There are dozens of us! Dozens! My biggest FFXIV achievement will forever be a little Sprout I met in Praetorium who admired my character. A week later I ran into him again in CT. He had switched from Midlander to male Duskwight.
Male Duskwight Elezen #11 checking in here! I'm usually minding my own business in the game but occasionally people will still stop and point at me out of nowhere. At first it confused me until I realised I could count the Duskwights I've seen on one hand 😂

Femroe here. I love the cutscenes 😂 I feel like an elementary school teacher bringing the class on a field trip. Everyone is just breaking their necks to talk at me as if they are about to ask for fruit snacks, a capri sun, and to help them out of their coat.
And it's always funny to be hanging out in limsa and finding a lala hiding under my skirt. Like laying an egg or something

Literally just chose Roegadyn because it most closely resembled Ganondorf. And when I joined during ShB... the cosplay for Ganondorf was at it's easiest I'd argue.
I've seen someone be Ganondorf before and yeah they were a Roe too it was pretty awesome.

The odd part: The "male player on female Lalafel" stereotype, is actually much more prevalent on hrothgar males.
The actual reason for the male player on female lalafel is cause that fucking banshee voice exists that makes them scream like you just stepped on a Lego.

that's what people don't understand about default human players. You need to be such a level of unhinged that it all loops back around to looking normal, just to play a default human in a fantasy setting. Actual normies pick anything but.

I had literally never heard of the Male Au'ra stereotype until this video. I made my Au'ra character because I wanted to make a Qestiri Au'ra because I thought it'd be cool to play a character who doesn't speak. And now I've got RP partners piled up around me because people find that dark and mysterious.

The best thing about Lalafells is Coca Cola is technically a lore accurate name. Nah, I like my little guy. I've always liked races like Gnomes and shit because they're just silly little bastards. I find the people that actually play this race have the best sense of humor and generally just want to be your buddy.

I'm a Dragoon main and play male Au Ra. It took so long for me to make the switch because of how goofy they look when they stand and run but after applying my glams on them, I believe I found my style. Wasn't even aware of the male au ra stereotypes but didn't really care about it since I only wanted to look my best.
I love my au ra, maybe it's just because I picked xaela with the black eyes and horns but I think they are easily the best looking race if you want to lean into the dark brooding look or just go full edge lord. I mean that has got to be the reason the mentor for dark knight is an au ra.

I played as female Elezen for a bit and gotta say: it made many of my glams rather high fashion - they are so elegant! Actually I like the longer neck since it makes choker and the like more pronounced😊
I know right?! I've heard that tired giraffe joke when I started playing years ago and never found it funny. Mostly because I never understood it. Elezen look fine imo. Their necks may be long but it doesn't really seem absurdly long.

Male Eleven here, the neck can be a bit annoying (I'm not into wearing chockers personally) can make me look weird, but lean into the elegance and dress properly and you can get a pretty nice look.
For real I've had FC members forget my race because my style fits the character so well.

I have a solution for the no eyebrows, if you go into face paint you can apply some eyebrows there!!
@@Raven_Frame I already do that. It only works on dark skin types, tho. If the skin is too light, or the hair too fair (hey that rhymed), the eyebrows look too noticeably painted on.
I still love Highlanders, but it's one of the downsides.
I've heard vaguely of the Au Ra drama, but haven't involved myself with it. As a female Miqo'te player I'm already well aware of the stereotypes surrounding my chosen race, but I'm not bothered by that either, considering I picked the race because I've always been a cat person in real life and I find the Miqo'te adorable. I'm fully secure in that, and I wouldn't want to judge other players by their choice of character either, regardless of whatever drama's circulating online. I just kinda want everybody to enjoy the game and to have fun. 😺
As a fem Elezen player, I agree. Also most fem Elezen players have an amazing fashion sense. Though I don't like to include myself in that category (I mean I do like to put work on my glams mind you), some of the glams from these players I've seen around have become all-time favourites.

I love playing an Elezen and I’m really proud of how my character looks. It’s the first character I made in an MMO where I was actually proud of how he turned out right out of the gate. I love getting comments from players in Duty Finder like “Ooooh a cute Elezen!” I was actually invited to a discord vc by a player who introduced me with "Here's an Elezen I found! He's a rare breed!" There was also a venue I went to that a friend of mine worked at, and he told me the whole staff was chatting about how good my giraffe man looked after I left. Even convinced him to fantasia into an Elezen!
I'm happy with my pointy eared giraffe man, and I don't think I'm ever gonna change to any other race.

Former fem'ra, switched to middy a couple months ago! I'm really into writing my character's backstory and lore, and as much as I adored my au'ra, something about her didn't quite seem to fit in cutscenes the way I wanted her to. Since switching to middy, it feels so much more like the WoL in my head. So much so, that I decided to do a run of ShB NG+ and I am falling more in love with her every cutscene.

I picked Midlander because I don't really like being a tall race. I'm a short guy and I like being short in games because it helps me connect a bit more to my character. I don't really care for being a Miqo'te or Male Viera because they're quite literally everywhere and I'd rather my character feel a bit more personalized. There's other Midlanders of course but people often tell me that mine stands out from them. Now even if I wanted to, I wouldn't change.
Honestly part of why I think male au ra has such bad rep is because there are no good male au ra in the msq to counter balance whatever goes on in the community.

Nahbdeen? Literal who that only became a meme because of his ugly face.
Varshann? Spends 90 % of his screentime as a kid and then sacrificed his adult form so his sister could reincarnate.
Yes, in the occassional side quest there might pop up a Sidurgu or whats-his-face that was all about the serpent of Ronka, but even then those are rare. Hell, even female roegadyn have better representation in the main story. Sure, Moenbryda didn't get to live more than a patch and Merlwyb is forever locked to the sidequests, BUT Moenbryda did so much in what little screentime she had and Merlwyb is a charismatic leader who commands a lot of respect from other characters. Compare that to Magnai being reduced to comic relief who don't even have any voice lines after Stomblood. JUSTICE FOR MALE AU RA!
Also, I'm not sure if this counts as a good or bad stereotype but... one stereotype I often hear about female au ra is that they are all played by transwomen due to their short stature and dainty animations. I didn't subscribe to this stereotype until I actually ended up in an fc which had four transgirls in it, all of whom played female au ra. Amusingly enough, the one married cis woman with kids played male hrothgar.
I meet a lot of trans femras too but I also meet just as many trans fembuns I think it's all personal experience
I play a female Flatlander. She actually has a rather distinctive appearance; nobody else I've seen looks like her, which is nice in a game where you don't have a whole lot of appearance options and so many people choose the same ones. I also find her animations charming, like her girly run and her sidesaddle riding.
I quite literally chose Male AuRa (while also not knowing the community race stereotypes, except immediately having a gut feeling upon seeing Mi'qote and quickly assuming that Mi'qote might be even more basic and common than Hyur) as my first choice and i literally want him to look like a Bow & Arrow dude who's tired by the dull-ness of his weapon and has been very looking forward to going into Ishgard to try out this mysterious thing called a firearm. Ever since then, he grew from a geek to a dedicated nerd learning and discovering not only firearms but just anything new about the world in general.
Tl;dr = i made an AuRa with an "excitable little geek kid at heart" image in mind. I think i did good.

I play a male Au Ra. I hate the stereotype so much and it's very uncomfortable. Especially being a victim myself. I just want to be a tall dragon man with small waist and glowing eyes, not be accused of the very thing I'm still working through a decade later. My love for my character has stopped me from fanta-ing. Thankfully I havent gotten any of the harassments, but I am scared for it to happen...
If it's any sort of consolation/help, I've been playing a male Au Ra from my start (just over 5 years now) and nobody, ever, has brought up this stupid stereotype in game to me. Not once. It's a awful joke that gets perpetuated by a small handful of terminally online players in their own little circles.
If that's the character that makes you happy then keep playing them.

I play a femelezen. Honestly, when I started on the free trial (like a week before Shadowbringers dropped), free trial players could only choose Hyur, Elezen, or Lalafell. Miq’ote and Roegadyn required buying ARR (you could buy ARR separately at the time) and Au Ra required Heavensward (which you could download for free if you owned ARR). And as we know, Hroth and Viera required owning Shadowbringers.
It’s thought, though, that most Hyur players mostly are trying to make their characters look as close to how they look in real life.

Fem Elezen here. It is really fun to join into a raid or a trial and everyone is either a miqo'te or a aura. Never had to use a Fantasia, because there are so view other Elezen that you're character stays unique through your game experience.
Female Elezen player here - same character since 2.0 without using a fantasia. I like having that Unicorn status if you will. Though the stereotype of being reserved, helpful and not necessarily outspoken hits true at least for me.
I have been all the races before finally settling on Elezen
I Play a Highlander now mostly because they seem to be the only race with good Beard options. I Started with a Xela Au Ra and got tired of "Edge Lord" and such comments. The stereotype I learned from this video just makes me all the more bummed as I'd love to play an Au Ra again.

I'm an Elezen player and I'm sweating profusely at my 100+ page text file documenting my WoL's life throughout the game 😭 The amount of times I've had multiple wiki pages and discussion threads open for something mundane like traditional Gridanian cuisine is significant LMAO so I can't deny the stereotype!
I play a male Lala but dress it up in either cute more feminine clothes or cursed funny glams and i love the fact that if you see another lala you can go up to them and start emoting and then the other will also emote and then more lalas will join or if you see a group of lalas and go join them you become automatically accepted like you are all long time friends :D

Plus plus most of us give gifts to each other and random people :D
The lalafell community is the best part of being one. We get our own hangout area at big events.

I've been a Femroe since day one (almost) i tower over 99% of the playerbase and could not be happier
I don't interact with strangers in game out of fear that they believe the male au'ra stereotype and say something horrible
I only do so when i don't have a choice but to make a party finder for something, and if i'm with a friend who can vouch for me
Being accused of horrible things is my biggest fear, enough to drive me to serious anxiety
I never knew male Au Ras have that stereotype. I'm a male Au Ra and thankfully I didn't have anyone assume such vile things about me for playing this race.
Throughout the years of playing lalafell i have never encountered hate towards my character not even in dungeons
I've had people try to punt my lala with certain emotes that kinda kick me.. both in DF and PF
I think people who have hate for Lala's just because of the stature is ridiculous. People seem to forget they are adults and there is like maybe 2 or 3 instances of lalas being children... and people seem to forget that dwarfism literally exists
I play a male Au Ra and I wanted say, "Thank you." I know there are some negative stereotypes about Male Ra, specifically Xaela (which I play), but a lot of us are edgelords and/or into dragons/being dragons. This was a nice refreshing take on the races and I'm all for it. Looking forward to seeing more of your content. :)

The stereotype about male AuRa is sad tbh. Some of the coolest people I know play one. I play a few different characters (main is a catgirl) and there's something to love about all of them.

Hadn't heard about those stereotypes for male au ra, only the ones about male xaelas being Edge Lords. I went through several characters over my years playing, but recently stepped into the life and times of a male xaela and i love him very much. he is my sweet sunshine WoL boy.
As a former Fantasia addict I've played as pretty much every race and gender, ultimately ended up on Fem Elezen. I just love how elegant and proper they are. (And how theres so few, so i feel special)
I play Hrothgar and keep a simple life crafting and living my best cottage core life in the empyreum. I made him the smallest a hroth can be and that delights me so much
I used to play as a male au ra however the call of the best race called to me....Male Elezen and I've never regretted my choice. I've attempted to look at other races but nothing just feels the same the height on elezen is perfect, I love the ears on them.
Im a male lala player, I fought the fantasia addiction for a long time, and recovered a year ago, i couldnt get over how bad i think some glams that i enjoy look on male characters, especially the big goofy micky mouse shoes and weird run animations. The glam on lalafells being small actually open up for me to wear a lot of it as most outfits if not all work on them. Also the community for lalafells are super supportive of each other. Its like a mob. And we demand shins!
You should always assume that the Hrothgar player in front of you is suspiciously wealthy.

People chose their irl opposite to live the fantasy a scunny little boy would go for a cool looking aura male but wholesome muscle dadys like us would prefer lalafells.

Honestly as a male midlander, who got burnt out of playing most of the other races (mostly did female and male vieras) I personally find that being *HUMAN GUY* is just so relaxing. I can just be me without caring about how badass my character looks or any of the reasons I’d play a female character as a guy (let’s just say that I have my moments of being down cataclysmic, but no one to be down bad for).

i started playing as male au ra because "cool dragon person" i ended up eventually fantasia-ing to hroth because they just fit me better as a person, i would've gone male roe to begin with if they weren't so... square looking, but also wanted a big character so in HW when i started au ra was my best choice but they always seemed to have a too... cultured demeanor? for my personal attitudes, i love my fluffy hroth that can slouch in seats and sit comfortably

When I originally made my character he was a catboy, and I've kept it ever since because it's become my mental image of my WoL. I always fantasia back to him! Despite how tempting the bunboys were I just love my cat. Also both the catboys and bunboys body proportions work well with a LOT of outfits (Viera headstuff aside)!! So I like that they're flexible fashion-wise. Also almost forgot.... the tail! I love the miqo'te tail animations! It adds so much personality
Main a Female Roe, like since the beginning. The animations are less over the top, I get the "step on me" sometimes but I'm not into that, maybe if you're a good boy/girl you get a head pat.

I started playing this month. I'm playing tank, so naturally I went male roe with sliders all the way up. So when you said male roe is 'simple' I couldn't help but nod!
I was doubting between a male Au Ra or a female Hyur. The first was because I like dragons and playing as a strong guy, and the second to recreate a original character from a story I'm writting. Since that oc fights with a spear because I like dragoons, I decided to create the female hyur and be a Dragoon main.
I must say I'm happy with the choice. And I like playing as a human in a fantasy game, there are so many other races that humans are not common xd. And she shares some resemblance to me, so that helps too.
Female Veena Viera here, made her because i have my own fantasy world created and it happens to have bunny people in it. She happens to be one of them, so it made sense. The character started as a Hyur, then an Elezen, and then Viera got announced and it was perfect so i had to.
This is also the first time I've ever heard of this negative stereotype about the Au Ra. That's sad :(
I started playing as a Fem Viera but early Heavensward I was missing out on hats and head gear so i used my free fanta to change to Fem Miqo. I enjoyed being a chaotic cat all the way through till Endwalker patches when i became a fanta addict for a little before landing back on Viera with a design I was much happier with and also had a better grasp of glams and how to work around the lack hats i could use.
Since Viera got the Gyr Abanian Plates I've found no reason for using anything that'd cover it up so I'm really happy now. Also the thing about helping friends out is true, I'm normally more then happy in helping my friends out in game with running anything they're needing to do.
Yeah... the missing hats is a problem - changed my Viera back to a Hyur just to be able to wear Amons big Crystal Tower Hat for a costume party... :D

Im a male viera former male au ra. I was an au ra from the end of arr to the end of shadowbrigers and really enjoyed it but felt like a change. I went cat boy for a very brief moment before bun boys came and I really just vibe with bun boy more than anything else now being a beautiful but manly rabbit man. I designed him after the old androgynous art of the FF protagonists.

Male Au'Ra player here. My name in game in Lucifer Mournstar, Kind of goes with my whole Devil theme. My head glam specifically is Arch Demon horns as well for it. Truth on the Metal thing... IT WASN'T A PHASE THOUGH! Still that way into my mid 30's here!
My main, I play as Viera, and on my Alt, i play as a Lalafell, mainly because imo, i think viera are the most beautiful race and i love looking good where it gives me s confidence boost to be a performer and a flirt at the same time, where as my lala, i like to act like an a adorable gremlin that will unleash chaos on the ffxiv raids lol. Plus its a nice way to mix up from 1 day im viera and next day an a adorable little witch. Plus clothes really DOES matter how it looks, where on viera, the cute look doesnt work unlike my lala, it looks great on her, but i would NEVER put sexy clothes on her, dont. LEWED. The. Lalafell. PERIOD!
I'm one of the few female elezen that didn't switch to Viera when it came out. It's nice to be a little less common and not so overly sexualized like most of the other female races.
I started in 2.0 where there was no Au Ra or Viera. I was coming from playing TERA and was an Elin, so Lala was out (they also didn't appeal to me). The other races didn't really appeal to me either, save for one; since I'm a big weeb, I rolled a cat. Even used the proper naming scheme for it.
In those 10 years, I think I've changed a couple things with my character, and all very minor things. I'm aware it's basic, and that I'm part of a 90%, but I'm happy with it so 👍
Hyur -- you're more concerned with your character looking good to you than coming off as unique or special to other people... Essentially also true for Miqote and Vierra players, if we're being honest.

I started as a cat boy, but deleted him halfway through ARR because I couldn't find a good story for him. (Dumb, I know)
So i made a new character, my mid hyur and I loved him to pieces! I played for YEARS as a male mid Hyur, until we joked in our FC about becoming Lalafells. One fantasia later, i was a cute but menacing Lalafell who would cut your ankles if needed.
After some weeks, we again, as a FC decided to change, this time into Miqo'te. I don't know why, but I felt home, all of the sudden. It was like my very first character called out for me xD
I will never change back, this MIqo'te boy will stay forever!
As a male WAR Xaela Aura, i prefer to be this race because amongst alot of mmos, its the most unique to me if Aura wasnt a choice i would play hrothgar, but im a proud, unga bunga aura. That and the lore/background for the aura race is very interesting to me. the stereotypes do get to me sometimes, but im a awesome void dragon person with a huge axe. I dont care about what you think. Im going let my actions show how good i am.
Fem Highlander player here. Always dressing for the job, at most showing arms, collar, neck and some thigh...and she's been like she is since day 1 of playing starting in 2019. Just some hair and makeup changes over time but she'll never taste Fantasia.

I've been playing the game for less than 2 weeks and I didn't know that the Au Ra had the "joke" of a groomer stereotype, I made an Au Ra because I saw them as a good choice between Human (not so basic) and cat boy (not so into in this world), I also chose them because I like how edgy and chivalrous I look, that is, how they look.
Curious fact that happened to me yesterday as Au Ra and I think that several people like Au Ra, I was finishing a dungeon, I saw in the cinematic that someone had a swimsuit and I made the comment "it looks like someone came from the beach ""good armor for the fight btw", she who was an Au ra wrote to me "you can also look good", I replied "I see it complicated, I don't have enough Gil", she answers me "don't worry, when we finish the dungeon we met in Gridonia Siren and I gave you a swimsuit", I told her "ok no problem, see you there", I went there and she was with her friend, a cat girl, buut after trying to exchange as well as trade or By email we saw that the Free Trials cannot make exchanges, she tells me "I couldn't make you look good" "when you buy the starter pack let me know" "There is a swimsuit with your name on it, it will look gorgeous on you", I told her "of course, next month I will probably buy it, first I want to see the other 2 expansions first", she added me as friends, I thanked her for the attempt, she blew me flying kisses, we said goodbye and each one continued on their way
I am a female player who plays as a male Elezen, idk why, they're just so freaking cool, especially as a Dragoon. I have a female hyur and I like playing with her, but I usually play more with the elezen.

i play a keeper of the moon male miqo’te! i think we’re slightly rarer than our seeker of the sun counterparts. i *was* almost a duskwight, elezen are great! although the happy ear wiggles won me over lol. i like to think im not the most basic of catboys, since my wol has facepaint and the like for keeper lore accuracy, but hey you’re right. miqos may be basic but theyre still good! :]
I went with Male Au Ra because I wanted to characterize "what would Ridley (Metroid) look like if he had a human-like body?" Turns out, I feel like I have managed to make him a madman of meme fashions -- such as Double Enkidu, Wilford Warfstache, Launchpad McQuack, and "Dave" the pink-helmet Thug from DQ11. He's also a madman about various other things, pulling references that nobody in-game could possibly ever get. And the cherry on top? That him and Venat are in a moebian loop because of [Spoilers]
Ridley seeing Samus as Venat, and setting her on the path that ultimately leads her towards that fate. Meanwhile, after the battle against Hydaelyn, Ridley just generally exists until he...runs into Samus and kicks off the loop all over again.
As a male Au Ra player, this is the first I'm hearing about that stereotype, I thought the joke was we were just edgy, lol

My female Roe has been called Mommy once in my entire time playing. I ofc obliged and gave them uppies.
As a femroe player since the first time I played this game it’s actually rare for people to call my character “mommy”, maybe just one person out of two years of playing. Perhaps it has something to do with the server too because where I play femroes are abundant so maybe people are kinda used to seeing femroes around.
As for the male au ra stereotype, I only learned about it recently. Have an unfortunate incident where I complimented a female healer’s glam as a male au ra (was playing on my sister’s account) and she was yelling at me for making her character look like a creep. I love glams so I often compliment people who are super creative with it 😭😭😭
I had no idea about any bad vibe about male Au Ra but frankly, I can't care less because I don't do RP, and I group only for roulette
