Hi there. Have just discovered your channel and I can’t get enough. Your presentation style is so natural and the information so valuable. So just a big THANKS!
Good evening, sir. Ed Ostermeyer here. I'm co-designer with Dr. Jeremy White of GMT Games' "Infernal Machine: Dawn of Submarine Warfare." Just to catch you up on the game's progress, we are currently (1 December 2022) play testing the Scenarios. Like Jeremy White's "Enemy Coast Ahead" series, the Scenarios start at the climax of the game: the Attack Run on an enemy vessel. Subsequent scenarios gently introduce rules, game mechanics and the corresponding game system, all to assist the budding Inventor in starting to play the game, right after the shrink wrap is peeled off the game box. By the way, the scenarios can be modified in several unique ways, becoming a test bed slash sandbox for both the design and the operation of your underwater Wonder of the Age. A comment you made in your review here in your "Upcoming Wargames of 2022 and Beyond" has stayed with me: "I think losing (Infernal Machine) is going to be as much fun as winning because of the number of different ways that this game can go sideways." This is what Jerry and I are striving for with "Infernal Machine." Check us out at : www.gmtgames.com/p-963-infernal-machine-dawn-of-submarine-warfare.aspx Thanks again for your kind assistance, and Good Luck & Good Gaming! Onward! Ed O.
Thanks for the great update, Ed! I saw the game (partially demoed) at one of the online SD Hist Cons and it sounds like great progress has been made since then. I'm also excited to see that the game is only a few more orders away from that magic 500 mark! (492 as I write this.) A slight "pre-congratulations" for the upcoming milestone!
Great review of games coming up. Enemy Action Kharkov looks great. I have Last stand Battle for Moscow and Kharkov Battles ready to go to the table .... both look good. Keep up the enthusiasm and great content. BTW 2x good book on the tank battles on the Eastern Front are by Robert Forczyk titled Tank Warfare on the Eastern front 41-42 and 43-45 ... very detailled
Thanks! Kharkov Battles looks particularly interesting, yes. I have a few East Front games I want to get to the table before I get others, but I'd be interested to hear how you like them. :) ~ And I've added both books to my Amazon list, thanks! I'm a big fan of book/game combos. :)
I played Squad Leader and ASL back in the day, but finally gave up on them due to the rules complexity. So, the 9+ game, although very interesting to my eyes, would be too much for the little amount of gray matter I still have.
I'm at the other end, hoping to dig into ASL this year, just got Beyond Valor. It definitely is one of the more complex wargames, much harder than most. :)
Bit off topic here. New to this board game thing and going solo. Bought Sherman Commander to start. Not here yet, but looking forward to setting it up. Since you're knowledgeable at this, is that a good starter. What would you recommend for a rookie?
Any chance you mean Sherman Leader? I think that can be a great place to start yes, although there are a lot of factors like past boardgaming experience, determination, interest, etc. :) ~ By Stealth & Sea is also quite accessible and not super complicated. That would be another one that comes to mind that I've played, for an intro solitaire experience.
Me too. I'm very curious to see the different mechanics in the game. It sounds like they've expanded on the model and added some depth to a few of the mechanics. :)
That's an interesting question. I feel like The Hunters could do more with crew and commander advancement, almost a mini-RPG type of character development. I'm curious to see how they're handling it in Sensuikan, but it'd be fun to mod a system for The Hunters in any case. Tricky part would be not making it too fiddly or too overpowered.
I backed Purple Haze which is currently (03 Feb 2022) on Gamefound. This is a squad based Vietnam war game with some unique game mechanics and shooting resolution. It says 1-4 players, but it looks like a good solo game to be honest. Looking forward getting it in 2023 as it is 300% funded at the moment.
I think an unboxing of the 10-pound behemoth Pacific War will the first one to make it to the channel. It'll probably take me a long time to learn it though, and I'm not sure something of that scale would work well on the channel, but we'll see. Sensuikan and Infernal Machine are perfect fits for Submarine Mondays. I Napolean I think will be a blast to bring to the channel. Heck, I'm excited to play/video all of these. :)
Omg you continue to find so much Gold with these games. Im excited to see what will make your channel as play throughs. The Napoleon one defo peaked my interest
Had Pacific War and preorder but had to bail out. Would be swell to own that one but alas... Good list you have. There are so many other games I have preordered/am awaiting not listed here. :)
Yes, that's a marvelous idea for a game, the execution will be key. I'm cautiously optimistic that it'll live up to expectations. We'll see! Sounds like it might make a 2022 release too. :)
That was interesting & informative. Like the look of Kharkov & Offensive Roads. Sub games always get my attention Sensuikan looks very playable, while Infernal Machine cannot be released quick enough. A fun game in the making. I have just finished placing the stickers for C&C Samurai Battles and hope to play the walk through this evening.
@@ZillaBlitz Really enjoyable even though it took me a while, longer but for the aid card. Just need to get used to the finer points of the game. Battles in the play book look like a real challenge.
Hi, I think I saw a wargame on TH-cam, which also had a rulebook for two players and a different rulebook for solitaire play, but was not part of the Enemy Action Series. I think it was released within the last 3 years or near future. I cannot find it. (perhaps an illusion) Does anyone have an idea? (It was not SpaceCorp.)
Thank you for responding so fast. I am really not sure. If I recall it right, it was post WWII and had a quite simple cover with two colours and a soldier or a tank on it. But as I said, I am probably hunting an illusion that I made up myself after watching 20 top ten lists.
Hmmm. It's not ringing a bell for me, but I don't have a lot of post-WW2 games. I'm not familiar with that many games that have full rulebooks for both 2-player and solo. I mean, I've run into some that have solo rules or explanations in either the main rulebook or a supplementary document, but not a dedicated rulebook for it.
Seems, in a delirium, I mixed Enemy Action, Hot Dry Season an Avalon Hill's Panzerblitz together. Thanks for your answers. If I find out something, I will post it here.
Ha! Sounds good, if I run into anything I'll add to this conversation too. It's very possible it exists, I'd been away from wargaming for a long time until last year.
I have Pacific War on preorder and am just waiting for it to ship. I might be interested in Infernal Machine and I, Napoleon. I need to read more about them. Lanzerath Ridge will probably be great, but I need to wait for my Soldiers in Postmans Uniforms to arrive so I can see how I like the series. It's notable that David Thompson has also announced the next Undaunted game, which will be Stalingrad.
Lanzerath Ridge will be my first foray into the series, I've had the other three in shopping carts a few times and then decided to wait for this one. And funny you should mention that, but I actually had all the notes down for including Undaunted Stalingrad to this video then swapped it out at the last minute to get a bit more variety. If this video does okay, I'll probably include that one in the second edition. Looks quite inviting!
A lot of really cool looking games! I'm excited to see what you will make of some of them. I particularly liked I, Napoleon and Votes for Women. They just look a little different and feel exciting to me. Great video, by the way, I really love how you're expanding your content!
I'm really curious to see how I, Napoleon plays, as that one seems like it will immediately make good video content. :) And Votes for Women is such a great topic to build a game around. So happy that that one is coming out this year. :)
Ah, now I understand, thanks. It's still not released yet, I believe? The English version on Nuts! Publishing says "Available Soon" but I'm not sure yet when it's expected, unfortunately. Looks like a bit more waiting. :)
Haha! My virtual self apparently has moved, yes. Loving the rain. :) ~ And yeah, with the shipping congestion shaking free, it feels like there are so many new games coming at us. I can't keep up, have to control myself! :)
My wallet won't like you anymore if you keep enticing me with submarine games! Pacific War, the Japanese equivalent of Silent Victory and coming out sometime in 2023 Sentinel, destroyers hunting U-Boots in the Atlantic! So little time and so many games! Zee quick question. The 'C' on your hat. Level and or Cincinnati?
It's going to be hard for me to resist many of the submarine games, yes. And there's Wolfpack from GMT in the P500 queue as well. And I can think of a few more off the top of my head. I shot this on two separate days, so there are two hats I think. The lighter blue is Chicago Cubs (baseball), the blacker one is Chicago Bears (NFL). :)
I thought I was going to get away with it (my wallet needs a rest after my Kickstarter pledge for the Skyrim board game was collected), but that I, Napoleon game just drew me in..and bang.
Oh, Skyrim board game? Now that sounds interesting too! I know I shouldn't think this way, but the good thing about P500 is that you don't pay right away. Somehow it doesn't feel like I've spent money if I'm going to pay for it at some undetermined point in the future. But yeah, I, Napoleon just sounds tremendous. I've pre-ordered as well.
Looks at calendar ... gets excited. Thanks! I check their website off and on, that'd be awesome if it's this month and they reach the US in March-ish. :)
I'm currently looking forward to the release on Twilight Struggle: Red Sea - Conflict in the Horn of Africa and Flashpoint: South China Sea. This will be the first version of twilight struggle which will contain a solo bot. It's will also be a much smaller version of the origonal Twilight Struggle. I personnally have not played twilight struggle so this is no big deal to me. I'm currently looking into Time of Crisis. Votes for Woman I heard of and have interest but have not received much information. Will have to checkout twitter. Thanks for sharing your list.
I've played a good bit of 2-player Twilight Struggle, really fun game, definitely helps to have some experience with it and once you start to learn the cards it gets much better and deeper. I've not looked at the new release yet, but if it's anything like the original, it'll be fantastic. I've seen some tweets on Flashpoint: South China Sea, and it looks interesting for sure. I'm interested in Votes for Women, but not familiar with Time of Crisis. I'll check it out! Thanks for stopping in!
Thanks! Why am I not surprised that Votes for Women would be at the top of your list? I'll be very curious to hear your thoughts on it after you get to play it some. :)

I think there are a lot of gamers out there who will really enjoy this one, for sure. :)
Just backed Purple Haze - looks really good
A few people have mentioned this one now. I'm going to make another video in a couple of weeks. I'll see if I can include that one, thanks. :)
