One little known fact. The sequence at the end when you hear Mitch doing the guitar but see the stars was intended as a shout out to Queen lead guitarist Brian May who also happens to have an PhD in Astrophysics (hence the stars).
The couch was both a shout back to the past and a metaphor. Many of the earliest PTX videos were live one-shot videos filmed with the five of them sitting on a couch in Scott and Mitch's apartment (not this couch, but close enough). The trip down the road signified their constant touring (and the long road to success) and the end signified that after every tour, they returned home to where they started. The entire video was shot outdoors, at night, on a closed street somewhere in the general vicinity of LA (somebody else may have more specific information). As it was filmed at night, in March, it was a bit nippy out, so you could see the breath of some of the members of the group. The video literally took all night to shoot, and it wasn't filmed in the sequence of the final product. The behind the scenes video has a bit more, including a brief clip when Kevin fell off of the moving couch. This video was released on April 7, 2017 (the day they released "PTX: Volume IV") and it was the last video released before Avi announced that he was leaving the group at the end of the tour. (He made one more video with the group --"Can't Help Falling in Love"--and the other four members released a video without him just before he left ("Dancing On My Own"). His last day with the group was September 3, 2017, at the conclusion of their 2017 spring/summer tour. When they were new on the scene, an interviewer asked them if there were any songs that the group wouldn't cover. Either Avi or Scott immediately said "Bohemian Rhapsody". They were genuinely anxious about touching this song, because there are so many people who hold very strong feelings to the original version of this song. They obviously eventually overcame their concerns, and produced a version that is faithful (and respectful) to the original without being a direct copy. Having Mitch sing the more introspective moments of the song, and Scott belting out the confrontational, "in-your-face" portion worked well, too; while either one could have done both parts, they maximized the impact (and tacitly paid respect to Freddie Mercury, who pulled off the whole thing on his own).
I love PTX fun fact the guy at the bottom on the right is Avi Kaplan he’s from my hometown Visalia and my 8th grade PE teacher is his father so we would hear all about it and got to meet him .
Yes they are outside and the couch is moving, they have a video for behind the scenes on how they put this together. It's interesting to see. When they do this live Mitch doesn't use the bull horn to do the guitar.
The couch was on wheels and operated by remote control. It was filmed on a closed off a street one night in February 2017 (somewhere in California), so that's why you see their breath. There is a behind the scenes video if you want to see more.
I’ve only recently discovered PENTATONIX (I know - I promise I didn’t just crawl out from under a rock). I am obsessed with them now. However, Billy, I’ve been watching your reactions for awhile now. This by far is my favorite of your reactions, that I’ve seen. I was having a bad day. You just made me laugh. THANK YOU 🙏
Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody is fantastic ! Check out the "How it was Made, PTX Bohemian Rhapsody, to get the details on how the couch moves, etc. Very cool !
They're outside, if you look closely you can see a headlight or two in the background to the right of their backs. There is a video of the making of this.
Scott, Kirstie, and Mitch were like 19 when Pentatonix started so you would need to go way back to when they were on the sing off (singing competition)
Mitch is using a megaphone as a prop ONLY .. he can do the same sound live on stage without one. Enjoy! BTW, yes they are outside .. so if you can watch their behind the scenes and you will see how cold they are and yes, how the couch moves (which they worked hard on it as the couch didn't respond as good as they wanted. Kevin even falls on the ground and Mitch is freezing). th-cam.com/video/xELVHG6hYxk/w-d-xo.html
I think this was filmed in a warehouse of some kind and having worked one the can get quite chilly with the landing docks being opened and unloaded and more stuff being shipped out
You don't seem like you are aware of the original by Queen.. you really should watch it, then watch PTX again to fully appreciate this.. the megaphone was only a prop when he did the guitar solo (not used in live performances but sounds the same..).. Freddie Mercury wrote this classic rock opera ..1979.. they have nailed it!
Are you using OBS? It looks like you are but the audio is always off in your videos, it's like you didn't synch it up properly in editing. But if you're using OBS there's no need for synching, I'm confused.
Your audio is very very rarely actually synced with the video on screen. I don’t understand why you can’t just trim the smallest bit of video so it snaps and meets the correct timing of the audio

I didn’t know that. Thank you. That makes perfect sense!!! Awesome

Aaand it just clicks: "let him goooo! We will not let you go.. LET HIM GOOO" prolly just coincidence, but you know, da feels 😁
This was from their 2017 album. I don’t understand how it wasn’t nominated for a Grammy.
Same. It baffles me how they didn't win a Grammy for this!!
Yes 2017 when this was they they've been together for a long time and they started a group in 2011
I love PTX fun fact the guy at the bottom on the right is Avi Kaplan he’s from my hometown Visalia and my 8th grade PE teacher is his father so we would hear all about it and got to meet him .
Who needs a guitar when you have Mitch and a megaphone! 📢
Mitch has an amazing set of pipes for how high he can go wow.
Yes they are outside and the couch is moving, they have a video for behind the scenes on how they put this together. It's interesting to see. When they do this live Mitch doesn't use the bull horn to do the guitar.
The moving couch, LOL! You are so entertaining!

This cover was released on TH-cam on April 7, 2017, just 6 months before Avi's departure.
It still amazing to listen to Kevin’s beatboxing
Love this reaction
I think this was filmed in a warehouse of some kind and having worked one the can get quite chilly with the landing docks being opened and unloaded and more stuff being shipped out

I love Pentatonics.....but....they should have left this song alone
🤣🤣why?
First of all, you spelled their name wrong.
Second, they did a great job on this.
Why?? Seriously... WHY????!!!!
A member of Queen saw this and posted it on his social media with the caption "enjoy". So I think they did an amazing job with it.
