The people who sees these ghost are those who have strong contact with Mako energy. That's why Cloud and Aerith sees them more than the others. Rufus in Advent Children was infected by the stigma. Aerith can speak directly to the planet and knows more of what's going on.
I believe the Whispers are essentially showing themselves to people who would greatly influence the fate of the world. Avalanche who are a key factor in this journey and chain of events. Cloud for being a main player in this world. Aerith, I mean, needs no explanation. And Rufus who we all know, plays a pivotal role in combating the WEAPONs.
@@rolandconstancio9634 I may have missed something, but is it ever confirmed Hojo actually saw them, or did he just experience being dragged off by an invisible force? Surely the whispers touching people doesn't automatically always make them visible to them, cause they've manipulated "unimportant" persons before. Obviously, he's a big player in the main events, but his role and goals directly align with having the story go exactly as it did originally, exactly as destined, because by his warped standards he wins by operating exactly as he always has.
the ramifications of him surviving has a greater impact of the ending though, had he lived, he could've tried to destroy the crater, it's why the diamond weapon was triggered and killed rufus to begin with
The people who sees these ghost are those who have strong contact with Mako energy. That's why Cloud and Aerith sees them more than the others. Rufus in Advent Children was infected by the stigma.
It really isn't surprising why Rufus can see the whispers. Rufus is the single most influential person on the planet, supernatural powers or not. Thus his ability to affect destiny is much more grounded and drawn out.
The people who sees these ghost are those who have strong contact with Mako energy. That's why Cloud and Aerith sees them more than the others. Rufus in Advent Children was infected by the stigma.
"Supernatural powers or not" I mean that does make a huge difference though if he can see supernatural things just cause he has big influence in the physical world lol. There definitely has to be something else
FF7 is definitely one of the most complex stories in gaming history. All because the planet pulled a whole "I CAN SEE THE FUTURE" about its death at the hands of Meteor and set everything in motion to save itself.
@@user-battlescar1313 Not to mention comes up with a legit decent plan to deal with Meteor. By Advent Children I think it just gets prove that Clouds stubbornness & mistrust becomes almost as damaging as anything Rufus did early on
@@FinalFantasyPeasant yes the plan that fans argued about on the web "Was AVALANCHE in the right by collecting those Huge Materias?" Left people thinking for years... well until someone purposely failed each quest to say "nope the plan doesn't stop meteor either way".
PRESIDENT SHINRA: Cloud, I am your father. CLOUD: No. No. That's imposible!!! PRESIDENT SHINRA: Search your feelings, you know it to be true!! CLOUD: No. No. No!!!
The way Rufus was treated by the president I feel like he could be a clone of him mixed in with Jenova cells in an attempt to make a cetra version of himself to leave his company too. That way Rufus either had a surrogate mother or maybe even was grown in a test tube. That was the feeling i got when i saw Rufus and the president next to eachother. Rufus looks very much like a young version of his old man
He looks exactly like his dad, there’s a pic of the young prez in the museum. It’s practically Rufus. Your theory looks more likely to me than anything.
While Rufus could theoretically be a clone (and the video kinda convinced me that there must be *something* special about Rufus), the looks he shares with his father don't really necessitate that. I found a picture of my brother some years ago and asked why I couldn't remember him having such short hair when he was around 18 years old. Turns out it was a picture of our dad...
Rufus! A man so badass even Barrett has to admit to it. Also the character I was most terrified to see in Remake because of how dear he is to me but in his few introductory scenes I was very happy with how Square has portrayed him so far. Nuanced & subtle but with some seriously suave swag. Definitely enjoyed the gambler's thrill applied to him too. But more than anything the shrewd intelligence behind his baby blue's. Very much looking forward to this 😁 xx
I'm not jumping too soon on the whole genetics thing, but one thing is true: Rufus now plays an important part in the rest of the story. The Whispers flock around the Shinra building like crazy right after he becomes president, the same moment he starts seeing them and deep down becomes aware of the change in fate. 2 things you said convinced me: 1) the fact the whispers were there the whole time but he only sees them AFTER he takes control of Shinra and 2) Tseng doesn't see them and he's had countless contact with Aerith. I can't wait to see what new actions and scenarios we'll get for Rufus. I mean, the rest of the game is almost a blank page and Sephiroth is the writer.
It actually makes sense that Cloud and Rufus are siblings, and that square enix decided to reveal this in the remakes. Think about it, that would explain why they decided to include an interaction between Cloud and Biggs/Wedge where they ask him if his father is alive and he answers no. That could have been just a first step for the revelation to occur later. Only time will tell I guess.
Being mentally 30 doesn't effect someone's actual age it normally means they've just experienced alot at an early age or had to take on responsibilities someone at a younger age shouldn't have. Which in Sephiroth's case we know he was a part of soldier at a young age which explains having a more mature mentality.
Playing the OG ff7 I always felt that there was something funky going on at the City of Ancients... Was it abandoned like 2000 years ago? The beds are still made in the bedrooms... After watching this I can only theorise that Ifalna is the last surviving ancients becasue she is the only one that Shinra spared. I Wouldnt be surprised if we find out in the next part of the remake that shinra actually commited some sort of genocide on those people, Stole their materia and/or made experiments trying to create ancient hybrids or monsters.
Well going by lore, the reason why is because Gaia asked them to leave the northern continent because it needed to heal and it wasn't able to stay abundant in life, that and it knew Jenova was on the planet and it needed to gather up the lifestream to create WEAPON. Jenova proceeds to infect and kill of a majority of the Cetra, so they put it to sleep and no one had returned until Aeris, followed by Cloud and co. But, seeing as the remake has no regard for lore, at this point anything's possible.
maybe maybe.... i always thought Sample H0512 might have been an ancient or maybe a monster mixed with an ancient (Ifalna DNA) because in the remake you can steal a timeworn talisman from it and in the item description it says they were worn by anicents or summat like that and if you look at H0512 its got like a mutated humanish skull on its head area
I find it interesting that Hojo is unaware of Ifalna's fate in OG FF7 (Hojo at Costa Del Sol reveals this), while in FF7R, not only is he aware, but he taunts Aerith with this information. He could be playing dumb in OG FF7, but I'm doubtful. Just thought I'd add this because I haven't heard any speculation regarding this change.
Rufus' age is the bigger issue here. If he's 30, by the standing timeline, he's too old to reasonably be a Jenova experiment. Other than that, it's entirely in line With Shinra Sr's mentality to do such an experiment to make a worthy heir. S+I=R would be narratively plausible, but lacks foreshadowing. Another way to look at it is narratively. Rufus is very much the fourth main character in FF7 (with Cloud, Sephiroth and Aerith). Between them, Seph and Aerith are the godlike beings (representing Cetra and Jenova) while Cloud and Rufus are the mortal proto-heroes. This would suggest that Rufus and Cloud have a similar relation as Aerith and Sephiroth. In some ways similar, in some ways polar opposites. This creates a plausible narrative that, like Cloud, Rufus was enhanced only later in life. It would be expected that the reason was the polar opposite: where Cloud was just a plaything for Hojo, Rufus was meant to be enhanced. It should be noted here that this gets severely messed up by Cloud "taking over" Zack's destiny. It's plausible that Rufus more resembles Zack, and Cloud's aspects are the contamination that unbalances the two of them. Anyway. If the mirroring does hold up and the writers considered these factors, the expectation then is that Rufus was injected with Ifalna or Aerith's cells, mirroring Zack/Cloud's treatment with Sephiroth's cells. Seeing as Shin-ra wanted to recreate an ancient, and they did this with Jenova, you would assume they'd try the same with an actual confirmed Ancient who they had plenty of access to.
I have a theory. Ever since Sephiroth touched Aerith at the beginning of the game before Cloud met her, Aerith might've inherited seeing the future or being aware of the events. Just like how Aerith transmitted that ability to Marlene. If this is true then Sephiroth is a genius. And it's terrifying. We might be playing right into his hands.
I am surprised nobody talks about the massive elephant in the room Whispers are basically defending the outcome for the future, right? Has anyone thought of it like this? Instead of thinking fate is protected, it may be in severe harm all this time. If the Whispers relate to the planet, which essentially is a organism in itself, is Jenova the threat to fate? IMPLYING, does this alien lifeform as we know it have to abide by the laws of the planet and thus is bound to fate too, OR, is Jenova unchained and the Dreamweaver is giving Cloud those premonitions of the future? So instead of simply protecting the future, the whispers were trying to combat Jenova by doing all they can to keep the future as is, as Jenova is trying to fuck it over.
this is actually possible because the developers say that you can see the Whispers when you come in contact with special people, we dont know if sephiroth touched aerith before we see her
I believe it was revealed explicitly in Advent Children or OG that Marlene’s bloodline is about as close to the Ancients as Aerith’s bloodline is. I do agree with Aerith having the ability to transmit special abilities in general tho
Your theory is completely off base. In the original, Sephiroth doesn’t appear in reality until about where the remake ends. Anything with his before that point are visions. In the remake, it is very much Sephiroth (the feathers are one big hint of him being real) and a more powerful version of Sephiroth that you don’t see until muuuuuuch later in the original.
That scene in the honey bee inn with President Shinra in cosplay marking out for Sephiroth is a smoking gun that never got a follow up in the original game. It wouldn't shock me if Rufus was experimented on as a child.
Wow, I think you covered all the bases here. I definitely think Cloud and Rufus are connected in some way and that it's possible Rufus is part Cetra. Just a couple things: Rufus is looking down out the Shinra building in that scene where he sees the Whispers. Then it cuts to Cloud looking up (it makes it look like they're looking at each other from a distance, like they're connected or can sense each other). One thing I noticed about the remake is that there is HEAVY symbolism and spoilers through music and imagery being done. I really believe that they are connected in some way, whether it's a brothers or S-Cell carriers. Also, to support your theory of there being more Cetra, I'm pretty sure Marlene's mother was one. It's heavily hinted at that Marlene can hear the planet in the remake. It would kind of make sense if Rufus could too and maybe hes just keeping it hush hush because he doesn't want to get the Aerith treatment.
These are interesting ideas, but I feel like you skimmed 'The Kids are Alright' (and probably 'On the Way to a Smile') or just read the wiki because you've inferred some things from it that just are just not present in the story. Annette is not a failed clone. She one of President Shinra's many mistresses. The reason she was in the Crater was because she was FOLLOWING the robed figures, not because she WAS one. Kadaj 'using her body' was just Kadaj using Evan's memory to appear as her--the story makes it clear that at least Kadaj can see other people's memories by touching them and appear as anyone he sees in them. It's interesting to note that the Remnant's (Kadaj, Yazoo and Loz) are names taken from three people who perished in a fire that deeply traumatized Kyrie. When Kadaj appears to her, he takes on the guise of the person she remembers but he looks completely different to Evan. He doesn't realize the difference until later, but by then it's far too late. I think Rufus' bit in 'On the Way to a Smile' is the backbone of the book, along with Denzel's story. You pretty much nailed that. For what it's worth, I think Rufus can see the 'Whispers' simply because he's now deeply tied to the fate of the planet. The timing of him taking on the mantle of President adds more credence to this. An interesting study, in any case. (I really hope Evan makes it into the remake somehow).
It's been 23 years, several installments and media... But damn does this game keep on giving. Even if this is all theory, whatever story is behind all and the world of FF7, there's enough lore and potential for a lifetime of events. This is just personal, but this kind of world building is what's perfect for things like an mmo or several expansions... I'll say, if they are expanding the story of FF7 this way, by exploring all corners and possibilities in the lore, i'm more than ok with the remake taking several parts; even if the next installments use the exact same engine and assets i would pay full price for just the development of the story and characters. To me looks like Square did a Capcom with this game and is back to being the narrative juggernaut it once was with it's storytelling and world-building. Final Fantasy VII remake, taking into accounts all events and theories and setups, really feels like an intro installment, or a pilot episode of sorts.
I couldn't agree more though I feel like the remake is a continuation of the original story, I think this game takes place after the events of avident children and Sephiroth is the same one but went back and time to change the course as to why the wisps are here
You keep saying that a future Sephiroth was the one who picks up another clone in Shinra’s office. That’s not what is happening. Both sephiroths are clones. The body they pick up is Jenova.
I mean that doesn't really correlate. Something inhabiting a clone doesn't equal Jenova. Kadaj even inhabits a clone at some point. That very much could have been future Seph doing a timeline manipulation
I mean you even see the Sephiroths transform from the clones. You even see him transform back into the clone when atop the tower. Secondly, look at the skin of the body they are carrying. It’s the same nasty skin shown Jenova having when you see her in that container where cloud freaks out on that bridge. This really isn’t open to interpretation.... it’s clear as day even if it’s subtle.
Yes i forget if its marco or the clone we meet with areith that became jenova dreamweaver but we kill that one and the other takes sephi appearance and escapes with jenovas body i mean when he jumps off the building he changes back to his normal form still holding jenova in his arms.......
@@FinalFantasyPeasant There's 2 clones present in the building at the end because it shows both their tattoos - Marco (2) and the one from Sector 5 (49). 49 disappears and "dies" after being used by the Jenova specimen to fight you - it seems he is effectively Jenova Dreamweaver. Marco then escapes from the shinra building with Jenova's body. Sephiroth in the first instance we see him is 49, the second he is 2. I think in both instances this is "present" Sephiroth rather than future Sephiroth. The only doubt is that he seems to be able to see Whispers and slashes at them. This COULD be him cleaning his sword off though. There's no shot of him actually looking at the whispers. Present Sephiroth could also have been made aware of whispers. I think the only 2 questions we need to ask ourselves - do we fight Marco at the end or Future Sephiroth. I think the latter as Marco is the one moving Jenova in the world, the fated Sephiroth is AC Sephy. That suggests to me that Marco Sephy is NOT aware of the Whispers and the one shot is a fake out or he is unaware of the relevance of the fates at that point.
So crazy watching this video after Rebirth, specially the point you made at 23:10 - Rebirth was the same logic. After the climax between Aerith-Sephiroth-Cloud the first thing we see is Rufus at Shinra Tower for his own moment with Sephiroth.
I love the cut between Rufus Rufus looking out at the cyclone of Whispers and Cloud on the highway looking up. Really cemented these 2 as mirrors for each other. What year was Jenova installed in the Nibelheim reactor? Might not President Shinra have personally stopped by to observe? Possibly observed a pretty blonde girl named Claudia? We still don't know Cloud's father after all... What a great video Pez 🤟 xx
The Whispers sight seems to work with touch. Aerith touched Cloud when they first met and the camera focused precisely on this action. Later Barret pushed Cloud at the bar, Jessie hugged Cloud, Biggs touched Cloud's shoulder at Sector 7 upper city and Wedge was carried by Cloud and Biggs after the mission on the warehouse. One could argue that Rufus came in contact with Cloud in their Battle (since Rufus has an unavoidable counter), but we can only consider canon the cutscenes. Something really weird is going on with Rufus.
Why do people not understand that cloud has had contact with a lot more people than that. It's not as simple as 'cloud touched him, now he can see it too"
@@justinbond9377 Sometimes devil's on the details. When it comes to silent storytelling (show, don't tell) everything has to have a purpose, otherwise it should just be removed. The importance of the touch is something the game gave to us, so we have to work with that, at least for now.
There as a theory that Rufus is Aerith's brother. It kinda fits in time wise. Ifalna was at Shinra HQ by the time Rufus was born. Who's to say Pres Shinra didn't want to get a slice of an exotic beauty like Ifalna while she was captured and experimented on by Hojo and secured himself a heir that's of Cetra blood (similar to how Vincent could be Sephiroth biological dad)
Gosh damn brother... this is the 4th-5th time I’ve watched this video. For some reason, this is my favorite video you’ve ever done. I think this video is SO top notch, it’s crazy. Square should make a streaming service with how much content they COULD have from Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest alone. Not to mention Octopath Traveler (if they make it a running series and not just a single game, like they should), AND the Bravely series. They could make SO many shows around their IP’s, it’s actually ridiculous... BUT, they should make a streaming service, and have you make these videos as an actual running series. That’s how damn good this video is, and all your other theory videos. I love them all, and they’re so well done, but this one is on a whole other level. SO good... keep it up man
I watched this the other day and got to the Underground Lab on my replay directly after. And I noticed the Failed Experiment Boss had a move similar to Rufus's. In the second phase, it has a move called Voltanic Action where it has Unknown Entities (smaller ones) cast Thundaga on it so it can either absorb it or redirect it at your party. Rufus has this exact same move in his boss fight where Darkstar will cast Thundaga on Rufus and he'll redirect it with Thunderclap. As far as I know off the top of my head, these are the ONLY types of enemies to attack like this. And its Thundaga both times. Coincidence..? Or maybe not....?
I also find it curious that they gave Rufus a more silver-blond hair colour, when he had a similar colour as Cloud in the OG. Granted, he already was silver blond in Advent Children but maybe they were toying with the idea of a connection with Sephiroth back then. Great video, keep it up! c:
31:48 this is an interesting change. In the original game he asks Aerith how was Ifalna when sunbathing in Costa del Sol and is surprised to know she died. H:"Your mother? Oh, you mean Ifalna. How is she?" A:"You didn't know? She died." H:"......I see." I guess the Remake version makes more sense for Hojo's twisted character. I'm just curious how far Square will push this.
Kudos for this video. One thing that struck me as odd, and that made me wonder if Rufus had some sort experimentation with Jenova cells and mako infusions happening, is his strength. He takes on Cloud mano a mano and he just breaks a sweat. In Crisis Core, Zack mentions how normal people are no match for him, a SOLDIER, iirc. And ven if Cloud was never officially a SOLDIER, he's strong enough that no one questions that fact. So, why then would Rufus be a match for Cloud if we assume he's just a regular human?
I would say that scene in DOC with Reeves is a good representation of the whispers in the compilation. But there are a few times where they reference the screams of the planet in OG. I think because of hardware deficiencies we couldn't have them shown in the right way until now.
It's because of the role he has in Advent Children. The game is a sequel with Advent Children Sephiroth travelling back to 'Remake' the future so he succeeds. Anyone who has a major role in that movie can see them.
I’ve been wondering if Rufus was part of the Jenova project while not knowing much of the lore, simply because of how freaking SIMILAR he looks to Sephiroth. Hair color, eye shape, lip shape, skin tone, physical frame. The biggest difference is their hair and outfits, And the eye color, but I can’t remember if only Sephiroth got those eyes, or if Genesis and Angeal also had them. If all three had the same eyes, then that’s a point against Rufus being a Jenova project baby. Though I do have some thoughts about the Cetra connection after seeing this video. Seeing Jenova in the remake, she’s in a mostly humanoid form (we always knew this) but her face especially looks human and weirdly looks like both Sephiroth and AERITH. Which makes me think that when she was sealed away, she was still mostly in the form of a Cetra. Therefore, if Rufus is not a Jenova baby but a Cetra, his and Aerith’s resemblance to Sephiroth could be that Sephiroth inherited the “Cetra look” from Jenova’s disguise. Fun fact, the reason Sephiroth and Aerith look similar in the original game was because they were first conceptualized as siblings. Jenova passing on her mimicked form to Sephiroth would be a cool in world explanation for the similarity.
I'm not going to lie, I usually see long videos like this and just scroll past them, but boy oh boy am I glad I tuned in for this. Gonna go back and watch some previous videos now 😁
Whispers also known as the arbiters of fate (keepers of fate), are beings born of the planet said to enforce the course of destiny. They appear in large gatherings whenever events stray too far from fate's intended path. I believe Rufus can see them as he has changed the path of his own destiny or as you aid he has a linked path with Cloud ad the others., I like the part where he could be a Cetra or given S-cells as a baby maybe we'll learn more later in the 2nd half of the game when it's out
Almost 4 years later and I have never forgotten this video. The amount of research you did for this is insane. I dont think square even considered any of the things you did when it came to the ancients' extinction, but this video has made me headcanon that rufus is half ancient for years
Another hour long video with all kinds of wild speculation without actually reading what the developers said. They say in the ultimania that someone can see them when they come in contact with special people (aerith is one). What cloud says in the game when they show up in sector 7 the first time about coming in contact with whispers is wrong. Only people that touched cloud see it in that scene, and he only sees them after touching aerith. They literally make it a point to show that barret pushes cloud in 7th heaven and touches him, Jessie hugs cloud, ect. Rufus touches cloud in battle and doesn't see them before that battle (they are swirling around the helicopter). There are other people cloud touches but we are never shown a scene confirming that they cant see it ( we are shown that Tseng never touches cloud or aerith and he CANT see them)
The more I think on it, the more I'm convinced the fact Rufus had geostigma means he must have some form of Jenova Cells in him in some way. There's no other explanation of why he had geostigma when literally NOBODY else bar Cloud from the OG game gets it. If he does have some form of cells in him, that goes a long way to explain many of the discrepancies. He may not have been showered with Jenova Cells or injected with them at birth, but it seems almost certain he has them in some way inside him.
Rufus got geostigma after infected water got into his body, no one else got into anything that was infected which is why they didn't get it, now if you said "No one who was in the infected waters got it besides Rufus" that would have made sense but iirc a couple of the others who were with him did get it.
Damn, just like Rufus's role has evolved to what it now is in the remake, your editing and theory skills have also evolved and been more perfected Pez! The level of detail and the freaking depth of the research there near the end of the vid was amazing, I'm completely convinced. I personally wouldn't be surprised if they do end up revealing that they're half brothers, though from what you've said I think he should be a half cetra something from the crater and just connected to those other two guys, but personally I kind of do want him and Cloud to be related!
My favorit crazy theorie: Rufus and his family are Al-Bhed from Final Fantasy X, and Shinra from X-2 could be the grandfather or something else. Haha. But realy I don´t care, human, experiment, alien or whatever. Even though he is a normal person, without super power, he is still amazing.
I remember catching this on my second playthrough. I have 2 theories. Either the people who can see the Whispers are major players in the threads of fate, or only people whose destinies have been changed can see the whispers. Tseng's destiny has not yet been altered, yet. But Rufus' maybe have changed after the battle with Cloud. Anyway, all really good stuff to consider. There's still a mystery here and I love trying to crack it!
I have yet to hear anyone's take on the meaning behind Kadaj kneeling to Rufus. Kneeling is traditionally a sign of fealty. Now, Kadaj was indeed revealing his true fealty, but it was very "accomodating" to this man to make sure he could see him, rather than demanding to be looked directly at. Just.. weird. Is it not? or is that just me?
Could be that it's symbolic as Shinra is the source of Sephiroth and his powers - and hoping Rufus would allow for more of him to be made - or as a sarcastic move. It's been years since I watched the movie though. :(
Rufus' 2-year leave is due to his house arrest after the failed attempt to assassinate President Shinra. So it wasn't he decided to take a protracted vacation but was effectively forced by his father. The dates and events are entirely coincidental and have no firm connection nor causation. Some other "significant changes" could have been a product of mere editorial decisions or aesthetic changes to better fit the narrative thread. Rufus seeing the Whispers might just be an instrument to highlight the character's importance in the plot ahead or a signal of its development and relevance shifting somehow... Anywho, this is just my speculation.
Maybe he is Half Cetra and his mom, died from complications during child birth, but telling President Shinra how to access the Northern Crater before she died. The thing with Nomura is that if you've thought about it because you can see it, chances are high that he's taken it 5 to ten steps further.
Or Ifalna is Rufus' mother. Which would make Rufus and Aerith half siblings. It's also possible that the entire Shinra family are Cetra descendents on the 'Dark' Cetra line (represented by purple flowers instead of yellow)
@@justinwhite2725 there's those two options as well. Both would make for pretty good character duality contrasts the same way Sephiroth does for Cloud.
I was doing a bit of digging...and came up with this: the flowers on Rufus' coin are mandragora/mandrake flowers, which have been involved in stories about magical powers...It was said in some tales that they could only be harvested in moonlight by a black dog attached to a cord (Darkstar/Dark Nation, anyone? She does appear on that side of the coin, hmm....) after proper rituals had been conducted, and that they were tied to dark powers, that, get this, drove men mad if they heard the shriek of a mandrake. The roots are also highly poisonous. To continue with this the color of the mandrake ranges from....purple to yellow. May be looking a little too hard into it, but I find the symbolism fascinating.
In support of other ancients surviving, there's the chocobo sage and the "Ancient" still guarding the Temple of the Ancients. Both of them had changed due to age, time, and whatever else.. but in regards to the one in the Temple of the Ancients, it was referred to as an ancient.
Also while very interesting; the whole thing could be explained as "fate"... And as it happens, either Shinra captures Wedge (and thus Rufus sees the whispers) or close to that moment comes the changes in the motorcycle chase. I doubt he has cetra/jenova cells, in fact the change in birth day makes it less likely unless it's to show Rufus as the first. It's also noteworthy that Rude and Reno got aged up too from 25/27 in ff7 to 30 and 32 in ff7R. That's a rabbit hole in itself. It's also noteworthy that Zack sees the whispers in the past pretty close to that point in time.. This could mean that the fate he was bound by....no longer applies akin to Zack.
On another note: Aerith herself cannot see the Whispers, either, UNTIL she touches Cloud. You can see it in her expression. Before she could only feel them harassing her.
Coming back to this... Aerith can't see the Whispers until AFTER she touches Cloud. She's harassed by them, she can feel/hear their presence (they are, after all, the voices of the planet as she explains at the end of the game, meaning they have been around since ALL the games).. But if you watch her face, she can't see them until she touches Cloud. Notice before she has no targets, nothing to look at. If you can see a threat you'd look at it to shoo it away, not look at the ground. She touches Cloud and she has this shock and awe expression as her eyes go wide with a bright-eyed "OMG WHAT IS THAT WHICH I CAN SEE NOW BUT NEVER SAW BEFORE" gasp. This makes the only constant for...literally everyone... Cloud. Everyone that can fight, see, or otherwise have any meaningful reaction to them has recently been in contact with Cloud.
Evil or not Shinras role in the worlds story is undeniably pivotal to the outcome of the future events of the whole story. And Rufus is at the helm of Shinra.
I SO APPRECIATE ALL THE WORK YOU PUT INTO THIS VIDEO!!!! I’m happy it’s as long as it is, and I would watch the whole thing even if it was 3 hours long. I’m so fascinated by Rufus’ character. I want an epic fanfiction about his life 🤩 please make more ff7 videos!!!
I've said it before and I'll say it again, Rufus Shinra IS the WEAPON slayer. He's 2 for 2 on weapon kills, which in the original Japanese game means he's taken out more WEAPONS than Cloud's crew.
Rufus has mako treatment surely. In advent children his geostigma suggests he has J-Cells, but it's possible they ret-con that element (i wouldn't mind it would make more sense... although he does attend the reunion... but never wheres a cape and gets controlled by sephiroth...)
The battle with Rufus shows a literal mind connection with him and Darkstar. I think that this is a way of linking the connection that Aeris made with RedXIII. (A cetra connecting with an animal) So I would be surprised if they didn't make him a cetra. But I'd settle for the brother theory. Because correct me if I'm wrong, but we don't know who Clouds father is do we?
Here is another one Rufus could have played with Aerith when they were kids and ended up being able to see the whispers since then? If not just a childhood friend of Aerith, could he be a child of the whispers/human hybrid?
I actually think these would be the most resonable explanation just like how aerith had given the same abilities to marlene but knowing tetsuya he probably will over complicate this.
Im gonna take that headcanon in my fanfic universe 🤩... Sephiroth, Aerith and Rufus as chilhood friends and all they want to do is protect Aerith because they want to save Gaia in their own ways .
I think Rufus is part Cetra. We know little of his mother and with all of the small detailed official information, I'd say this is the most believable theory. I don't think Cloud and Rufus are related, however; we'd have to look up the birthdate of Cloud's mom.
A rabbit hole indeed. Really interesting though. I hear that the main people behind FFVII have been plotting the continnuation of final fantasy VII for the past 20 years so having them come up with such a convoluted plot isn't really farfetched especially if they were working on it as a team even if it just was in their free time.
I worry that I might be the only person that's read The Kids Are Alright. This is the third theory video on TH-cam from a prominent FFVII coverage channel that I have to correct. Evan works WITH Kyrie and Leslie. He's completely subordinate, holds no sway over the rest of his cohorts, and is viewed as an outcast even in their small numbers.
@@JKMlive Or Tifa, for that matter. Girl punches giant robots to pieces, and she's a normal human who just took a lot of kung fu lessons. There's a scene at the end of the remake showing Midgar townspeople cleaning up after all the destruction and stuff, and there are dudes there - like, nameless background characters - who can be seen picking up huge steel I-beams by themselves and heft them on their shoulders like it's nothing. Some people in that setting are just damn strong. They're basically anime characters who can get super powers simply by working out.
Rufus is essentially a member of the Turks training and resources wise, if not better, and is even their Director, and the Turks are super soldiers via equipment instead of by being mako-infused, and you never see Turks being afraid to fight SOLDIERs. Especially now that it's been canonized that weapons are constructed around a core materia that can directly enhance its wielder, superhuman feats from non-inherently superhuman individuals are not outlandish in-universe. ...Kinda makes me wonder, how overwhelmingly deadly is Shinra's Golden Gun you think?
Wait ... Lucrecia whose unborn foetus was injected with Jenova cells suffered, during her pregnancy, with visions from the future about her son Sephiroth and the calamity he would brought into the world. Evan mother's Annette who were a temporary scientist in the Nibelheim shinra manor, and probably worked near the Jenova cells, predicted that her son would one day need an surgery. Annette then later became a Sephiroth clone, something Cloud could have become had Zack and Tifa not rescued him. azard became an Angel clone, Angel who's art of the Jenova's project. Rufus kind of unconsciously predicted he would need an escape route in the Shinra tower for the future with the trap door, and speculations and theories seem to link him to the legacy of cetra and the legacy of Jenova. And Finally, Cloud who is a "failed" Sephiroth clone, who's got J-Cells in him, also experiments grasps and visions of the future in the Remake, he even got one of the Sector 7's plate fall before he met Aerith. Rufus' path undeniably crossed that of his half-brothers, then that of Cloud, Evan too saw his fate interact with Rufus and Cloud. Although he was unconscious during all this time, Cloud's path also crossed that of Lazard through Zack. And with the theories regarding Cloud and his absent and unknown father, all those dates things, all of these beautiful people have two common factors, Jenova and Shinra. Coincidence ? I do not think so
The whispers and Harbinger of Fate are the manifestation of destiny within the planet. Rufus is integral to the fate of the planet in 2 ways: He uses Shinra to to move the Mako Cannon from Junon to Midgar. he then uses it to fire the Mako Cannon to break the barrier over the Northern crater, which allows our heroes to defeat Sephiroth the 1st time. then his role in Advent Children also.
About Dirge of Cerberus...isn't Rufus the one funding the resistance or the allies to fight against villains or the Hojo's puppets? Reeve did say that they have help of someone who is indebted to the planet and Rufus is indebted after Advent Children. Also aren't Neo-Reunion people from quite the time back but hidden because they speak of brothers and sisters like Genesis at the end of Dirge of Cerberus.
I think it’s because his fate is uncertain. If you all remember, in the original game, Rufus supposedly dies when the building falls but is shown to be alive in AC. I think the fates are attaching themselves to Rufus to make sure he doesn’t die and everything goes according to plan. Rufus is seeing them because they are interacting directly to him.
In regards to Evan Townshend and his mother SPOILERS FOR THE BOOK The Kids Are Alright: A Turks Side Story. His mum didn't predict he'd need surgery because of Kadaj stabbing him in the future. Evan was born with a weak heart and had a procedure to fix it as a kid. After the surgery the doctor lied to his mother and told her that Evan had a growth in his brain that would need more surgery at some point, to scam her out of more money. That's why she spent years saving up. It's also worth noting that Evan has shoulder surgery before Kadaj stabs him because Elena shoots him and pretty much damn near obliterates his shoulder 😂 Love this video. Not trying to undermine the theory and it doesn't take anything away. Just something I had to clear up.
@@ripperhigh8001 There is plenty of circumstantial pieces of evidence to support. President Rufus is well known for being a womanizer. Has several KNOWN bastard children. Cloud not ever talking about his dad in the main game. Rufus is becoming more important to the story, or always was more important than we knew. Not very many "blonde" characters in the game. Cloud, President Shinra, Rufus, and Cid. So, there is "literally several indications" that are not unreasonable to assume.
Nah, Rufus already has 2 half brothers. 1st one is Lazard from Crisis Core and second one is Evan Townsend from Kids Are Alright novel (pretty cool one!). Kinda doubt Cloud is 3rd. They would reveal it somewhere already.
I would really like to see a Theory of Cloud being related to the Shinra family. The likeness of Cloud and Rufus is uncanny. While cloud had a lot of physical features from is mother, the Colour of President Shinra/Rufus hair is exactly the same. The Shinra Manor is right by Clouds house and President Shinra is already known to have illegitimate Sons. This could also be why Hojo experimented on Cloud making him into a Seph clone. Lazard was a successful Angeal clone so Maybe Shinra blood is the key to good Clones.
Look, Remake being a reboot engineered by the Cloud of the first run gives me a very different view on the Whispers. It's one of two things. Either the Whispers are the spirits of the Cetra which did in fact whisper to Aerith intelligibly and unintelligibly to Cloud and other Jenova cell bearers or they are the spirits of the Geostigma sufferers of Advent Children (one of whom was Rufus himself, let us not forget!) Let's look at both cases. If the Whispers are Cetra then they are supporting First Run Cloud and could sense from him exactly how important Rufus is in what is about to transpire. If they are Geostigma spirits then there is a synergy between then and Rufus, Cloud, SOLDIERs under the Reunion effect, and anyone else tainted by Jenova cells in either timeline.
46:13 After beating remake and pondering for a few minutes on how they came to the ideas that they did regarding alternate realities, this very line came into my head and it all came together for me.
Bcuz he is actually the leader and founder of Avalanche He has come in contact with Sephiroth the soldiers and Aerith throughout his life and learning about Aerith her mother and the ancients lead him to start Avalanche in search of the promise land and finding a way to heal the planet. I hope they really delve into all of this Esp the Turks and Vincent Events from DOC were extremely important Outside of the side plot of the game even tho that is actually pretty awesome tha they found a way to bring this back to old school final fantasy with chaos the crystals and warriors of the light
Such an amazing video, I was thoroughly captivated the entire time. I want to believe Rufus is the opposite side of the same coin of Sephiroth. Perhaps a clone of him, or a long lost brother of Sephiroth or something. Can't wait for the story to unfold. I think time will prove your theory to be much more correct than incorrect.
Rufus Shinra can see the Whispers because he gets infected in Advent Children by geostigma. (But that didn't happen yet) But it's the reason why he even gets infected in the first place, with already Mako Poisoning in his vains.
Loved this theory video. Can completely believe it. Interested to see how it works out. While I was already very intrigued in the new direction the Remake can potentially go in, this theory has me curious for Rufus's side as well. Love it!
I did not think i was going to sit through this entire video, but it was deeply interesting, and you made some pretty excellent points. I wouldn't call any of this "grasping at straws".
Hey, that Kitase interview is with my favorite pro wrestler, Kenny Omega! He often uses FF7, and especially Sephiroth, imagery in his wrestling gear and entrances. His finishing move is called the One Winged Angel.
when you think you're ballsdeep with a game for 20 years but suddenly you learn even more new things. thank you so much for the information, I had no idea about the stories that tell about Rufus saving those people and how he got the geostigma. I also love all your theories, thanks for bringing so much information together from all kinds of side games and books. mind blown big salute to the tin foil hat
Whoever touched Aerith, Cloud did, then whoever touched Cloud after that, they all managed to see these Whispers. The battle between Cloud and Rufus, probably caused the latter to be able see them...
Wait Remake Rufus is personality wise closer to his Advent Childern counterpart, that the Original games Rufus, maby like Aerith and Sephiroth he is also timetraveling and a secret ally of Aerith.
For his initial experiments Hojo could have easily implanted Jenova cells in test subjects and not subjected them to a mako shower, meaning they wouldn't have mako eyes. It is extremely likely that he would have performed many versions of the process with and without mako to compare the results because as crazy and disgusting as he is, he is still a scientist.
I always figured Rufus shot the Avalanche helicopter down to keep up appearances. He may not have even given the direct order. The Turks may have simply assumed he wanted it and acted.
Your "half brothers" theory could make sense because we only ever meet Cloud's mother and never know who his father is, so President Shinra could have knocked her up when visiting Nibelheim and set to g up the reactor.
Rufus might be injected some Jenova cells in his childhood and, according to his skills, probably had the very similar training as the members of SOLDIER
I think only those with the ability to alter fate can see the whispers. Rufus now being freshly made prez of Shinra along with his seperate ambitions might be why he can see the whispers. That's what I've been assuming anyway.
Love the content Peasant. I've been watching your videos since the announcement of FF7R. Hopefully there will be FF7R theory videos for the next ten years with each game released. Cheers

Cloud for being a main player in this world.
Aerith, I mean, needs no explanation.
And Rufus who we all know, plays a pivotal role in combating the WEAPONs.
I agree. Hojo also notices them
@@rolandconstancio9634 I may have missed something, but is it ever confirmed Hojo actually saw them, or did he just experience being dragged off by an invisible force? Surely the whispers touching people doesn't automatically always make them visible to them, cause they've manipulated "unimportant" persons before. Obviously, he's a big player in the main events, but his role and goals directly align with having the story go exactly as it did originally, exactly as destined, because by his warped standards he wins by operating exactly as he always has.

It really isn't surprising why Rufus can see the whispers. Rufus is the single most influential person on the planet, supernatural powers or not. Thus his ability to affect destiny is much more grounded and drawn out.

The fact the original and remake can have so many separate story elements and theories crafted proves how creative and unique this entire story is.
FF7 is definitely one of the most complex stories in gaming history. All because the planet pulled a whole "I CAN SEE THE FUTURE" about its death at the hands of Meteor and set everything in motion to save itself.
Not really. It makes it convoluted and confusing to follow. The separate story elements just make it a mess.
There is theory that Rufus is related to cloud imean the look kinda the same

Hojo: it seems in your anger you killed her
Sephiroth: Nooooooooo
Yes! Cloud and Rufus are siblings.
Sephiroth: And I you and you are I
The way Rufus was treated by the president I feel like he could be a clone of him mixed in with Jenova cells in an attempt to make a cetra version of himself to leave his company too.
It's hinted in Advent Children he's suffering from geostigma, so he definitely has jenova cells.

Sephiroth was aged up too. He's physically 25 but mentally 30 years old in the Ultimania which means he is the same age as Rufus.
No, he is still 25. 30 only implies he is more mature.
Being mentally 30 doesn't effect someone's actual age it normally means they've just experienced alot at an early age or had to take on responsibilities someone at a younger age shouldn't have. Which in Sephiroth's case we know he was a part of soldier at a young age which explains having a more mature mentality.
@@Matcha_Lily no it means his actual age is 30 but his body is 25 because he spent 5 years in the lifestream
@@alau5505 that's strange. I feel like the item description is too unique to not make your theory true, unless you can get it from other enemies
I am surprised nobody talks about the massive elephant in the room
Whispers are basically defending the outcome for the future, right?
@@connorgray7688 explicitly you say....where, when and how?
I couldn't agree more though I feel like the remake is a continuation of the original story, I think this game takes place after the events of avident children and Sephiroth is the same one but went back and time to change the course as to why the wisps are here
The VII story is like a vine that keep growing in a million directions. I don't know how the VII team keeps it all straight.
Must be why the games take so long to make, they put so much detail and story into literally every little thing and character
@@FinalFantasyPeasant no dude read the ultimania for god sake before making hour long videos

Great video, keep it up! c:
I had guessed that the next game was going to be called FF7: Reunion - this video is really cementing that. Great work!
31:48 this is an interesting change. In the original game he asks Aerith how was Ifalna when sunbathing in Costa del Sol and is surprised to know she died.
H:"Your mother? Oh, you mean Ifalna. How is she?"
A:"You didn't know? She died."
H:"......I see."
I guess the Remake version makes more sense for Hojo's twisted character.
There are other people cloud touches but we are never shown a scene confirming that they cant see it ( we are shown that Tseng never touches cloud or aerith and he CANT see them)
Literally, i don't understand this question
Rude and Reno touched Cloud
Hojo saw them without touching Cloud or Aerith
@@alpaslankilavuz5470 Hojo does experiments on Ifalna and Aerith so he's had some contact.
@@alpaslankilavuz5470 Barret has touched hojo when they first meet him while he’s pushing hojo to move.
(And yes I know I’m late xD)
Pretty sure that when Rufus becomes VP and goes on a “disclosed business trip” was actually him being put under house arrest at the Turk HQ.
He may not have been showered with Jenova Cells or injected with them at birth, but it seems almost certain he has them in some way inside him.
shera actually got geostigma.
Rufus got geostigma after infected water got into his body, no one else got into anything that was infected which is why they didn't get it, now if you said "No one who was in the infected waters got it besides Rufus" that would have made sense but iirc a couple of the others who were with him did get it.
The entire plot of Advent Children was that Geostigma was a huge deal many people were dealing with lol.
I think he's part cetra, considering how his father sleeps around.
(A cetra connecting with an animal)
So I would be surprised if they didn't make him a cetra.
That would be interesting if this video didn't already point out that Rufus didn't notice the Whispers until after his fight with Cloud
He is also way too strong... so Jenova cells seems a real possibility
Or even mako.. I mean he can hanging on a flying helicopter and can shoot with a shotgun with only one arm
@@renooftheturks984 what about reno and rude though. Reno moved as fast as lightning but he isn't mako enhanced.
Been a while since i saw a live video from Final fantasy peasant. This gonna be the best video as the previous videos
They`re referring to DEEPGROUND and similar SOLDIER/JENOVA descendants like The Remnants and Cloud.
Always wanted Rufus as a party member to be honest.
In regards to Evan Townshend and his mother
SPOILERS FOR THE BOOK The Kids Are Alright: A Turks Side Story.
It's also worth noting that Evan has shoulder surgery before Kadaj stabs him because Elena shoots him and pretty much damn near obliterates his shoulder 😂
Love this video. Not trying to undermine the theory and it doesn't take anything away. Just something I had to clear up.
I'm going to swing for the fences and say it will be revealed that Cloud and Rufus are half brothers. Probably not oh, but you never know.
not a chance, there is literally zero indication of this
@@ripperhigh8001 There is plenty of circumstantial pieces of evidence to support.
@@StuicideDesigns I have red hair, and don't know who my dad is. You think Carrot Top is my father?
@@justinbond9377 Yes, he indeed is your father. Get rich, son!
Finally, a video on this. I've been thinking about this alot.
46:13 After beating remake and pondering for a few minutes on how they came to the ideas that they did regarding alternate realities, this very line came into my head and it all came together for me.
Bcuz he is actually the leader and founder of Avalanche
He has come in contact with Sephiroth the soldiers and Aerith throughout his life and learning about Aerith her mother and the ancients lead him to start Avalanche in search of the promise land and finding a way to heal the planet.
I hope they really delve into all of this
Esp the Turks and Vincent
Events from DOC were extremely important
Outside of the side plot of the game even tho that is actually pretty awesome tha they found a way to bring this back to old school final fantasy with chaos the crystals and warriors of the light
(But that didn't happen yet)
But it's the reason why he even gets infected in the first place, with already Mako Poisoning in his vains.
We've all praised Hojo for his success with the women, but president Shinra is the real chad.
Nah Hojo got lucky and basically threw her away. President shinra was probably doing supermodels in his hayday😂
@@JKMlive President Shinra was quite hot af in his youth, just look his photo in the museum.
Watched this twice already, this is so well made, pez!
I also love all your theories, thanks for bringing so much information together from all kinds of side games and books. mind blown
big salute to the tin foil hat
Whoever touched Aerith, Cloud did, then whoever touched Cloud after that, they all managed to see these Whispers. The battle between Cloud and Rufus, probably caused the latter to be able see them...
Rufus being a Cetra, is so random...
I love it.
Cloud and Rufus brothers?! thats an idea that seems very plausible.
not its not a good theory and would make the story so much worse
Oh shut up, let people have their headcanons and theories. You don't like it, don't watch.
