I have been breeding BSH for almost 9 years and one of my biggest challenges and frustrations still is finding good quality breeding cats. From the beginning I wanted the best quality possible and I have spent an enormous amount of money in cats that were not worth the investment. All of them coming from Europe from very well known breeders. I think the biggest problem is that most breeders don't select. I see all of them on Facebook advertising any kitten or all of their kittens for breeding. They also refuse to show real videos of the sire and dam. I don't trust anybody anymore. This is not just my opinion but also the opinion of several friends of mine who went through the same over and over. We now have decided to join forces and share between us our best offsprings to improve our breeding.

Oh so I have thoughts on this! Never import a cat you can see in person unless it gives you something you can't get locally. For me it has only ever been about getting a colour in. Hope that the rest of the cat will be good but be prepared to just get that one thing and move forward. Australia has some of the best British there is. We see importing as a status symbol. Its not. International breeders as very good at taking the perfect kitten photo. That doesn't translate into a good quality breeding cat. Get recommendations from visiting judges as to sho breeds good quality cats overseas. Ask breeder friends in other countries. Make friends and network. It leads to better results. For me I have been luck and the cats I have imported have had amazing temperaments and something to offer alongside some flaws that you will always find in newer colours. I have used my Australian cats to upgrade them :)

It is hard. It’s not easy to get started and the road can be a bit bumpy. 😀

Great advice, me and my wife just started Cattery this year. I want absolutely best cat for breeding. And absolutely no reputable breeder would sell me a cat within 200 miles. BUT main problem was they didn’t want more Cattery’s in there back yard.
So I drove 24 hours and picked up 1 male and 2 females absolutely gorgeous. The breeders never gave breeding rights away but because I lived so for away it wouldn’t affect them. And they really liked my wife she’s cat lady and Nurse Practitioner so in medical field.
One thing I don’t understand and you say a lot is talk to my association or you referring to CFA? This is who my cats registered threw I think there only one.

CFA if that is who you are with. There are a Few in the states. I am in Australia and we have a liot of state bodies and a few national bodies. There is also clubs and breed groups.

I've managed to put together a small group of breeders who have either sold me kittens or I've met them through other breeders who help me out without hesitation. Can't imagine how busy they are, I turned away two people for breeding cats just yesterday not to mention all the waitlist applications this week alone, and I'm not even expecting my first lot of kittens till later this year.
Would love a video on importing breeding cats

Oh that would be great to see a video on importing. I have my eye on a few breeders outside of the US but have no clue of the process.

    Hello 👋
I am new to breeding and I want to know if a female cat gets herpevirus or calcivirus would she be able to actually breed (when healed after 6 months) or is it best to get her a new home or just spray her? I cannot find answer to this question..
And ur content is awesome :)

Assume every cat you have has already got herpes. I do with mine as it is so widespread and it hides in healthy cats. It is like a cold sore in people. It can be dormant. So I assume that every cat I have including my girls has it. I have bred from cats that have had it yes. Some knowingly and some I just assume they must have had it as all cats have it. Never from a cat actively sick though. It is treatable with antivirals. Calici I have no experience of it no, its less and less common here. I would be guided by my vet if it came up. But a really basic answer is that if we desexed and rehomed every cat with herpes there would be not cats left to breed from. >>Check out my Stud Cats Mini Course, out now on my website www.catbreedingforbeginners.com :)
