Thanks so much for sharing your new yarns! They're all beautiful. I'm afraid I wouldn't pay that much in shipping, though. But I'm glad you were able to share them with us. They're lovely!
Thank you so much Gary for itemizing the shipping that is a big help. No I would not purchase from a company that I would need to pay for such high delivery costs. I dislike being nickeled and dimed. Those are beautiful yarns.
Hi Gary. My son and his son are Star Wars fans. While Josh was young we had Star Wars things all over. All movies characters. Some planes and even got records of the music on the shows. The yarns are so beautiful . Makes you want to start a new project right away.
Hi Sue - thanks for your comment and allowing me into the story of your son's being Star Wars fans. I can relate with being one who had similar posters, models and toys from the movies back in the 70s.
I did buy these yarnart summer dream yarns in different colours from vilrita too, can't wait to work with them they do look very pretty :) I live in France so for me there are no customs fees as it's in Europe, but anything coming outside of EU France is very viciously charging even for an order of 10€ hahah so I am careful where I buy from :)
Hi Carpediem - I'm going to have to be a little more careful where I purchase from. That being written - I just started using the Yarn Art Summer Dream and I like how it works up (part matt and part shinny).
GORGEOUS Yarns, especially, the Nako!😍 … Star Wars fan here ~ my favorite is ‘The Empire Strikes Back’, my favorite characters were the Ewoks!🥰 … no, to paying extra for shipping costs, since I would want to pay more for the yarn itself 😅🧶❤️
Oh my that yarnart boutique cotton yarn was absolutely gorgeous Gary. I don't think I'd want to purchase from them tho, too many extra charges especially nowadays. Take care, I hope you're having a wonderful day.
Hi Gary, the yarn you picked out is very nice. I love the colors. That's a lot of shipping and taxes I wouldn't pay that much. If the company is making you pay that extra fee I would find someplace else to buy my yarn. I love what Hank is wearing.
Beautiful yarns! I would pay the extra only if I couldn’t purchase from anywhere else. Last weekend I went to the symphony and they showed the movie empire strikes back while the symphony played the music to the film, it was amazing!!! I had never seen the movie but enjoyed it thoroughly as well as all of the patrons that attended it was sold out!
That first yarn in a baggie you held up at first glance looked like an apple. I actually thought that’s what it was. An apple with a sticker on it. I guess that’s one way of knowing just how scrumptious it is.
Beautiful yarns, Gary, but the expense of the shipping and then all the fees would definitely curb my decision. Big hugs to you, Chad, and of course, Pixel!
Great haul. Loved all the yarns & great colors!! I always calculate the shipping into the price to calculate how much the yarn actually cost me. I've bought yarn from lots of different countries but have never had to pay any additional taxes or duty into the US where I live. Like Crystal @ BOD says, she buys from ICE YARNS and yarn is really inexpensive, but shipping is really high. But all costs considered,...yarn turns out like $2/ball-skein. 👍 You have to consider all costs before thinking shipping is too expensive. Your yarns are beautiful!!! *** QUESTION: I've never used yarn cakes before. But HOW do you deal with colors when a cake has colors in different positions in the cake??? I don't always color correct. Do you separate all the colors and use them that way??? Seems frustrating to HAVE to do that. If colors are positioned the same, I may crochet thru how the colors come. But I'd hate to HAVE to do that. I like to be able to use yarn how it comes in the skein/cake. That's one great part of color changing yarns. TFS!!! Austin TX USA
Hi Barbara, Thanks for the questions on the yarn cakes and how I use them. I like purchasing the cakes that have slow transitions from one colour to the next (as opposed to stripes). When I use them I don't need to colour controll - they slowly transition (fade) into each colour. at times this may be mid-row, but not too noticable.
Hi Gary. My husband + daughter are Star Wars fans. I'm ok with it however when we went to Disney World in 2022 they made personalized light sabres one afternoon. I went to a sangria tasting event instead 😊. If I can avoid the third party shipping options I will. A few years ago I won some yarn from a US based hand dyer. It came UPS so it cost me $150. I called the company to mention this and that it could deter so Canadians from purchasing their yarns especially with high exchange rates. I mentioned USPS and subsequent Canada Post would be alot less expensive. They really were grateful for my feedback + they surprised me by sending another batch of yarn - only about $25 in fees. This might sound like alot of duties etc but it was 10 skeins of hand dyed each time!
LOL - regarding your preferred activity at Disney World. I think I would have joined you. That story about the hand dyed yarn made me almost fall off my chair.
Gary if I really liked a yarn and could not get it elseware I would purchase it. But I may give the yarn company a call if there is a more efficient way of shipping. It may be worth a try. I am a crocheted but your knitted items are so beautiful you have encouraged me to learn to knit. This is my 2nd time trying but I have more time on my hands this time. Thanks for making such beautiful pieces of fiber art ❤️😊
Hello Gary! Such beautiful yarns! I love the cotton the most as cotton is my favorite fiber. Plus the size of the cake was great! I personally wouldn’t want to pay all those extra fees. I don’t order from ICE for that very reason. We don’t have to pay duties here in the states and usually pay taxes at point of purchase with shipping. Thanks for sharing!
Hi Karen - that is fantastic to have nice custom margins in the USA for receiving international packages. I think our most daunting cost lay with the dreaded courier services.
The yarns you selected are luscious! Love the soft summer colors and the pale colors of the Nako yarns. I’m leery of alpaca yarns with the alpaca hair because it comes off on everything. Learned that from making a shawl that shed on everything!!! It’s possible to get dehaired alpaca yarn.
Hi Gary .I live in Colorado .but no I would not pay that much for yarn shipping .I know Canada does things differently. But I would have to just go with a different company .although that company has some gorgeous yarn. Have a good week
These yarns are beautiful. I really liked the cotton cakes. ❤ That ROD fee was interesting. Not sure what it is - I’m guessing it’s some kind of admin fee. I would have expected an order from Lithuania to come through DHL.

Hi Gary. Yes I watched Star Wars years ago but binged watched in order about 2 years ago. Mandalorian is my new love.💗😄 So pretty yarn. Nope I wouldn't like a courier fee on top of what the yarn cost to ship.
I watch all the yarn hauls whilst drooling over it all here in Australia. I can’t bring myself to pay more for shipping than the yarn itself costs, and also not even when it’s about equal. I would balk at extra fees from shipping companies that are incurred after purchase just because i feel it should be all up front. Customs is different to me. You’re expecting it and can gauge roughly how much you’re up for. But gorgeous yarn haul. Can’t wait to see what you make.
Hi Gary, your taxes and shipping are so much. So sorry. I realize that a lot of ours is hidden in mark up, but to realize what Canada charges. Well you did get some beautiful yarns. Enjoy working them in to something wonderful as is your talent. Kathy
Hi Gary! The yarn is just beautiful! No matter how much I may love the yarn, the shipping fees are what deters me from ordering…just can’t justify the extra cost & most likely there’ll be an extra fee for duty also😳I’ve had packages sent to me as gifts from outside of Canada & I’ve had to pay duty on them…just doesn’t seem fair that we have to pay duty on any package in my opinion! Take care…
Hi Roxanna - I feel that pinch too when I'm not expecting the additional fees too. I'll be shopping more local or Canadian for the next little while - or at least until the Canadian dollar strengthens.
Hi Gary, first the edges of your shawl are so straight...it looks great! To answer your question, no, I avoid high shipping fees whenever possible (in the US). However, I understand your choices are different in Canada and might be acceptable. Cheers!
Hello dear friend ❤, I love Star Wars, the very first series are my favorites too and from time to time, when I'm in the mood I watch it all over again. I would not order from a company, which uses a third-party courier service...But I'm going to check Vilrita's website. I wonder if the same applies in Europe... Have a beautiful day 🌼🌞
Hello Emese - I just read a comment in here from a person in France and she was telling me that there's no extra taxes or hidden fees from Vilrita to France.
Love what Hank is wearing. I'm afraid I could not afford the extra shipping fees. But right now it's about the only reason I'm happy to be in the states! Lol
Your shawl is beautiful!! I love the yarns very pretty. My favorite is the Summer one because my favorite season is Summer!!! lol If I could afford to pay the extras I would and if you definitely want the yarn! Life is short....lol The only company overseas that I order from is ICE. Their shipping is high however I divide the total cost (including shipping) with the number of skeins ordered and I think its worth it. Have a great week.
Hi Gary, Yes, it does discourage me from purchasing. I believe they should rework their delivery service or cover the cost. Having to pay customs also drives me insane. From Nova Scotia ❤❤
I have ordered from Vilrita too. Shipping from them, Hobbium, and Ice is pricey but you must consider the uniquness of the yarn, and price. Sometimes the prices can't be beat. As Crystal says, yarn is worth what you pay for. The only place i haven't ordered from is Pleta. I do see you using the Nako yarn with another yarn. Maybe a lace or fingering weight of a bamboo or modal yarn (shine).
This is a good reminder Stacy! I also read here from another commenter that life is too short. When I have the means to enjoy something special, then just allow it to happen. I've already started enjoying the yarn and it all makes sense.
Hi Gary, happy Sunday. Lovely yarns but I think Vilrita should give their customers a choice as to whether they want their merch shipped parcel post (Post office) or courier service bcuz if someone purchases often, in the long run they’ll be spending more in shipping cost than merchandise. How’s Pixel doing? I’ve a new three month old puppy, her name is Khloe, her sister is three years old. Enjoy the rest of the day w/family.
Hi PreciousBeautyJ - I agree totally. I'm wondering if the only reason more companies don't offer public post is that they would need to do more leg work to drop off packages. Perhaps on face value it appears more cheaper onsite, but when you factor in the hidden expense - it really is more.
When I ordered from Wool Warehouse the shipping cost added 83-cents to each ball or hank of yarn, which brought their costs up to about 30% less than if I bought them in the USA. If we had to pay additional brokerage fees from the delivery service, I would add shipping plus all fees, divide it by the number of balls of yarn and add that sum to each ball. If the cost of the yarn still costs less than equal fibers purchased in the states, then I would continue to purchase from whatever country. If those fees brought the individual costs up to the same I would purchase here, I would consider yarn quality and purchase the better feeling yarn regardless of location. If the added fees make the cost of the yarn more expensive than I can get at home, then I'm spending at home.
The $11+ for ROD doesn’t sound bad since the Postal Service would charge $9.95 for shipping & handling. What sounded high to me was the $44 shipping fee charged by Vilrita as that wasn’t a very large order. But in the end we don’t have a lot of choice, do we, if we want their yarn. If all looked yummy so I am interested to see what you do with them.
Hi Gary, when I buy online, I try to get to the point of free shipping or I forget about it. Most companies have free shipping once you have bought a certain amount. But then you have to deal with customs… so now I try to buy within Canada.
I’m going through this exact situation right now. The cost for shipping, not even the taxes or any charge from like FedEx etc., is more than the actual yarn I’m hoping to purchase. By the time I pay all the extra charges it’s four times the actual price of one Hank of yarn. Unfortunately, I’m playing yarn chicken and might not have a choice if I want to complete the project. I’m very tempted to frog the whole thing and make something else. 😭
Hi Gary. I love the yarns but I would pay for that courier charge. To me it seems like that is part of the shipping fee and its almost like FedEx is double dipping. I would certainly find out what those initials stand for and what exactly they are charging you for and why.
Gary, have you considered the damage to the ozone by shopping such long distances from home? There must be lots of interesting yarn shops, using local fibers, in Canada. You would have an opportunity to help support a local enterprise as well. Just food for thought....
Hi David - I have been looking to local (or at least Canadian) over the years and still till today. When I do see a nice yarn I'll purchase it at the stores here. It's really interesting that a lot of these prices I'm seeing factor all the charges from the imports - and I generally pay more at the counter here. Either way - it's keeping people in jobs.
Gary, I’m totally confused! If you are paying for shipping to the vendor who pays Fed Ex why are you also paying Fed Ex? I have never heard of such a thing. And yes, for me if I wanted the yarn and I have . . .I would pay. And as always you picked beautiful yarn and colors! I can’t wait to see what patterns you come up with e up with!
I feel confused most of the time with all the fees too. It's taken me such a long time to realize that the price on shipping from the website does not reflect any of the third part courier costs (which is something I don't understand isn't more transparent at the point of sale).
Hi Gary nice choice of yarn but no I am not ready to pay so much extra to get any yarn. I know it may not be the company's fault but I find it really hard to pay such ridiculous prices for a ball of yarn. And it happened to me so many times that now I'm very sceptical where to get yarn from. Even iceyarns now are not as as Worthen as before, although to be honest, ice yarns do add up the vat with their total so at least I don't have any additional fees to pay when it gets here.
Hi Anna - I'm noticing that there's been a few jumps in pricing for shipping over the last 5 years. I see that being reflected in our local yarn stores having to increase their goods and stock to cover it too.
Gary, yes I probably wouldn’t purchase anymore from a company that used a delivery service that forced me to pay extra $$ to deliver my package. I think that is something that the company should advise me of before I order.
I agree with you too Marilyn - at the point of purchase on the shipping calculations - it would be nice something is generated as the usual Shipper Fee they include for picking up the package from Customs and getting it to the final leg to your house.
@@urbanyarn oh good, I know but, in case of my husband (Mr Dazzling :D ), he is feisty Star Wars fan and always making fun of my love of Star Trek :D :D :D Thank you!
I'm so glad I don't luve in Canada, every time I hear about the customs, etc. that seem to be added to everything. But I have a question - some YT channel mentioned that if it is not a finished product (yarn vs. a blanket, for example), that there should be much less in fees, etc. Is that really a thing in Canada? If so, how do couriers, etc., get away with charging so much extra? Have a great day. 🐞
Hi Amy - I couldn't answer your comment on unfinished products by-passing incurring a different fee when entering Canada - as I'm not aware of it myself.
@@urbanyarn hi, Gary I was just wondering, ty. I've only heard that once, and don't remember what channel... I've often wondered if it was correct, since pretty much all of the Canadian channels I watch mention the fees when they buy yarn internationally. Thanks, and have a great day. 🎉
Hi Jax - I'm thinking of avoiding the extra fees too. For now, I'm just going to enjoy my new found yarns... All the rest fade away once I start playing with the yarn... LOL!
I think them using a third party service and getting hit again would turn me off completely. I’d rather get hit the first time with it. At least I’d feel it was an honest rate. I can understand duty taxes being separate, that is something charged at the border by our country. Can’t be pre-calculated, but hit by shipping twice is wrong
Beautiful yarns, but I would not pay that extra fee for it to be shipped by the one company, sounds like they just want to make an extra buck. I would have thought that was what the 44 was for then to add another 11 on to it is strange.
I would absolutely not buy from certain places due additional fees.. I avoid buying from places that use FedEx due to 8 out of 10 deliver to the wrong address and never able to speak with a person to get it resolved..
The yarn you received is all beautiful colors. I’m not sure if I would pay that much in shipping unless I just really loved the yarn and couldn’t find it anywhere else. 🧶💜🙏🏻
Awesome yarn haul Gary! 🧶💜

Hello Gary.
Hi Lynette! Hope you and Roy are well. Gearing up for some Summer fun!
Try ordering that same yarn from Etsy next time. I looked it up and some of that same yarn ships from Canada. Lovely yarns though.
That's a great tip Kayemwhy!
Lovely yarn, I would really, really, really, want the yarn to pay shipping, duty and taxes etc. Hi from Winnipeg
Hello there over in Winnipeg!
😊😊😊😊❤❤❤❤
definitely would be a deterrent like you I would understand the shipping and tax but the extra from fed ex would irritate
Hi Judy - I did think the same as well. I will look elsewhere for these yarns - if (when) I enjoy them and want more.
Hi Gary, when I buy online, I try to get to the point of free shipping or I forget about it. Most companies have free shipping once you have bought a certain amount. But then you have to deal with customs… so now I try to buy within Canada.
hi Kevin - I'm going to be taking a page out of your book and return to purchase Canadian - at least while our dollar is so weak.
I don’t know what video I commented on, but I wanted to add that I take anxiety medicine and it makes me sleepy… one of the things I deal with…
I’m going through this exact situation right now. 😭
Oh no - Marlene I feel your pain.
I'm super excited that you'll have the chance to finish your project though and begin to enjoy using it.
Love the oldie's but I am a big Trekkie fan...sorry 😀😀😀😀
No apologies for being a Trekkie fan - I like them both.
@@urbanyarn hi, Gary
I was just wondering, ty. I've only heard that once, and don't remember what channel...
I've often wondered if it was correct, since pretty much all of the Canadian channels I watch mention the fees when they buy yarn internationally.
Thanks, and have a great day. 🎉
I’ve not tried them before but I am def a fee avoider !
Hi Jax - I'm thinking of avoiding the extra fees too. For now, I'm just going to enjoy my new found yarns... All the rest fade away once I start playing with the yarn... LOL!
what was thar scarf you made it is crochet but looks brioche. I meant to add it to ravelry
I hear you Laura!
I would absolutely not buy from certain places due additional fees.. I avoid buying from places that use FedEx due to 8 out of 10 deliver to the wrong address and never able to speak with a person to get it resolved..
I agree with avoiding all stores that use third party courier services like FedEx. I would try to only purchase those places that use the public post.
don't you want to name those pretty yarns that they just give a number
I could not pay the extra amount.
How’s Pixel?
Pixel is doing well - she'll be making an appearance in the next video!
If it is known when you purchase, then just allow for it.
I have never seen any of the Star Wars movies
Hi Bonnie - If you like fantasy stories - it might interest you.
I don't like all the fees
Sorry, Gary, but I'm a Trekkie from way back & much prefer Star Trek to Star Wars.
Understandable - I do like them both!
The yarn you received is all beautiful colors. I’m not sure if I would pay that much in shipping unless I just really loved the yarn and couldn’t find it anywhere else. 🧶💜🙏🏻
Hi Amy! Thank you for noticing the straight edges. I do like it when the design reflects all the considerations so it takes out the guess work.
Hi Gary, your MAL shawl is beautiful! Gorgeous yarns!
Thank you so much!
