My guitar teacher Amanda calls the pinky one of the stupid fingers. So far my two stupid fingers have done well. Always one wants to move with the other. Just don't listen at times. Thanks for this some ignore this an it's very important. Your a great teacher Ms. Lauren. Have a great weekend Alabama is a great fan.
I still use spider to stretch sometimes, but it was chord changes that gave me confidence with my 4th finger. Open C Major chord then reaching my pinky to B string third fret for a cadd9, I think? Was first. Then switching from barre C on frets 3 and 5 to barre G that's right there. What felt crazy was when I could strum a clean barre C using my third finger for D G and B strings and still hit the high E string. When first trying to get my third finger to bend like that, I got the shakes from it feeling so unnatural. Once I got that to work, my pinky decided to do what I want it to. Playing that barre C Major chord 2 different ways, one with my pinky and the other without it, gave me control. It gave me that feeling of leveling up in a video game or getting a raise at work. I grew an inch taller.
Merci Lauren pour ce tuto, je.peux te dire quand je fais l exercice le pouce le fait mal je vais suivre tes conseils pour le faire glisser et pas le pencher bon week-end Lolo
Hey Lauren, Thanks! My pinky also bends a little towards ring finger. I thought I will never be able to learn guitar but watching your videos I am inspired to learn again.
Great Lesson!!! One other pinky exercise my teacher 30 years ago taught: X-C-I-C-M-C-A-C. X= OPEN Then use it on different strings and different frets. Start slow. These are awesome in the lesson. I am not a lead person, intermediate at best. It's a big help to use the pinky is chords. That last one you taught, I really like it!
Perfect timing on this lesson, Lauren. I have really been working on my pinky just this week during my warm-ups. Thank you for the new exercises to add to my arsenal.
Great tute as always. My issue is a shortish pinky that just doesn't seem to stretch far enough to the 6th string; wish I had your long fingers, I'm sure it would help
Are you keeping the fingers fretted the entire time while working on this exercise? Meaning is finger 2 kept down ((fretted) while fretting the pinky? Thank you!!
Great lesson, I almost think this one is better than the four finger spider. I don't have that adjacent fret comfort zone with this one .i The middle finger to pinky is actually harder for me than the ring finger to Pinky, neither one is easy right now LOL
Hello from South Korea., Lauren! First of all thank you for your video. I strated self-study from september but my pinky finger bends inward -> | | / / this is how my fingers looks like...and my pinky finger lie down and other strings mutes. Can it be fixed? What should I do in this case?
Just take your time and make progress according to the pace your comfortable with. Regardless whether you go fast or stay slow, you will eventually get it :D
I AM 6’ 4”. So trying to adjust my electric guitar to play chords has been a pain in the behind. I will see if someone else can see my mistakes on holding the electric guitar; otherwise, I am going to put it down. The strap hurts my neck so I might look at getting a thicker wider guitar strap.
@@LaurenBateman went on o GUITAR CENTER. Ole dude said my guitar positioning was ok. I like the classic versus the folk because I can reach the fretboard without wrist pain. And my eyesight is not what it used to be to be so I have to work at seeing my strings till I get my techniques down.
@@LaurenBateman No problem. I just bout a GSMINI Taylor for my first guitar. A lot of times I get really frustrated this first couple of weeks since I started playing but I'm extremely grateful for your channel because thanks to you now I'm actually having fun with it. LOL! I'm addicted to my Taylor and sometimes play it for many hours a day such as last night I didn't go to bed until 3AM lol It's like crack but with six strings lol.
Flying pinky is SIGNIFIGANTLY harder to get rid of on bass, because you have to press down harder. I found that I couldn't proceed in getting rid of flying fingers without taking my right hand and FORCING the other fingers down. After a few days of that, I could do it without the help of my right hand. So there's a tip if your fingers are being stubborn.
I guess my problem is more my pinky is "floppy". I find it flying off the fretboard which means it has to go further back when I want to play a note with it, and then it comes back with such a force that it is almost like a hammer on when I reconnect it with the string. That being said the last few days I've been trying to focus on NOT letting this happen, but will also try your exercises!

Another great tutorial! You mentioned the infamous "lazy/dragging thumb." That's my term for it. Now, I can focus on my thumb, too. Thank you!

Hi, I have this issue but I also suffer from inflammatory arthritis, which affects my tendons. What would you recommend for this situation.
Oh no. 😔 Lots of massage and stretching. I have very bad tendonitis. It can be really painful.

Can you do "Smoke stack Lightnig" by Howlin" Wolf? I just love the intro which is pretty much played for the entire song pretty much.
