  • Hawaiian Paradise Park is on the Big Island of Hawaii. It’s the second largest private subdivision in the United States and is almost 8 times bigger than the nearby ʻĀinaloa subdivision. The current population of HPP is steadily increasing and is now at half capacity with 15,000 residents in 3,600 households/4,500 housing units on 8,835 lots, all in lava zone 3. It’s a sizeable enough population to make “HPP” a quick identifier across the island and cause significant traffic congestion during daily commuting hours. The lots are primarily one acre parcels zoned for agricultural use but are mostly residential, all built on 400 year old lava flows. HPP is 4 miles long, 3 miles wide, and has 137 miles of roadways; a good percentage of them are unpaved and the USPS will not go down them which is why you see community mailboxes alongside the main roads. Everything is lush and green because the annual rainfall average here is 126 inches. Bonus! there were a couple of rare lenticular clouds out that day. The arguably most scenic section starts around 13:10.

    Hi Nick! I’m actually going to be staying in the area for a few days in a couple weeks. Just wondering if it’s okay to run on the side of the roads? I usually go for a couple of runs in new places just to get a better feel for the area I am in

    • @NHX610
      @NHX610  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I think this would be a great area to go running around on foot, yeah. There are a LOT of dirt roads going off to the sides that are just as pretty, but not paved. So..less traffic.
