I love taking Leena around from beginning to end. I wish Chrono Cross explored her relationship with Serge a bit more. The possibility of her developing feelings for an alternate universe version of the childhood friend she never had -- and an innate competitiveness and jealousy she'd subsequently feel against Home Universe's Leena -- would have been interesting topics to explore.
@@awesomecommenter Leena, mostly. With the 6 dragons, you generally want a level 8 summon to obliterate 3 of the 6 dragon types, then rely on the red X Strike to deal with the blue dragon type. Someone like Kid, who is Red, is just redundant to X Strike.

When you are Lynx, Karsh and Fargo would be your friend. I mean if you want a subtitiue for Glenn when you are not recruited or you are Lynx? Karsh is one hell of a physical damage dealer.
Great video! My favorite character is Radius. I know he's not the best, but I really like mentor characters, and playing with mid-tiers is usually more fun for me.

@@kaizoku8087 I mean there was very little character development other than the odd speech patterns they used. They felt underwhelming compared with the Chrono Trigger cast. That shouldn't have happened considering the devs could do so much more on the PS1. I think the game was probably rushed or didn't get the budget it deserved.
@@Lennis01 Speech patterns have nothing to do with character development unless if a situation causes them to change it (I.e.,if a character originally begins speaking irregularly/using slang then changed to proper that is ascension/development while the opposite is regression) and is usually used for comedic relief or advancement in plot. Compared? Or in tandem? Cross is another sequel to trigger since the original world,Radical Dreamers,is directly parallel to trigger’s events. Underwhelming? What was underwhelming about them? Everyone had their own purpose,their own story,some ambition even if they didn’t know it in the beginning. They went through their challenges along with Serge and company and relate back to each other and they all contributed in the end. Nothing is underwhelming about that. Rushed? Well,o don’t think a game with 40+ playable characters could be rushed. It’s budget was high from trigger so budgeting has nothing to do with it,just another way to tell a story,which is the whole premise to cross. It doesn’t follow traditional methods or themes which was its entire scope. That is why they decided for the recruitment of Glenn for not helping Kid when you are scared out of your mind from having to save a girl you don’t know well enough who pulls you into breaking into a mansion full of guards throwing stones at you while you hang on cliffs just to get into the god-forsaken mansion of terror!

Miki has one of the best magic in the game. And only red caster. She is at least top tier. And she use gloves who is the best weapons for first playthrough cuz you got one spectre on tower. Just like marci,who is the best blue,there no debate about that,she is better than lenna.
Leena's strength in the game suggests she might have been intended to play a larger role in the story, but for whatever reason the devs chose not to pursue it. Perhaps due to money and time constraints.

@@alfredobelloni3258 I would say it's much more than a fan theory. It makes complete sense. Crono's hair. Marle's eyes. Insanely strong magic. A birth year of 1004, making Crono and Marle around 20 when she's born. Guardia sacked. Miguel a god-tier swordsman who seems to know everything when you meet him. Una looking nothing like Leena. No trace of Marle at all, suggesting she didn't survive Guardia's sacking. (Dalton kills Marle with the Masamune, which causes the weapon to become cursed.) As far as I'm concerned, it's as good as canon since it fits together so well. Likely the only reason this wasn't written into the story was because they wanted EVERYTHING to revolve around Serge, and a storyarc about an exiled princess, even if she wasn't the main character, would have felt too trope. If so, it was a massive missed opportunity. People love the world of Chrono because of its rich ensemble of interesting characters (a bit too many in the case of Cross). Consider a situation where the only way to break the curse on the Masamune is for the right person to forgive the spirits who were forced to commit murder, and who better than the child of the person who died? Also consider that Leena would certainly take pity on child-spirits and would want to protect them from any further harm. What if LEENA was the character who ultimately ends up with the Masamune instead of Serge? Would this undermine Serge's story or complement it? It is shown at the beginning and end of Chrono Cross that Serge and Leena's relationship, if not exactly romantic, is kind of a big deal, so both characters should be people of some importance to the overall mythos. Leena's elevation in the story would also elevate the importance of Crono and Marle's love in Trigger. I could go on and on about this. (Hint: I take these ideas seriously enough that I might be able to influence some creative decisions if the Chrono series gets a proper remake or gets the movie treatment like several other game franchises have.)

Pip is one of my favorite character that I love to use often despite the broken bug that makes his stats completely garbage. But I’ve always played the game with an interest of characters over quality anyways so it never bothered me.
Great video again! Personally like Chrono Cross a lot, but character-wise they could have really gone a bit more quality over quantity (it fits that as shown in the video, a lot of them are also useless in battle...).
I love Riddel and Miki but mostly for their character designs. Although Riddel is a fantastic magic user so she was always my favorite and never left my party. OMG I forgot about Guile... def best boy!
As a kid I never had the heart to leave kid for dead. I wanted Glenn so badly but I couldn’t do it lol. Now I am playing through the “remaster” and now I have no such reservations lol.
I loved this video, though it was a little eye-opening that I probably wasn't playing this game super optimally when I played it for the first time a few years back. Pip, Poshul, Sprigg, Mojo... Not only were those characters I used in my playthrough, but they were some of my personal favorites to use in the game. Heck, Poshul was even in the team I beat the final boss with alongside Radius and Serge. I'm not sure why I was so drawn to such bad characters. Maybe I enjoy a challenge? Maybe I heard they were bad and wanted to prove people wrong? Maybe I just liked how weird some of them were? But I guess it doesn't really matter because this is certainly the kind of game you can still have a lot of fun playing with a sub-optimal team, and it's kind of a testament to how well designed it is that you're able to do so!
I love this game, but they really could've cut half of the roster...So many dumb characters with no bearing on the plot that honestly make this game embarrassing to play sometimes. lol
There is a difference with Serge and Lynx. Lynx final tech hits all foes Serge's hits one. The game is harder in the first playthrough with New Game+ being too easy. That being said Guile not having a meaningful grid until new game plus puts him in mid tier or upper low tier for not being powerful when it counts. As far as Red Innates are concerned Macha is actually the best overall from a stat perspective or at least tied with Miki and Draggy overall. Sprigg should be top tier because getting powerful Dopples like Taurminator, Gurgoyle, and Wight Knight make Garai and Miguel the two hardest bosses easier. Meaning she is powerful when it counts also she starts with Lagoonate which is more powerful than Lynx with Silver Swallow. Spriggan is also the key character needed to perform the Cuscus element trap trick for level 5 and 6 elements like Carnivore, Black Hole, Thunda Storm etc immediately after being in Lynx form. Draggy gets his level 7 tech earlier than most making him awesome besides Harle making him great.

Personally I think they marketed this game wrong. It was advertised as a sequel to Chrono Trigger. I would have preferred going into it as a stand alone game, then have my mind blown towards the end when CT is finally referenced. Guess I can't argue though, I bought it the day it came out because of Chrono Trigger, but it wasn't what I expected and took years for me to finally appreciate it.
I'd put Zappa in the mid tier just for his blacksmith ability. You can access the blacksmith ship anywhere from the world and didn't have to go to towns continuously.

I always love to pick Glenn and Harlee on the party! it’s quite surprising that they’re not just good for their looks but also good for the battleground
I was young and needed the main characters in at all times. So back then it was always who would be 3rd to Serge/Kid/Lynx/Harle and when only one of them was available, Leena comes in with an additional 3rd wheeler. I played it a few times over and the 3rd wheel bounced between Norris, Riddel, Grobyc, Fargo and Razzly.

I honestly don't know why they decided to put Sneff in as a playable character, and then give him all around trash stats, when his character design, goofy as it is, should mean that he'd be at least a good mage character...Lord knows the yellow innate is in need of good magic users.
9:00 did you just call Guile "gwee-low?" its guile, like street fighter, hes mysterious and he has guile, hence his name. Otherwise you graded them exactly how i would have. I hold Fargo in alittle higher esteem..His grid isnt THAT bad, He can steal from enemies and his Invincible skill is prolly the hardest hitting in the game (if used against opposite elem of course) When Harle joins Linx, its never good idea to have 2 black elem characters, IMO Glen is much more useful then Harle. Shes also not a perm character so if you invest in her and grow to love her..she just leaves, meaning you will always have to find a sub for her when she leaves. My perfect team was always: Serge, Leena Glenn, otherwise great vid man!
i disagree completely on the " its never good idea to have 2 black elem characters," and this is why; 1st, Harle rocks, best char in the game, 2nd, having 2 black innate at the same time powers them up.. 2 black innates means the field will stay black... 3rd, black elements are among the best.. now, if you find the game a little boring due to less elemental variety, that makes sense..

Solid list. You should really learn how to pronounce the names though. It’s not Harl that sounds like Carl. It’s Harley…. Like harlequin….. and Guile. Like Guy. Not gweeloh. But that aside. Solid list. One of my all time favorite games and can’t wait to replay it

I always find it interesting how people pronounce some of the character names. I pronounce Serge like 'hair day' so "Sair Gay" Guile "Guy ole" and Harle as "Har lee"
Locking the player out of the ability to recruit Glenn, locking him behind one of the dumbest decisions in the game is plain stupid. Most first time players aren't going to say "ya let's abandon Kid and not save her". I always feel weird picking that option, makes Serge look like an absolute tool. But I must pick it cause Glenn is such a cool character

Amazing game, unless you are person who expected too much.I played Cross first and love it and also really enjoy Trigger However, Serge/Lynx top tier Glen crazy good if you get double swords After that Orhla is really good but meh mag/Guile crazy good element grid late game Most characters after them are pretty balanced and the game is not hard enough to min/max Honorable mentions that are great- Groybyc, Kid,Leena, Fargo,Karsh Anyone else is meh tbh Except Harle but she is not always available Liked and subbed good list. Best end game imo is Serge/Glenn/Orhla but literally its Serge/Glenn and flex tbh Leena may be better than Orhla but you can easily breeze through with out her broken techs. I just like Orhla always a must use imo and hert ide quest is fun
I always end up using Glenn and Riddel as my final party in all my playthrough. Kid was okay at first, but since it takes a long time to get her as a permanent party member, Glenn has been already my go-to guy. Before Riddel, I've been using Marcy or Leena as my mage before Riddel came along.
Haha I know when I played this game when I was younger I DEFINITELY used Pip and Poshul in my team. They were just too cute not to 😂 glad to know they're the two worst characters haha
I would actually place Doc in Mid tier based on his final tech. It literally heals everyone completely and boosts the party’s Attack and Magic. I usually mitigate his ok grid by making him support/debuff.
He has low defense and his attacks are sub par. His specials are his most valuable abilities. End game gearing fixes a lot of problems across all characters.
Karsh is always in my team when he's available, same with Harle and Kid. Honestly with the availability issue so many of these characters have it's no wonder that they need to include so many. Some of them could def be cut though. The entire shit tier could be cut and the game would be better.
I think you should take into account dual and triple techs. Some characters get used only for who they tech with, which gives them a bit more usefulness
That just puts Glenn even higher in God Tier because he has a double tech with Serge. Also it would probably elevate Sneff a bit since he has one with Guile
I have to disagree on some things here. First of all, the game's level up stats follow a certain generic pattern, but differ with each new game you start. Sometimes the RNG can be very beneficial to some characters, and/or very detrimental. I've had Serge (protagonist) with a Magic Defense stat of 7 (yes, base stat), for the majority of the game once. Or Karsh with an amazing Magic stat, while he's supposed to have it much lower. 1) Ranking Janice on the same level as Luccia. I've had Janice in my party from join to end, and while it's true that her magic stat *can* be rather low, in my experience during my many playthroughs of this game, it's been pretty consistently high. Not as high as true mages (Riddel, etc), but certainly higher than Luccia, who has some of the most consistent low stats in the game. Based on stats and consistency alone, I'd take Janice over Luccia any day, though I like both of them as characters. 2) Greco in mid-tier. Physical attacks are important for sure, but overall you'll be using 6 out of 7 points to attack and build up your grid, and then using magic (for those common non-strategic moments) With his extremely low magic stat in general, he'll end up dealing less damage than a character with decent-to-high attack *and* magic. I'd put him in low tier, personally. If you want a physical attacker, characters like Grobyc, Leah and Zoah are far superior. Greco's advantage is that you get him early. 3) Steena in mid-tier, "hard to justify her usage". I've had her in my end game party a lot, and she's amazing in both physical and magical offense. While perhaps not the absolute goddess, she is a welcome addition, despite her low-ish HP. RNG can wreck her sometimes, but she's definitely not as bad as you make her out to be. I'd put her (lower) top tier, myself, as availability isn't enough to place her this low, IMHO. There's still a chunk of the game to go at this point, including some optional content. 4) Karsh having "amazing stats". This is a minor disagreement, in that I agree Karsh is generally amazing overall, though RNG can really mess with him. I've had playthroughs where Karsh had an incredibly low magic stat. Sometimes even lower than Zoah's. Though I've also had playthroughs where Karsh's magic stat was on par with the fairly high magic stat of Serge. Top tier for sure, but potentially not *as* great as you'd want him to be, from playthrough to playthrough. So I wouldn't say he's "never a bad choice for your party". Only when he has atrocious magic stat thanks to RNG is he a worse choice than others. Something to keep in mind if you plan on using him. 5) Guile having an "awesome grid". To clarify, Guile has only a few slots available at lower level tiers, but it fans out into a large number of slots at high tiers. This means that early game, he only has a few spells to cast/consumables to use, far fewer than pretty much anyone else. That said, he's still a generally powerful mage (sturdy, as well), and the lack of slots aren't much of an issue early game, either. WandaIn is a pretty devastating skill, too. But depending on how you prefer to play, the lack of lower level magic slots can be a detriment. While it's amazing to cast lower level spells at such a high magic tier (CurePlus+5 or something), sometimes it's more beneficial to cast it at its intended third tier slot, thus not draining your entire grid for that turn, while the restoration is generally enough with the magic stat he has. Building up 6 tiers with physical attacks, and then casting CurePlus at third tier slot, will keep 3 magic tier levels available, to which the next series of physical attacks add to (up to 9). It's more of a mechanics issue, and depends on whether or not you utilize your lower level slots mid/late game. I personally do, as I find healing, buffs and debuffs a lot more valuable than lower level damage spells during mid/late game. That said, Guile is not a bad character at all. 6) Harle's top god tier spot. Overall, yes, she belongs here, despite her limited availability. It's a pretty significant chunk of the game where you can utilize her, after all. However, RNG can occasionally wreck her, particularly her magic stat. When that happens, I wouldn't recommend using her, unless the other characters available in that arc of the game are equal or worse. It's very possible characters like Radius, Norris or Karsh will outclass her magically thanks to RNG. But when RNGesus is on your side, and gives her decent stats, there's no real reason to avoid using her. 7) Fargo's top tier. Sometimes he can be amazing, but more often than not, his magic in particular is nothing great, even considering RNG. His Pillage skill is amazing, if not essential, but that's because both Kid and Mel, the only other characters with a steal-type skill, are not available for a sizeable chunk of the game. Physically, he's okay. Magically, he's below average to average in general. He'd likely be lower on the list if Kid was available, or if another powerful character had a steal-type skill. Say that I want to use Karsh and Riddel, I'd have to give up one spot for Fargo in order to obtain certain stolen items that aren't available anywhere else, such as the "plates". That, to me, is limiting and personally, I don't enjoy that. Certain semi-mandatory characters I'm ok with. Fargo..eh, I wish I could bring someone else, but the benefits of Pillage are too good to pass up. For that reason, I'd put him mid tier. 8) NeoFio's s***/low tier. In general, yes, she's not amazing. Though there's two sections of the game where you might consider using her: The search for the Hydra, and the Dwarves at Water Dragon Isle. Her green innate plus her fairly decent physical damage can destroy these encounters. RNG will ensure she's not *always* that great for those sections, but I've had it happen multiple times. Other than that, might want to switch to a different character. Honestly, Razzly is probably a better green innate pick (alongside Glenn, if you choose the route that doesn't include Razzly) than NeoFio in any case, but I just wanted to put it out there, based on my own experiences. 9) Zappa's low tier. In combat, sure, he's a physical powerhouse, but with low magic. Similar to Greco, who isn't available for a while when you recruit Zappa. That said, he brings the extremely valuable ability to call a Blacksmith anywhere you can save your game. While you might not recruit him for your battles, this one ability is more than enough reason to recruit him, and definitely factors into his overal usefulness. I'd put him mid tier, if not higher. 10) Sprigg, IMO, is at least mid-tier instead of low, due to her shapeshifting ability that can make her much stronger. Default Sprigg is fairly awful in terms of stats and grid (4 slots only, including skill). My main use for Sprigg is letting her defeat strong monsters around the map to use in the Monster Arena aboard S.S. Zelbess. The available monsters are the same as Sprigg's shapeshifting list, and any monster she personally defeats (I do this in default form just to be sure) is added to that list. Getting those monsters on the list greatly benefits in recruiting Janice. And since you can do both during the second arc of the game, why not? 11) "Why is Sneff in the game?". Come on. You can't beat Snefffffff's ffffffantastic magic show~

By the same logic, Radius and Viper are a good combo when you're Lynx, because they have a combo attack that does White damage.

No trace of Marle at all, suggesting she didn't survive Guardia's sacking. (Dalton kills Marle with the Masamune, which causes the weapon to become cursed.) As far as I'm concerned, it's as good as canon since it fits together so well. Likely the only reason this wasn't written into the story was because they wanted EVERYTHING to revolve around Serge, and a storyarc about an exiled princess, even if she wasn't the main character, would have felt too trope. If so, it was a massive missed opportunity. People love the world of Chrono because of its rich ensemble of interesting characters (a bit too many in the case of Cross). Consider a situation where the only way to break the curse on the Masamune is for the right person to forgive the spirits who were forced to commit murder, and who better than the child of the person who died? Also consider that Leena would certainly take pity on child-spirits and would want to protect them from any further harm. What if LEENA was the character who ultimately ends up with the Masamune instead of Serge? Would this undermine Serge's story or complement it? It is shown at the beginning and end of Chrono Cross that Serge and Leena's relationship, if not exactly romantic, is kind of a big deal, so both characters should be people of some importance to the overall mythos. Leena's elevation in the story would also elevate the importance of Crono and Marle's love in Trigger. I could go on and on about this. (Hint: I take these ideas seriously enough that I might be able to influence some creative decisions if the Chrono series gets a proper remake or gets the movie treatment like several other game franchises have.)

Pip is one of my favorite character that I love to use often despite the broken bug that makes his stats completely garbage. But I’ve always played the game with an interest of characters over quality anyways so it never bothered me.

I loved this video, though it was a little eye-opening that I probably wasn't playing this game super optimally when I played it for the first time a few years back. Pip, Poshul, Sprigg, Mojo... Not only were those characters I used in my playthrough, but they were some of my personal favorites to use in the game. Heck, Poshul was even in the team I beat the final boss with alongside Radius and Serge. I'm not sure why I was so drawn to such bad characters. Maybe I enjoy a challenge? Maybe I heard they were bad and wanted to prove people wrong? Maybe I just liked how weird some of them were? But I guess it doesn't really matter because this is certainly the kind of game you can still have a lot of fun playing with a sub-optimal team, and it's kind of a testament to how well designed it is that you're able to do so!
I love this game, but they really could've cut half of the roster...So many dumb characters with no bearing on the plot that honestly make this game embarrassing to play sometimes. lol

There is a difference with Serge and Lynx. Lynx final tech hits all foes Serge's hits one. The game is harder in the first playthrough with New Game+ being too easy. That being said Guile not having a meaningful grid until new game plus puts him in mid tier or upper low tier for not being powerful when it counts. As far as Red Innates are concerned Macha is actually the best overall from a stat perspective or at least tied with Miki and Draggy overall. Sprigg should be top tier because getting powerful Dopples like Taurminator, Gurgoyle, and Wight Knight make Garai and Miguel the two hardest bosses easier. Meaning she is powerful when it counts also she starts with Lagoonate which is more powerful than Lynx with Silver Swallow. Spriggan is also the key character needed to perform the Cuscus element trap trick for level 5 and 6 elements like Carnivore, Black Hole, Thunda Storm etc immediately after being in Lynx form. Draggy gets his level 7 tech earlier than most making him awesome besides Harle making him great.

Personally I think they marketed this game wrong. It was advertised as a sequel to Chrono Trigger. I would have preferred going into it as a stand alone game, then have my mind blown towards the end when CT is finally referenced.
Guess I can't argue though, I bought it the day it came out because of Chrono Trigger, but it wasn't what I expected and took years for me to finally appreciate it.

Miki was underrated as a red. Didn’t really saw her name being mentioned a whole lot or looked as a competent characters.
I was young and needed the main characters in at all times. So back then it was always who would be 3rd to Serge/Kid/Lynx/Harle and when only one of them was available, Leena comes in with an additional 3rd wheeler.
I played it a few times over and the 3rd wheel bounced between Norris, Riddel, Grobyc, Fargo and Razzly.
Serge, Glenn and Leena was my perfect party. Sorry Kid, first I don't travel with you then I don't save you 😅 I just love those two too much

I hold Fargo in alittle higher esteem..His grid isnt THAT bad, He can steal from enemies and his Invincible skill is prolly the hardest hitting in the game (if used against opposite elem of course) When Harle joins Linx, its never good idea to have 2 black elem characters, IMO Glen is much more useful then Harle. Shes also not a perm character so if you invest in her and grow to love her..she just leaves, meaning you will always have to find a sub for her when she leaves. My perfect team was always:

i disagree completely on the " its never good idea to have 2 black elem characters," and this is why; 1st, Harle rocks, best char in the game, 2nd, having 2 black innate at the same time powers them up.. 2 black innates means the field will stay black... 3rd, black elements are among the best.. now, if you find the game a little boring due to less elemental variety, that makes sense..

Locking the player out of the ability to recruit Glenn, locking him behind one of the dumbest decisions in the game is plain stupid. Most first time players aren't going to say "ya let's abandon Kid and not save her". I always feel weird picking that option, makes Serge look like an absolute tool. I always end up using Glenn and Riddel as my final party in all my playthrough. Kid was okay at first, but since it takes a long time to get her as a permanent party member, Glenn has been already my go-to guy. Before Riddel, I've been using Marcy or Leena as my mage before Riddel came along.

I would actually place Doc in Mid tier based on his final tech. It literally heals everyone completely and boosts the party’s Attack and Magic.
I usually mitigate his ok grid by making him support/debuff.
He has low defense and his attacks are sub par. His specials are his most valuable abilities. End game gearing fixes a lot of problems across all characters.

Karsh is always in my team when he's available, same with Harle and Kid. Honestly with the availability issue so many of these characters have it's no wonder that they need to include so many. Some of them could def be cut though. The entire shit tier could be cut and the game would be better.
My favorite companion was glenn and riddel. But I switched glenn or riddel with fargo whenever theres an opponent i'd want to pillage.

I think you should take into account dual and triple techs. Some characters get used only for who they tech with, which gives them a bit more usefulness
That just puts Glenn even higher in God Tier because he has a double tech with Serge. Also it would probably elevate Sneff a bit since he has one with Guile
I have to disagree on some things here.
First of all, the game's level up stats follow a certain generic pattern, but differ with each new game you start. Sometimes the RNG can be very beneficial to some characters, and/or very detrimental. I've had Serge (protagonist) with a Magic Defense stat of 7 (yes, base stat), for the majority of the game once. Or Karsh with an amazing Magic stat, while he's supposed to have it much lower.
1) Ranking Janice on the same level as Luccia. I've had Janice in my party from join to end, and while it's true that her magic stat *can* be rather low, in my experience during my many playthroughs of this game, it's been pretty consistently high. Not as high as true mages (Riddel, etc), but certainly higher than Luccia, who has some of the most consistent low stats in the game. Based on stats and consistency alone, I'd take Janice over Luccia any day, though I like both of them as characters.
2) Greco in mid-tier. Physical attacks are important for sure, but overall you'll be using 6 out of 7 points to attack and build up your grid, and then using magic (for those common non-strategic moments) With his extremely low magic stat in general, he'll end up dealing less damage than a character with decent-to-high attack *and* magic. I'd put him in low tier, personally. If you want a physical attacker, characters like Grobyc, Leah and Zoah are far superior. Greco's advantage is that you get him early.
3) Steena in mid-tier, "hard to justify her usage". I've had her in my end game party a lot, and she's amazing in both physical and magical offense. While perhaps not the absolute goddess, she is a welcome addition, despite her low-ish HP. RNG can wreck her sometimes, but she's definitely not as bad as you make her out to be. I'd put her (lower) top tier, myself, as availability isn't enough to place her this low, IMHO. There's still a chunk of the game to go at this point, including some optional content.
4) Karsh having "amazing stats". This is a minor disagreement, in that I agree Karsh is generally amazing overall, though RNG can really mess with him. I've had playthroughs where Karsh had an incredibly low magic stat. Sometimes even lower than Zoah's. Though I've also had playthroughs where Karsh's magic stat was on par with the fairly high magic stat of Serge. Top tier for sure, but potentially not *as* great as you'd want him to be, from playthrough to playthrough. So I wouldn't say he's "never a bad choice for your party". Only when he has atrocious magic stat thanks to RNG is he a worse choice than others. Something to keep in mind if you plan on using him.
5) Guile having an "awesome grid". To clarify, Guile has only a few slots available at lower level tiers, but it fans out into a large number of slots at high tiers. This means that early game, he only has a few spells to cast/consumables to use, far fewer than pretty much anyone else. That said, he's still a generally powerful mage (sturdy, as well), and the lack of slots aren't much of an issue early game, either. WandaIn is a pretty devastating skill, too. But depending on how you prefer to play, the lack of lower level magic slots can be a detriment. While it's amazing to cast lower level spells at such a high magic tier (CurePlus+5 or something), sometimes it's more beneficial to cast it at its intended third tier slot, thus not draining your entire grid for that turn, while the restoration is generally enough with the magic stat he has. Building up 6 tiers with physical attacks, and then casting CurePlus at third tier slot, will keep 3 magic tier levels available, to which the next series of physical attacks add to (up to 9). It's more of a mechanics issue, and depends on whether or not you utilize your lower level slots mid/late game. I personally do, as I find healing, buffs and debuffs a lot more valuable than lower level damage spells during mid/late game. That said, Guile is not a bad character at all.
6) Harle's top god tier spot. Overall, yes, she belongs here, despite her limited availability. It's a pretty significant chunk of the game where you can utilize her, after all. However, RNG can occasionally wreck her, particularly her magic stat. When that happens, I wouldn't recommend using her, unless the other characters available in that arc of the game are equal or worse. It's very possible characters like Radius, Norris or Karsh will outclass her magically thanks to RNG. But when RNGesus is on your side, and gives her decent stats, there's no real reason to avoid using her.
7) Fargo's top tier. Sometimes he can be amazing, but more often than not, his magic in particular is nothing great, even considering RNG. His Pillage skill is amazing, if not essential, but that's because both Kid and Mel, the only other characters with a steal-type skill, are not available for a sizeable chunk of the game. Physically, he's okay. Magically, he's below average to average in general. He'd likely be lower on the list if Kid was available, or if another powerful character had a steal-type skill. Say that I want to use Karsh and Riddel, I'd have to give up one spot for Fargo in order to obtain certain stolen items that aren't available anywhere else, such as the "plates". That, to me, is limiting and personally, I don't enjoy that. Certain semi-mandatory characters I'm ok with. Fargo..eh, I wish I could bring someone else, but the benefits of Pillage are too good to pass up. For that reason, I'd put him mid tier.
8) NeoFio's s***/low tier. In general, yes, she's not amazing. Though there's two sections of the game where you might consider using her: The search for the Hydra, and the Dwarves at Water Dragon Isle. Her green innate plus her fairly decent physical damage can destroy these encounters. RNG will ensure she's not *always* that great for those sections, but I've had it happen multiple times. Other than that, might want to switch to a different character. Honestly, Razzly is probably a better green innate pick (alongside Glenn, if you choose the route that doesn't include Razzly) than NeoFio in any case, but I just wanted to put it out there, based on my own experiences.
9) Zappa's low tier. In combat, sure, he's a physical powerhouse, but with low magic. Similar to Greco, who isn't available for a while when you recruit Zappa. That said, he brings the extremely valuable ability to call a Blacksmith anywhere you can save your game. While you might not recruit him for your battles, this one ability is more than enough reason to recruit him, and definitely factors into his overal usefulness. I'd put him mid tier, if not higher.
10) Sprigg, IMO, is at least mid-tier instead of low, due to her shapeshifting ability that can make her much stronger. Default Sprigg is fairly awful in terms of stats and grid (4 slots only, including skill). My main use for Sprigg is letting her defeat strong monsters around the map to use in the Monster Arena aboard S.S. Zelbess. The available monsters are the same as Sprigg's shapeshifting list, and any monster she personally defeats (I do this in default form just to be sure) is added to that list. Getting those monsters on the list greatly benefits in recruiting Janice. And since you can do both during the second arc of the game, why not?
11) "Why is Sneff in the game?". Come on. You can't beat Snefffffff's ffffffantastic magic show~
