It’s kinda crazy how much more in common gen Z has with boomers than anyone else. The whole “I paid money I can do what I want!” thing is 100% a boomer thing but it’s also a gen z thing.
I don’t wanna label an entire generation of acting a certain way but in my experience working in a movie theater, gen z is starting to act very boomer-ish. Generally speaking, they’re the ones making the biggest messes and being the loudest while the movie is playing (if y’all are the only ones in an auditorium thats fine but plz be mindful if there’s other guest)
But I feel like boomers became the way they are later in their lives, like they feel entitled because of their age and 'wisdom'. Whereas Gen Z were born that way?Their entitlement comes more from their opinions and views and not just Tiktok' but the Internet in general.
@@asia8001 Huge difference between fabric being thrown and a hard item that hurts when it hits skin. That's not comparable at all for you to shift the blame onto the artist for holding a bra and getting hit on the face with a phone.
I went to an orchestra earlier this year. And by nature the crowd SHOULDVE been silent but we had this group of high schoolers who didn’t have any parental figures around talking and laughing the entire time. It totally ruined the evening.
The ushers should have done something about that. Give them a warning, and if they continue, kick them out. I saw Tool at the United Center, we weren't allowed to record with our phones, and the employees of the venue would walk around and observe.
☹️ These people need to invest that energy into the Supreme Court judges who have systematically taken away their rights week after week instead of throwing phones at women who just want to do their job
@@puffball4484oh we know and we’re very much aware of how Scotus is taking rights away and generally handing really terrible decisions. We should have that energy for that and for the most part we do. That being said, we need to get some damn decorum and concert etiquette. I say we as in Gen z, we need to act right. A lot of us think acting up and throwing shit at people we paid to see is us being interesting or something when it’s just not cool.
Just a thought. Maybe people are acting up at these concerts because they know someone will record it and thus they could go viral on Tik Tok or twitter. Some people don't care what attention they get, if it's positive or negative - doesn't matter its still attention. Sad but true.
That is 100% what the line of thinking was in the Bebe Rexha case. The guy even said he thought it would be funny. I guarantee he figured that since Bebe gets made fun of/memed on Twitter and tiktok a lot that a video of her getting hit would be amusing and go viral. Fortunately people reacted differently and he got caught and is facing the consequences
This why there is a gap between Beyoncé fans and the stage nowadays. She doesn't get as close as she used to, we will never get "are you my husband...cousin" moment ever again.
omg yes, she used to bring people to the stage and even touch them and dance with them, I guess after that incident when one tried to kidnap her off the stage. she changed it.
Yikes! 😳 I didn’t know about that. I remember one video where a guy close to the stage smacked her butt - how incredibly aggressive and horrific. A few wackos ruin it for everyone. And as a billionaire with three kids to raise, I see why she’s keeping her distance from people who don’t know how to act.
Honestly, it‘s not just concert etiquette for me. I feel since Covid people have completely lost all human decency. Working in retail i wonder who raised these people because WTF 😤
@@ensulalachance8353In case you don't know, c0vid crosses the blood-brain barrier, just like sugar does and replicates there merging neurons, just like it does with every other cell in the body, just like toxoplasmosis makes mice don't fear cats, covid reduces cautiouness mechanisms and shrinks the frontal lobe and grey matter area, about a lotta of 10 IQ points is expected to happen, as a reference, working on a hot day, reduces the IQ about 10 points as well
People are nasty, with steve lacy,(idk if this is related like that) i think that is his name. People only came for a tik tok song, how are u gonna come to a concert and not know any artist songs, what is the point. I dont blame him for being angry at them, imagining working hard for this to happen
What happened to bebe is horrible. I hope that guy goes to jail. She's lucky she's not blind and I hope she doesn't have a TBI. Even a mild one can be life altering.
Interesting that that was the thing that made you realize lol. But anyways also pay attention to the fact that the "idols" these people act crazy over DO NOT CARE about anything that goes on in the audience. Despite the fact they can see everything from the stage
@@destini7that’s not entirely true. They may not have a clear view of large areas, especially when it is dark in the crowd and all of the light is focused on them and the stage. And they may not be able to here less exciting screams or yelling. Thankfully there are artists who notice and point it out to try and help. Remember the phrase “The show must go on”, they have to remain focused.
@@destini7 well not necessarily realize just seeing it happen in person bc I’ve seen it all around the internet w doxxing and death threats but for it to happen at a concert all for TRAVIS SCOTT is beyond me I like his music and all but that’s just ridiculous another thing that opened my eyes to how bad concerts can get is Woodstock 99
@MyaEboigbe yeah idk why anyone would do the crazy things that happen at these concerts. I know there's gotta be drugs & alcohol involved cause no way people are acting like this over these musicians
The concert etiquette thing is so wild to me, because in the crowds I circulate in (smaller alt & rock shows) I’ve never seen anything short of fun and respectful. The yelling thing is especially interesting and I feel it’s much more of a thing for larger concerts? My favorite concerts have always been those where everyone is dancing and singing/yelling right alongside the artist. That kind of energy is always just the best. That being said, in the shows I’m taking about it’s always been so loud that you can’t hear anything except the music. I’m going to a few larger shows this month though so I guess I’ll see if my theory that larger shows are more prone to these sorts of issues holds up. I wonder if it’s entitlement due to high ticket prices (or just in general) or if it’s simply that as crowds get larger, you’re more likely to run into people that don’t know how to act. Great video as always!
I went to one concert where it was supposed to be chill and we can sit and groove to the music, but someone in front of my mom and I stood up the entire time blocking our view. I understand trying to dance to our favorite songs, but don’t ruin it for everyone else who is trying to see. Not everyone has a good view from the get go. Also, some indoor stadium seats can be dangerous to dance by because you could fall.
It’s strange how quickly “concert etiquette” has changed in recent years :/ like I’m pretty sure for a LONG time now people have thrown things on stage but I feel like recently people are purposefully throwing things to hit an artist in order for clips to go viral or (in a weird way) they believe that because of that incident the artist will remember them forever. I don’t know, this reminds me of incidents in K-pop where the artist(s) will have a fan meet and really crazy “fans” will do anything AND everything possible, good or bad, for the artist(s) to have that moment memorized and remember that “fan”.
I think the main issue is how massively out numbered security is. Plus leaving the stage open could be even more dangerous so even if something happens right in front of them it can be difficult to break it up without leaving another open spot.
I used to think shows where it’s just general admission were better ‘cause you could have a better view of artist, but with the large amount of people blocking the view at times with their phones up, I actually now like the arena and stadium shows better. I like having my own seat better than being within the crowds anyways
Honestly I don’t see myself wanting to go to any more GA concerts after the ones I’ve already booked. Flo was my first GA concert post pandemic and me and my friend were literally like “good thing these tickets were $30 cause we couldn’t hear shit”
Thats the product of parents being like "let kids be kids, let them yell and scream in restaurants and cinemas" etc without having any regard for others and the society they live in. There is a time and a place for kids to be loud and run around free, like playgrounds, water parks, theme parks, family events etc.. but when you're in certain places that involves food or concentration (like a cinema or music), those are places to be quiet or at least considerate to the strangers around you.
If i was an artist, i would ban phones, and post the tour on a streaming platforms, no food allowed, only during the intermission, yes i will be a dictator of the music industry
Honestly, I would say no alcohol allowed either. I'd say 90% of the dangerous, disruptive, and rude interactions I've had with people at concerts have been because they were drugged up or super drunk. It just makes people's worst traits 10 times worse and it sucks for other paying concert goers to have to deal with the effects. At the very least, would put in a three ticket limit system like a lot of sporting events have. Sure there could be people who pregame, but I think it would help.
Everytime something like this happens I unfortunately remember Christina Grimmie's untimely death back in 2016. I don't understand why "fans" go beyond to extremes to see the people they supposedly love
For most concerts now, you have to bring in a clear bag. And then they check bags. Soon everything will be banned including phones. People need to stop but won’t.
I've never been to a real concert before so I can't relate to most of the experiences, but I don't understand fans who are screaming while the artist is singing to the point it's a nuisance to others. I mean I don't think the screamers themselves can even hear the artist's voice properly because of how loud their scream is. I feel like artists should do a Lorde "shh" moment once in a while, but that would only probably work in smaller shows.
I remember a few years back Justin Bieber got so frustrated with these little fan girls screaming their heads (other fans couldn't hear, Justin couldn't even hear himself). He repeatedly told them to please be a little quieter but they wouldn't listen. He got so frustrated he walked off stage
I was at the cure show in atlanta this last tuesday, and there were fans tossing flowers at Robert Smith, but he didn’t seem to have a problem with that. that’s because the fans actually GOT HIS ATTENTION FIRST before tossing the flowers at him, whereas with these fans, they are just throwing stuff for attention or because they think it’s “funny”. there’s definitely a difference between tossing a gift to an artist while they’re on stage performing, and just blatantly throwing things at them violently.
When you say the pandemic, you mean the virus of things around? Bc the virus has been people to affect the brain in a way you might doing more risky things
@@Timothyrpiano Lockdown in English meant you're not supposed to go out of your town right? I mean, you were not forced to stay at home, that only did happen in Spain and Italy... 🙄
The problem is that NO ONE wants to takes responsibility for this - security blames the audience, the audience get mad when the artist leaves cause they paid a bazillion dollars to only hear 3 songs, cause the artist has walked off, the artist blames the production company who's hired cheap/lazy security, who say "we aren't responsible for the actions of the crowd", meaning nothing will change. Unfortunately we need more naming and shaming by the artist to hopefully knock some sense into these morons, but even then I'm not so sure that would work :-(
I remember when I was like 8-10 I went to see the cheetah girls with two of my friends. There was a girl with her mom sitting behind us and when we started dancing her mom leaned over to my friend’s mom and said something about how her daughter couldn’t see the show (I was the tallest of the 3 and have curly hair) So the three of us rearranged where we were standing so she could see without any issue. I feel like nowadays somebody would’ve said something like “well this is her seat so..”
theres been a number of tiktoks of people at kpop concerts sneaking into different (better) section. my friend dealt with someone trying to steal her seat at a recent kpop concert
Saw Melanie yesterday with my boyfriend at Philly yesterday and they were handing out free water, someone begins throwing them, hitting my bf and then the workers began opening the water bottles before handing it out so ppl wouldn’t throw them :/ great show tho!
I went for Suga's tour in Singapore and honestly everyone on my side of the standing pen were so so respectful of each other and him. We actually looked out for each other, especially when one of them felt ill after standing for too long (it was maybe 1 hour waiting in SC then another 1 hr+ for the actual concert after soundcheck; couple of people fainted in the last 2 days because of exhaustion + heat). This was actually one of the more pleasant (standing pen) concerts I've attended. Livenation SG prioritised Soundcheck/VIP goers and randomised queue numbers to avoid the whole barricade queuing situation (which scared me A LOT looking at the US tour. I was genuinely worried being in standing). No one threw anything, when he came down from the stage performing D-day, no one touched him or grabbed him (the part when he took someone's phone and took a selfie/video). The lines (other than for merch lol) were really well managed, no one shoved and were in an orderly fashion. Livenation/Singapore indoor stadium had really strict rules on bringing professional cameras so it was really great to not have the large lenses blocking views etc. (At least on my side of the pen and what I saw). I think its so sad that concert etiquette needs to be explicitly written and its not a common/general understanding kinda thing. Look, we're all here because we love and support the artist. I wish we could also extend that respect and love to each other as well.
Its the sense of entitlement and attention of the fan’s behalf if I’m being honest. They would do something foolish like throw something on stage to make themselves visible for their fave.
I also want to add that the ticket scalping after the pandemic has come to an all-time high, so it's unfair to real fans who wish to attend but simply can't afford the tickets because they're being bought up and upsold with obscene price points. Some fans then try to save up for these high rising tickets, so there's already tension before they arrive at the venue for the financial hurdle they have to overcome just to get through the door.
Another heartwarming concert moment was fans singing Someone You Love with Lewis Capalldi when he was struggling with his set during Glastonbury because of his concert anxiety due toTurrettes
It's not as bad for some older acts and even rock gigs. But I avoid pop concerts like the plague. The behavior is unhinged with no regard for shared space, the people around you or the performer you're seeing.
Concert-goers/'fans' throwing objects towards the stage or acting up, are ruining experiences of fans that came to have a good time. Geez, this is the ghetto. 😮💨
That TikTok about how some people will act self-centered and entitled because of how much money they spent on a ticket has my blood boiling. That’s literal Karen behavior. I genuinely wish there more active consequences whenever we see people act obnoxious
Idk why so many people think this is a gen-z issue when people of all ages have gotten significantly less considerate. I think gen-z is more likely to at these concerts, so they are more likely to be an issue at them, but it's not just happening at concerts. Maybe it's just the area where I live, but boomers and Gen-Xers have completely forgotten how to act in stores. It seems like every other aisle is completely blocked by one person's cart and they are completely oblivious to the fact that there are other people in the store with them.
I adore Marjorie. It's such a beautiful song and it resonates with me because I too have lost my grandmother whom I was very close with. I love the idea of representing your own deceased loved one versus Taylor's grandmother whose picture is more than likely going to end up in the trash. If as a fan you are keeping, it's still such a weirdo move. I'm glad Taylor didn't take offense to it but it does come off as disrespectful in a way.
Social media or not people have been sneaking back stage whether it’s simply to meet folks, or bump uglies with and try to be directly associated in the artist(s) life for decades. It’s ridiculous how accurate that show Swarm is. It’s crazy the lengths people are willing to go to do the exact opposite of their goals and then get blocked and hated by their favorites. 🤧
The latest concert shenanigans I witness online was someone literally throwing their baby on stage on a NMIXX concert (K-pop, JYPE Group). That kid didn't even had earmuffs on, this reminded me of a underground metal concert that I visited at the beginning of the year where an person throw, like physically throw their toddler on stage. Well that kid had a fun experience it seemed, but it's crazy how far people would go to catch the attention of their faves. (No kids were visibly harmed it seemed)
I went to the When We Were Young festival and people were so rude. Folks kept leaning back as if we're all not shoulder to shoulder, multiple people from behind (including men much larger than me) pushed their way to the front and would bump into me HARD, a girl and her friend were moving from the front to the back holding hands and the girl in front used her WHOLE BODY WEIGHT to push me so hard that I nearly fell over (she never said excuse me and didn't even make an attempt to squeeze through - just bulldozed right into half of my body) and when my friend was getting overwhelmed I lead her to the VIP (we paid for it) and I did my best to say excuse me and weave through - there was a girl who was directly in my way and refused to scoot over after I said excuse me 3x so I just had to shove her out of the way. I didn't want to do that but she would not scoot over and my friend was getting anxiety from being too close and crammed so for my friend's comfort and safety I elbowed the girl out of the way. No, people are not exaggerating - concert etiquette has gone down after the panny. It's so frustrating
I was an avid concert goer before the pandemic, and I cannot believe people have to be told how to act at a concert. I’m going to my first concert since 2019 in a few weeks, I hope everyone who attends got the conduct memo!
And then when artists start only wanting to do virtual tours because of the disrespect they suffer from people like this people will complain and have the audacity to say something rude about them when they caused artists to not want to tour anymore. Not to mention the stress and exhaustion for an artist to tour. Halsey and Miley are some of the few individuals who don’t want to tour anymore and fans are mad but you have to understand it takes a lot of effort to perform 20 songs every day plus choreo and sleeping in hotels and riding in buses for almost a whole year. It’s exhausting
Thanks so much for this discussion Naomi!! As a near 60 years and with a non-visible disability, I tend to limit concerts to pre 2000s acts. Even then, there is no guarantee there won't be entitled or rude people present.
Thank you! And yes, I’ve gone to concerts for “older” acts before and they’re usually a lot more chill. And everyone is sitting down so I can sit down too and still see lol
It's a weird thing to do for sure, but given that the name of the Taylor song is "Marjorie" and it's very much about her, it seems like fans holding up those pictures was done with love. The same can't be said about any of the others acting out mentioned in this video.
I think it's messed up because you never know if she was in the right headspace to see her grandmother's pictures. I feel like one thing is HER singing about her grandmother and releasing pictures, and another is fans showing up with pictures for attention (cause c'mon people come with banners and posters to get noticed).
I've been a swiftie since 2007, and I've noticed a huge shift lately. It's absolute chaos, and a lot of it comes from newer younger fans. People think we're all children because they are on the internet being obnoxious and making us all look bad.
Project Marjorie in my opinion was a bit too invasive.. its cute that we started turning on our phone flashlights during the song which honestly looks so magical, but a PICTURE is very.. VERY.. invasive. This hasnt re-occured and thats good to know that swifties got the memo
I HAVE BEEN TALKING ABOUT THIS!!! people forgot how to act, but in my eyes it’s more that people no longer respect and revere stars like they used to, they all feel like they are the main event, and the people on their social media is the real audience. No one gives energy back to the artist anymore. I saw GRACE EFFING JONES recently and screamed my head off. No one was dancing, no one was screaming or clapping or singing, and if you know Grace Jones, you know that she already has more energy than most 20 something’s, and she’s almost 80! I was appalled, my friend just kept taking videos of herself the whole time. Also I went to Coachella recently and no one was singing to Becky G, Bad Bunny, Gorillaz, Karol G, etc. it was so embarrassing, and I had to do so much just to let the artists know someone was alive in the audience. I used up all my energy the first day because it felt like there were no actual music fans there, just influencers(?) and wannabes. It’s a bummer. If I were bad bunny or Becky G, I would never come back to Coachella if the audience is going to be asleep the whole time. Edit: EVEN ROSALÍA!! Like come onnnnn 🤦🏽♀️ Edit edit: I forgot about when I got stampeded and trampled when people rushed to see Billie Eilish. The kids who helped me up were so sweet though.
I saw BTS in 2019 at MetLife Stadium for both nights and it was one of the most eye opening concert going experiences I had ever witnessed. Everyone worked as a collective to make the experience unforgettable for each other and for BTS. ARMYs were handing out homemade freebies, taking care of each other, helping each other with merch orders, and had a sense of duty to maintain order. They even made sure to clean up all their trash and the stadium (besides the confetti) was left nearly spotless. I had never in my life gone to a concert where ANY of that happened, especially cleaning up after yourself or others. I learned quickly that it was because the fandom held itself to an incredibly high standard of collectivity that they adopted from the Korean and Japanese parts of the fandom. Of course there are some people like aggressive fansites and sasaengs that threatened the fan experience, but overall ARMY acted as a well-oiled machine. There was a mindset of 1) making BTS proud to have the best fans in the industry 2) making them feel safe to tour 3) giving them a reason to come back and 4) protecting their and the fandom’s reputation. ARMY did NOT want BTS to see them in the news for acting up, and the members always hint that regardless of language barrier they see *everything*. Even during their PTD concert series in America during 2021 this attitude was maintained, but we saw too many people throwing flowers or stuffed animals on stage trying to have their “Your name“ moment. Their staff had to start including a message before the show began to not throw objects on the stage and Namjoon had to state it a few times himself that it was dangerous to for them and their crew. But I also remember during the first concert at SoFi stadium that when the severely understaffed security were too overwhelmed with 50k+ fans at their gates, gave up, and it almost became a dangerous situation that ARMYs self-regulated. They formed orderly lines, enforced the mask requirements for themselves, and made sure everyone could make it into the stadium safely. It wasn’t until the early dates of the Suga|Agust D tour that we really noticed a shift in the fandom with what was once our well established concert etiquette. It seemed like newer fans didn’t know how we got down and that pushing, shoving, being self-interested, being rude to other ARMY, and being rude to any venue staff wasn’t tolerated. However, I did go to the Prudential Center date in NJ. It was freezing, raining, merch lines were unnecessarily long because of poor and stubborn planning by venue staff, and with the merch line being a 💩 show, the other lines were too. Venue staff were rude without provocation, and with newer entitles fans with poor behavior, the conditions were set for a mess to be created. Even when we arrived to the venue and door were opened, my friends and I got in quickly after they opened up two side doors because concert time was minutes away, while hundreds of others had been stuck trying to get themselves through the three doors for well over an hour (and in the rain). It possibly got better as the tour went to other states, but my god that was a very ridiculous and embarrassing situation that didn’t have to go down the way it did as long as everybody played their part.
I was in NJ too. And tbh I was there in the morning, ARMY were very organized in the morning until a staff memeber came out of nowhere and broke up fan formed lines, throwing everything at a disarray. ( I remember her yelling and screaming at us and ARMY tried to hear her so we moved closer and it added more chaos.) VIP were not let in by rude staff and I even remember seeing the security sitting inside laughing at us freezing outside and even spewing misogynistic things. I remember the VIP (people who should be inside hours before for sound check) were still outside and their line did not move a bit for an hour (i saw a staff member literally trying to close the door on them). Don't even get me started on the security check. It made me mad cause that week Prudential held a sports event but they weren't treating the people like that. I think it's parts of poor Prudential staff management, people trying to get inside so they won't freeze in the rain and no lines and barricades being put in place.
@@melhope1771 Yes! Their staff was extremely nasty and treated every line like “stupid, obsessed k-pop fangirls”. It almost felt like they were trying to see just how long ARMY would struggle in the freezing cold so they could point, laugh, and degrade fans. This would have never happened to sports fans. Too many men for that. My friends were in the merch line for 7 hours and I think only two or three people were at one table handling sales for thousands of people? When they finally got inside the doors they were pushed out by some a-hole for no specific reason other than “I said so”. It wasn’t crowded inside, it didn’t make the line any more orderly, and it caused confusion. They were back outside for almost another hour because of that person. It was so mentally and physically draining for them that they could barely stand during the concert. I’ll never go back to the Prudential Center for any reason. I’m just waiting for Big Hit to send me my concert survey. I’m really sorry for anything that you may have suffered through during that day 💜
@Jess1013 I'm sorry too, we both went through a lot 🫂. Me and my friends also blacklisted that place forever. We were also in the merch line that's why we were there early morning. I can't blame ARMY for not having concert etiquette (except the fansites/rude people), when a lot of the problems were because of the venue staff that day. I already wrote a looong essay to prudential as a review, I'm also waiting for my bighit survey to ask them to never book that venue again.
It's so weird seeing how different places are apparently experiencing different shifts in culture at gigs, I'm from the UK and I was totally shocked by how subdued the crowds seemed compared to pre-pandemic. I live in a major city, I've been to several different concerts in several different venues, different genres, different age groups...it was dead! So many people just standing around drinking and chatting like they were at the pub. Very little dancing or singing (which felt weird because singing along is a Big Thing here), just not much of a vibe at all. Maybe I've just been unlucky?
I'm also in the UK and I'm not experiencing the same thing. I go to alt gigs and it seems like the younger ones never learned how to behave at gigs and the 30ish crowd have forgotten. People are acting out for their viral moment, they don't know how to behave in a pit and they won't put their phone down even though their constant screaming and jumping means that their footage is pointless anyway. I go to concerts to see the performer, not the audience, so maybe I should be where you are.
My sister & I recently went to a Jill Scott concert at the Hollywood Bowl. The people behind us just talked the whole concert. Then they progressively got louder & louder. It was really annoying.
Yeah this is actually why I’m scared to go to a concert as much as I love to see artists live like Taylor swift, Beyoncé, Madonna, Janet Jackson, FKA Twings, etc the introverted anxious side of me would both terrified and annoyed by the outrageous behavior of certain fanbases especially the entitlement these fans and stans like yes you paid money but that doesn’t give you the right to be disrespectful or have respect for both the artists and others who paid for the same experience. I also think a-lot of people truly don’t see artists/performers as actual human beings and simply as entertainment for their personal pleasures/preferences so the entitlement feels like “well they are celebrities I don’t have to act like a regular human being” My heart goes to bebe I pray she recovers from that bruised eyes soon and that idiot get charged and have a permanent restraining order against bebe as well who throws at a phone at a artist performing and think it’s funny?
I mean rap concerts at clubs were always problematic too with the fact a lot of the time people usually get stabbed, shot near them or trampled at them which really shouldn't be the norm but it is with some artists; generally the male ones though.
While music festivals are different than individual concerts, they are why I am afraid to go to concerts. Trigger warnings for sexual assault. I keep hearing these horrifying stories of people, women or minors being sexually assaulted at these concerts. With limited security, because the founders of these concerts underestimate the number of concert goers, it is amazing what people could get away with. I forget the band who did this, but they witnessed a sexual assault happen and stopped their concert to call these guys out and make sure this person gets kicked out. Forget if they demanded an arrest. I am glad the band did not just let this happen. These festivals also involve heavy drinking, medical issues due to dehydration, and lord of the flies behavior. I have another fear, but won’t say it out of fear jinxing anything before going to a concert in 2 days.
I heard of incident the other day where a country singer named Kelsea Ballerini has a bracelet thrown right into her face at concert. She wasn't hurt but I'm shocked that people think throwing solid objects at artists is a good idea, especially at their face.
I went to multiple concerts (from heavy metal to pure pop) before the pandemic and NEVER EVER saw what I’m seeing these days on social media. Like WHAT THE HECK are they thinking!? Throwing a phone? YOUR MOM’S ASHES!? Seriously, some people are insane
You hit the nail on the head about the parasocial relationships. In general I'm just noticing a lot of young, first time concert goers seemingly having no idea what to expect. They're on TikTok complaining that they could hardly see from the standing area they paid a premium for, saying the crowd of 10k are lame because they weren't as loud as videos they'd seen of 50k capacity stadiums, or saying that everyone who bought seats should be standing, etc. It's weird.
Honestly these aren't fans, cuz real ones wouldn't wanna hurt their favorite singer🙄🙄I've never been to a concert but i would never want to throw something like what's the point? Also i feel bad for Steve Lacy cuz I've been around since "Dark Red," "Some," "Playground," and more but to have tiktokers not know a global hit is disrespectful 🙄🙄 Also not my man Suga 😭😭😭He's my bias and wow that's ridiculous how they acted like some of us can't even get in a concert and would act way better than them🙄🙄
omg fansites at concerts... I saw Loona in NYC last year (lined up at 3am.. i dont wanna talk about that lmao) and i was 2nd row pit but OFC there was one in front of me with his big ass camera I could barely see.. I was sooo excited and I tried to enjoy it as much as I can but honestly that really spoiled the experience for me especially having waited so long :/ These fansites go to EVERY tour stop front row too which is extra annoying like let other people enjoy the show too. I totally understand they are important for documenting purposes and for others who aren't there but there has to be some sort of middle ground
great video. i think a few of these etiquette rules can change from place to place, like it might be a culture thing. in my country, we usually sing from the top of our lungs, scream a lot and dance. but i've seen people from other countries/cultures complaining about it and saying that it's weird if we're louder than the artist and that we should be quieter or not even sing at all. meanwhile, we think the opposite. if you're not singing, screaming and dancing, then you're not enjoying yourself. anyway, i think that as long as we don't disrespect nor cross anyone's boundaries, we can all enjoy concerts in our own ways. also, let's just stop throwing things around at concerts, cuz if the artist happens to accept a gift once, people will start to think it's ok to keep throwing gifts at them and it all just gets messy and dangerous. we've seen it happen during bts' ptd on stage era, where people kept throwing a bunch of stuff at them (i remember it being stuffed animals, could be wrong tho) and hitting them. let's NOT do that. to anyone. and if you bring a lightstick with you, dont swing it hard, back and forth above your shoulder level. i saw a video of someone swinging their army b0mb at yoongi's concert and almost hitting the person behind them on the head multiple times, that's terrifying.
Sometime in the mid to late 2010s, I went to a Deftones concert with my boyfriend. And when the lead singer, Chino Moreno, crowd surfed, someone thought it was a brilliant idea to bite his neck really hard. He complained about it and continued to rub his neck until the end of the concert. I thought it was a pretty uncivilized thing to do, idc if it was a rock concert. Show some manners!
I am not a concert goer at all, I find it exhausting and cannot match the energy of the crowd. I would like to be able to put up with it to hear some artists perform live, but no matter the genre, I can’t stand being apart of the crowd. The 7ft tall people will stand in front of everyone, everyone is dead silent and unresponsive to openers, and people have casually, in their greatest performance as an innocent bystander, will LEAN on me just to take video of their fave. I’d pay big bucks for a virtual concert at this point.
Honestly, I do agree the Marjorie thing is weird. The parasocial relationship between swifties and Taylor needs to be studied tbh I feel like not even Kpop stans are that emotionally invested in their fave's personal life.
I went to an Ava Max concert in Atlanta recently by myself and I got irritated ‘cause this guy I met before the show was pushing an agenda onto me. 🙄 The security also got on my case because I was jogging down to the stage
I'm so glad you brought up the mitski situation, the blatant self entitlement and to use a persons disability as an excuse to have your flash on during the entire show is wild
I was at the Agust D concert at the prudential center!!! and can confirm that there were weirdos but to me its the prudential center staff and organization of it all, every show I've been to there, there's no set lines for where to go which section etc etc, the staff are rude and act like this is the last thing they wanna be doing (helping you) and yea I don't wanna work too but we're confused and frazzled and anxious just throw a bone yk? At that show people sitting in the upper levels had to take the tiny ass elevator up and they wouldn't let ANYONE take the stairs it was horrendous because Yoongi starts ON time and they made hella people late to seeing the first song.
this is crazy to me bc a lot of rock concerts are gen admission only and moshing/movement/pushing is expected. from my experience, there’s always a really strong sense of community and there is etiquette for which parts of the floor it’s accessible to mosh in. as someone who is shorter, i’ve had taller people willingly switch spots with me so i can see, and the few times i’ve accidentally ended up in the mosh pit, i have had people help me get out of it safely or pull me up when i fell on the floor. one time i passed out during a super hot outdoor concert and the person behind me caught me so i didn’t fall. people also do NOT tolerate anyone who’s acting out, and they will call out anyone who goes too far (like intentionally punching people while moshing)
I've brought fake flowers for some of my favorite artists to toss onto the stage, and I've had incredible experiences with them picking up my flowers to hold them through a song. I'm so sad that people are throwing stupid stuff, or poorly throwing other things, ruining it for people like me who are very careful and never aim at the artist 😔
If they’re front row or really close to the stage, I honestly don’t see an issue with TOSSING, not throwing small items on a stage🙄🤦🏾♀️ fans or shall I say grown Adults who have and use common sense 😂😂, have been tossing small items from the front row of a concert FOR DECADES and I’m 42 and can attest to this🤷🏾♀️😂😂 Women have thrown panties and shirts at MJ concerts🤷🏾♀️😂😂I’ve thrown panties on a stage for Plies but I was in the very front row and I wasn’t trying to take his ass out like this newer generation 🙄🥴🤦🏾♀️😂😂 ppl have carefully thrown letters, clothing, it’s really not what you do but HOW you do it but this is simply my OP🤷🏾♀️
but why toss flowers onstage in the first place? just cause you get a quick moment of connection or acknowledgment from the artist? I swear, everyone these days is just doing the most to feel special at concerts. it’s bordering on narcissistic
@@kruggyy What a nasty way to view it. How is it narcissistic to want to connect with someone in such an innocuous way? Is it narcissistic to leave flowers at someone's grave? Flowers have been thrown to performers for decades, it goes back to classical ballet performances, opera etc. - it's lasted that long because performers clearly appreciate it and show that by picking them up. I'd personally love it if someone tossed flowers to me on a stage. They're also pretty hard to hurt people with - they'd disintegrate if you chucked them too hard. Flowers show appreciation, while the fan examples in the video do the opposite, so why put it in the same boat?
I'm in my 60's and still have concert PTSD from the rock shows I attended. Having to dodge somebody puking all over you, getting smushed in the front, getting clobbered in the head with a full beer bottle, M-80 caps tossed in the crowd, men/boys peeing off of the balcony.....ah, the good old days. And I MISS them!
This has always been a thing obviously but it’s gotten worse most definitely. I haven’t been to a concert in a few years now but the last one I went too was a Melanie Martinez concert and that was in 2017-18 can’t remember tbh lol, but I was at the barricade and these two girls next to me were just CONSTANTLY pushing me and the people around us. My sister heard them talking about spitting gum into my hair bc it was “blocking the view”… literally in a low ponytail and they were directly NEXT to me at the barricade, like girl?? And then their friends pushed through everyone to get to them, getting ppl upset and causing them to push back but they somehow got up to the 2 girls and once again with the pushing. It was nonstop from the group of girls, it genuinely felt like being thrown into a mosh pit unsuspecting ( which has happened before to me & I got throat punched 😭 ) from the way this group pushing lmao. And then once again with the gum, one of their friends was shorter than me and happened to end up kind of behind me but not directly, and the 2 original girls brought up to spit gum at me and before I could do anything my sister elbowed the girl and yelled at her and her friends. They got embarrassed and stopped (until the last song came on that is🥴)
I was at the eras tour nashville night 2 (the night after the marjorie pictures) and no one brought pictures just held up flashlights. so it didn’t go any further
i was at the prudential to see agust d that day & it was truly horrible 😭. people camping, when they opened the doors everyone started running at full speed even across the street during TRAFFIC, i saw someone lose their glasses and then the random wristbands. staff said they were doing it randomly to “punish” people for running & left us in the rain w no info for hours.
I haven’t had great experience at concerts in the past few years. The people at Sabrina Carpenter’s show were mean and pushy. My group got split up in the crowd because of it. At Harry Styles in late 2021, the girls in front of me were so drunk and messy that they were disrupting the experience of the people around them. They kept throwing their feather boas around, hitting people including me repeatedly with no regard, and they kept filming themselves, not the show, through the whole show. I went to the Eras tour in May and there were some issues there too that I’ve never experienced at Taylor shows. the fans who’d ask to “trade bracelets” and take one from us just to be like oh yeah I don’t actually have any to trade, the people on the floor behind us who kept pushing forward like it’s a pit even though their are rows of chairs (causing one of them to spill her drink over all of my stuff) and the mom and dad with floor seats in front of me who brought two children and let them stand on the chairs. One of them, the one in front of me, was about my height without standing on the chair, so when she did no one around us could see. The girl behind us told the girl to get down so the mom glared at me thinking it was me, and then when they got to the girl’s favorite song in the show they put her up on the chair OF THE PERSON IN FRONT OF THEM. She also filmed the entire show, every single song, on her phone.
Music doesn't means the same anymore. People don't know how to love and respect this form of art. Yes it's a business with a lot of money but it's also an art. If i was an artist i would not perform anymore. I would not make music. I would choose another thing to do with my Life. Making music is a waste of talent and time these days. Unfortunately that's what it seems. Ps the situation with Bebe Rexha really makes me feel so angry. I have glaucoma and anything that can hurt the eyes makes me really mad. I don't understand how someone does this to another person and thinks it's ok...
Honestly this so sad 😢 There are a lot of attacks on performers in the Balkans recently too… No matter the performer or country, It’s disturbing that people are paying tickets to attack someone who is trying have give a good time performing or just being in the audience.
About that “I paid $200 so I’m gonna do what I want”- I’m perplexed that part of the generation that clowns on Karens and claims to be so cognizant of service workers in many ways kind of models this. I see frankly little difference between that “I spent money here so I will do whatever I want” and “I’m a paying customer so you have to take my abuse” except who is on the receiving end of the mistreatment
I went to many concerts as a young child i would never go to a concert now as an adult. People don't seem to understand that concerts are a privilege every part of it is a privilege. You can get that privilege taken away if you act a fool. I am also gen z in their early 20's. This behavior is going to change concerts to be more restrictive which is sad because my favorite one was an older band that I could dance on the grass. I can't imagine doing that now
The difference between the way people act at concerts before and after COVID at least in LA is soooo noticeable. The only time where you don't have people pushing on you, past you, bumping into you, acting obnoxious next to you or in front of you after pushing past you, being TALL and pushing in front of you completely ruining your's and everyone behind you's view is at a venue when there are like only 50 people. And even still there's a high chance of people still acting this way. And because it's so common now to act this way, it makes it easier for people to sexually assault you. One time I had someone cut in front of me then start groping me. And there was nothing I could do besides leave my spot three rows down from barricade. I have had people spill drinks on me and knock me so hard I spill my own drink on me too. I miss pre covid concert etiquette :( And another thing too is people who aren't even huge fans of particular artists jacking up the prices like the Steve Lacey situation, or SZA. Where there r huge pockets of NOBODY singing until the tik tok famous songs come on. Like at least dance along to the music! Its so weird being the one who feels awkward for dancing and singing along. It drives me crazy cause the tickets they buy are like hundreds of dollars. Like those ppl r probably why Doja cat's tickets $120 for the CHEAPEST nosebleed seats.
Did people lose etiquette and decorum during lockdown or something? Like the amount of footage I’ve seen of ppl being disrespectful to fans, artists and just a general nuisance is shocking…like at the very least have some shame and stop acting like an animal.
another great vid Naomi!!! 🙏🏻💞 as a zillenial, it is weird to see how entitled people are when going to concerts. I went to Coachella W1 for the first time this year and being semi close to the front of the main stage was not a good experience for me by the end of the nights. People shove and don’t say excuse me. I’m more of a raver where PLUR (peace, love, unity, respect) is a known thing in the rave culture. Even though ppl are under the influence at music festivals, I feel more respected at raves than I ever did at Coachella. There’s a culture of teaching younger ravers PLUR, checking on your friends, and making sure you’re safe if you’re participating in any substances/even alcohol. Even thought people shouldn’t rely on others to have fun, I feel like it’s the collective respected experience that makes events like concerts and music festivals more enjoyable. It’s like you can feel the entitlement (I feel like millennials can relate to this more) when people started to use their bright ass phone screens in movie theaters and talk a lot during the movies when that wasn’t really a thing before the mid 2010s. It’s really embarrassing for people to be so entitled and ruin collective experiences for everyone honestly.

It’s kinda crazy how much more in common gen Z has with boomers than anyone else. The whole “I paid money I can do what I want!” thing is 100% a boomer thing but it’s also a gen z thing.
As a gen z myself, true
😂💯
Fr, the parallels between the two are crazy😭
The Bebe Rexha situation had me SHOCKED. The audacity of some people.
That one was insane to me bc there’s no way it was an accident or intended to be anything but disrespectful

Wow how absolutely disappointing 😢
The ushers should have done something about that.

Just a thought. Maybe people are acting up at these concerts because they know someone will record it and thus they could go viral on Tik Tok or twitter. Some people don't care what attention they get, if it's positive or negative - doesn't matter its still attention. Sad but true.
Yes so many ppl just want their 15 minutes no matter how they get it
That is 100% what the line of thinking was in the Bebe Rexha case. The guy even said he thought it would be funny. I guarantee he figured that since Bebe gets made fun of/memed on Twitter and tiktok a lot that a video of her getting hit would be amusing and go viral.

@MyaEboigbe yeah idk why anyone would do the crazy things that happen at these concerts. I know there's gotta be drugs & alcohol involved cause no way people are acting like this over these musicians
My mom saw the Beatles a couple of times and said she couldn’t hear anything 😂 except girls screaming
Really, I was like “I can’t believe people actually act like this” until I saw it for myself
I remember when people would go to a concert, and actually watch the show, live in the moment, without a cellphone in their hands.
I think the main issue is how massively out numbered security is. Plus leaving the stage open could be even more dangerous so even if something happens right in front of them it can be difficult to break it up without leaving another open spot.
Yes I think more security would be good! And hey it would create more jobs!

Very much this- childhood should be fun and carefree but parents do still need to teach their kids time and place
If i was an artist, i would ban phones, and post the tour on a streaming platforms, no food allowed, only during the intermission, yes i will be a dictator of the music industry

I don’t get it either! Like “oh they sound so good I’m going to make it impossible to hear them?” Idk

Yup- entitled behavior in general is getting outta hand
I also want to add that the ticket scalping after the pandemic has come to an all-time high, so it's unfair to real fans who wish to attend but simply can't afford the tickets because they're being bought up and upsold with obscene price points. Some fans then try to save up for these high rising tickets, so there's already tension before they arrive at the venue for the financial hurdle they have to overcome just to get through the door.
Another heartwarming concert moment was fans singing Someone You Love with Lewis Capalldi when he was struggling with his set during Glastonbury because of his concert anxiety due toTurrettes
so glad my anxiety prevents me from experiencing this shit
It seems like every other aisle is completely blocked by one person's cart and they are completely oblivious to the fact that there are other people in the store with them.
true
When they start putting plastic barriers in front of the stage soon.... I wouldn't be surprised
Like come onnnnn 🤦🏽♀️
Edit edit: I forgot about when I got stampeded and trampled when people rushed to see Billie Eilish.
( I remember her yelling and screaming at us and ARMY tried to hear her so we moved closer and it added more chaos.)
VIP were not let in by rude staff and I even remember seeing the security sitting inside laughing at us freezing outside and even spewing misogynistic things.
I also think a-lot of people truly don’t see artists/performers as actual human beings and simply as entertainment for their personal pleasures/preferences so the entitlement feels like “well they are celebrities I don’t have to act like a regular human being”
My heart goes to bebe I pray she recovers from that bruised eyes soon and that idiot get charged and have a permanent restraining order against bebe as well who throws at a phone at a artist performing and think it’s funny?
I mean rap concerts at clubs were always problematic too with the fact a lot of the time people usually get stabbed, shot near them or trampled at them which really shouldn't be the norm but it is with some artists; generally the male ones though.
why are people spending all this money to see artists just to throw stuff at them…? Concerts are NOT cheap.
That’s what I’m wondering! Paying to commit crimes and ruin everyone’s time
While music festivals are different than individual concerts, they are why I am afraid to go to concerts.
It’s crazy that ppl pay so much money for concert tickets just to act a fool like if you end up getting kicked out, you basically wasted so much money
It’s stupid to waste money by getting kicked out of a show. I hope this doesn’t push artist into wanting to do virtual concerts
Yeah that’s what I’m not getting- you paid to get kicked out and maybe arrested
Also i feel bad for Steve Lacy cuz I've been around since "Dark Red," "Some," "Playground," and more but to have tiktokers not know a global hit is disrespectful 🙄🙄
Also not my man Suga 😭😭😭He's my bias and wow that's ridiculous how they acted like some of us can't even get in a concert and would act way better than them🙄🙄
I swear, i love the way you explain your opinions. I could listen to you all week. Keep the good work Naomi!
Totally agree 😊
Same here she has such a relaxing tone of voice lol
Thank you so much♥️ really love and appreciate your supportive comments
omg fansites at concerts...
What the HELL
@@naomi.cannibal my thoughts exactly
Just don't throw anything on stage while an artist is performing. Sing along, cheer, and just take in the performance/experience.
@@mrssuchafknladyy2078 Unless they're a pervert artists don't want your panties. There's been people saying "stop" for over a decade.
Some people just want to be reposted on Twitter
They got embarrassed and stopped (until the last song came on that is🥴)
This needs to be said: Your videos are QUALITY! They're fun, well-researched and well-edited and you are putting them out like clockwork 😍 Keep it up
Thank you so much 💕
I was at the eras tour nashville night 2 (the night after the marjorie pictures) and no one brought pictures just held up flashlights. so it didn’t go any further
i was at the prudential to see agust d that day & it was truly horrible 😭. people camping, when they opened the doors everyone started running at full speed even across the street during TRAFFIC, i saw someone lose their glasses and then the random wristbands. staff said they were doing it randomly to “punish” people for running & left us in the rain w no info for hours.
Why are they attacking our Albanian girlies😢
Honestly this so sad 😢
There are a lot of attacks on performers in the Balkans recently too…
No matter the performer or country,
It’s disturbing that people are paying tickets to attack someone who is trying have give a good time performing or just being in the audience.
This whole entire Bebe and Ava thing gave me flashbacks to when someone gave a whole BABY to a NMIXX member
I miss pre covid concert etiquette :(
And another thing too is people who aren't even huge fans of particular artists jacking up the prices like the Steve Lacey situation, or SZA.
Yeah that’s honestly what makes me not want to ever go to Coachella. Seems like a fun bucket list experience but I know I would have a terrible time
