    Simon, I really like what you were doing in your first segment. And what you said about spontaneity is so true. It would be boring if all our pots came out the same.

    Thank you, Simon, for your wonderful videos! I'm new to pottery, and have been using your tips and instruction in my wheel throwing class. I'm making great progress, with your direction! Going to try to double-dip glaze today (wish me luck!). Off too class to do more practicing! :)

    Very well done. I really like the process. Would it be possible for you to publish a video of the finished product?

    dear Simon, in recent years, as I kept ageing 1y per year, I learned the hard way to not trust always my memory...Anyway as a chemist I use to keep trace of my experiments in a log book, like you, I suppose. BTW do you remember where you stored it? :-)

    Can you use any slip on any clay? I'm always afraid they'll flake off. I have a white stone slip that is not a true porcelain. Should that work on any greenware? And someone once told me that you have to apply the slip before the piece is leather hard in order for it to stick. But that's not what you did. I guess what I want to know is, what is the formula for getting any slip to stick to any different type of clay (how wet/dry does the piece need to be? what sorts of slip are kosher with what sorts of various clay? etc.)

      As long as it's still leather hard it's should stay..

      What do you mean by “kosher”?

      Paula in goyisher parlance it means approved, suitable, ok to put what-with-what; not related to kashrut laws really

      I think with slip I would start with a certain type of clay then have a slip made with a certain formula. Make your slip maybe from the same clay body.

    Can you do a slip on bisque? i'm completely green when it comes to slips.
    edit: About perfect pots, i think its evolution of potter, when i started i struggled so hard to make ideal pots, used rigid ribs so they would be perfect round with perfect proportions, hated when my hand trembled. Now after 5 years of amateur throwing i think pot has to have character. And for me character of things manifests in imperfections.

    oops ! I FORGOT to mention that this comment was referring to the composition of the slip. It would be great if you find it back in your memory or in your log book ;-). Thanks

    Hi Simon
    many thanks for your demo
    can you explain to a starting potter..what are you doing to move the wax out of the pots before your put them in the kiln?
    thanks again

    • @sleachpots
      @sleachpots  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Wax ? wax burns out in a firing ..but this here is white slip.

    • @Cate7451
      @Cate7451 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It does look like wax though. So this is something to do instead of glazing. I think that he is high firing. As a beginner potter it is a good idea as well to master something before always trying something new. But you don't always want to do what others are doing. This is very beautiful.
