyl and put a heater inside with a thermostat. But I was wondering because of my main concern is the humidity, if this would work as the same way as the thermostat plug in I have plan in making. I know, is just something that I shouldn't be doing and I wish I had a storage for it so I wouldn't be doing this, but I have to.... Just want it to get your opinion and advice if it would work. Thank you for you time, God bless you and your love ones :)

    Hi,
    Super helpful video.
    The bathroom setup I heave has (Vent Fan, Light) switches, but I noticed the way it’s wired from the switches it appears someone wired it with the “red” as the Light rather than the “fan”.
    When I wire everything to the new humidity sensor do I swap the “red” our to the fan, because currently their are two black wired going to the existing switch for the “Vent Fan”?
    Thank you for any assistance you can provide!

    I installed mine closer to the ceiling, condensation closer to ceiling.i think the new fans with cond sensor would work better as they would detect humidity sooner. I like the air cycle feature of this unit.

    great video, good explanation, easy to follow, better than the original Leviton video here on youtube!!!
    Only one question: Why use always a flat screw driver ? Better "holding" capability ?

    • @danasion2577
      @danasion2577 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Because as you mentioned you are less likely to strip anything using a flathead screwdriver. Flathead is what was also the standard for years in the electrical industry.

      Thankfully at one point he said "or square tip". In Canada we use square tip (Robertson) screw drivers for electrical connections and carpentry. It holds screws better than Philips or flat head.

    You had two load wires in the video (one for the fan and one for the light in the fan). What is the next step with the wire for the light? Does that go to a separate switch? I have a fan with a light in my bathroom as well as a separate vanity light and am wondering if I can wire the light from the fan to the switch with the vanity light.

    I have a double switch set up currently. One switch on top of the other. The top one is for the light. The bottom one is for the fan. Can I pigtail the light and fan wires together and use this humidity sensor to turn the light and fan on at the same time?

    I have this switch to install and replace a manual switch. I have two black wires going to the old switch, and don't know which is hot and which is load. I also have to add a neutral wire - the neutrals aren't wired to the switches. Are there any other issues I should be looking for?

    Here, learn something else about thing: it needs to be installed real close to the shower stall, otherwise it wont pick up the changes in humidity.
    As a switched timer though, it works great but for the humidity... it's quite unreliable.
    Next, the settings are not 4,3,2,1 minutes, rather, somewhat more like 10,20,30,40 minutes...
    My experienced advice: install it for the timer, wired with the shower lights... then set the timer to 30-40 minutes (I have mine at 40 mins) and just hit it when you go take a shower, and let it run for 40 minutes. Theres plenty of time to shower, dry off and the fan will stay on until the timer expires.

      Actually, the instructions say that the 1 is equal to 10 minutes, the 2 is equal to 20 minutes, the 3 is equal to 30 minutes and the 4 is equal to 45 minutes, not 40 minutes.

    I have a working dehumidifier in my basement. My wife noticed that our electrical bill has jacked up 3 folds when I plugged this dehumidifier in 4 months ago. So that nowadays I only plug-in my dehumidifier 48 hours a week to save on energy. If I ask an electrician to install this sensor and get it to work do I still a need a dehumidifier unit for my basement?

    I was trying to install one of these in my bathroom, replacing a manual switch. Unfortunately it wouldn't work as there were only three wires connected to the existing switch, and this wants 4 wires. Have to set this aside until I get an electrician in.

    Thank you so much for this video. I have a laundry room right next to the master bedroom. Whenever the heater runs in the bedroom, the leviton senser switch in the laundry room turns on the fan. Both leviton and heater control share the wall, simply opposite side of the same wall. How can i solve this problem?

    I need some help. I want to install a Leviton motion light control model number ipS02 and on it is a red, black and green screw. Okay, the black, white and ground wire runs from my switch box into my light fixture junction box. In the light fixture box, the black wire is connected to a bunch of other black wires and the ground is connected to a bunch of other ground wires and the white wire is connected to the BLACK wire on the light fixture. There are OTHER white wires in the light fixture box that come from other outlets and from that bunch of white wires there is a pigtail and that goes to the white wire on the light. The light works perfect. With all that said, what color screw, (there is a red and a black screw on the motion light control) does the BLACK or WHITE wire get connected to? Also, does the ground wire HAVE to be connected to the motion light control for it to work? Thank you for any help. Happy New Year.

      Mark Komar the white wire connected to black wire should have a mark on it to show its actually a line wire. you connect each wire from the fan to corresponding connections on the sensor

    Concern: if I have a switch near the door and there is a glass door between the shower area and the switch, will the humidistat shut down according to the air near the door as compared to the air in the shower area? I'm thinking a sensor near the fan would be a much more accurate gauge of humidity within the shower area where a moisture concern is likely to be at its greatest. Also thinking that the constant manual on/off will cause the switch to fail at a faster pace than a sensor placed near the moisture which runs without manual input. Thoughts?

    • @ChuckD59
      @ChuckD59 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Same situation here. Light and fan switches are at the door, shower is toward the back of the bathroom so the humidistat will be reading moisture near the fresh air. No point to that. But having a timer is a partial solution to being able to leave the bathroom after a shower and not having to remember to turn it off later. Just gotta remember to turn it on.
      Great, easy to follow video, too!

    • @joshferguson4660
      @joshferguson4660 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      ChuckD59 I have a similar setup in our home and this humidity sensor works well. Our bathroom has 12 foot ceilings and the humidity sensor still turns on and off each time we shower. Make sure the bathroom door is closed or the sensor might not turn on the fan due to lower humidity at door. Having the door open can cause the switch to short cycle as well, turning the fan off too soon and not removing enough moisture from the bathroom. So it cuts on and off often.
