Amazing this was here to be filmed as the studios were nearly destroyed by a huge fire in the adjacent Woolworths store only a few weeks earlier, a fire which killed 10 people. At the beginning of the film you can see the store all boarded up and surrounded by scaffolding.
@rotonda4068 Opp.the steps was a small ante-room leading to Studio N. On floors above - radio studios, Studio P, Central Apparatus Room (CAR), standby AM transmitter, access to the roof to sit and have a sandwich on sunny days. In one of the radio studios we rigged up a table tennis table. We used one of CAR's rooms to make afternoon tea. The canteen stayed open til 7pm so could get a meal after the show - it was always comfort food. And the whole place had plenty of polished brass.
@rotonda4068 Well Studio N was about three times the size of a semi-detached house living room. It wasn't large at all but we did manage cookery demos, the odd band, and gardening spots. When you came out of the lift if you turned right you came to the newsroom, which had a small room with telecine in. To the left of the lift and left again there were a few steps to the bar with full snooker table, then toilets and the canteen. Instead of the steps going straight on was St.N gallery
@unhban Interesting! I remember me and a mate trying to get in one Saturday but being chased off by a security guard. I always used to wonder where things were located in that building as I always imagined TV studios where massive and I couldn't figure out where it could fit in that building.

@rotonda4068 Correct. Behind the set were boarded up windows. Also in the gallery, but one of them could be opened and there was a juliet balcony.
Didn't know the old studio N was in the boardroom of the bank. That would imply it was right at the front of the building, overlooking the Gardens?
