  • The original L1 speaker system was a revolution back in 2003 when Bose first revealed the modular line array PA system. Now in 2020, Bose have redesigned this popular system from the ground up with innovative features such as an oval Race Track subwoofer and inbuilt Tone Match mixer. Today we take a look at the Pro16 model which sits in the middle of the range, aiming to provide the perfect blend of power and portability!

    Great honest review. I'm totally surprised Bose doesn't have a stereo-matching feature. I can pair two blue tooth speakers from my phone and run them as one. You'd think Bose would have figured this out.

    • @madness8556
      @madness8556 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It's a ridiculous limitation but then again my Evolve 30Ms have the same limitation and you need an actual XLR cable in order to use 2 speakers for stereo Bluetooth operation.

    Thank you so much for your review. We are a small cover band with all DI instruments (guitar, base, electronic drums) and microphones. We are looking to upgrade our 100W entry level PA to something portable and higher quality. I've always been a Bose fan and have had a Bose Home Theater 12 system that is still amazing after 25 years. I just had a listen to the L1 Pro 8 at my local Guitar Center, and I believe that the Pro 16 (or a pair of them eventually) will be a perfect system for our band.

    7 foot tall on a standard floor? so you have 1 foot of speakers 3-4 drivers shoot out over the crowd? seems a shame vs a typical crowd....lot of wasted sound!

    • @NathanNagel
      @NathanNagel 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well except that it is barely pitched forward so that the 7ft part throws to the people in the back otherwise all the high frequency would be soaked up by the people in front of it if it was only 5 foot tall or so.

    Purchased two BOSE L1 Pro 16 units. The instructions state it must be updated before it is used. Why it doesn't come updated from the factory is beyond me. The first one updated just fine. The second unit failed to connect. Hours upon hours of trouble shooting, I called BOSE support and they advised me to take it back. Took it back to Guitar Center and came home with a replacement. BOOM! Nothing. Same issue as the last one. Called BOSE support again and they said they would get back to me "within a few days." Took that one back today and received yet a third replacement. This one also fails to update but on top of that, the lighting on the mixer is sketchy and appears to have got past QA. When I return this one, it will be my 4th unit. I am 1/2 tempted to just return both and be done with it. When you shell out this kind of coin for an item, it should work right out the box, no questions asked. What a disappointment.

    Thank you for the very detailed review! I have an L1 Pro8 and would like to add a second unit (I have a big space!) but only if I can get stereo sound. Is that possible now with these units? Had there been a firmware update to allow this? It seems like such a basic option.

    • @Crossfader
      @Crossfader  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Each speaker unit is mono but to achieve stereo you would wire the left channel to one setup and the right channel to the other. So for example, your Pro 8 would be left and this Pro 16 could be right. Then just place them in different corners of the room and you've got it :)

      I just picked one up yesterday and I was surprised how good it sounded for how light it was. The coverage was way better than my QSC speakers. The 180 degrees is no joke. There are better sounding speakers at this price point... but not better sounding speakers in this weight category. As a mobile DJ, I will def pay more for convenience... and my back thanked me.

  • @iansmith7698
    @iansmith7698 3 ปีที่แล้ว +16

    Very disappointing that you haven't mentioned the serious design defect of that cheap and nasty plastic connector unit, or more importantly, the fact it means the speaker towers have a very loose fit that causes the towers to sway with little to no provocation. No professional DJ worth their salt would want to risk these at a professional gig, and for Bose to have made such a fundamental mistake at such a high price point smacks, frankly, of incompetence.. Several DJs have published reviews explaining that they've returned their systems because of this "schoolboy error" of design and for you to ignore it (you can see how loose the fitting is even in your video) is very strange and misleads potential purchasers. Interestingly, the editor of a lUK mobilel DJ magazine who has enthusuastically reviewed the Pro 8 (different design) and will be reviewing the Pro 32 (again, different design) has been told by Bose that it's pointless to review the Pro 16 because "It's not a good match for DJs"!!!!! This smacks of artifice and wanting to hide the issue, just as you have done in your review. After all this is a model that they specifically mention as being tailored for DJs in their promotional video! I smell a huge rat and anybody (like me) who loves the Bose sound and elegant design and was therefore considering this model should thoroughly investigate this unit's "wobbliness" at any store that has demo models, or more realistically just pretend it doesn't exist and buy the smaller and weaker sounding Pro 8 or the way more expensive Pro 32.

      Absolute nonsense, there are some people making an issue out of something that doesn’t exist. At worse there is a slight sway which in no way dangerous, unstable or insecure and to be clear all line array speakers from other brands also sway. There is nothing wrong with the plastic spacer, making an issue of the space being made of plastic is such and boomer comment and shows no understanding of plastics and its structural integrity.
      If the edge case that is used to hype up the tower sway is to be taken literally then having a speaker on a pole with a tripod spread all over the floor and spaghetti cabling isn’t more dangerous then your living in an alternate reality

    I use a tonematch 4s mixer at my school and it will appear that in design Bose wanted this to be used with a tonematch mixer. So if using a pair then the tone match would set BOTH speakers and also the tonematch mixer has two tonematch outputs. One for the right speaker and one for the left. Using the app seems to be for solo musicians.

    Hi, I am a solo acoustic performer, running vocals and acoustic guitar, along with my loop pedal. I recently purchased a pro 16. The Outdoor the sound is incredible, couldn’t be happier….
    however in a loud party room with no more than 100 people, I crank the volume up and the sound becomes weirdly muddy, almost distorted and feels like it’s sending more of the sound to the subwoofer. I have messed around with lowering the bass to almost as low as it can go and I can’t get rid of the muddy bass-like sound at high volumes. Any one else had this issue or any experts able to offer me advice? Is it possible I have a faulty product or do I just need to work on my EQing?? Thanks

    Thanks for this review. I have the Bose L1 Pro16. Can you explain what the lights in the control knobs for treble and bass do (for the 3 channels)?
    You have the option of just the top 12 o''clock light on, called "neutral". Does that mean no processing is done, like "0" on a standard guitar amp? You can also have the right-hand lights on from 12 o'clock to 5 o'clock simultaneously (by turning the control knob clockwise). Does that mean 'add treble in larger amounts from 12 to 5'? How about the meaning of the left-hand side, lighting the lights from 12 o'clock to 7 o'clock, turning the control knob counterclockwise. Does that "take away" treble in some way?
    Thanks!

    Did you have any issues with the extension tube being plastic? On one of the only other reviews currently out there, the reviewer apparently sent his back due to several issues one being that the extension tube was poorly made and did not provide solid support for the metal upper speaker array. I am not certain I would ever use the extension since it only adds about a foot of elevation. On my L1 Compact, I typically use both of the extensions but the speaker array is much smaller and seems sturdy even after 5 years.

      Hi, i have an older L1 system myself. In my opinion for a livingroom like application this is way to powerful. It is meant for weddings or small to medium parties. By the time you get all the bass out if it, it will kill your eardrums. If you do not plan on using it somewhere else i highly recommend something smaller. The SoundTouch series from bose are excellent and sound superb.

    Never been a fan of Bose. The clarity is excellent but the BASS is almost nonexistent.
    Dollar for dollar my friends spent from $3000 to $5000 on home Theater systems from Bose. The surround was great while the BASS was again nonexistent.
    I bought 2 Cerwin Vega XLS- 28’s, Cerwin Vega 900 Amp, one Stereo Receiver at $1800. This system shakes my house.
    While Bose has the wide array of sound that is clear, you can get two 12” RCF Satellites with two 15” Subs with another 18” Sub for backup in big rooms for far less $$$$.
    I always enjoy Crossfader reviews. You guys are great 👍!!!
