    My guitar teacher Amanda calls the pinky one of the stupid fingers. So far my two stupid fingers have done well. Always one wants to move with the other. Just don't listen at times. Thanks for this some ignore this an it's very important. Your a great teacher Ms. Lauren. Have a great weekend Alabama is a great fan.

    Another great tutorial! You mentioned the infamous "lazy/dragging thumb." That's my term for it. Now, I can focus on my thumb, too. Thank you!

    I still use spider to stretch sometimes, but it was chord changes that gave me confidence with my 4th finger. Open C Major chord then reaching my pinky to B string third fret for a cadd9, I think? Was first. Then switching from barre C on frets 3 and 5 to barre G that's right there. What felt crazy was when I could strum a clean barre C using my third finger for D G and B strings and still hit the high E string. When first trying to get my third finger to bend like that, I got the shakes from it feeling so unnatural. Once I got that to work, my pinky decided to do what I want it to. Playing that barre C Major chord 2 different ways, one with my pinky and the other without it, gave me control. It gave me that feeling of leveling up in a video game or getting a raise at work. I grew an inch taller.

    Great Lesson!!!
    One other pinky exercise my teacher 30 years ago taught:
    X-C-I-C-M-C-A-C. X= OPEN
    Then use it on different strings and different frets. Start slow.
    These are awesome in the lesson. I am not a lead person, intermediate at best. It's a big help to use the pinky is chords. That last one you taught, I really like it!

    Great lesson, I almost think this one is better than the four finger spider. I don't have that adjacent fret comfort zone with this one .i The middle finger to pinky is actually harder for me than the ring finger to Pinky, neither one is easy right now LOL

    I AM 6’ 4”. So trying to adjust my electric guitar to play chords has been a pain in the behind. I will see if someone else can see my mistakes on holding the electric guitar; otherwise, I am going to put it down. The strap hurts my neck so I might look at getting a thicker wider guitar strap.

    • @LaurenBateman

    Flying pinky is SIGNIFIGANTLY harder to get rid of on bass, because you have to press down harder. I found that I couldn't proceed in getting rid of flying fingers without taking my right hand and FORCING the other fingers down.
    After a few days of that, I could do it without the help of my right hand. So there's a tip if your fingers are being stubborn.

  • @mopeygoff
    @mopeygoff ปีที่แล้ว

    I guess my problem is more my pinky is "floppy". I find it flying off the fretboard which means it has to go further back when I want to play a note with it, and then it comes back with such a force that it is almost like a hammer on when I reconnect it with the string. That being said the last few days I've been trying to focus on NOT letting this happen, but will also try your exercises!

    SPEAKING ON GUITARS: Why is bass guitar so much easier to learn than electric or acoustic guitar?
    NEXT: Why are there so few bass guitar lessons versus electric or acoustic guitar lessons? Is it the aurora that the electric guitar or acoustic guitar holds over the minds of people? Is it just the American lore that an electric or acoustic guitar holds over the American people and the World?
    JUST ASKING?
    SOMEONE NEEDS TO DO A VIDEO ON THAT SUBJECT.👈🏿👀👍🏾

    • @LaurenBateman
      @LaurenBateman  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Great question. The bass is a little bit of a different instrument in terms of technique. There are people who ‘play’ bass and then there are bass players.
