I'm with Rick here. The different color floor tiles definitely came after our days (class of 2001 here). Most of the hall wasn't finished when I was at USNA.
Correct, you are a Plebe the entire first year. You shed the title of "Plebe" after the Herndon Climb! The difference is Plebe Summer is your typical military boot camp. Plebe Year is just the freshman year of your 4 years at the Naval Academy. Difficult academics, military obligations, and for many high level sport commitments as well!
Class of 79 plebe summer . Lecture on obeying legal and not Legal orders . “What if our squad leader marches us into the reflecting pool( now gone )” a plebe asked . “ That would be an illegal order and must be reported to me !” But when you come , you damn well better be wet …. “
