The Reaves and Jeannot suspensions are total bullshit. The suspension system is wrong. These guys should get the same amount of time suspended, as the number of games and days it takes for the player they injured to return to the game. Estimates are that Nurse could be out for 10 days, and Boeser is already 4 games and could be 5 and maybe 10 like Nurse too. Jeannot only got 3 games. If the NHL wants to stop these incidents, they have to get tougher.
I still don't understand how George Parros, one of the biggest goons ever to play the game, is in charge of player safety. The department always officially talks about past behaviour and intent, but I think it just comes down to Parros thinking "oh, I did worst than that in my day, so only 3 days"
I have confidence in Allvin taking care of things on the trade front, with the job he's done over the last year, but it's the guys currently in the dressing room that need to step up and start games on time. I could stand the salary cap going down if we could get rid of all the gambling ads. No gambling ads and announcers talking about game odds, as lead in for gambling ads, is the best part of the Amazon broadcasts.
Last year, many games were won in the last minutes of games. In other words, by the skin of their pants. Demko was one factor that kept the team in a game. Leki is doing a great job this year. Coaching changes, many player changes have impacted the team play, along with injuries. Many adjustments to juggle. Now i have to say, it seems like head coach is expecting all players not only to know his system, but to slot themselves in where other players were last year. Seamlessly. To me, its like coach said, i told you what to do, now do it. Likewise, it is more evident that his style is “my way, my play, forget who and what you did before in getting here”. And he told the whole league and fan base what his system is so others can counter it. His success from last year seems to be expected, without starting like a new coach again, which he is to so many new team members, players and coaching partners alike. Then there is play making bonding before flickering lines throughout and between each game. Playing styles, coaching styles. Favourites. Irritants. Finally, a coach certainly should talk with team members about poor attitudes or play, but not in the media to excuse or make yourself look good. Remember, the Oiler coach came in cold, late in season, and did a phenomenal job with that team. You are not the Canuck hockey God. Many things were in play and place for you to sweep in with “coaching genius”, which seems to have waned across many facets this year. There is always work and integration to do. Moreover, coaching, managing, playing, is a whole team game for success. It is constant work, development, and evolution. Count the number of major changes there are this year, including the fact that you are no longer new, but that you do not have the same whole package team as you began with last year. Learn with each other. Watch. Listen. Bond. Play.
Next game. Then back on the road. Demmer is on the ice. Tochett will learn to be quiet. The chances are not being buried at home. They’re in the bottom 1/4 of games played so far. The GF/GA is WAY different than last season. Gotta make the playoffs and win 16. The rest is getting there.
He won a Jack Adams for fixing what Rutherford called a country club culture last season, now Tocchet (who called himself soft: his own words) has let it back into the building. But the good news is he's fixing it. This team will be back on track by the midway mark... unless the old Jack Adams curse strikes again of course.
It is interesting that their road record is so good while their home record is terrible. It's almost like the players keep letting too many family and home distractions get to them but when they're on the road and back in isolation then they can come together as a team better.
Im 61 and predate the canucks franchise have seen this movie too many times too count. Either the players will suck it up and start playing or we will be getting a new coach
The NHL Department of Player Safety is starting to sound more and more like Orwellian Doublespeak. What a joke. That Reaves hit was completely vicious, completely disgusting, and completely avoidable. I'm no fan of Nurse, nor any Oiler for that matter, but felt so bad for the guy. He didn't deserve that. No player suiting up for a game should ever feel like they're in danger of suffering a play like that. 20 games minimum, though I'd say more (same goes for Jeannot). A head injury is a misnomer. An injury is something you'd expect to recover from. And people recover from head shots, yeah.. but a hit like that could very well affect a guy lifelong (Bess, too). CTE isn't an injury.
With a patchwork goalie situation, a less than adequate defense it's not unusual for gifted players showing little or no enthusiasm. No body shoots anymore they just feed Hughes.
if the tv revenues are so good, why can't the nhl get a tv deal like the nba? i don't think elliotte's son was saying hi. it was more like daaad! let's goooooo!
Tocchet and his coaching staff are not the problem, the Canucks' roster of players are simply not skilled enough given how tough it is to win games in the NHL's western conference. Jake DeBrusk is finding this out the hard way. A major trade is needed. The Canucks next face the Rangers, Ottawa, Boston, Pittsburgh, Buffalo, Detroit, Minnesota, and Columbus, in that order. They need to win six of those eight games in order to forcefully re-assert themselves as a more serious team to be reckoned with in the western conference.
There is absolutely no way that Reeves hit was worse than the hit on Boeser. Reeves got hit with a suspension because of his reputation. Remember that Darnell Nurse is a cheap shot artist himself. Live by the sword.
This team has been very frustrating to watch. They need to find an identity, soon. It's like they don't know whether to play skilled and fast or tight and physical. They half commit to it all at once and do a poor job of it.
Why is our best forward getting benched hes the only guy producing constantly. Petterson needs to be benched for his lack of effort and shitty attitude. Also Myers needs to watch from thr press box too, who thought not signing Zadorov was smart 🤓😅😅
Benching Miller, while Pettersson has taken the last seven months off, is baffling decision-making by Tocchet. I bought into Tocchet as head coach after some initial hesitancy, but lately his choices or lack thereof are concerning. Reunite the lotto-line(with Boesers return), reunite the life line, and ENOUGH with lines in a blender.
@@FancouverCanucks pettersson was never a defensive liability like Miller has been recently. Barely back checking, horrible PK, lazy passes leading to giveaways. Consistently reuniting the lotto line will doom us in the playoffs, and keep switching lines up til they find what works (like pettersson's line recently) while also improving the entire teams chemistry.
The D beside Hughes is terrible period and upfront they need shooting practice none of them can hit the net they will be lucky to make playoffs Hughes wont sign here again cant blame him
miller has been a ghost for the past 4 or 5 games. his line is constantly getting caved when he's out there and his body language has been dogshit. it was an absolutely deserved benching.
Not wrong. he is playing injured, for sure. If he's playing like a liability on the ice, as he was last night, then Tocc has no other choice but to give ice time to others who give you a better opportunity to win. Full stop.
Oh I agree Miller hasn’t been good. Petey is coming around slowly but if that’s the case Petey was playing like crap since last years all star break Tocchet never sat him for even for 1 shift. Doesn’t make sense to me.
@@fredbrandl880 I think the bigger difference between petey and miller is that when petey's slumping, he isnt a complete liability on the ice and is still a very effective penalty killer. i do agree that pettersson shoulda sat a couple games last season (or even earlier this year!) but i can kinda understand why they didnt.

Benching Miller is a clear sign that there's personality issues behind the scenes with Canucks. The fans are getting tired of Tocchett making apologies and giving excuses after every losing game. Maybe it's time for a new coach, who can get this team refocused and with a new winning mindset. The great team of last season has regressed to 2-3 years ago. The poor stats of Elias Petterson --- despite all the media hype from guys like Elliot about how "he's coming back" --- are a very serious problem. Petey is NOT worth the huge contract he was given, with the false hope that he is going to turn into another superstar like Matthews, McDavid, Mackinnon, and Panaran and the other highest paid players in the game. 100% true, but a players history and track record play into it as well...not just the incident itself.
the only problem with that if it is a fringe nhl'er who is injured they will put him on LTIR for the rest of the season.
Agreed.
