You can't "Tariff" a product which isn't being sold in the country anyway.
The US Government WANTS them in.
      Why?
Because if they sell, it's Free money for *the government*.
China gets lets say $30 k, the same price they sell Globally.
The US government "Tariffs" the price to $60k .
      WHO gets that? (The Government)
      Who PAYS that?
      The Consumer
What does the government do with the cash?
PROBABLY bails out the US industry?
      .
What would YOU do if you were China?
      1) Sell them and have the consumer moan about "Chinese EVs just as expensive" (Prompted by the Government)
      Or
      2) Sell them EVERYWHERE else?

I see so many BYD's on the roads here and there are many other Chinese brands here that are popular like GWM and MG as well as new entries into the local market which have many pre-orders like XPeng, Leapmotor, Zeekr, Deepal etc. The popularity in Australia seems to be driven by affordable prices for the equipment you get.

I first saw a Li auto ONE back in 2018 when I was China. At that time, I was very skeptical on whether this startup would survive. But the car looked good in person and its road presence gave me a Grand Cherokee/Range Rover Vibe, just a bit more niche. Now 6 years later, the company is among the few Chinese automakers that are actually making money. Will I buy it even if it lands in Canada in 2025? Maybe not; Do I want to see it at least entering the North American market? Yes. We could use some competition to keep the ridiculous prices tags in check.
