1:32 I don't know if this is the first time the new Signature Move art has shown up in NL's StS but it's the first time I've noticed it. It was actually drawn by my friend Leto, which is cool.
Lately, during my own slay the spire runs, I've been hearing NL's voice saying, "honestly" a whole lot during difficult decisions. I've ended up dying about 60% of the time after following through with the honestly's lol
Here's a life tip, ESPECIALLY one for job interviews. When you start a sentence (a response in particular) with, "honestly...." it strongly implies that everything you have said up to that point was a lie. Ex. "So you like cars?" Love them "Oh, that's great! What was your first car?" 1994 blue Ford taurus "Oh sweet. Do you like working on cars?" honestly.... "Woah woah woah... you mean you didn't answer the first two questions honestly?" P.S. as you have quickly discovered, when NL says honestly, it's usually followed up with objectively wrong "opinions" on how doing something the wrong way is the best way to do it.

@@iami3rian394 Oh damn there's more? Guess it only makes sense that there would be way more submissions that don't end up making the cut. Gonna have to look those up.
Offense is definitely a more comfortable title than Defense - 35 minutes could yet be the win. We'll see if he overcorrects or not, though. Wishlist for NL at the moment: Upgrade Eruption early, mentally prepare for lethal in advance, not get too greedy with archetype chasing. Also, please calm down with always taking energy relics, they aren't always necessary. I've killed 3 elites in act 2 on Black Star. Act 1: - I generally think that NL overrates energy, especially on Watcher with ample access to energy via Calm and Divinity; that being said, Philosopher's Stone is a very solid roll early game outside of Hexaghost. Hopefully NL can use that to snowball. Other choice would have been 3x potion to hunt elites, IMO; fishing for like Hand of Greed is possible but not that helpful. - Personally like Flying Sleeves over Cut Through Fate, but that's pretty much just a matter of preference. - Rushdown is a great card, especially upgraded. - Gremlin Mask is absolutely horrible; I'd take the other one over it honestly. Losing a relic is one thing, but 1 weak on the start of the turn is really huge for any deck with significant burst potential (which pretty much all Watcher decks have). - Generally fine with the buys, but I think Signature move should have been considered with 4 energy. 30 damage is a lot, especially on Watcher with access to Wrath. Halt as well synergizes very well with Rushdown. - New Tantrum is much better than the previous one; not being able to leave Wrath the turn you played it was a death sentence in a ton of decks. I'd take it over Devotion here as well; it's still good early like old Tantrum but isn't (as) bad late anymore. - Some incredible relics for an offensive deck here. Especially with the Watcher's huge synergy with Strength - if NL can get a Wrath-focused Flurry of Blows deck, he could just run over the game. - Although doing the math seems like the "well, duh" thing, explicitly doing it out loud helps quite a bit in developing a sense for damage thresholds. - Empty Fist is almost essential in a Wrath spam deck in order to not get punished (as much) by turns where you can't quite get lethal. Definitely better than Follow Up, even with the Shuriken synergy. - Really think NL vastly overrates the amount of damage bosses will deal to him, but I will note that the Watcher generally has a much harder time defensively scaling than basically every other class. Still, Hexaghost is definitely not a resting situation above maybe 20 HP. Especially with Orichalcum. - Hey look, a scenario where stance removal would have been extremely good. Oh well, he still yeets on Hexaghost. - Signature Move, nice. Busted Crown, very much not nice. The thing was pretty much directly responsible for his last death, and he already has 4 energy and has an extremely offensive build. (It does also mean that there's a lot less I can talk about strategy wise...) Honestly I'd take Box here since NL has 2x energy. Act 2: - Unfortunately, NL gets 0 block in the shop. Gremlin Horn is fine, but NL's gonna have a ton of work to do to get enough mitigation for the boss. Maybe White Beast Statue actually could be better to fish for Dex Potions and Power Potions to just instascale? - Crush Joints is a bad take here; the vulnerability is very lackluster without lasting 2 turns and NL has bigger upgrade priorities; he also very much wants more blocking cards. I would grab Wallop here and call it a day. - You can really see how impactful the Gremlin Visage is here - NL could have easily killed 2 of them if he wasn't weak. - I tentatively agree with the rest there but you could very easily claim that it's the wrong choice. NL's gameplan is to nuke enemies before they even come close to touching him; with Fossilized Helix he can very easily do so. - NL absolutely can draft another Protect; by the nature of Retain having duplicates aren't as bad because they don't clog up draw as much. Plus, multiple protects are really good. - 3x Elites are very worth doing with a Wrath focused build. It's not that bad if you play aggressively and accept 10-20 damage in order to clean up the fight - or don't, even; NL does have lots of upgraded blocks. - Another lackluster Flow State draft. - Ritual Dagger is nuts on Watcher. It does need some stalling capabilities, but if you can you can do some insane stuff. I would honestly prioritize it over Lessons Learned. - Another situation where doing the math is highly sensible, that collector fight. He is right that it doesn't matter, but also it's only 70 damage, NL absolutely can burst that much. - Nl is absolutely right, Black Star is much better than Empty Cage here. Honestly, I've take Black Star the last 3 times I've seen it as the Watcher because of her insane elite hunting abilities. Establishment is like, whatever. Act 3: - Still has several issues with sustained block, which will become more severe considering the Time Eater's messing with draw. I think NL doesn't need the Sling as much as he needs the extra Protect, honestly. - I'm not sure if NL has ever played Flow State more than once in any given fight. - Brother, take the Mental Fortress. Please. It's so good. - Think an extra Sash Whip+ is good to actually have more damage mitigation. - Despite a ton of misplays on the fight itself, NL had already balled far too out of control with just basic stance manipulation and a trillion relics. That was honestly a good performance, even if he didn't go as aggressively as he could.
28:30 Mental Fortress! He changes stances often enough to make it work, AND he just got Mummified Hand, AND it was pre-upgraded, AND he wasn't fighting the Awakened One. Maaaan...
Unsure if NL realises that outlined cards will apply additional effects on subsequent use, e.g at around 10 minutes when crush joints was active but he neglected to use it until the end at which point it no longer provided vulnerability. Could just be indicative of Eggy's general lack of perception and assumptions as to what must and can never work leading to less acuity in observation and play (in other words, boomer)
@@SexyBibliophile yeah that's fair and I respect his decision to do as he likes, I'll sure as hell keep watching, just disappointing to see him achieve less than he's otherwise capable of y'know
NL, ever wonder why Lesson Learned seems to be your only way of winning? It's not just because it's a great card--it's also because it corrects one of your biggest flaws--you rarely upgrade. You often seem to feel the need to be at full HP going into boss and elite fights when really you don't usually need that, and if you risk upgrades more frequently you'll be in a position where you don't need to rest as often, which allows you to snowball into upgrading even more often. Notice how often your runs tend to fissle out and die around the end of act 2? A major reason for that is because you upgrade so rarely. Ideally, rests should be avoided as much as possible.
Waste of a card slot, if you ask me. You can usually get a stance-switcher pretty early on, so at that early point in the game, it's a safe card to ditch.
Good to see you getting rushdown into the deck, I think I would have liked the empty fist option to trigger more wraths for more draw, but overall being offensive looked to serve you pretty well
deva is a good option in most situations; it's great in combo decks and with unceasing top; you have 9 energy still with one card and unceasing top? *The wheels on the bus go round and round* i was also considering a deck that was; unceasing top + followup and fan, that sounds like it'd just be an ad infitum turn (except against the timekeeper)

he most likely doesn't understand it, and for a bit mantra was kinda meh (don't get me wrong divinity form is amazing) however, with the latest beta updates hoo boy, it makes mantra 10x better, mantra now gets carried over when it exceeds 10; so if you have 8+ mantra (using devotion) you have MULTIPLE turns of divinity (6, you get 2 turns of divinity after the 4th turn, 7 it's 3 after the 5th turn, 8 it's 5 starting the second turn of it, 9 it's 9 turns starting the second turn, and obviously at 10+ it's every turn)
