While I whole heartly agree with that, we have to be careful with a blanket statement of physical media. There are already lots of games that come on physical media, yet are simply unplayable without installing it from the internet or requires update/activation (thanks Ubisoft) before it'll work. So while having a physical disc in your hand is nice, it's also pointless if the game isn't actually on the disc as usable.
Honestly, I am a PC player, but I try to buy from GOG whenever I can. As GOG is one of the few stores that allows for DRM backups, which lets me back up my games to DVDs/Blu-Rays/Backup NAS-Drives. Just letting me backup my games in case the store I bought it from closed "Xbox 360 store is an example". Steam does have a few DRM free games, but they are not listed, and some games that are DRM free on GOG may not be DRM free on Steam. Even movies, youtube I hate the idea of something you bought just disappeared.
@@dataterminal Thankfully a heavy majority of new games are complete on disc (and cartridge) and dont require a patch or an online connection to finish or play, if you look at doesitplay and their list of games tested, it shows physical is still very usable and we should still support the good ones to show we still want them. But we are seeing a slight uptick in games that make the disc useless and its a damn shame to see, especially xbox which just axed it for their 1st party games.
I will always buy physical media as long as it lasts, but also just because things go digital doesn't mean our rights and value in our purchases should be eroded with DRM. Which is why on the PC side I buy from GOG exclusively now.
My team and I are building a game and we're looking at different avenues, we want to have a free version of the game and then a paid version that gets the newest content updates faster than the free version. We're also playing around with the idea of our initial launch on mobile so people can help test.
I dont think I would ever buy into it specifically myself, but I have this struggle with my thoughts on it. Like I want to be fine that its an option, but I dont want it to take over or have companies think this is the way it should be. I pay for Xbox Ultimate, not for cloud, I usually dont even remember I have access to it, but Ok its there cool I guess 🤷
" You will own nothing and be happy,"😂 Is this the new mantra 😅. Us older gamers like our physical games as well our paper money😂. Digital is ok for games you dont care to much for, but if your spending your money, you want something you can touch, display and sale if you so choose. We must not give into their digital monopoly. Its lunacy 😂
@@Madlittlepixel Yeah I see your point, I wish that companies would just use it as an option for the people are fine with it, and then also give us what we want. But we both know the way companies go, and I can see why you struggle with it.

Exactly. Plus thay just took over physical media production for Disney. There's no way there stopping physical media. There's a market there that's profitable.
@retr0dk93 A lot of areas, including here and especially in Australia where there is a lot of rural areas that have garbage internet where physical is gold. I have a lot of people near me where web is either expensive so they are stuck with low speeds or they have no option but satellite and a friend I have had sub 3mbs web.

I highly doubt the majority will ever conform to 100% digital media ever tbh and blu ray as far as I know is still the best when it comes to visual quality compared to streaming, so I'm sure it'll never go away until something better is developed.

Alot of the smart tvs suck when it comes to streaming because it's usually a slower and clunky user interface with its lower ram compared to a firestick and you can bring the fire stick with you where ever you go so there's still a place for these media boxes
This is why gog gets my money I can download it, make multiple copies and even give it to others physically, If I don't own something I bought I don't want it to begin with. Any company who gets rid of physical media I will pirate instead until physical or gog version is available
Lol VHS does not last a long time. The quality of VHS under normal use lasts about 10 years at best. After that its quality lowers extremely and its fragility rises exponentially. VHS may serve a nostalgic purpose, but is by far and away the the worst way to preserve media.
Not huge news for me. I already have xbox game pass and GeForce Now side loaded on my firestick. The real news is are they gonna phase out Luna because of it.

No they should go pure physical, sells of blu rays, 4ks and even dvds are higher then they've been in years, cause people realize that streaming is a scam, and going back to physical, that's why all streaming services keeps loosing 1000s of subscribers a month
@@MegaFinalRound What they might have to do to remain profitable is revamp the Bluray format into something a bit more advanced and somehow make it backwards compatible in order to not fracture the market.
