It’s a terrible shame such an icon has been lost to top line test cricket. There is now a soulless “stadium” with a drop in pitch across the river that interests no one. Shame you didn’t make it during a Marsh cup or shield game. Entry is something like $10 and the cricket is to a very high standard. The scoreboard still is used, the Lillee March stand at the river end is unchanged and four (?) of the six light towers remain. Some genius thought that instead of a new stand what the place needed was a water park/swimming pool. So many people fought so hard to retain the ground in its full glory but the renown and the history have been squandered, as has millions of dollars.
