Just a brief little glance at some of the recurring voice actors in Persona and Shin Megami Tensei. While I'm not a huge voice acting nut, I am a big fan of Megami Tensei. I will mainly be covering people who have been in Megaten game's that I've played, as I don't feel comfortable taking about any SMT games I haven't played yet. After being into the Megami Tensei franchise for a few years at this point, it's natural that I've started to recognize some of the returning voice talent over time. In this video, I list off Persona and SMT roles that I recognize and any roles I may know from any non- Persona or non- SMT related games.

yukari and kawakami being the same english VA is hilarious to me because the voice actor really doesn't try to mask it and if it weren't for P4 ultimax giving yukari a canon future, i could absolutely imagine her growing up to be a depressed high school teacher

She's also Katherine in that game and she has the exact same voice, still hitting the hard SSS's and all haha

Should I mention that one game
Yuri Lowenthal to me is like Cam Clarke: he only ever does one voice but you can still tell his characters apart by how he emotes.
Especially in Persona Q where he has to make Yosuke and the P3 MC distinct. His P3MC voice sounds a lot more... well, tired.
@@BigKlingy I remember him mentioning in an interview that he felt that the ability to vary your emotions matters more than the ability to do radically different voices. You definitely see it in his output where at most he might pitch his voice up or down an octave or two but it's really the acting that seals the deal. Vieri from Assassin's Creed 2 uses the Ben Tennyson voice but you'll never mistake the two for each other.
That's so accurate. I originally knew him as Sun Ce from the Dynasty Warriors games, and while I immediately knew it was him in Persona, I could easily tell which character I was listening to in each game
The thing is he can have different voices too. It's just that most of the voices hes known for are very subtly different.

Persona and Danganronpa have a lot of shared VA’s. For example, Johnny Yong Bosch, the voice of Yu and Adachi, also voices Hajime Hinata from Danganronpa 2.

Talking about other Spike games: the entire Virtue's last reward cast is formed by persona 3 and 4 voices (every time I hear Dio talking I hear "Where have you been?"), also in the sequel a character that was voiced by Troy Baker was recasted as Matthew Mercer (they didn't call him "Low-budget Baker" for no reason after all). In AI the somnium files, Boss is voiced by Allegra Clark, she also voiced Mitsuru in persona 3 reload. In rain code there is a character voiced by Aleks Le, the reload's protagonist voice, while another one I'm pretty sure has Haru's voice (I'm only at the first chapter, the other voices that I recognized are from danganronpa).
Junpei is probably my favorite character in the series and I think the thing that plays a big part in that is just how much emotion Vic mignoga put into the characters voice, I feel like he really nailed what the character is about with his performance.

Another fun fact about the Persona 4 cast is that they'd go on to cast for new voices in the Silent Hill HD Collection. Amanda Winn Lee would play Heather Mason and Troy Baker would voice James Sunderland. Other VA's, such as Bailey, Lowenthal and O'Brian, would also go on to voice the major characters and minor roles in the remaster
Also to add, Matt Mercer (who voiced Kanji in the spin-offs) also plays Walter from Shin Megami Tensei IV!

I always found that really conflicting for me because I grew to love and recognise most of the actors through their persona performances. The problem being that those same voice actors go on to ruin all the dubs for the silent hill collection. It's genuinely sad how something as unique as silent hill just got the generic anime dub treatment

You mentioned Kanji voiced by Matthew Mercer. He also voiced Walter from SMT IV and Yusuke Kitagawa from Persona 5. Speaking of Yusuke, in the Japanese dub, he's voiced by Tomokazu Sugita, who also voices Daisuke Nagase from Persona 4, Charlotte Katakuri from One Piece, Raidou Kuzunoha from Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers 3DS and Yakumo Shohei from SMT V.
Matt Mercer is also the Dungeon Master in the D&D webseries, Critical Role, and the voice of Trafalgar Law, in One Piece.
also Lucifer in SMT IV. Plot reasons for that one, but I find it amusing how Kanji and a version of the devil have the same VA

It's crazy how much Yuri Lowenthal has shown up in media I would play and grew up with.
Great video, it's always fun to hear a sometimes overlooked part of the SMT/Persona series be discussed. I'm also holding back the embarrassing urge to also discuss how a lot of VAs from Atlus games are also in Genshin Impact now, especially Yuri Lowenthal, Keith Silverstein, Erica Harlacher-Stone, etc. (Not to mention Yuri Lowenthal sounds very different as Dainslief compared to Yosuke from p4). Still, to this day my favorite VA performance within the Persona franchise is Troy Baker as Kanji in p4.

In the Japanese dub of p5 there are many famous voice actors like joker is lelouch lamperouge from code geass, yusuke is gintoki from gintama, Morgana is pikachu, Ryuji is Light Yagami from death note and Makoto is Misaka Mikoto from toaru kagaku no railgun, while in p4 rise is Kagura from gintama and also Haruka from the like a dragon series

Hearing Char Aznable's voice from Shido's mouth made my inner mecha fan smile, especially since the casting easter egg was kept in English.
I think that Smash Bros' spirit board for Joker uses the Voice Actors multipe roles to build the fights. Morgana was Pikachu because the japanese voice actor are the same. and Yusuke's Voice actor is Matthew Mercer, who also voices Chrom. So for Yusuke, you fight chrom. I could be wrong tho
Also Yusuke do also share the same voice actor as Raidou Kuzunoha and Shohei Yakumo funnily enough while Sugita also was the presenting the demons in the daily demon showcase of SMT V

I follow VAs and can clearly recognize them, but here's some unmentioned here: Erica Lindbeck played Futaba Sakura in P5, but she also played Sahori in SMTV, the late Billy Kametz did both the voices of Maruki in Persona 5 Royal and Raidou Kuzunoha in SMT3 Nocturne HD Remaster. Kyle Hebert plays Mitsuo Kubo in Persona 4 while he also played Madarame in Persona 5. Derek Stephen Prince did the voice of Revolver Jesus/Takuya in P3 and one of the gas station managers in P4. Ashly Burch played Rei in Persona Q while she took the role of Rise in P4 Dancing All Night. Keith Silverstein voiced Zen in PQ, and also played Tatsuya in the re-release of Persona 2 Innocent Sin. Lastly, there's Sarah Anne Williams who voiced one of the social links in P5 Chihaya, she also voices many demons in the MegaTen franchise including it's mascot Jack Frost, hee ho and recurring demon Alice.
Silverstein also voices Shido in p5 iirc
I always love interactions between characters voiced by Johnny and Yuri.
If you want an example of Johnny's vocal and emotional range in voice acting look up scenes from the English dub of Code Geass with Lelouch. He can range from a bored and uninspired high schooler, a cunning and theatrically dramatic vigilante, becoming hysterical from personal world-shattering truths, becoming enraged or panicked when his plans start to fall apart, merciless and manipulative, and so much more.
In Persona 4, he sells the unassuming sidekick to Yu's uncle as well as the true personality of Adachi being a man truly insane yet thinks he is completely in the right and justified.
With Yuri, um, well, to make a long story short, it seems like whenever a director gives him an expected performance he provides a 11/10 output.
In summary, if either of these guys voices a character in a game, you definitely won't be bored with their performances.
You should've seen my face when I found out the man behind Illidan Stormrage was Akihiko, I flipped.
I didn't know Xander Mobus voiced Dagda in SMT4A, neat. The only other Atlus role I knew him for was Stocke in Radiant Historia Perfect Chronology, that was a really cool role to hear him in.

Fun fact, as he briefly mentions here, most of the new voice cast of the Sonic series that replaced the 4kids actors, with a few exceptations like bringing in a couple of voice actors known for doing western video games and western animations and keeping one 4kids actor in, the rest of the replacement actors are actually the Persona English voice actors, as if you were to see Clement's LP of Sonic Generations, the parts where he talks about the new voice actors, he has this common theme of "If you're familiar with the Persona series, you might know this actor for this character they've done", he also mentions Troy Baker and Laura Bailey, which he didn't use the Persona reference for then, instead, he used "They're in every game you can think of" for them, which he's right about, and there's a few of them he didn't even get into that have also been in the Persona series, like, when doing Lost World, he mentions Liam O'Brian because he was the voice of Zazz in it and later Infinite in Sonic Forces, but he didn't even do the Persona reference with that. Same thing goes with the characters who got replacement voices in Sonic Forces and Team Sonic Racing, he didn't even get into them either, which some, I do get because yeah, at first, I didn't know they even got replacement voices because they sounded exactly the same as before except for Silver, but still, my point stands.
Xander also voice Kubo in NEO:TWEWY it’s crazy how much range he has
When I first heard Kubo was Xander Mobus I was like "WHAT?!" Robbie Daymond said in an interview that the best compliment you can give a voice actor is "I didn't know that was you!"
(Case in point: Jamieson Price, Sojiro's VA, broke his typecasting so much with Virion in Fire Emblem Awakening that nobody knew it was him for YEARS)

I appreciate that in P3 Reload, they mostly used voice actors we haven't heard before in Atlus games for the main cast, and paid homage to the old cast by including them as side characters.

Except in the first trailer, where she was Christina Vee. They must have decided to change VAs during production. I actually kinda wish they kept Christina Vee, as Edelgard would've been significantly playing against type for her, while Tara Platt just uses the exact same voice she uses for Mitsuru, Miriel and most people she voices. (Despite Elizabeth proving she can do more)

Its always so fun to see how varied so many va's are! On one end you get guys like yuri lowenthal who mostly sound the same and karen strassman who can do nearly every range and personality, yet both of them are instantly recognizable 😄
Here's a fun one (English VA Btw) Narukami has the same voice actor as adachi, who also voices yagura the 3 tails mizukage from naruto who also voices sasori the akatsuki member from naruto. Whew that was alot (Edit I forgot to also mention Zero from the Mega man X games whoops)

I don't follow any VA's, but I do enjoy it when I can recognize certain VA's. A lot of them I'll relate to their role in Persona too. Makoto especially, since she also plays Chloe in Pokemon Journeys, Trix and Alya's younger sisters in Miraculous, and Sarada in Boruto. Theo's VA also plays Adrien in Miraculous, and Kagura in Boruto, so he's basically just the cinnamon roll character in my ears now. On the opposite end of the spectrum, Shido's VA also plays Profesor Tomoe from Sailor Moon, Gabriel/Hawk Moth from Miraculous, and Jigen in Boruto, which is just all the worst fathers in animation, so he fits Shido being Akechi's deadbeat dad.

Almost all of the voice actors of Persona are incredible. But 5 probably has the best.
My favorites are Johnny Yong Bosch, Yuri Lowenthal, Michelle Ruff, Laura Bailey, Keith Silverstein, Max Mittleman and Erica Lindbeck and many more.

English dubbing reusing so many of the same voice actors is the reason I only played P3 in English, I started P4 and was immediately recognizing so many voices. It wasn't great for my immersion, so I switched to the Japanese dub and stuck with Japanese for P5 as well. I am sure the English dubs of both games are fine but I'd rather not hear the same voice actors over and over. I am sure the same happens in the Japanese dub but I don't speak Japanese so it's much harder to recognize them :P the only one I managed to identify was Ryuji/Okabe Rintaro
Ngl I'm waiting for the day I can check off the full bingo card of Critical Role VAs (and some of their guest stars) doing SMT/Persona roles

Speaking of robots, did you know that Karen Strassman also voiced Breez from LEGO Hero Factory: Invasion From Below, who is also a robot!? It took me 9 years for me to figure it out.
Karen Strassmen is also the voice of many Fire Emblem Characters such as Hana from Fates or Anna since Awakening til Three Houses.

To anyone who plays League of Legends (condolences) Persona 5 has a ridiculous amount of voice acting crossover: Joker/Sett, Morgana/Yuumi (both talking cats lol), Sojiro/Garen, Makoto/Irelia, Yusuke/Gangplank, Futaba/Taliyah/Zoe, Kasumi/Ahri, Caroline/Justine/Lux, Akechi/Kayn, Chihaya/Jinx, Igor(yaldabaoth)/Skarner, and Shido is Shen. I just kept recongizing voices and fell down this rabbit hole, there are so many of them lmao
Yamato, flynn, Fumi, shinji, chie, akihiko, Honda, Yusuke and naoya’s Va are definitely my favourite for the English ones. For the Japanese ones Jimenez, zenlilin and Yamato again.
Liam'O Brien..... honnestly is such a good voice actor, so many memorable roles Akihiko, Gaara in Naruto, Asura in Asura's Wrath, Kain Highwind, Lezard Valeth is Valkyrie Profile Silmeria (where he delivers hands down the most amazing Evil Laugh ever).....etc.... but my personnal favorite has to be Grimoire Weiss from Nier he absolutly kills it in Grimoire Weiss, and speaking of Nier Laura Bailey plays Kaine and OH boy she sounds like she had a ton of fun dubbing such Foul Mouthed character, the argument between her and Weiss are just some of the funniest lines I ever heards in a video game.

I’m late to the party, but Michelle stuff (Yukari’s VA), seemingly played the role of a woman in a hentai called “Sextra Credit.” It’s very hard to find a source on this, but the voices between the girl and Yukari are too similar for it to be a coincidence.
Shinjiro and Hope sharing same Japanese VA. Same goes for Mondo Owada from Danganronpa 1

I know this is off topic but who else thought that Akira or Ren the protagonist of Persona 5 persona is Lupin so he is a thief and Goro Akechi is the detective. There's a book where Lupin and Sherlock Holmes fought ending in Holmes as the victor. Akechi is a detective but kills people so.... I came up with the idea that he resembles Sherlock Holmes arch enemy William James Moriarty. So instead of Lupin vs Sherlock. It's Lupin king of theives vs Moriarty the lord of crimes.
What's very funny and weird to me as a Final Fantasy and Persona fan, is alot of Persona voice actors do FF Characters hggcvvgh Most notable for me IS in Dissidia NT HGFGH
