- Dick Proenneke is famous for building a cabin out of handtools in Remote Alaska and documenting his whole journey through video and journals. His cabin was included in Lake Clark national park where dick was a park ranger at his own cabin once the park was constructed in 1980s. Our resort in Remote Alaska does tours to his cabin, and I got to tagalong for one of those tours.

I was lucky enough to finally visit in 2015 after seeing the documentary on PBS years ago. Absolutely breathtaking place!
Small world. Way way back I think around 1969 I wrote a letter to Babe Alsworth and of course sent it to Port Alsworth. Post master returned my letter saying write to Glen VanValin. I never did as my dream was to live in Alaska. Well, I have been here since 1976 . Always wanted to meet Dick and see his cabin. Never got the opportunity but still admire his skills . Live in Delta Jct these days.
I've read every book on Dick Proenneke . There's a creek close by called Hope Creek. To me you are practically a relative to Dick Proenneke. Your great grandfather had a very big role in his life and his story intertwines with Mr. Proenneke. Your resort is important cause it helps people get to his cabin. Mr. Proenneke in his autobiography had really only one nasty bear problem. He tried to break down his door. Dick decided he had to track him down and kill him cause he knew the bear for some reason was after him and would never leave him alone. Thanks so much for this wonderful video.
AWESOME, you went!!! So wild your grandpa is the one that brought supplies to him. Your family’s compassion and friendship is in that cabin, too. The metal cans he used. That’s from your family bringing him supplies!

I'm not into word working and camping or anything like that, but I watched an old documentary about Proenneke and i loved it!
You are so lucky to live in a place like this. From what I’ve seen in that video, I think I could live like Dick Proenneke. Living like this would be awesome and I am sure the rewards would outweigh the challenges.

What a beautiful place.
Thank you so much for showing the little cabin. I watched a couple videos of him building and living there. I think that started my interest in moving to Alaska one day. Wish I could get the asap!! Thanks for all your hard work on the other videos and sharing the Alaskan life with us :)

Love your videos , I lived in ft.wainwright Alaska for 3 years, its beautiful , but I'm a city girl , with the cold weather , I was happy to go home to RI yes we have the cold and snow here but not -60 degrees, lol , watching your videos has me surprisingly missing Alaska 😁 , again love your work very interesting

How far away is twin lakes from your resort?
What happens when a women goes into labor? Is there a small medical unit there or you have to get flown?
She has mentioned before that pregnant women have to actually move to Fairbanks a month before their due date and live there until the baby is born.
@@cl5470 Fairbanks !?!? NoOOoo. There's a reason they shop at Costco in Anchorage. To go to Fairbanks, you'd have to add on another 360 car miles or about a 45 minute flight on Alaska Airlines from Anchorage. I think you meant Anchorage. ✈
Real story, my cousin in Fairbanks had her last baby at home. Her water broke and the little guy wasn’t waiting. It was -50 f and she knew she had no choice, she didn’t want to risk having him on the way to the hospital in that weather. She talked her husband through what to do. Big thing in her favor is she’s a nurse midwife. She said, obviously she knew what to do, but never imagined she’d have to teach her husband on the fly 😂.

@@bearpawz_ She moved to Fairbanks after college because she was offered a position by one of the medical services. She gets flown out to several remote communities to provide services. She’s delivered several babies in remote locations. To be honest it’s only the last 100 years or so that most of us have been born in hospitals. Not that I’d want my wife or kids to have the extra risk.

If you were to damage the "tettering rock" it would be a criminal offense because it is in a National Park. There have been so many people who have done damage in our Parks 😢.
