I grew up with Stephan Fujikami as a classmate at Iolani. As we grew older, we all purchased leis from Fujikami Florist for our prom dates.
Many years later, when I returned to Hawaii to scatter my father's ashes off Diamond Head, I called Stephen for bouquets for both my father and my previously deceased mother.
The biodegradable arrangements were beautiful.
Even though I am thousands of miles away, Fujikami Florist is is a part of the ohana that makes Hawaii special. Mahalo nui loa for just being there.

My mom, a new immigrant who couldn’t speak English got hired there. The older women, the supervisors especially were incredibly cruel to the younger, junior staff. In addition they would not get paid regularly and get paid later with no explanation. The old man, didn't care whether they did or didn't get paid. He was cold, aloof and unapproachable. He was a real taisho. He was disliked by staff except the suck ups. Luckily my mom escaped this horrid place and got a way better job with Hawaii Blossoms. So please not glorify this old man. He was many things and multifaceted a product of his times and generations.
