im new to the print and cut with the cameo....and everything to know about printing and cutting is in this video...I still go back and watch it over and over....thanks cricflix
Just got my Silhouette Portrait and your video answered all of my questions! Fantastic instruction once I figured out that my blade wasn't descending lol. I had to do a full twist to 0 and 10 to get my blade to deploy if anyone else is having the same issue. :)
I am so thankful that I found you here on TH-cam!! I love watching your videos :). I feel like you explain things so well. I just received my Cameo before Christmas so I'm fairly new, but I plan on watching your videos and learning what my machine can do. Thanks again for making wonderful youtube videos!!
Thanks Jilr l, I did receive my Cameo also for Christmas. I have not had time to cut on in yet. But plan on the next couple of days. I have to tell you that I have been a little anxious, but when I hear you teach/instruct on your video's. I get inspired and excited.! Thanks :) Happy New Year!
Just set up my cameo yesterday. Which I bought almost two weeks ago. Never used or seen one before. (Don't have any crafty friends) but I managed to cut a few designs and learn the basics on a couple of hours from TH-cam videos. I'm really excited about it and this video was exactly what I was looking for. I'm making invitations for my cousin using baby Mickey. Thank you for all the information!
This is the best print and cut/tracing video I've seen! Thank you so much for doing these tutorials. You are so talented! Silhouette should hire you to do tutorials for them. Keep up the good work and I can't wait to see more of your videos!
Thank you for a pretty straight forward video! As a NEWBIE, I find the biggest problem is knowing which icon is associated with your instructions. I have stopped the video at least 5 times looking for the onset, replicate and trace icons etc.! I don’t think anyone takes that into account for a newbie! I also have found after watching videos and reading that there use to be a cheat sheet of sort, showing all the icons at a glance and their definitions! I read somewhere that this info use to be on page 42 in the Silhouette manual early on! Why the company decided to remove that page from the present manual for the CS3 is beyond me! Until one learns the icons (pictures), it’s so frustrating clicking on each icon to see the definition and follow along with you and the video. Then changes between CS1, CS2 and CS3 are substantial! I’ve found that watching a video for 1 machine has nothing to do with another. When people are so kind to give their time making videos, I don’t think they create new videos for upgrades for newer machines! An “at a glance” cheat sheet, would be a Heaven sent!
thank-you so much!! I tend to plunge into things, so I was very new to my Silhouette and had promised 8 logos on tees in 2 days. the learning curve has been stressful, but your tutorial has helped IMMENSELY!
This is the most informative video I've found! I got a Cameo for Xmas and am only now really getting to play with it--you've done wonders for me! Thank you
Thank you for your video tutorial(s). They have been so informative and I FINALLY have been able to do some projects on my Cameo. I really appreciate your taking the time to teach us newbies!
Question for you I have watched so many of your videos, I love them and I love watching you (i do it over and over again while at work) I am a card maker (a lot for local charity) and i do some scrapbook layouts too. I want to make my own die cuts for both cards as well as for layouts so my question for you is I know how to get around and work with the silhouette Portrait as well as the Cricut Air 2, I understand the offset for the white around the die cut to print then cut. My question is separating the offset from the print and cut and cutting it out of card stock to make it stronger and giving an accent color. Do you pull the off set after sizing to the gray area on the screen and leave it there while you do the print and cut then move them back before sending it to the machine to cut out the outline for the backing piece or how is that done? Also what do you do to back up all your clip art and die cut images, do you store them on CD's or Computer back up? How to you prevent the loss of all the die cuts you have bought?
Got my Silhouette for Christmas and can't wait to play with it. Can't do print and cut yet but I going to watch the videos where I don't need print and cut yet. Just have to back track some of your videos until I found one to practice with.
I notice when you pull already made clipart for silhouette files if you in large them warning sign comes up about resolution make smaller for print and cut files. Why?
Jill, I have a request from a customer that wants a M&M characters for a baby shower. I did Google image search and couldn't find to many of the whole M&M commercial M&M crew can you help me with the search? Is it possible?
Found 2 that I can work with but I need them individually and resolution is low for most of them. Do I print and cut the same as the purses you did in your video?
Never thought about that. Do I have to ungroup them? I tried with one of them and it only ungroup the eyebrow that wasn't attached to them anyway. Plus I wanted to know if I could cut off the page now that I have my silhouette?
Hello, I just got a Portrait; it's still in the box. I am overwhelmed with all the new stuff I have to learn, with making stickers, but I am really wanting to learn, TFS, 'will stay tuned!
very very very helpful! Most tuts dont show you how to group the traced edge and the image. I was going bonkers! I'm trying to prepare a sheet to test w my cameo when it gets here tomorrow. SO MUCH INFO! lol I'm making stickers mostly from my own artwork. Question though, when choosing the media (ie paper type) I have photo sticker paper and regular matte sticker paper. Is there a difference? I don't see an option in the settings. Only silhouette branded white sticker paper. Thank you for making this!
This is a great video! Thank you !!! Do you have one on how to get the inside of the arm to cut as well? I am stuck with an image and can't seem to get it to cut inside . Thanks!!
thank you so much i couldn't figure this out for the life of me. just a question, if i wanted to put this image on a shirt, what material would need to be used?
Jill , Thanks for all the videos! Please help me I just got the new software upgrade for the designer studio. when I print it out the square prints on the right instead of the left. And when i run in thru, its says that the registration failed. I don't know what to do could you please help.
Thank you!!!! you saved me from throwing my Silhouette straight out the window!!! God bless you, you are a great teacher !! 1,000,000,000,000.00 THUMBS UP :)
carolinegrace Thank you so much Caroline and please DON'T trow your machine out the window, will will losing the opportunity to have another "best" friend. I have three machines so they won't be lonely :o)
I have a question about this. I am trying to use the offset function but instead of going around the object it just makes a square around the object, how do I correct that?
Can I cut shapes inside of a printed image? Not just around it? Say I have a printed circle on paper and I wanted to cut out my name inside the circle with Cameo, could I do that with perfect registration?
Hi Jill. I have a question for you. I'm trying to print out some items. My printable vinyl is different size then my normal paper(larger) how can I have my Cameo print to the vinyl size? When it prints it prints to a standard piece of paper size, how do I, upscale it, I guess...?
+JonFocus Games Sims and Guns You need to change your printer setup to the size you need. And you printer also needs to accommodate the size you need, both the printer and the Cameo software need to be set to your size of vinyl that you need. I have a video on my channel how to setup your printer which would be the same process whether using paper or vinyl. Do a search in my channel up printer setup and you should find a couple different vids.
Thank you Barbara😉. I don't have a sil channel, this is mostly learned my trial and error, even some things I have learned by total accident. LOL. Thank you again, glad I have been a help to you.
Hello Jill I have watched a lot of your video and LOVE them!!! Your the best!! I do have a ? ... My Question is I'm trying to print Jake and Jessica at 12in. The DPI is 1600x3000 and It is coming out with lines through his face and blurry. Do you think its my printer. Or the DPI Is not high enough? And Jessica is difficult for me to color her in the coloring book pageThank You
Hi! everything i needed to do before printing i did, but for some reason it won't print a full page. it's only reading the bottom. I had this problem before but after playing around with it, it worked now it won't. would you happen to know why this is happing? i also have a mac.
Ud. Sabe espanol Verdad? Lo Ke kiero decir es Ke Como he visto ahora en black Friday la silhouette cameo a buen precio y kisiera comprarla, Pero no le entiendo porque. Aclara. Que excluye la cameo touch screen. Hay dos clases De esa maquina?
You mentioned an Epson printer to print. Do you need a printer to print and cut? My printer is an HP and doesn't print 12x12. Or can I just use the silhouette pens? What would you suggest?
I would suggest printing, pens are only going to give the outlines of the image they won't color it in. You can use the printer you have, you don't have to have a 12inch, I just got it because I do larger pieces all the time.
Ok, no problem I hope you get your problem resolved cause when your on the phone with them people you last hours and after that you just get so frustrated you don't want to do nothing afterwards lol. But thank you so much! And I will be waiting for your video Jill.
Hi Jill can you tell me where you get your wooden base and what are they called I know your husband paints them black for you and I watch most of your videos to see if you mention which I know you did but I just could not find it.
Jill Joann's have sale on alot of stuff the cameo cutting blades are like $7.79 I know you always say u stock up on stuff when there are sale so just letting you know.
oh Jill they have the sale in store now before they only had it online so you can go there tomorrow its going on until jan 4th get them while they last.

Hi Jill I'm at the part were ur trying to save the image and I'm trying to open the image on a new tab but it keeps taking me to a different page.. I just got a new Mac and the new Sillouette and was wondering if I'm doing something wrong.. First time on a Mac.. If u can help me I would greatly appreciate it...ps.. Love your videos ...
Hi thanks for responding I got the reg marks to show up all three of them before was only printing two. Now my cameo reads all of the reg. marks and the homes itself and says job complete it is not making any cuts. I don't understand what I'm doing or not doing
Ran Jer Do you have cut lines ???? sounds like you don't have your cut lines set, that has to be done manually on each project, you have to tell the machine to cut outer line, all lines etc. It defaults to no cut.
Well, first i want to thank you for your videos been a fan ...Now ..I finally purchased my first silhouette, because of YOU and your videos. made my first print and cut with a little bit of a struggle, but thanks to you i cut my first prima doll stamp..perfectly ...... but I have a question, her hand is on her hip , therefore there is also an inner cut how can i cut the inner cut perfectly as well as that outer cut Hmmmm!! Sera...
Thank you so much for this. Now I can decorate my sons birthday party a theme that is not sold in stores. He loves video games & wanted a Halo Reach theme. ....... I have a PC & this does work on the free software edition sold with the silhouette. just save the image as a jpeg. then open in the silhouette. 1. open the trace window. click select trace area. hold curser & drag a box around the picture. turn off high pass filter & adjust the threshold as Jill states. 2 Hold curser & drag a box around the image again 3. click object then mortify. 3. click offset. enter .05 in the offset distance section. click the apply button. 4. hold curser & drag a box around the image & click object then group. Hope this helps.
hello i am soooo new to this. i learn so much from your tutorials. i have a question when i print the image from my printer do i use the material that im going to cut? or can i save the image onto my computer and send it to my silhouette and print from there? a little confused
Tasha Walker You will design your image on your silhouette software then you will use your printer on your white card stock of the image which will print registration marks on the paper that they software will detect and know where to cut
when I print it out its not getting all my marks because my mat shows 12x 12 show I think the cameo thinks I'm printing on a 12 x 12 but I'm not. is there away to adjust that in the cameo settings? sorry if I'm not explaining it right. I'm new to this.
+Anna Lannon Yes, you need to change your paper settings both in your printer setup and your mat. I have numerous videos on my channel showing how to set it up. Ill see if I can find the link.
Hello Jill I finally got my cameo lol so I've watched this video a thousand times and I got how to do it but now I'm having trouble to do the white background can you show us how to do that? I want to also thank you for this great video so far this is the best one that does step by step and has helped me a lot.
+Esperanza Martinez Thank you so much for the message. I will try to do a video with a few odds and ends that have been coming in. Trouble is that for some reason I am unable to save the recordings I have been doing, I keep getting an error. I need to call Apple support and find out why these keeps happening to me.
+marshroanoke I don't use any transfer paper. I am not sure what you mean, please let me know exactly what you mean by transfer paper. These images are a copy, paste, printed & cut.
Hi Jill so I tried printing today with my Silhouette for the very first time and it was a total fail. I don't know what I did wrong :( I inserted my feeding mat with paper and when I put print the mat went all over the place and it looked like it got stuck so I canceled it and it even cut through the mat . What am I doing wrong>????? Help?
Erika, I am not sure if I am understanding you correctly but the Silhouette does not print, you print to a printer from the silhouette and when it prints on your printer there are registration marks on the print out. When you feed that into your machine you have to detect registration marks and then cut. I will do a video of you from start to finish so you understand.
do you know if there is something I can do for some reason my printer is not printing the registration marks is it something I'm doing is it a computer printer issue I'm new to the silhouettes I've only had it for 4 days
Ran Jer Do you have the registration marks turned on ? Can you see them on your mat on the software, they have to be turned on and you would see them. Also make sure your paper selection for the size is correct.
I followed your tutorial and my cut was perfect, but it cut with the red line around the white border. How do I get it to cut without the red border Thank you
Jill can you please send me the paper number from Amazon? 11x17? Also on the thicker paper on your Epsom you have to change your platin gap. I will be ordering the cameo soon and you said on one of your videos the product number and I can't find it. Thank you. Also what print setting do you use for this paper. I use Epsom 3800 and 4800. Professional printers. Thank you Shelley
The part number for the Amazon paper is 40414 and at Staples the part number is 188096. I have no idea what settings you would use on your printer since I use the 7620 Epson. I always print on best but you may not need to since your printer is a profession printer.
I have one question. Can I print from my printer with registration marks. Then copy them somewhere else (to save ink) which will print registration marks as well and then cut everything send everything to my cameo ?
torresxrocks As long as the paper is exact it should work. The copies would have to be perfect, the marks are pretty precise where they are on the paper. I have never tried but you could always try one and see if it works.
Victoria salazar First of are you making cut lines. The default after you print an image is no cut lines. You have to go and choose your cut, check the knife at the top right corner and choose most likely cut outline or it will cut out all your layers if you have layered colors.
Hi Jill, My boyfriend just bought me the Silhouette Cameo. I kinda get the rest of the tutorial but I'm having a problem pasting the image. Am I doing something wrong?
You have to purchase it however I am not sure if that is the reason. I never used the free version I only know that there are limitations with it. I work on a mac so I am not sure what to tell you why you can't copy and paste.
Betty Boynton I use the silhouette software and when you print from the software you have to pick your printer. I am wireless so I have mine set up to do so wirelessly.
Is there a way to send you the photos that I took one of them is the print and cut that I am trying to do the other photo is of the screen on my cameo what it's telling me to do the printout has all three registration marks...I don't know I'm at a total loss it's done it twice now where when I go in to adjust the printer settings through the Cameo software everything's in a foreign language its in Chinese or Japanese I even uninstall the program and reinstalled it I don't know I'm about ready to pull my hair out I don't know why its doing this I have my cut lines on I literally followed your tutorial not kidding probably 10 times step by step and it is not working on my end I don't know what I'm doing or not doing
You have to trace ALL image first and crop....even though you can't see a white background there is a transparent background that the images still need to be cropped. If you need help send me the image and I will do a video to show you.
Doing a video right now for you. The video is actually on a scrapbook layout but I added a little clip for you to show you how to get rid of the white under the arm.
Lo que necesita es el Cameo Silhouette.....no se la maquina de que estas hablando de el Black Friday pero si me dices en donde lo tiene el black friday yo puedo verla para decirte si es lo que necesitas.
I have had my Cameo for 4 months and now it will not line up. Cuts about a 1/2" off. I have tried everything. Any suggestion? Most of the time it will not even read the registration marks.
Make sure that you are cutting with the setting on the machine set to cutting mat and NOT load Media….it will not cut correctly if you cut on load media and that is the default setting when you purchase a machine.
Paula, first thing is make sure when you are cutting that your loading matt and not set to load media….on you little LED box at the top it says load cutting mat, make sure that is picked. Also, with your machine turned off take some WD 40 and run it along the bar that the housing for the blade is running on…NOT the one that is in front for loading the mat but the one in back. After you put some WD-40 on that bar take the housing (black box) and slide it back and forth numerous times. If any of the WD got on the back side where the mat feeds out just wipe it off with a paper towel. I use a small tube of WD that has an applicator tip so it is easy to apply to the bar only. Don't use a spray can. MAKE SURE THE MACHINE IS TURNED OFF…...
Hi please can you help me , i don't have a home printer and i printed my stuff in house print and i want to cut it with my silhouette cameo how can i sync a printed paper already without a home printer with my machine thank u
Jill how you do your die cuts I try do it and the color came out not like the picture I have a dell printer and I was thanking was the ink i got I have the Office Depot ink it's call the dell series 21xl/22xl I have the color one two i'am going do a die cut and send to your email what is a good place to send to so you can see it let me know
Are you printing on BEST quality print...that makes a HUGE difference. I am not familiar with the Dell printer, I have had HP, Brother and Epson and so far Epson is the best hands down.
I just did one and the color didnt come out like it should are it a way I can send it to you for you can see what iam talking about I love your video and I sit right in front of my laptop and look at what you do I have the silhouette edition the new one and I want do die cuts and I thank its the ink iam use I have to call dell and see they say I find a Epson print in Walmart and it have the 2 tray and it big my printer I have print 8.1/2by 11 the printer was giving to me

Ugh... so confused by this tutorial. Have you done this again, but taking the time to show. I keep having to back up to try and see what you are clicking on and doing. I know it's a long video, but slow down a bit.
im new to the print and cut with the cameo....and everything to know about printing and cutting is in this video...I still go back and watch it over and over....thanks cricflix

Thankyou. I haven't tried print and cut yet, but you make it look so easy I might just have to try it!
+Susan Lock It is super easy.....once I started using that feature I never went back to the paper piecing.
Thank you for your video tutorial(s). They have been so informative and I FINALLY have been able to do some projects on my Cameo. I really appreciate your taking the time to teach us newbies!
Thanks so much for sharing this information. I've watched your video a few times and now I think it's time for me to go do some printing & cutting.
Let me know how that works out for you.....once you get the hang of it you will become obsessed LOL
This was so awesome, thanks!

Thank you Kill, showing how to use the cameo machine. My question is will the cameo print on any printer or a specific. Printer?
Any printer, it does not make any difference what you model is.
Thank you!!!! you saved me from throwing my Silhouette straight out the window!!! God bless you, you are a great teacher !! 1,000,000,000,000.00 THUMBS UP :)

Hi Jill:
Would you need the Designer Edition to print and cut from the Cameo?
I have a question about this. I am trying to use the offset function but instead of going around the object it just makes a square around the object, how do I correct that?
Can I cut shapes inside of a printed image? Not just around it? Say I have a printed circle on paper and I wanted to cut out my name inside the circle with Cameo, could I do that with perfect registration?
how reliable is the printer you are using ? and are you using continuos ink systems with pigment ink?
Hi Jill. I have a question for you. I'm trying to print out some items. My printable vinyl is different size then my normal paper(larger) how can I have my Cameo print to the vinyl size?

This is my go to for print and cut!!! I think this is the best so far and I have it saved for future references. do you have a sil channel?TIA
Thank you Barbara😉. I don't have a sil channel, this is mostly learned my trial and error, even some things I have learned by total accident. LOL. Thank you again, glad I have been a help to you.

Hi! everything i needed to do before printing i did, but for some reason it won't print a full page. it's only reading the bottom.
Is this the same way I would do heat transfer vinyl for a t-shirt?
Hi Jill can you tell me where you get your wooden base and what are they called I know your husband paints them black for you and I watch most of your videos to see if you mention which I know you did but I just could not find it.
ok thanks Jill.

I would like to know which machine you have the regular one or touch screen?
I am not aware of any machine with a touch screen, not sure what you are referring to. I have the Cameo Silhouette and the Business Edition software
+Rachel Padilla Hi Rachel...I just saw your message. Did you still need help???
Sera...
Sera gio I will do a quick youtube for you to show you how.
You're a sweetheart thanks
Sera
Thank you so much for the tutorial I am getting one of those camio ..
Thank you Jill for the video it was really helpful!
I cant get it to copy into silhouette. I have a Desktop PC
I loved this video. Thank you!!
hello i am soooo new to this. i learn so much from your tutorials. i have a question when i print the image from my printer do i use the material that im going to cut? or can i save the image onto my computer and send it to my silhouette and print from there? a little confused
Tasha Walker You will design your image on your silhouette software then you will use your printer on your white card stock of the image which will print registration marks on the paper that they software will detect and know where to cut
Thank you soo much. I'm going to need all the help I can get.
I will help you as much as I possibly can. That is what I am here for :o)
So your printer prints 12 x 12?
when I print it out its not getting all my marks because my mat shows 12x 12 show I think the cameo thinks I'm printing on a 12 x 12 but I'm not. is there away to adjust that in the cameo settings? sorry if I'm not explaining it right.
Hey I got my silhouette now but I'm trying to learn how to use it
for some reason I can't modify it's grayed out please help
The best tutorial i think found here! thank you
Hi Jill! What transfer paper are you using?
How do I get it to cut without the red border
Thank you
Jill can you please send me the paper number from Amazon? 11x17? Also on the thicker paper on your Epsom you have to change your platin gap. I will be ordering the cameo soon and you said on one of your videos the product number and I can't find it. Thank you. Also what print setting do you use for this paper. I use Epsom 3800 and 4800. Professional printers.
Thank you
Shelley
The part number for the Amazon paper is 40414 and at Staples the part number is 188096. I have no idea what settings you would use on your printer since I use the 7620 Epson. I always print on best but you may not need to since your printer is a profession printer.
Wonderful, thank you for sharing!
I have never tried but you could always try one and see if it works.
im trying to cut after printing and nothing cuts. im using a regular size printer not a 12x12. what could be the problem?
Victoria salazar First of are you making cut lines. The default after you print an image is no cut lines. You have to go and choose your cut, check the knife at the top right corner and choose most likely cut outline or it will cut out all your layers if you have layered colors.
Hi Jill,
My boyfriend just bought me the Silhouette Cameo. I kinda get the rest of the tutorial but I'm having a problem pasting the image. Am I doing something wrong?
+Jackiechavez02 Did you upgrade your software to the Designer Edition?
+cricflix Do I have to purchase that or does it come with it? How does that work?
You have to purchase it however I am not sure if that is the reason. I never used the free version I only know that there are limitations with it. I work on a mac so I am not sure what to tell you why you can't copy and paste.
+cricflix I don't have that version. I'll be purchasing it tomorrow. I also have a mac so hopefully that's the reason.
Thank you Jill.
Good morning please help how do you print from the printer and what do I connect ....
Betty Boynton I use the silhouette software and when you print from the software you have to pick your printer. I am wireless so I have mine set up to do so wirelessly.
My printer dont take 12x12 paper it just takes your standard 8 1/2 by 11 how do i adjust that for my machine? Thanks
Not sure what you mean. If you have a Cameo you would just set your settings like you do for any project that you print.
Ran Jer Send me the files and let me take a look. I will walk you through the settings to make sure you have them correct.
How do I get the outline to work right? When I click outline, I just get a big box around my image. Trying to cut out characters from Toy Story.
You have to trace ALL image first and crop....even though you can't see a white background there is a transparent background that the images still need to be cropped. If you need help send me the image and I will do a video to show you.
Yay, that worked! Thanks so much! Now trying to figure out how to cut out the white piece inside the arm. Just click Cut?
Doing a video right now for you. The video is actually on a scrapbook layout but I added a little clip for you to show you how to get rid of the white under the arm.
cricflix Were you able to post the video?
Am I able to use the sketch pens with all designs?
+Susan Milliron No idea, don't see why not however I don't use them so I would not be a good person to ask.
If you do not have the designer edition, can you still do this same thing?
The free edition is very limited, I have never used it so I am not sure what you can or can't do .
I'm trying to make a personalized Hennessy label for cupcakes gonna try this hope it works
Thank you! You made it so simple!
This was great!!!! Thank you so much!!!
You are very welcome and THANK YOU for taking the time to message me with feedback. Happy Crafting.
Will this work the same with printable vinyl?
+Light Brothers Woodworks Yes
I just tried doing this with a tinker bell image but when i went to paste it just came up with a number.. not the picture.. any ideas
save and open
Please help! Everytime I click on my scissors when I am ready to cut my image disappears!
very nice video l, like the sound quality🖒
I have had my Cameo for 4 months and now it will not line up. Cuts about a 1/2" off. I have tried everything. Any suggestion? Most of the time it will not even read the registration marks.
Make sure that you are cutting with the setting on the machine set to cutting mat and NOT load Media….it will not cut correctly if you cut on load media and that is the default setting when you purchase a machine.
Thanks! I had a bad machine but they are doing a total replacement!
You can't , you have to print it with the registration marks which would be required to print from your software to your printer.
is there away to send a pic to you to show you?
+Anna Lannon sure, email me at cricflix@gmail.com
great video as always. thank you for the inspiration. hugs, susan
Very helpful! Thank you

Ugh... so confused by this tutorial. Have you done this again, but taking the time to show. I keep having to back up to try and see what you are clicking on and doing. I know it's a long video, but slow down a bit.
