My favorite coat is the Waffle Patterns Papernoot coat. I think this pattern would definitely look better than the inspiration picture. I agree that with a little shaping it would be more figure flattering.
Ooh yes please do a sew along for the Lisette coat B6385! I have that pattern too but hadn’t realised it came with cup sizing. I’ve just gone and dug it out and you are right it does! It’s not flagged on the front or in the sizing chart but mentions it in some of the text on the back. I had been wanting to make another coat but was undecided on which one. This has made my decision very easy. Woohoo!
Hi from England. love this, as always. I have just made my first coat and it isn't too bad. I used Burda 6361 and hacked it into a wrap. You have inspired me to make a camel coat with a fur trimmed hood. Your granddad was right! Thanks for doing these videos.
I really like the Waffle Patterns. I am thinking of making the Tosti, a utility jacket, good for my walks in the woods. A friend of mine has the Pepernoot, I had a look at the pattern. It has real good instructions with lot’s of drawings to explain the steps in the pattern. I would like to make that one to, for an every day coat.
Great video! I really like the last one. Ok, I actually like most of them. I really love the story of your grandfather! 💜 I also love books of pretty much any sort. ☺
I loved this video. And I loved your grandfather's logic :) I also love Waffle patterns, I have for a long time. Her coat patterns are gorgeous. I have the perfect fabrics to make the Tosti coat and the Dropje jacket. I'm just waiting until I get the confidence to cut into the fabrics.
Yes! I'd love a sewalong with the Lisette coat pattern! I have the pattern and fabric already and just need a little hand-holding! Thanks for the review.
LOVE that Vogue trench coat. It's been on my list for a few months now. Do I need another trench coat - no. But I really want to sew this one. I was thinking of an unlined version in a soft shell fabric . If you bound the seams with a fun Hong Kong binding that could work, maybe? Alternatively I'd make it in cotton twill and then line the body in a soft brushed checked cotton, like lumberjack shirt fabric. So many coats , so many possibilities.... Oh I forgot to say if you sew with sherpa make sure your vacuum cleaner is in good working order first - what a mess!
I would love it if you used the Butterick 6385 for the sew-along! I just bought that pattern and can't wait to make it. So classic. This will be my first time making a coat so would love to watch you do it first!
I really want some faux sherpa- these are gorgeous. love the cropped fur one also but would be way beyond my sewing skills! Thank u for your wonderful inspiration.
I recently completed my very first coat and I did it in a plaid wool. I used that Butterick Lisette pattern. It came out perfectly. I did a C cup in a 14 and only adjustment was shorten sleeves by half an inch. I tissue fitted it before cutting. I love it and hope to make a plain coloured boiled wool next time. Would love a sew a long too Whitney.
Love the look of several coats . Unfortunately I live in the tropics and don’t wear anything much heavier the a cardigan or long sleeve tee. I would love a blue red coat .
the j. crew coat is almost a exact ringer for the simplicity 8470 coat down to the pocket placement and the fur hood. (the brown coat with the 2 pockets) view d
The lisette is one I am planning to make! I’d love a sew along in this coat - it’s on my to do list ASAP so that would be extra fun. I may need to get some bottle green Melton. Or red. Red would be amazing.
I really enjoyed this video! The waffle patterns have such great details! Matchpoint Fabrics had some orange wool but it just sold out. Matchpoint puts out collections of dead stock. I hear you about Itch to Stitch!!! I made their Hepburn turtleneck. I graded out at the bust and it was perfect. So now I want to make that vest pattern that you shared in technical fabric.
@@TomKatStitchery Such a lucky girl :) Did you see the 1960’s coat by SewOverIt? Like both the jacket and longer length versions - both would be lovely in green Melton!! Of course not a matchup for the RTW looks, but caught my eye.
Mimi G’s jacket pattern is great. I enjoy mine so much so I recommend it. But I am wildly wanting the Vogue V1650 --screaming “classic.” Great ideas! Thank you, Whitney. ~ L
Love this video. Lots of ideas. I've never made a coat but have always wanted to. I have a coat that I've not worn for years so I'm going to try to shorten it and put a faux fur collar on it. I'm 4'11" and it's a midi length so it swallows me up. Thanks for the inspiration.
hello ,i have the mimig jean jacket i did though of adding something cozy on inside ,maybe ill give it a try i need a new coat to excited to see your sew along of a big coat ❤🤯
Great coat picks!! I especially like the pattern: V1650(I own that-have yet to make), the idea of making it in faux leather-wow, that would be breath taking- I need to find some nice lightweight faux leather, I will check out Emma One Sock, their fabrics are gorgeous!! Also, I love the S8741-all the jackets on the front of that pattern are really cute!! The Waffle pattern: Peppernoot-love that-actually all the "waffle" patterns look nice-and the ability to buy an add on packet for the pockets, etc....is wonderful!! I must check them out!! I agree, a hood trimmed with faux fur is beautiful-and in general, I love faux fur!! I have some waiting on me. You looked great, but I sensed that perhaps you weren't "up to snuff" when you recorded this-I trust all is well(?) Missed seeing Miss Gidget!! Maybe next time. :+) As always, thank you for sharing and inviting us into your home-I really appreciate it-probably more so since May with the fractured ankle, then the the knee revision surgery a few months later!! Miss getting outside more-summer passed me by, I'm afraid! LOL!! Next year will be better! Thank you again, loved all the "picks" and patterns to make them!! :+)
Mood fabrics has several wools similar to what was used in the inspiration coats if anyone is having trouble finding wool locally. They also have Sherpa, fur, and faux leather. I especially like that their fabrics are higher quality- a good jacket is an investment! All that work- I want mine to last a long time. (No affiliation).
Love all these costs Whitney 😂 and I have the Lisette one and some beautiful wool. I did buy faux fur last year to make one made for my granddaughter who has grown out of her old one so you’ve now got me think about it! The fur fluff has to be the worst but but now I have masks to hand that I could wear 😆😉 it may be made before Christmas x
I have always loved books and having books around me.. so of course, I also have a "problem" with sewing books now, but I love having them on hand and reading through them. Tilly's "Make it Simple" has saved me money already as they are very simple designs that are easy to "hack" for a few things I wear often. BOOKS!! I just missed a killer sale on faux fur and sherpas :( I must comfort myself that I have a lot on my plate and likely would be tripping over the yardage for too long and the project won't be as fun if I think I "HAVE" to do it. Also, I am not sure if I will get to your newest jeans video today, but I just came across the video from Palmer and Pletch (is that right) explaining some fit issues and how to fix them with their pattern, it is on You Tube.
The Little Pomegranate @thelittlepomegrate (THE Rumana) is making her namesake coat and detailing lots of fine details of the making in her Instagram stories and all saved in her highlights. Well worth a follow - even though you probably know most of it. I love making and wearing coats too
Some great options... thank you
My pleasure!
My favorite coat is the Waffle Patterns Papernoot coat. I think this pattern would definitely look better than the inspiration picture. I agree that with a little shaping it would be more figure flattering.
I have seen this one made up by a few people and it is very flattering. I really love that fur trimmed hood!

I, too, love a good cup sized pattern!
Seattle Fabrics has outdoor fabrics and 3m thinsulate. Might be a good place to check out for some of these patterns. I loved this video! 🧥💙
Thank you! I’ll have a look at that!
Waffle patterns have a cute freebee download for 'handmade by me' cardstock labels. Very sweet.
Ooh! I’ll have to take a look at that!

That’s so good to hear! I’m crossing my fingers they do a Black Friday sale of some sorts. I’d like to grab a few of their patterns!
My favorites by hand London Rumana coat and something delightful B6385.
Those are two classic ones, for sure!
I love the Rumana coat. I really want to make one for the 2 days of winter I have.
😂 Elizalex did do a linen version when that pattern came out that was beautiful!
Love all the coats you’ve shown. I especially love the Peppernoot and By Hand London long coat. Again, thanks for the inspiration!!
My pleasure!
I loved the Envigado vest. I want to make it in a copper twill. I live in South Texas so a vest in the winter is all we need a lot of the time.
That would be perfect!
I have some lovely soft faux fur to make a cropped jacket without realising that was on trend 😉💕
Perfect!
Great video! I really like the last one. Ok, I actually like most of them. I really love the story of your grandfather! 💜 I also love books of pretty much any sort. ☺

Love the bamboo coat with the add on - its lovely
Isn’t that gorgeous?!!
Thanks so much for this! I have dreams of a Rumana coat. Please, please, please do a coat sew along! I would adore that!
Sure! I’ll do a coat sew along when the jeans one is finished!

I’m leaning heavily that way!

Ooh! We are a similar size! I’m leaning heavily toward doing that pattern!
I love it! I have some gorgeous magenta Melton wool and some blue Melton that I’ve been trying to find patterns for so I loove the waffle bamboo one!
Melton would be a beautiful choice for quite a few of those Waffle patterns!
Love the look of several coats . Unfortunately I live in the tropics and don’t wear anything much heavier the a cardigan or long sleeve tee. I would love a blue red coat .
❤️
Inside The Hem did a YT review video on the Waffle patterns. They have so many nice coats!
Their coats are so good. I’m anxious to sew one up!

Ooh, I do hope you do a sal for that lisette coat!
I’m really thinking that will be the next one!
Fun video, Whitney! My favorite is the Lisette, and now wish I had the green Melton (have navy)!
Isn’ that green pretty? I inherited a similar color of Melton from my sewing mentor so that might be what I use for the next sew along!

I have some wool cashmere (it was on sale!🤩) to make B6385. I’m just so intimidated, I’m afraid to start!

I like the patterns from the Waffle Pattern Company.
They look beautiful!

Ok!

I am wondering about the Oslo coat but wonder if the overlap is enough for warmth.
It does have a deep v at the neck, but I think it could totally work for warmth. A nice scarf would fill that void nicely!
