    DO NOT LEAVE YOUR LIPOS FULLY CHARGED. If you have a LiPo charge, there is a storage charge function on most chargers. You want to make sure your lipo battery sits at around 3.8v per cell if you arent using it often.

      I come from quad fpv flying where we use lipos as well and everyone there is very strict on how to manipulate lipos. It is fascinating for me how clueless people in airsoft are when it comes to lipos. Im not even talking here about little Timmy who just bought his first AEG. Its these youtube guys that are making a living off airsoft.
      Kids, DO NOT store your batteries fully charged. They will go bad way faster than they should. Also if your battery is a little puffy, get rid of it. Buy a new one. Lipos can burst into flames pretty easy if mistreated.

    If you clean a barrel with silicone, you'll get it on the bucking and that'll make it extremely slippery.. making hopup less effective for many hundreds of shots, it can also give double feed problems as well.. wiping it clean won't get rid of it.. try a spray of silicone on a bit of plastic, now try to rub it off ! .. it'll still be slippery.. silicone is a harmless to rubber lubricant.. so why would you get it anywhere near a hopup which works on friction?

  • @tomsutton6451
    @tomsutton6451 3 ปีที่แล้ว +66

    Just one thing about lipos, I do a lot of stuff with quadcopters, so use lipos a lot, and if storing for long periods it's not recommended you store them full. Storage charge is considered to be about 58% charge level, and most dedicated lipo chargers will have a "storage" mode. Just noticed some others made the same comment before.

    Li-Pos should be stored at 50% not fully charged. Alot of decent chargers have a "storage charge" function. That brings it to the proper storage voltage.
    Li-Pos degrade over time, they degrade the most at fully charged and fully deleted. And the least at aprox 50%

    Yikes. Ok, so this is pretty good, but there's some issues here.
    1) LiPOs want to sit at roughly 50% charge if they're being stored. Full can cause issues as can empty.
    2) For the love of GOD do not use silicone oil to clean your barrel. You don't need that to clean it out and even if you're ultra careful, you can get silicone oil bleeding into the bucking and it'll swell. This will lead to jamming and the bucking possibly ripping. Just use clean cotton and, if absolutely necessary, a little bit of Isopropyl. But be careful and only use it if the dry cloth doesn't work.

    • @berserk972
      @berserk972 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Alcohol will eventually eat through the bucking. It's the same amount of risk if you use oil. Just be careful when cleaning the barrel

    • @airsoftgi
      @airsoftgi  4 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      For most people, they will not have an expensive charger that can read exact % levels. Keeping the batteries fully charged will maximize the life of the battery. Storing it at that % will be great if you plan on storing for an extended period of time. However, we are assuming the average player will go out once a month 😉
      Also we recommend using silicone oil because it will help lift the dirt off of the inner barrel. @bersek972 is correct. Alcohol is actually more damaging to the bucking than silicone oil. If you follow our steps, it will remove all of the excess oil and allow the bucking just enough oil to stay hydrated. Cleaning the inner barrel dry can work, but you do have a higher risk of scratching the inner barrel with the debris that is trapped inside. Also if the debris is caked on, cleaning it dry wont help.

    • @Jumbojet776
      @Jumbojet776 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@airsoftgi That's fair on the battery, but I expect people aren't fully draining their batteries so they'll probably be closer to 50% than 0.
      As for the barrels, if they're actually full on dirty, yeah, you're gonna want to use a solvent of some sort. But at the same time, those solvents aren't just going to make the dirt disappear, so it'd scratch regardless. At that point, you should pull the barrel and run a solvent through it to flush the dirt with no friction or abrasion. For dust and whatever else gets on a barrel normally, a clean cloth should be more than enough.
      And on the topic of alcohol vs silicone, no. Silicone oil and isopropyl will both soak into a bucking, but the difference is that silicone doesn't come out nearly as easily and will actually begin to break down the silicone polymer versus isopropyl which will not cause the polymer structure to break down and will evaporate out much quicker.
      But ideally, you would not have to use either. Just some clean cloth and a little patience.

    • @MikotoVT
      @MikotoVT 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@airsoftgi Even for only a month, or even a few days, a lipo shouldn't be stored fully charged. Anyone using lipo batteries should have a balance charger and a lipo checker to read the voltages.

    • @marcofreire
      @marcofreire 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Alcohol is not good for your bucking. I know that for personal experience. It will dry the rubber and won't seal having a major leakage and awful performance.
      If you clean with alcohol, lube the bucking immediately after.

    You don't leave lipo batteries fully charged for more than a week, you need to put them in a storage mode, a storage mode means about 3.75V/cell, most Lipo chargers have a storage mode that will sort this out.
    Lipo batteries left fully charged for some time lose their life and they will not last long.

    would this process be the same for something super nice like an umbrella armory upgraded gun? I have heard that since it's higher-end you would need to clean it more often/in different ways?

      Same basic maintenance applies to those upgraded ones as well. Only differnce between those and and basic stock ones is the parts

    About how often should you clean your guns and could you get away with cleaning them less often if you only use them at indoor fields?
