Registrations for the tryouts were only posted on that Ausbreakers website All the women/girls that tried out were from her Ausbreakers group which was created the same month the tryouts were run. That second freeze she did was alright...not amazing. Bridge freeze are fucken hard to hold. Not that I'm much of a breaker for nearly 40 years now. I got over it when I was 14. And flexible
They are friends. Raygun has defeated Holy Molly at least three times before despite looking like the lesser talent of the two. I believe Holy Molly played a willing patsy role for Raygun to make it to Paris. The videos of their previous battles are on TH-cam.

They’re both a disaster. I can hardly believe that Australia doesn’t have better bgirls than this total embarrassment. And you should clearly stay off the molly.😂👌🏻
Molly did couple of more acrobatic handstand moves, but besides that I think Raygun was better. Raygun switched from move to move more fluidly and her performance looked more like dancing.
@@eetuhalonen9902 You are so wrong. Molly had actual footwork and was a level above Raygun. Raygun had mountain climbers and rolled around on the floor. Both no where near an average level of breakdancing though.

You know how people say that the Olympics should have one average person per event to show how impressive the actual athletes are? In breaking, they actually do that.
Ya she is honestly not very good, I wouldn't even say the other girl is great either. But the molly girl definitely is the better of the 2. At least we got a funny moment from the Olympics.

But many of Australia's top B-girls are saying on social media that the qualifying process was flawed and locked out many of the country’s best talents. Catherine Tsang, who competed as B-girl Cat for many years but is now semi-retired said there were a number of technical factors that stopped many of Australia’s best B-girls from trying out for the Olympics. The Oceania qualifying event in Sydney in 2023 was a really quick turnaround with little lead time between the announcement and the event itself. Participants had to register with three different bodies to compete and there wasn’t even enough B-girls to fill the top 16 as only 14 spots were filled - all with friends of Raygun. Holy Molly, who Raygun had battled at least 3 times before and won all 3 times despite looking like the lesser of the two (the videos are on TH-cam), seemed like a willing patsy in the qualification process. It is what it is... a manipulated process.

Australia had no business in the Olympic breaking if this was their championship. They aren't even close to the same skill level as the other nations that competed. The other nations had dancers that are well known, have big followings on YT, many WOD videos, and compete in WOD competitions. Then there is this, whatever the hell this is....
Yeah, I think the IOC and the international BALLROOM organization in charge of Breaking at the Olympics called DanceSport are thes one at fault. She wanted to bring attention to breakdancing in Australia and she managed to do that, even if that involved pissing everyone off to do it 🤣 Case and point, nobody was coming to watch these qualifiers before her Olympics appearance,
There really was no comparison here, this Molly girl was far superior not only in breaking moves but just the her dance ability in general. She should feel gutted that she got shafted here. I 100% think the only way this happened was if there was some sort of favouritism from those judges towards Raygun, there's no other explanation.
It's simple. Molly crashed in round 3, and Raygun had no crashes. It wasn't easy, but I understand why they made their decision. Also, Molly may have repeated her moves from previous battles which loses major points in breaking.
@@Chraan Lol! You're right. She played it safe. What she did was floor work which is also part of the dance. Any other day, Molly world have taken it. This was just an unfortunate turn of events. As far as scoring, crashing loses the most points. However, there should be a balance between staying clean and difficulty. Raygun lucked out this battle.
Molly was clearly robbed here. So if anything comes from this footage, it’s that ray gun is an innocent and two of those judges are guilty of this sin on breaking. Judges, please do the right thing and identify yourselves 🙏🏽🤙🏽❤️
There were 9 judges as it clearly showed at the end. All of them were clearly deluded as Raygun has and had no rhythm or skill whatsoever. She was rarely on beat, spent most of her time rolling about on the floor wrapping her foot around one of her legs, and she couldn't lift her own bodyweight off the floor, which is something you need to pull off the big moves.
Raygun wasn't innocent, she set up this governing body, she's usually a judge on it, and her husband was judging on this panel. He was also her coach at the Olympics.
I was trying to find some explanation why Raygun was considered the best to represent Australia. Sadly I didn't find it in this video. I've seen better performance at shopping malls.
This is what happens when you knowingly lie to your friends or kids by telling them they are so good at dancing, singing, drawing, etc, when really they are HORRIBLE!! 😂
The confidence is what's really killing me. I feel like... she's heard of breakdancing... but never actually seen it before. I know that's not possible since she competes against other dances, but it's the only way to explain how good she appears to think she is at this.
Not only does she compete with other dancers, she's a literal Break Doctor. Has a PhD in breaking, whatever that entails. It's basically her entire life.
Don't underestimate the delusional grandiosity of narcissists. I have one in my family who has been an aspiring singer for 20 years and it's unreal. No amount of constructive criticism ever lands.
She can't do typical bdance moves or important moves 😂😂😂 looks like more hiphop, and for a long time, she's ok with that 😅 (not doing b-dance exhibition)..And even managed to wrote a thesis and stand to represent Australia without typical skills of bdancer 😂
I wish Molly went, she was better in the air, the world is laughing at us and her.. 😅 (edit: not!) Edit : I've done a lot of research and found that Australia's breaking scene just is basically non existent. I dare anyone who is criticising Raygun or wishing Molly went to watch the olympics breaking and tell me they both wouldn't have been outclassed and laughed off stage. Or even just find footage of an actually good Australian female b-girl - it doesn't exist. There are plenty of open aussie b-girl comps online and they are all about the same or worse than Raygun. The real problem is that Australia is a continent and so we got direct olympics qualification rather than got eliminated in an earlier round like the lower breaking standard European and Asian countries. That is the fault not of these b-girls but of DanceSport and the IOC..
I had to search about Raygun because I thought it was a bad joke. She is better in the few videos I saw, but she is definitely not good enough to be at the olympics.
Nah i take it back - I’m glad Ray repped us.. hope she carries the flag at closing… breaking is an art and she has great attitude - hope u blow up from this!
so after watching the other dances in this competition.... austrailia did NOT recruit from the street, clubs, or dance companies. they also have never seen WOD. 🤷🏽♀️
I'm all for inclusivity and being supportive of people, but how has no-one told Rayon that she is not even beginner level. WTF was the decision about here, coz it sure wasn't about the quality of the breaking.
I thought she had some solidly mediocre amateur level footwork but then when she would flip around when she was supposed to go into the windmill or some other big move. I remember people in my middle school in 1983 doing some impressive stuff.
I'm from Australia and involved within the dance community. We have some really great dancers and crews here but what was shown of Australian b-girls has been absolutely atrocious lol. Did they have to pay a fee in order to enter?? Wasn't advertised enough and only a school of breakdance participated? This can't be the best BreakDancers of Australia... I refuse to think that.
As a dancer, whoever was in charge of Raygun qualifying for the olympics should be investigated. The community for breakdance is small in Australia, but it still exists. It seems not everyone was notified about this competition. Therefore, decreasing the chances of so many more Australians that would've loved to participate in this event. But if lets say, they were only able to find these small group of participants I believe she shouldve been beaten by Molly. Breakdancing is difficult and it is a form of expression. As she said multiple times. It needs both technicality and creativity. But in this competition alone, Molly out matched her. She did moves that didnt make sense, her transitions were terrible, her technicality, and her expression were all terrible. Yet she won... There are those with official titles trying to convince us that she was the best in Australia. But that is a big and terrible lie. Have the judges not been to HHI or many more hip hop competitions? If they were real breakdancers there would be no way they haven't seen those competions and see that Australia is filled with amazing passionate dancers. How could they judge so terribly? Even judges from the Olympics couldn't grant her a single point. Which goes to show just how terrible her performance was. Not only that, the world knows the truth. It was terrible. There are things hidden behind her becoming an Australia Olympian athlete. I don't know if it's Nepotism, Bribery, or some kind of deal that caused her to get this privilege. But I know for sure it was some kind of favouritism and manipulation. I hope that instead of hiding behind the closed doors the truth would reveal itself. Because this is downright offensive to so many woman breakdancers and I hope Raygun takes responsibility for her mockery of this art form. Please scout the whole of Australia for the Brisbane Olympics and give another woman the amazing opportunity to truly represent this amazing artistry. I'm excited to see the expansion of athleticism in dance becoming acknowledged by the whole world. Breakdancing is really difficult and there isn't a lot of support that goes towards this dance style. With the sport entering the Olympics, hopefully these dancers and their community will expand and give opportunity to many young hopefuls out there. Please don't mess it up again with this biased favouritism. And don't try to convince us with a lie that we can blatantly see with our two eyes.
And this is a link to a woman she competed against. th-cam.com/video/J_LEVN8LI70/w-d-xo.htmlsi=z3GdJ_SUH4rdITBe Just another example of someone that outmatched raygun levels above in terms of skill.
This comment should be up higher. I just hope they don't sell her history later like "the girl who opened the doors for australian breakdancing scene" in some kind of social martydom. I know for sure Australia has better dancers.
Not casting a wide enough net and Molly doing repeat moves is what got the limp worm into the Olympics. "Ray Gun's" inclusion more or less just organizational incompetence. Regarding the sport entering the olympics, it's not even in the next line-up, which was already decided before the Paris Olympics even begun. Hell, there's an actual conspiracy around it entering in the first place. Who knows if LA is gonna change their minds on its exclusion, it's their event and there's a ton of sports they could demo instead. But I already know who people will blame that on. The public didn't really care about breakdancing until there was drama.
Re: repeat moves rule needs to be eliminated or modified somehow, because as we all know and can see, there IS such a thing as performing the move better, flawlessly versus sloppily. Let ppl perform the same moves and reward the one that performs it better
You are incorrect. I encourage you to read Aja Romano's well-researched Vox article on the matter: "How Raygun earned her spot - fair and square - as an Olympics breaker."
Raygun is look like she is trying to do what other breakers do, but every time it seems this going to be a bit more advanced move all the extremities are touching the gorund. Girl is figthing gravity, and gravity wins every time.
She said she was trying to bring her own style. She lying she knows the moves but can't do them style. I don't feel sorry for her because she wanted ballroom dancing and was sent there to suck and she sucked so much that it's bringing out the truth. She thought she only sucked a little. No it was alot
This was almost a year ago u would think she would have trained for a year and be better she was worse . She didn't do nothing to lead up to the Olympics. she should have got -9 points
she did safe moves. mostly floorwork, some transitions are smooth and cool with good control, but there is nothing exciting nor entertaining, because she don't do advanced moves. and she is slower and weaker than molly. but battle is about performing better relatively. so you can be weaker but your opponent may crash or didn't deliver.
I hope this is all part of a comedy sketch by "Raygun".... A few months after the Olympics she releases a documentary about her journey to the Olympics and how she snuck into the green track suit all the way to Paris

For those asking why Raygun didn't "score" any points at the Olympics, please allow me to explain. Firstly, unlike other sports, the system used at the Olympics had no points or scores. Yes I know that sounds wierd, but let me explain. The system used (which I have my own opinion about) works differently than a point system. It does not tell you how well someone did. Yes I know, that sounds strange. There are three things that the "Level A" system tells you. 1. Rounds won 2. Judge votes 3. Criteria ratings. The most important thing is "Rounds won". Each side takes a turn (called a round), and each of the judges, subjectively chooses who they think won. Whomever the majority of judges choose as the winner of the round, wins the round. I guess you can call this a point, but we call it a round. The battle can be extremely close and amazing, but whomever wins a two out of three rounds, wins the battle (match). Now, for the round robin qualifications, sometimes, two or more people win the same a mount of Rounds. So they determine who advances, by the total amount of judges votes. Raygun had the hardest bracket. The three other girls are global champions. She did not win a single vote. However, there are other contestant who also didnt win votes, but did very well, (not saying Raygun did well either) Now when a judge casts their subjective vote, they need to touch atleast one of the 5 criteria. The criteria is on a slider, which they slide to the left or right, and depending how much the judge thinks they won that criteria by, they can slide the criteria lever even farther to the left or right. So this does not tell you how well someone did in the criteria, but rather how much they won or lost by. (Yes I know that is kind of weird for the Olympics) Therefore, when you ask why didn't Raygun score any points, it's because there really are no points to score, just win votes. If you want to see how well the judges rated her according to the criteria, I believe each of the judges criteria is up online somewhere, perhaps on the Olympics website. From what I heard but haven't seen, Raygun was rated higher than her opponents in Originality, but wasn't enough to win her a single vote. Once again, I'm not trying to gaslight or convince anyone anything about Rayguns performance at the Olympics. I. Just trying to educate non-breakers how the criteria and Olymoic Level A system works since everyone is asking why Raygun didn't score any points
You mean you've never seen that ancient Greek pottery depicting the Olympics of Athens ...baton twirling, synchronized swimming, and whatever this shite is

@@abasslinelow You knew what? Something that feeds into your pre-existing narratives about woke/anti-woke?! If you can find me a video of an australia breaker on youtube who is clearly better than Raygun and equally as good as the other women who competed in the video I'd give you $1000.. . Too bad it's impossible because Raygun is just a reflection of Australia's sub-par breakdancing culture for women. No matter who we sent we were going to be clowned at the competition no question. The real conspiracy is why were given a continental position rather than forced to go through Asia or Europe before the olympics.. I'm sure there's plenty of european countries or asian countries with bad breakdancing but we never saw them because they were eliminated early. We should have been eliminated early too. It's the fault of the IOC and World Dance Sport who gave us a direct qualitification when we were so bad - they likely did it because they wanted breaking in the 2032 brisbane olympics.. But it was so bad this entirely backfired yeah.
Watching Raygun from the memes, I must say I expected worse here. She did an OK routine. Good footwork with standard vocabulary. Nothing weird or ridiculous as she later did in the Olympics when she doubled down on “creativity”. Molly was unimpressive either. Clearly more athletic than Raygun and with a sharper top rock, but she lacked blending moves with the beat of the music, specially in the first round. She transited through several handstands and high freezes, none of them executed according to plan. Wondering if that was the best Oceania could offer.
Looks to me like the Olympic routine was improvised, possibly with entirely unrehearsed moves. But having seen two of the three battles in this championship... I don't think her Olympic performance was actually below her ability. And having seen footage of her husband breaking, it appears to be a communicable disorder.
How TF did Molly not win this round? I know next to nothing about break dancing but even I can tell her moves are cleaner, more coordinated, and more like break dancing than whatever rAyGuN is doing here. I’m more angry about this than I should be lol
Nah, experts who I trust say Raygun had 'cleaner' moves.. To which I say better at cleaning the floor?! But yeah, if you know breaking apparently Raygun was better yeah.
@@George2647g I have seen other people explain that Molly was repeating too much, which apparently is not good in breaking, so that makes sense. But also a lot of people are saying they didn't really scout enough for breakers and only scouted at universities, so they missed out on a lot of talent!
I can't believe this was the qualifying round for a spot in the Olympics. When you see what other female breakers from around the world are doing & this is what Australia offers up! It's just crazy.
So it turns out that Raygun helped set up the governing body here, and her husband was on the judging panel. Her husband was also the Australian breakdancing coach at the Olympics. Sounds a bit rigged to me.

unbelievably bad comes close - almost - fucking appalling and an insult to athletes and 'dancers' the world over!

Yes in the 2nd round she was doing a fake version of the power move called windmills. She's just rolling around mimicking the difficult move
Raygun was shit in that comp. I wish Molly was representing Australia
Still would've scored 0
It was like she did the same thing but 1.25x speed
but it would have been forgotten the next day, meanwhile this is going to be remembered for a while @@uncokee
I hope this is all part of a comedy sketch by "Raygun".... A few months after the Olympics she releases a documentary about her journey to the Olympics and how she snuck into the green track suit all the way to Paris
Look up Redbull Breaking 2023 and then come back to this lol
If they were the finalists the breaking standards in AUSTRALIA is poor
Jokes aside, people are talking about breakdancing and here watching old comps.
She kangaroo danced right off the cliff as a sacrifice for the sport…..respect.
I didn't even know breakdancing was an Olympic sport before today, and now I've watched 5 womens matches and the men's gold medal final. They were mostly pretty cool
So I guess Raygun is the hero breakdancing needs to grow the event
@@RyantheCanuckpirate Love this comment. Great perspective
@@RyantheCanuckpiratelol no this was the first year and prob last but I def would not have known if it wasn’t for her
Raygun performance was like a Kangaroo caught in the glare of high beam headlights right before it gets hit by a Mack truck.
What the hell were you thinking Australia lol
We did it as a joke…... I hope.
dumb judges send dumb "athlete". I'm thinking australia moyt be kanna dumb

Please forgive us. The embarrassment is real.
This be me in the sheets when I can't get to sleep.
There is no way that these 2 are any country's best. They are not even break dancing. This looks more like toddlers in tumble class.
here after watching the Olympics.. I was sure I'd see a better performance from Raygun.. I was wrong..
Is floor mopping a new olympic sport?
🤣🤣
😂😂😂😂😂
This is Australia's best????? You gotta be lying...these girls are beginners..Raygun is trash....I saw better breaking in my hallway in HS...granted I'm from NYC but this is a mockery of breaking.
Nah you're right, this is trash, this isn't the best that Australia has to offer, it just seems to be the best of who actually entered. You know how it is, a lot of BBoys/ BGirls don't think Breaking should be in the Olympic.
Well breaking is banned in our schools and we weren’t set up for competitive breaking across the country until very recently so the culture just ain’t there. As a result you get this..
I’m Aussie I’m dismayed. Sorry I seen better in Melbourne on the street. Girls doing flares
well it is Australia. it doesn't have that urban vibe of NYC. Its more like little house on the prairie in the outback
@@Lupi33znice 👍 stereotyping Breaking
that was actually shocking. either one or all of the judges definitely went home with a brown envelope
@@George2647g Nahh...
@@George2647g haha read something about that this morning yea. was he actually a judge here or just on the committee or something? bit sus either way
Committee @@mackrevhe goes by bboy Sammy the free or just Sammy
If you think Molly wouldn't have been just as outclassed and Raygun you ain't watch the olympics breaking. The rest of the world was WAYYYY better than us. The real reason we got exposed so bad is because we have no scene and the whole contient immediately qualified. If we were some European country we would have been outclassed before the olympics and you never would have heard of us yeah..
@@George2647g I just told my wife I felt bad for Australia when I thought she was a fraud. And now I feel worse for Australia because I see she got there legitimately. It's the Jamaican bobsled team all over again.
1. Rounds won
2. Judge votes
However, there are other contestant who also didnt win votes, but did very well, (not saying Raygun did well either)
Now when a judge casts their subjective vote, they need to touch atleast one of the 5 criteria.
The criteria is on a slider, which they slide to the left or right, and depending how much the judge thinks they won that criteria by, they can slide the criteria lever even farther to the left or right.
So this does not tell you how well someone did in the criteria, but rather how much they won or lost by. (Yes I know that is kind of weird for the Olympics)
Therefore, when you ask why didn't Raygun score any points, it's because there really are no points to score, just win votes.
As someone who doesn't understand breakdancing, I can judge Moly better than raygun, what's in the judges' brains 🤣🤣🤣
3:23 "... in a couple of minutes, one of them is gonna go bananas..." Sure did🤣
And they sent Raygun to the Paris Olympics for real?
Why the hell was this shit in the Olympics? I thought everyone was joking🤣
Breakdancing is actually cool, but not from these two 😭😭
"Aussies can't breakdance" is the new "white men can't jump"
You mean you've never seen that ancient Greek pottery depicting the Olympics of Athens ...baton twirling, synchronized swimming, and whatever this shite is

Because France is weird.
Google "Deterritorializing gender in Sydney's breakdancing scene: a B-girl's experience of B-boying", that's Raygun's breakdancing PhD thesis. Btw she's been "breakdancing" for 16 years...
I knew it. I fucking knew it. Once I found out she was a 36 y/o uni professor with a goddamn PhD in breaking, I knew it.
Sounds like a really cool and intentional individual who has a slightly different old school style than what’s super popular on TikTok so everyone thinks it’s ok to shit on her even though she earned her place as an Olympian bgirl 👍
@@Phbalancedshorty she scored 0 all round, stop defending her
@@abasslinelow You knew what?

Watching Raygun from
the memes, I must say I expected worse here.
But also a lot of people are saying they didn't really scout enough for breakers and only scouted at universities, so they missed out on a lot of talent!
if these people are 100% sober god bless their hearts. It was hard to watch via 2nd hand embarrassment in the fucking olympics.
Are the judges her students worrying about their grades?
I heard that one was her hubby. So he might have a number of things to be worried about. 😂
I just watched the movie Dodgeball. I feel this was a good follow up
I can't believe this was the qualifying round for a spot in the Olympics. When you see what other female breakers from around the world are doing & this is what Australia offers up! It's just crazy.
Are you saying these two were the Australia's finest? That is hard to believe.
Off topic/on topic: why is the music so bad?
its australia, you have to turn the music upside-down to listen properly
TH-cam royalty free music
It's to match the quality of the breaking
Seriously! It sounds like big band it’s awful for this.
Only 7 percent of the country listens to hip hop. They like country music more. The hip hop culture is lacking there.
Raygun is a national treasure and she must be protected.
Like Angry Anderson singing at the AFL Grand Final or Shapelle Corby or ScoMo sh!tting his pants at Engadine Maccas,....
Pigs arse
Molly having the last laugh now.
More like realizing she dodged a bullet.
So it turns out that Raygun helped set up the governing body here, and her husband was on the judging panel. Her husband was also the Australian breakdancing coach at the Olympics.
Sounds a bit rigged to me.

Who knew Rachel wasnt the problem...its actually the australian style as a whole
If you are telling me Raygun was better than Molly im telling you the comp was rigged from the start, disgraceful
Indian-Australians who are into Bollywood break dancing, please start to participate and save our country's honour next time
Bro what? Blue shirt girl wasn’t bad, not enough to maybe place for a medal in the Olympics but with some more rehearsals she wouldn’t have been kangaroo hopping on a worldwide stage 😭😭😭
Y'all misunderstood Raygun! She sacrificed her own image so the whole world could remember Bdance! Salute to Raygun!😂😂😂
When it boils down to, yeah. People in general have already forgot most of great Olympics moments last two weeks already. What she did is still ongoing and bringing attention to breaking, for better or worse. I hope for the sport to thrive in a long run.
Raygun is like a mom trying to show how cool she is by breaking in front of your friends.
Australia clearly has its own style
