I love Tim Burton! His films changed my childhood! I love Peewee's Big Adventure, Beetlejuice, MARS ATTACKS!, Corpse Bride, Alice ain Wonderland, Frankenweenie, Miss Peregrine's Home For Peculiar Children, BATMAN, BATMAN RETURNS, Ed Wood, The Nightmare Before Christmas, Edward Scissorhands, Sleepy Hollow, Charlie and The Chocolate Factory, Big Fish, and Yes Planet Of The Apes,

I wonder if Burton has any plans or inclinations to make another grounded, non-fantasy biographical film similar to Ed Wood. Ed Wood is outstanding!

Looking at the public response to Batman Returns at the time of it's release, I think it was WAY overblown. I love the movie, I think it's badass! I think people today can really appreciate the dark tone, the action and the effects. It's quite absurd to think that back then, every comic book movie had to be "McDonald's friendly", whereas nowadays we're getting plenty of R-rated comic book films. We're even getting PG-13 films today that push FAR MORE boundaries than Batman Returns did, and no one in the media or public is flipping out over it.

I feel conflicted, on the one hand I would give pretty much anything to see Tim Burton Batman III. But after leaving the project, Tim Burton immediately made Ed Wood, which is one of my favorite films of all time. So I wouldn’t want to pick between one over the other, I wish I could live in a world where both happened... maybe this Tim Burton’s Batman Beyond movie, if it happens, could fill that void, I can certainly hope so.

It’s such a shame that Tim Burton shelved his Vincent Price documentary because he couldn’t get rights to the footage of his films. if this were made nowadays, he totally could’ve made it a collaborative effort with different filmmakers reanimating segments from Vincent’s different roles. It could have been a really heartfelt tribute a la be kind rewind, shrek retold, or the documentary “raiders!”.

Speaking of Mai the Psychic Girl, now Sparks finally got a musical film made with Annette starring Adam Driver and directed by Leo Carax (Holy Motors), AND Edgar Wright directed a documentary about the band called The Sparks Brothers. Both coming out this year. Annette is even going to be the opening film of this year's Cannes.
Demos of the songs they wrote exist on TH-cam. I predict with their recent boom with The Sparks Brothers and Annette, that Mai The Psychic Girl would get some revitalised traction. Edgar Wright is a lifelong Sparks fan, and I think he would be more than happy to work with Sparks again and direct Mai himself.

Plus, as far as I know about Mai: The Psychic Girl, I read the manga and boy oh boy was it shocking. But the script that Tim was going to direct was from the writers of Beetlejuice and Edward Scissorhands respectively (Larry Wilson & Caroline Thompson), it was okay for the pages I read and comparing to the manga, but the whole idea of adapting the manga itself would be amazing, but infusing the musical element is unnecessary.

    1. X-men (there's a ton of unused scripts of X-men movie, even before the 2000s X-men itself) and also there's a unproduced Magneto Origins script
    2. Aronofsky's The Wolverine (it's totally different and more comic accurate than the realeased movie)
    3. The Flash (from Goyer's script to Gugenheim script that turned into CW series)

Out of all of them, the one I wish had happened more than any other is 'Believe it or Not'! I'm picturing something like 'Baron Munchhausen' meets (OG) 'Dr. Doolittle'! And how about unrealized animated projects? Surely the 3 he made weren't the only ideas...

Wow. Burton's had a s**tload of projects that were announced but never materialized...I would've sold my soul to have seen "Catwoman," "Batman III," "Superman Lives," "Ripley's Believe It Or Not," "Conversations With Vincent," "Beetlejuice 2," and "Dinosaurs Attack!" plastered on the silver screen.

Interesting that you mentioned Dinosaurs Attack! But did you know that prior to Spielberg and Universal acquiring the film rights to Jurassic Park, Warner Bros attempted to bid for the film rights with Tim Burton as their choice of director.

I think with Pinocchio & Catwoman Burton should do like what Steven Spielberg & Don Bluth, he should start his own company, that way he could buy the rights two both stories & be allowed to do whatever he wants with them without having to deal with other studios breathing down his neck. He could work on them on his own time & have a team of his chosen to help make them, these two movies would be brillant if he were given another changes at these. Maybe with fans help we could talk him into doing his own vision of these stories. I hope he will get to do Beetlejuice 2, I just know it'll be brillant.

Shame Burton’s vision never reached fruition.
