Artists regret recording or dislike some of their hit songs for several reasons. Sometimes, the artist no longer stands my the lyrics or message in the song, and in many cases, they never wanted to record the song to begin with. In many of these cases, they intended the song to go to a different artist, and ended up recording it themselves after no other artist took it. Some of the artists I'll talk about in the video include Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, Charli XCX. Nicki Minaj, Zayn, Lana Del Rey, and others!

I find it a coincidence that artists end up hating songs that either made them famous or becomes their signature tune sometimes I wonder do they end up hating it bc of how extremely popular the songs become and feel it overshadows other work they done they felt was better

I find it funny. The people who were already big before their signature songs always find those songs one of their favourites. The ones like Gaga, Katy Perry, etc always hate them because they hope those BIG songs are going to almost revamp their careers.

Completely shocked by Telephone. When it dropped, it was this massive, iconic, moment in pop history. It holds just as strong today, and I think the biggest reason is the collab with Beyoncé. Both were already icons when Telephone was released, but thinking about their careers SINCE then makes the pairing even more insane. They’re both perennial powerhouses, continually brilliant with every reinvention.
I guess you never know what’s going on behind the scenes. But I understand more after hearing what she said. I think this was around the same time she sustained the major injury that eventually lead to her drastic reduction in stage shows and touring. I can see why she emotionally relates the song/video with extreme burnout and doesn’t want to interact with it.
But, it’s still an amazing accomplishment. One day, I hope she’s able to see it the same way we do.

Maybe is the fact that she was about to release the album EP The Fame Monster when she collaborated with Beyoncé on VideoPhone (after Bad Romance came out) and suddenly had to add Beyoncé's new part to Telephone song, probably rushed the whole thing cuz the label and the release couldn't be pushed and you gotta send physical copies to stores in advance so I imagine being very stressful for her.
The major hip injury didn't happen until February 2013, touring with BornThisWay Ball Tour, she experienced so much pain during 2012 but didn't told anyone on her team, there's actual videos of her vomiting a lot while on stage (she would do it behind the stage and keep singing and dancing after) and fans spotted her leaving the show in a wheelchair, she also would sing a very depressing song about suicide live on the piano called "Princess Die" it's a very good ballad but very sad, this is around the time she told the label executives about her sexual assault at 19 years old (2005) but nobody did anything not even guided her to a psychologist, then she started experiencing full body pain and then went numb, all of this during her World Tour, after the surgery in 2013 because her bones literally shattered, her manager left her when she just released her first single Applause (talk about how 6 months after hip surgery she released a new album and a month later was dancing her ass off at the VMAs) I mean she never stopped but her mind was going crazy at this point, she got therapy after ARTPOP, although she later said by that time it was too late, she deals with many mental and body issues now. It's super sad everything that happened to her. 💔 She's the sweetest most loving person in the World and super talented and she deserved more than all the crap she went through in life and still goes through, I just hope she gets better and lives a long healthy life. 🙏🏻💖

I agree! I never took the song to be a promotion or romanticism for the violence in the lyrics. The way her voice changes when she says the line “loving you is really hard” like she had caught her tears in her throat is such a good delivery. I always saw the character singing the line about the hit as describing it as a kiss after the fact, like they’re trying to justify it and it is obviously not positive by the instrumentals and tone.

9:50 I totally understand loving the song and feeling hurt that Nikki doesn't feel the same, but considering the fact she was forced to release it, it's totally fair that she hates it. Even if she loved the song, the experience of having an unfinished project broadcasted around the world without any permission or warning would be enough to make most artists dislike a song. She already disliked it, and then all that happened, so I think it's completely unrealistic for her to not hate it. Especially when it's so beloved by her fans.

It was very much understandable the disdain feelings that she feels with the album because it inflicts a high degree of trauma for her to go through 😢. Personally, i love Warrior. I find it to be a notable step up from Animal with better produced songs and richer sonic experimentation on the production. Die Young, Wonderland, Only Wanna Dance With You, Supernatural and Love Into the Light are some of my most favourite songs from Kesha 💞.

Ironically Gaga's fav song off of Artpop is Jewels 'n Drugs, which is easily the most hated in the fandom (personally it' amazing idc)
    - Speaking of Artpop, the continuation of Telephone didn't happen bc it was for the song called Aura, which Gaga wanted as lead single (bc of the continuation obviously) but her label pushed Applause instead and so Gaga leaked the song herself on GagaDaily by the account named "boris" or "boris here" something like that.
    - The whole Artpop era was a mess and it's so sad bc Gaga had a vision and loved Artpop mostly bc of how terapeutic it was for her to make it, and overall is with Chromatica among best albums ever imo.
    - One thing i want, since this year is the 10th anniversary, is for Gaga to drop Artpop Act ll on November 10th

On the other hand of Ultraviolence, I always appreciated the lyric “he hit me and it felt like a kiss” because I always viewed it as a self aware reflection on how she used to view relationships, but has grown enough to look back on it and realize she’d been manipulated & ab*sed. I never viewed it as glamorizing ab*se but rather being honest about her former perspective. At least that’s how I interpret it. I understand why other people feel differently & that it can be triggering. But honestly if UV in particular is a trigger then I don’t think Lana is the artist for certain people. Her entire discography from day one covers themes of ab*se & toxic relationships. I believe she has & had every right to depict her experience that way, Lana has always sung about the ugly parts of life but presented in a beautiful way, her music elicits the feeling of epiphany & catharsis. Overcoming evil through art & beauty. Ultraviolence is no exception, a masterpiece of a song.
