When the travellers emigrated to the UK though, they tended to intermingle with the gypsies. They are often excellent boxers too. It's a big part of their culture. Many world champions have been Irish travellers or English gypsies. Tyson Fury and Billy Jo Saunders are two of the current crop. The Irish travellers don't mind being called 'travellers,' but there are a whole list of derogatory names to which they object. One of those is 'pikey' I think. It's a name used in England and carries negative connotations. But Pitt had the accent and dialect down perfectly.

A semi remake of the directors first movie, just with more famous actors, a bigger budget and a slightly more nonsensical and overblown story.
This is one you can watch a couple times a year. Then if you don't see it for a few years, it's good to see again. It's one of the few like that. Lots to remember, and it still surprises again...

One time when Guy was filling up his motor at a petrol station he bumped into a guy at the station and got chatting. Guy loved how the fella looked so took the guys number as he thought the guy would be great for a future character. When Snatch came along he called the guy to play Tyrone.
Brad's (and everyone really) performance was amazing. Guy Ritchie has a great style for his movies. I love that these multiple plots were tied together by a glass of milk!!
Yeah, Guy Ritchie is great but I can't help feel the real magic with Snatch & Lock, Stock is the Guy Ritchie/Matthew Vaughan combo. Many of Guy's movies after Snatch, whilst still decent, lacked the edge of his first few with Vaughan producing.
This movie is a pure masterpiece, from beginning to end. And Brad Pitt deserved an Oscar...there was no "Brad Pitt" in sight, he was completely lost into another human being. So many incredible actors, great writing and directing

I literally cried out laughing with the barking/whistling dog in this movie. I was alone at home watching it and some friends came and found me laughing non-stop and I wasn't even able to explain to them why I was laughing because I couldn't stop.
A couple other fine movies with Brad Pitt playing against type: - 12 Monkeys (1995) (*and hey, this one even includes a love story) - Burn After Reading (2008)
Brad Pitt is brilliant in Burn After Reading (excellent cast all round!). A few minutes after his first scene, my friend said "I thought Brad Pitt was supposed to be in this"...literally hadn't realised it was him!
I LOVE this movie; it's in my top five favorites of all time, and definitely my number one "dark comedy" of all time! Also, there really are no "good guys" in this film; everyone is shady, to one degree or another. That being said, Turkish, Tommy, and Mickey are set up as our protagonists, since they are shown to be the "lesser evils", and Brick Top and his crew are portrayed as our main "bad guys", since they are the most despicable characters, even though all of the other players also fall somewhere on the antagonist scale. Again, excellent film, and I thoroughly enjoyed not only your reaction to it, but also seeing someone discovering this movie for the first time. 😄👍

I work with a lot of Brits and, apparently, Vinnie Jones (Bullet Tooth Tony), is a super nice guy in real life. He was a professional soccer player with a reputation as a bit of a bruiser, but is, according to my British co-workers, somewhat known for being very down to earth and accessible to his fans.
tyrone reversing and hitting the van is my favorite in the movie. "Tyrone why did you do that for?" "that is a 4 ton truck not a back of peanuts" " it was in funny angle" (guys turn and look trough back window) " Tyrone every time you reverse things come behind you" 😂 gets me every time. I remember seeing this in theaters, when I knew very little about it going in. I was stunned when Benicio got offed as quickly as he did, with so little screentime, when he was really at the height of his popularity at that point. Thoroughly enjoyed the movie, though, and rushed out to rent Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrells right afterwards.
When we first meet Mickey, I had always assumed he was working on that car. I saw this movie over a dozen times before I realized that as he's standing up he's pulling up his pants.
As a Brit, who knew a few real Pikeys in my youth, whom I had no problem understanding, I thoroughly enjoyed how very nearly incomprehensible 'Mickey' was. I'm no fan of violence as entertainment in general, but as part and parcel of these characters, which are so cleverly drawn and detailed despite initially appearing crude, it makes sense. And the constant interjection of humor and quite formal sentence construction mixed with the slang and swearing is just a delight. ( I'm actually reminded of Damon Runyon's writing: "Guys and Dolls' is the musical based on his work, though there's no swearing or violence in it!). Which also reminds, of course you are doing movies, but if you haven't seen the series 'Killing Eve' , I'd highly recommend it, for your own viewing pleasure.
Considering even the other characters in the movie barely understand what the Pikeys say, anyone watching not really understanding should probably not be too concerning lol

Brad Pitt always chooses interesting roles and this one was pretty far out there. Directed by Guy Ritchie who was Madonna's husband for a while and he has worked with Jason Statham as recently as the new movie now in theatres "Wrath of Man." If you've not seen "Fight club", I would highly recommend it as Brad creates quite a persona in that flick. Thanks for posting, I enjoyed your reaction.
Guy Richie, the director of this movie and many others like it, is a national treasure to us Brits. The Gentlemen is his latest movie which stars Hugh Grant who shines in a role that no one believed he could pull off.
I was walking around Target with my mom once and we saw this movie on sale on a side aisle with a big $5 sign on it. I was like, "Hey mom, look at that. Snatch is only $5!" She was just like, "I've never seen Snatch that cheap!" and I just continued, "Yeah, that's a really good price for Snatch!" Meanwhile several employees are nearby listening and laughing their asses off.
I wasn't interested in commentary when I was younger, but about 15 years ago I became obsessed. It started with Pixar shorts, but now I always watch films with commentary after seeing it for the first time. Then I'll watch it again w/o the commentary. The commentary for this film has some interesting tid bits. ❤🧡💛💚💙💜

As others have mentioned, since you liked this, you have to watch Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels. Both movies were written and directed by Guy Ritchie. Both contains many of the same actors. Jason Statham (the action guy) plays Turkish in Snatch and Bacon in LSTSB. Vinnie Jones played Bullet Tooth Tony and Big Chris. There are other people thar also acted in both movies. They have similar humor and comedic timing.
"Tyrone , how come you didn't park over there ?" Tyrone : "It's too tight" Vincent : "Too tight ? You could park a fucking jumbo jet over there !" Hilarious ! Favourite line in the movie.
You might recognize the actor who plays Tommy in this movie. He played Mike Ranney, who was a member of Easy Company, in Band Of Brothers. He was only in the 1st couple of episodes (and he was also the person that Winters quoted at the end of the series when he talked of the grandson asking the grandfather if he was a hero). Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels is a lot like this. I highly recommend it. (Sgt Martin from Band of Brothers is also in Lock Stock)
This movie is great in so many ways.. but it's got a special sentimental spot for me: I brought this movie home on dvd and my furbaby I had for almost 17 years was a puppy then....he loved the scenes with the dogs chasing the rabbit.
Vinny Jones played his role in this disturbingly authentic, given the fact he was always seen as a thug in club football & he had ties elsewhere also. Haha personally I love him, he's a great auxillary character & perhaps at some point he'll be a theatre-spec actor.
Funny thing is Brad was supposed to have a much smaller role in this. Instead he came up the accent and Guy loved him and it so much he basically rewrote the script to feature him more. Everyone else just followed.
I recommend watching the similar 1993 film "True Romance" which was written by Quentin Tarantino. It does have Brad Pitt in a minor role, it stars Christian Slater and Patricia Arquette with Gary Oldman, Christopher Walken, Dennis Hopper, Val Kilmer and Samuel L. Jackson.

The actor who plays Boris is in a movie I forgot about: The Saint. It’s an action spy movie with a fantastic love story. It stars Val Kilmer and Elisabeth Shue. It’s a shame that The Saint never received the recognition it deserved.
If you want to watch another movie like this, try "Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels". Same director and a couple of the same actors. If you liked "Snatch", I think you will like this one as well.

Having British roots and a sense of humor, I loved “Snatch”. Loved the soundtrack, loved the chaotic storyline, loved the characters in the various groups/gangs, and loved Guy Richie’s direction. Vinnie Jones (Bullet-tooth Tony) was a football (soccer) hard man when he played professional football in England. He played for a number of teams in England (1984-1999) and Captained the Welsh 🏴 national team. Glad to see you liked this quirky movie. And I hope you don’t have any friends who own pig farms!!!

When Guy Ritchie told Brad Pitt that he would be playing a boxer, Pitt became concerned because he had just finished shooting Fight Club (1999) and did not want to play the same type of role again. Pitt took the role anyway because he wanted to work with Ritchie so badly.

That being said, Turkish, Tommy, and Mickey are set up as our protagonists, since they are shown to be the "lesser evils", and Brick Top and his crew are portrayed as our main "bad guys", since they are the most despicable characters, even though all of the other players also fall somewhere on the antagonist scale.
Again, excellent film, and I thoroughly enjoyed not only your reaction to it, but also seeing someone discovering this movie for the first time. 😄👍
The genius of this film is how despite all the bad the characters have, they are all still endearing.

The guy who plays Tommy also played the sergeant in Band of Brothers who could consider himself lucky he was only busted to private, Sgt Ranney.
He's also played a lot of Mobsters over the past several years. He was Babyface Nelson in PUBLIC ENEMIES, Al Capone on BOARDWALK EMPIRE, and Tony Pro in THE IRISHMAN.
I work with a lot of Brits and, apparently, Vinnie Jones (Bullet Tooth Tony), is a super nice guy in real life. He was a professional soccer player with a reputation as a bit of a bruiser, but is, according to my British co-workers, somewhat known for being very down to earth and accessible to his fans.

tyrone reversing and hitting the van is my favorite in the movie. "Tyrone why did you do that for?" "that is a 4 ton truck not a back of peanuts" " it was in funny angle" (guys turn and look trough back window) " Tyrone every time you reverse things come behind you" 😂 gets me every time. I remember seeing this in theaters, when I knew very little about it going in. I was stunned when Benicio got offed as quickly as he did, with so little screentime, when he was really at the height of his popularity at that point. Thoroughly enjoyed the movie, though, and rushed out to rent Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrells right afterwards.
When we first meet Mickey, I had always assumed he was working on that car. I saw this movie over a dozen times before I realized that as he's standing up he's pulling up his pants.

As a Brit, who knew a few real Pikeys in my youth, whom I had no problem understanding, I thoroughly enjoyed how very nearly incomprehensible 'Mickey' was. I'm no fan of violence as entertainment in general, but as part and parcel of these characters, which are so cleverly drawn and detailed despite initially appearing crude, it makes sense. And the constant interjection of humor and quite formal sentence construction mixed with the slang and swearing is just a delight. ( I'm actually reminded of Damon Runyon's writing: "Guys and Dolls' is the musical based on his work, though there's no swearing or violence in it!).
Which also reminds, of course you are doing movies, but if you haven't seen the series 'Killing Eve' , I'd highly recommend it, for your own viewing pleasure.

You'd love "Lock Stock and 2 Smoking Barrels" as "Snatch" was created from the scenes and characters that were left over from it.
Brad Pitt always chooses interesting roles and this one was pretty far out there. Directed by Guy Ritchie who was Madonna's husband for a while and he has worked with Jason Statham as recently as the new movie now in theatres "Wrath of Man." If you've not seen "Fight club", I would highly recommend it as Brad creates quite a persona in that flick. Thanks for posting, I enjoyed your reaction.
Guy Richie, the director of this movie and many others like it, is a national treasure to us Brits. The Gentlemen is his latest movie which stars Hugh Grant who shines in a role that no one believed he could pull off.
Now we're in England, Edgar Wright's Hot Fuzz I think is right up there.

I was walking around Target with my mom once and we saw this movie on sale on a side aisle with a big $5 sign on it. I was like, "Hey mom, look at that. Snatch is only $5!" She was just like, "I've never seen Snatch that cheap!" and I just continued, "Yeah, that's a really good price for Snatch!" Meanwhile several employees are nearby listening and laughing their asses off.
I wasn't interested in commentary when I was younger, but about 15 years ago I became obsessed. It started with Pixar shorts, but now I always watch films with commentary after seeing it for the first time. Then I'll watch it again w/o the commentary. The commentary for this film has some interesting tid bits. ❤🧡💛💚💙💜

As others have mentioned, since you liked this, you have to watch Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels. Both movies were written and directed by Guy Ritchie. Both contains many of the same actors. Jason Statham (the action guy) plays Turkish in Snatch and Bacon in LSTSB. Vinnie Jones played Bullet Tooth Tony and Big Chris. There are other people thar also acted in both movies. They have similar humor and comedic timing.
Guy Ritchie is amazing, I highly recommend any of his movies

You might recognize the actor who plays Tommy in this movie. He played Mike Ranney, who was a member of Easy Company, in Band Of Brothers. He was only in the 1st couple of episodes (and he was also the person that Winters quoted at the end of the series when he talked of the grandson asking the grandfather if he was a hero). Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels is a lot like this. I highly recommend it. (Sgt Martin from Band of Brothers is also in Lock Stock)

This movie is great in so many ways.. but it's got a special sentimental spot for me: I brought this movie home on dvd and my furbaby I had for almost 17 years was a puppy then....he loved the scenes with the dogs chasing the rabbit.
If you want a new shorter series to watch like Band of Brothers i'd suggest S1 of True Detective
Vinny Jones played his role in this disturbingly authentic, given the fact he was always seen as a thug in club football & he had ties elsewhere also. Haha personally I love him, he's a great auxillary character & perhaps at some point he'll be a theatre-spec actor.

Funny thing is Brad was supposed to have a much smaller role in this. Instead he came up the accent and Guy loved him and it so much he basically rewrote the script to feature him more. Everyone else just followed.

I recommend watching the similar 1993 film "True Romance" which was written by Quentin Tarantino. It does have Brad Pitt in a minor role, it stars Christian Slater and Patricia Arquette with Gary Oldman, Christopher Walken, Dennis Hopper, Val Kilmer and Samuel L. Jackson.
Look into Guy Ritchie. He wrote and directed this and a few other really good films. He is like Quintin Terentino in that his style is all his own.

The actor who plays Boris is in a movie I forgot about: The Saint. It’s an action spy movie with a fantastic love story. It stars Val Kilmer and Elisabeth Shue. It’s a shame that The Saint never received the recognition it deserved.

Having British roots and a sense of humor, I loved “Snatch”. Loved the soundtrack, loved the chaotic storyline, loved the characters in the various groups/gangs, and loved Guy Richie’s direction.
Vinnie Jones (Bullet-tooth Tony) was a football (soccer) hard man when he played professional football in England. He played for a number of teams in England (1984-1999) and Captained the Welsh 🏴 national team.

When Guy Ritchie told Brad Pitt that he would be playing a boxer, Pitt became concerned because he had just finished shooting Fight Club (1999) and did not want to play the same type of role again. Pitt took the role anyway because he wanted to work with Ritchie so badly.
You should watch "Cold Mountain" (2003) with Nicole Kidman and Jude Law.
That’s such a gruelling but satisfying movie. Brilliant film with amazing actors, by a talented director.
