Fulltime RV-ers Liz and Paul share what's not so great about living on the road in a camper. If you are thinking about living in your travel trailer, motorhome or fifth wheel fulltime, here are some things to consider.
1:07 Mail issues: sending and receiving letters, packages, supplies and replacement parts, etc.
2:30 Realise all the things you have to give up. Due to lack of space. Hobbies like sewing, mechanics, etc.
3:28 Laundry
5:03 Constantly in close contact.
7:02 Rent an RV and spend a week or two to see if you really fo like.
10:18 Lack of community, friends, Internet, Cell Service, television and Cablevision. Sometimes you have too much solitude and you will get lonely.

Find out if RV life is for you by watching our tips of things to think about: th-cam.com/video/PVSjNt0tQ0E/w-d-xo.html
We had our onboard generator go down on us and we were told it would cost $2000 just to remove it and look @ it. We ended up getting one from Lowes and with the COVID-19 we all have had some very unexpected costs. (My hubby used to work on Agri buggies and equipment so he had already gone through the simple things.)
BEARS COUGARS AND BIGFOOT. ANIMALS ITS ALWAYS AN ISSUE I GOTTA HAVE A LARG SUPPLY OF AMONIA AND LEMON JUICE.

I am a 40 year old full timer that's retired, and solo. I am having the time of my life!
I've lived my life hopping from house to house all of my stuff pretty much fits in a suitcase so none of this really bothers me
See? That's a good thing! I grew up moving every couple years so I enjoy having a change of scenery.
Minimalism at its finest. If you don’t mind me asking, what are the things you end up packing?
Well, we have a lot of kitchen stuff: iron skillets, a massive blender, coffee grinder and a a bunch of tools- and that's just Paul! I have professional cameras, tripods, a drone, a lounger, a mixer, baking pans, we definitely do NOT travel light! But at least now have a rig plenty big to accommodate.

You’d save a shit ton by buying a van and living out of that! Rent is the killer
I recommend 3 TVs, 3 small dogs kept off leash all the times, a minimum of 3 bottles of booze on hand at all times, a golf cart, 13 lawn ornaments, a custom wood sign with your names on it to put out in front of your site, 13 outdoor chairs for all your lolly gag buddies, because that's real camping.
Oh yeah!
I fell like this is one of the best videos out there. My fiance and I want to go RVing but we've only been together for a year and are just beginning to live together. Now I can see why people wait until they're older to do this. We need more time to grow together before we isolate ourselves in an RV for an extended time.
Thank you so much!!!
You are so welcome! And you never know, this life may work for you now. Everyone needs to find their own answer. We did a video asking if fulltime RV life is right for you, it may help clarify things. Check it out: th-cam.com/video/PVSjNt0tQ0E/w-d-xo.html

From UK 23.9.20.RV Living. Not Spell Ckd.Ok. Good and not good.Theres lots could be said. But not enough background re prev life. For instance the Hot Rod involvement I would have thought be worth explaining about.IE how it started and why. I only saw brief glance at a w-shop and a house. The trouble is, brief glances whet appetite but was disapointed. You could claim the film is about the RV situation but I still think a lot more should be explained. Alsoi more about his partner etrc would be good. Am pleased that they are aware of the difficulties posed by that RV way of life. This may not be popular but I feel I have the right to state that I would not have taken that step for several reasons other than those stated. Maintaining a complex vehicle without a workshop is a nitemare. Also the vehicle will almost certainly depreciate whereas a building often appreciates. Its all very well when young but spose one partner gets ill. I dont even want to think about that kind of outcome. It seems to me that people in US still have the desire for pioneer ways of life. Apparantly H Ford thought that way too. The US is very different from UK and I wonder how many in that country realise it., I worked 7 days a week sometimes 24 hours a day but RV is a small van and a 10ftx15 ft ridge tent. It astonishes me to see huge RVs by the 1000 going this way and that. The people must be very rich.I started life in a 10ft x 12 ft room and was ill. The RV depicted is as long as our house. Am also pretty tired at looking at landscapes and cityscapes. If I was forced to do a RV life I would find a site which had Water and Electric and a sewage arrangement.then put the vehicle on a hard standing Take the weight and then store wheels under cover. I would make sure the site is near to some built up area. Yes you then need a cheap car., Was thinking of putting a tarp over the unit in winter. But theres the windows to consider. The other plan I might have is to get large or ample barn and stick the RV inside. This I reckon is best, I dont know the laws in US so am dreaming. I did not see whether the couple have a second vehicle. Most of this is conjecture. Nice to see holding hands. I need more info. Why am I cautious? Its because I had a life of failure stress, disappointment which kept step with massive efforts. Have noticed on other RV shows no one seems to have or read a newspaper. Also no one even mentions what is going on in the area or country. They just chat about their own ambition and lives.Have not seen anyone yet at their wits end., No one mentioned the press reports of Trump being pursued by 26 women on sex grounds. Nor does anyone notice that his father made manoy from properyty speculation and prostitution. Also it seems people are not aware of the writing analysis we did and found a tendancy similar to that of the 3rd Reich upper levels. We indicate aggression. The level of crrptn in UK is at epidemic levels and we ourselves are experiencing police attacks because of the evidence that the BBC advised to hide it abroad. We found that all HM prefix orgs were implicated as is the HM Courts. We experienced death threats from the US security firms here. Thats the firms that beat, shot workers in 19th C US. Seems to me that the public cant be trusted when voting. Why dont we expose it? The entire media and press has told us they wont print any of it. Social media like face book, destroys the accounts and mails. We have no access to health system or welfare. No reply from 2 HM MPs. No reply from 25 Universities. The people in this road social distance is 50 meters upwards. I laid here in terrible pain for 7 yrs screaming in agony. No help. The Local Govt here say this- "If Theres Anything Wrong With Local Govt You Have To Go Get A Lawyer".Forgot to mention the horrific US Cities No wonder they raped.killed.tortured.burned to death the orig US poulation..Have a nice day.Wish we had one.
Those are the negatives? Sounds like my life in an apartment. I'm ready.
@@remimarkable4834 Come on out here! We love it!
I’m 31 and single. Been living in mine for 9 months now. Fortunately the park I live in has a laundromat and full mail services. Very scenic park in Northern CA. I love it so far.
Oh my gosh, I LOVE Northern Cali so much! I stayed at a campground in Trinidad -wow! Can't wait to explore the north half of the state more. Sounds like you are in a great campground. The one I mentioned is not for long term, but it certainly is a beauty. Here's my video about it: th-cam.com/video/yGW0zWJpTxE/w-d-xo.html
What's the rent like? I know it varies. Just curious. I'm considering it. Currently living in Texas.
Where in Nocal? I'm just retired and I live in Sac. I'm getting an RV. I'm retired Air Force and I'm gonna stay at Military bases. Travis, Moffet, San Diego, Coronado...
I live in Grass Valley California about 45 minutes from Sacramento. We have many places to park an rv. I'm looking to get one right now too. They are all around this beautiful area.
I would recommend a portable washing machine and spin dryer. They are very small a load can take 5-10 mins and you hook it up to your sink. 😊
Good idea, will check them out. Thanks!
I had one worked great, I kept it outside near the water hook up. But if you have space, I have and suggest you think about getting a washer and dryer set . It makes a difference, you can wash 2 towels and 2 sets of clothes ( not jeans) . It can be 15 min quick wash, 30 for a load as above and 2 sheets pillow cases and 1 towel, I like to be very specific on how and what I wash, but the key is you can do washing and drying at the same time. Get your life back, and no nasty dryer lint or moldy washers, and the cost. You can adjust the spin cycle accordingly to your load. You won’t be sorry
I bought as pandemic was setting in. Works great on kitchen counter, and is quite durable. I skipped the spin drying function on washer in favor of stand-alone spin dryer, very sturdy type, and line dry afterwards. Once every 3 months or so I bring big things like sheets and blankets and kitchen towels that might be greasy to a very clean and modern laundromat with wifi. Amazon has great reviews on some of these items which are quite detailed with advice/how-to-use, I had my doubts but it is a great system. I use this in small residence now but am eyeing the RV life as well after the pandemic, and expect to continue to use these.
Wonder wash! Takes some elbow grease tho!
I recommend a sky hook
That man got heart eyes everytime he look at her. Especially when they talking about always being around
Awww, isn't that sweet? We are grateful to have found each other. Here's our story of how we met on the road: th-cam.com/video/jvWDUG3zgdA/w-d-xo.html
Thank you for Sharing this..... My wife and I are very close to doing this. Retired Navy couple of 36 years and your part of liking the person your traveling with shines through...is even refreshing seeing a couple hold hands ...
Awww, thanks so much!We love RV life and look forward to meeting you at a campground someday!

Thanks for the honesty. We need to hear the pros and cons
Yep. And you're welcome. We do love the RV life and hope you join us out here someday. We just talked to campground neighbors who rented out their house for two years and expect to fulltime just for that length before going back to a house. So there are unlimited ways to do this life. Happy planning!

I already sold my home! I have lived one year in my RV. Class C 31 foot with my disabled son who is 29 years old. I live in a RV Park right on the lake. I am good right now getting used to RV life stabilized. I have bought things for the road when that happens. Solar Generator, down sizing even more with just the things in my RV. I do have a nice set up on patio by lake with Gazebo, storage small heavy plastic bldg, dog area I have 4 dogs and a bird. Yes I do the same thing I used to have China Cabnet with every Crystal & China, special silverware...etc. I do miss all that. I don't miss the keep up of my home, and all the STUFF IN THE GARAGE!! I JUST WENT ALL OUT, SOLD HOME WENT INTO RV. I was done with staying one place, money into home, clean, clean, clean!! It takes me 10 minutes to clean inside when all is kept up. Outside I blow leaves.
That's awesome! It sounds like you have a nice setup and are enjoying your first year of RV life. That's so true, living in a house you always have something that needs repairs or maintenance. And cleaning! Yep, cleaning an RV is a breeze! Thanks for your comment and enjoy that lake view- nice!

This advice is so helpful. You really address the issues of having emotional intelligence, communication skills and maturity in such an empathetic and compassionate way. I am so impressed. You're lucky to have found each other and I wish you much happiness and success in your journey.
Awww, thank you so much. We just had a relationship reset and we talk about it in our latest video: th-cam.com/video/zcmuM2MNShY/w-d-xo.html
Thank you for making these very informative videos. My parents were RVer’s even before it was popular. We had a converted bus way back in 1965 and I can remember it had a toilet and holding tanks. In 1975 when I was 15 they bought a stripped down Dodge Maxi-Van, tossed a mattress in it and a portable Coleman stove and cooler. I had a Walmart tent and away we went. 3-months, Mount Rushmore, Sequoia, Yosemite, The Space Needle, Yellowstone, Cody Wyoming and so on. So much fun. They went through travel trailers, pop-ups, a Champion Motor RV and had just bought a 5th Wheel when my Pop passed away in 1998.
We live in FL. I too have the wondering spirit and have suggested to my wife that we save and spend money for something livable to travel ½ year to a cooler summer climate. My kids split mortgage with us so we would not be giving up residential life entirely. Does this sound like a good way to begin?
Hi there! Sounds like your parents were adventurers! What great memories you must have from those trips! Yes, it does seem you are limiting your risk by starting out again and going for six months, while still hanging on to your house. For the first few trips, stay close to home so you can make any modifications needed, plus off-load what you end up not using. Happy travels!
Ty that’s so nice of you 😊
we are selling our 2 story log cabin house and our 5 acres in Alaska
And go Rving we are retired now
From Dog sledding and working so time to travel and R&R
Thank you Susan! I bet you are looking forward to your next chapter. We hope to visit Alaska one day. Hope to meet you around the campfire sometime!
Have been seeing more and more of "everybody" talking about the downside.
Good to see more honesty out there.
Toughest part for a single mom is (or was) breakdowns.
We had the time and the money to deal with it but many people who wanna hit the road honestly have no clue.
Thx for the vid.
You are so welcome. I started out solo and roadside repairs was a big stressor for me! Here are some great resources if you ever do get stuck. This video is about when I was out in the middle of nowhere (no one to call for help). th-cam.com/video/9HqmFZK0qqA/w-d-xo.html
Happy trails to you. And, lol, the first time I read about breakdowns from a single mom I thought you meant you or your child was having breakdowns! lol

That sounds awesome to have found the perfect balance-- and you sure can't beat camping just 20 minutes from home! Wishing you much happy camping as well as crafting! Thanks for watching and for commenting!
Oh yay! I haven't seen one of your videos in my list in a long time. It's great seeing you both again.
My husband and I "escape" each other by using ear buds and going to opposite ends of our 30 ft. Class C. Or, one of us hangs out under the awning outside and allows the other to have the rig to "themselves."
Great and informative video! Love to you both. Stay safe, stay healthy.
Hi Susan! Great idea. We both use earbuds and headphones. And I take long walks with Mango. So nice to hear from you. If you ring the bell under any of our videos you will get a notification of our next video. Paul and I hope to meet you on the road someday.

Opposite end of a 30 foot rig. You can’t be serious. One sits outside and the the other has the rig to him/herself. Wow, mows there is a healthy plan. Buy a (house) close to a bar, 96 the “rig” and call it a day. So stupid!!!! Stay safe.
@@casketbier151 Buying a house next to a bar would be a decidedly unhealthy choice, since I'm sober now for 8 years. But thanks so much for your "constructive" criticism, because being called stupid is always so helpful, especially 9 months after the original comments were made. I was speaking about my own experience and what works for me, and was not making recommendations for everyone else.
Maybe you were just having a bad day. If so, I hope things are better now.
@@slister45 No actually having a great weekend. Just living in a 30 foot tine box hauling it around and having no place to escape the Dream crusher ( is) so stupid!!!!!
I'm a 55yo solo female considering this lifestyle. You've confirmed many of my doubts about taking the leap as I'm not sure I would handle 'problems' very well. I have been researching available rentals to try it out and that is definitely excellent advice, thank you from Australia.
Hi Jane! When I was solo I had an emergency roadside repair and found the Facebook groups and forums so helpful. Posted my question and got an immediate answer. Here is what happened: th-cam.com/video/9HqmFZK0qqA/w-d-xo.html
We all need to find our own happiness in our own way. Your pointers were great. I hope people heed your advice.
Thanks so much! We love RV life but we know it's not for everyone. Be safe.
I appreciated your authenticity not being afraid to ask difficult questions. We’ve been watching videos for hours. Nobody else has addressed depression, isolation. We enjoyed this video.
Thanks so much Joshua, and welcome to our channel! We actually dive deeper into that here: th-cam.com/video/yJhV5RzuwUI/w-d-xo.html
I could live solo for 3 to 4 months at a time. Of course everyone needs friends 🤠😉
Yes! I think the answer for a solo traveler is to get in with a group of other solos and travel together part of the time. Escapees does this...or did before the world changed. There are Facebook groups where you could find other solos to travel with. I was solo for a year and did pretty good.
I know a guy named Richard who said he got by with a little help from his friends.

In regards to your laundry issue, there are actually some small electric washers you can definitely use in your RV shower. I found mine for $100 on Amazon a few years ago but I have seen them in big box stores since. You can then spin them to nearly dry in the same unit. You can hang your clothes after or pay for a dryer. It isn't a perfect solution, but it works if you do not have access to laundry services! It saved me so much time, labor, and money when I lived in the middle of nowhere.
Hi Rozela, That's awesome, thanks so much. I do believe I will get one of those little washers one of these. Doing laundry has turned into an "event" that takes up much of the day bc we have to go to a laundromat and do it all. Would be nice to just drop a small load in at home in the rig, and then just go about my day. Thanks again and have a super weekend!
I know it is an older post, but do you have any recommendation as to the brand of this small electric washer? We are going full-time RV, decided for no W/D for the same reasons explained in the video. However, I have a very bad allergy to synthetic fragrances. Laundromats use strongly scented products both for washers and dryer that would "contaminate" my sheets or clothes. Thank you!
Thank you for these wonderful videos. Super informative. My husband and I sold our cabin and took out our in-ground pool. We needed something to do we thought let's do rving Watching your videos made us realize we are not RV people. I'm so glad there are people like you who are having a ball out on the road. You saved us a ton of mistakes by showing us the wonderful ins-and-outs of RV.
Hi Nancy! So glad to hear. RV life is not for everyone. You certainly need to be handy. Many folks think it is an endless vacation. It is not. But for the right people, it's a dream. Hope you and your hubby find your exciting next chapter!! And absolutely keep watching; we have a lot of non RVers who are traveling with us virtually.
You are such a cute couple. Thank you for sharing your story.
Awww, thanks so much. Life is very sweet for sure!
I’m currently living in a small couple’s camper and I bought a portable washer/dryer off Amazon that works perfectly at camp grounds out of the bed of your truck. Takes up little space and works great for me!
Oooh, that's awesome! Happy washing to you!
Great video Liz and Paul! My downsides... Noisy neighbours! I get it, some are out to party, some are “living” from their rig. In many cases sites are pretty close together so it is super important to still “do you” but at the same time respect the space of others close by. When we have noisy neighbours, we close the windows, turn up the AC and turn the trailer into the Maxwell Smart cone of silence - Movie or reading time! :) Thanks for the video guys!
Hey there! Noisy neighbors and barky dogs!! We do get that from weekenders but they usually don’t stick around long enough to bother us. It helps a bunch that our new rig is more sound proof than the last. Thanks for your comment!

Hi and welcome to our channel! We are finding the social gets easier the longer we do it. We are building a community because of our camping membership so we are starting to run into the same folks at different locations.
Would love to hear any thoughts or tips you have about downsizing to RV life. I am collecting advice for a future video: Is it best to do it fast or slow? Set a deadline? What would make it easier for folks?
So we camp for an average of less than $5 a night but it can be done for just a $1.64 average. Here is our video about that: th-cam.com/video/cbZC97DWFe8/w-d-xo.html

I didn’t think we needed a washer and dryer in our 5er. My wife kept telling me we needed one. I finally gave in and we absolutely love it. We heard all of the down sides to having them and it scared me, but we did it and all we heard was not too truthful. We are not full timers but we do go out for a month or 2 at a time. I really like your channel keep up the good work.
Hi Joe! Thanks so much! If we are parked next to you at a campground, maybe I will sneak over and give your machine a try! :)

I think social media CAN be community. Like anything, it depends on how you use it.
I have a washer and dryer in my Grand Design TT and almost none of the things you talked about applies. Yes it shakes the rig a little but no more than a strong wind. I also have a natures head composting toilet so my black tank has never been used as a black tank so I can do laundry while boondocking using biodegradable soap so I can actually let it run out on and into the ground. Also am a disabled vet so I am can stay at a parks on military base for $400 per month all utilities included. I do live alone and maybe someday I will get lucky like you two did. I have both ATT and Verizon unlimited so usually one or the other will work for internet. I also have a tv service that only costs me $10 per month and is an android app that gives me all stations including all hbo, showtime etc. so I can usually watch that anywhere I am. If I can't I just read. I much prefer the Travel trailer to a fifth wheel as I can use my truck bed with a camper shell and a place to stay when I take shorter trips.
Hi Larry, sounds like you have the perfect setup for you. We love how the fifth wheel pulls...especially on windy days. I bet that's a tradeoff you are willing to make since you can use the extra storage in your truck bed-- and use it as a mini camper!
Glad to hear about the washer/dryer. Someday we may get one in the RV so it's good to know that there are ways to make it work.
I am grateful that I got to do this life solo before meeting Paul. What I learned is to be friendly to EVERYONE and that is the best avenue to finding a partner. I had ruled out Paul as too old but we remained friends...and you know the rest of the story!

I plan on getting an affordable home on an isolated lake. Use it as home base and to store stuffs of needs and wants. It will be my base camp. The mortgage will cost less than storage fees in many states. Paul, the Ford tailgate sink = awesome.
Paul says thank you, one of his prouder creations. Your idea of having a home base is a good one. Lots of advantages!
When you sold your house, what did you do with proceeds. I'm single but I lived in my RV for a few months
I used some of the proceeds to upgrade to a better RV and put the rest in savings. I think it can be cheaper to live in an RV if you do it right. One thing that helps us is we camp at resorts for an annual average of under $5 a day and know people who do it for under $2 a day. Here's how: th-cam.com/video/cbZC97DWFe8/w-d-xo.html
Hi, I’m 5 years into full time rv life. However I’m solo. I created a laundry with electric dryer and basecamp washer. Joined up with rv clubs, spend the extra dollars to stay at the same basecamp near family during the holidays. It came in very handy during the pandemic.
That's sounds great. I was solo for a year and think if I ever had to do it again, I would caravan with other solo travelers. Congrats on five years full time RV-ing. I've been dreaming about this life for decades and am now closing in on two years. Love it! Hope to see you in a campground someday!
To keep from going stir crazy being cooped up inside the rig. I invested in the camping cube by ez up. It’s a pole free enclosure with a floor that easily attaches to the frame of my existing ez up. I run a cord out and set up the tv, inflatable sofa and hang a luci lamp. I’m good for hours. Setup and breakdown takes about 30 mins with inflation/deflation.

Do you 2 have a weboost? It helps with internet. Anyway nice video thanks Bob and Deb
We sure do...it does help when there is at least some service. And hi to you Bob and Deb. Thanks for commenting and Paul and I hope to meet you on the road someday.
Yes a we boost can turn 1 bar into 3 and Verizon has the best coverage but there will always be places where even that doesn't work. Some people have 2 plans AT&T plus Verizon but that gets expensive. Take Heart 5G and starlink will one day give us internet everywhere but not today. It does continue to get better. Plus there is a huge difference in weboost systems. Mine has a 25 foot mast that attaches to the side of the RV and the directional antenna draws a much better signal but you have to aim it in the right direction. When you do have internet I use sling TV to get TV. So yes internet is a big deal.

We just started full-time in July of this year ,I think the most important thing is that couples are 100% on the same page with each other. There are challenges and it helps to overcome these. So far so good for us, the only thing that kinda bothers me is my large older black lab it is really difficult to travel with her at temporary spots or road travel i have to lift her in and out of the truck. Definitely something to consider when making this decision. Other than that we are happy with this life style.
Hi Thomas! Congrats on living life on the road! We love it. Yep, older dogs are something to consider. Our dog is 13 and we have to make accommodations for him as he seems to be not liking travel as much.
That was so great that you mentioned about couples needing to be on the same page. You will likely have some stressful travel days. Here's our story about campground stress and our tips: th-cam.com/video/YzzaHgHQGlU/w-d-xo.html
We really enjoyed your video. Great review of some of the downsides to this lifestyle. Everyone should go into this lifestyle with eyes open and not closed BC it can be a big challenge at times. And we have only been on the road since the middle of Feb. 2020. My advice for anyone is to have an emergency fund ready BC things happen in this lifestyle just and they do in your stix and bricks!!!
Thanks so much and congratulations on your new RV life! After two new (Grand Design) campers in a row, I can tell you my last house was the one that was the money pit! If it wasn't the dishwasher then it was the gutters needing replaced or the porch columns rebuilt. Glad to be free of that!
Hope to meet you on the road someday. Happy travels!

Interesting to see what some people value. I always say RV life is humbling. You learn to appreciate having less to deal with and drag around from stuff to people. Although you can never do to much research before hitting the road. I know I wish I'd have watched more videos like this ;-)
Well said! Really, RV life is about living, not about stuff. We talk about that more here: th-cam.com/video/-Yg-JYRwATk/w-d-xo.html
This is a good video. For us the troubles we had were not compensated enough by the fun. We quit after 3 years, and haven't regretted it one day. There are better and cheaper ways to adventure than in an Rv.
Yes, RV life is not for everyone. I agree 100%. Glad you guys gave it a try!
I have 2 laptops. One is strickly tv shows and the other is movies. Then just hook up to your tv and watch. Then, when you are out of new programming, then go to a Starbucks or Tim Hortons and download all the new shows you want to watch. RV life is great for bingewatching when its raining.
Great plan! Glad you have a rainy day strategy, sounds awesome!
You two bring a smile to my face!
Thanks so much! We are so glad to have you on our team. Hugs.
Oooo hunny, I do laundry old school by hand and hang dry still lol. I would go stay on my aunt's farm in Mexico for a few weeks every so often with my grandparents, best learning experiences of my life was learning from them all. Learning to purify water from an open well, raise and dispatch my own food, wash clothing by hand, make my own basic remedies and supplies from nature, etc. And now at 28 I'm much better off and self reliant I realize than many others my age. No washer dryer, no worries, that's for fancy rich ppl lol I'll use elbow grease.
Wow, Bernadette, you could write a book. What a fascinating life! Sounds like a wonderful dream. Thanks for writing-- !

We have lived in our 5th wheel for a year now. We rented out our house to a family member and we have a pad with full hookups in the backyard. COVID has made us planted for a while. When we went to Alaska last year, it was sometimes difficult to find a decent laundromat. (Especially in Seward, Alaska. It was always jam packed). So for me, my #1 drawback is the laundry issue. For my husband, he says some things are a handicap but not drawbacks. We love this lifestyle.
Hi Kathy! Yes, we do, too! Right now I am sitting on a bench outside the laundromat. While it is not my favorite part, it is a very small part of the RV life. We do laundry every 7-10 days. I always bring my computer so I am occupied. We want to go to Alaska someday-- good for you that we went. Agreed that Covid has changed the way RVers travel. Hope to meet you on the road someday-- once you get back to travel.
You have a nice you tube community. I bet that helps you both feel better with this quality connection. I think you both are loved by most of your audience. I enjoy what you do. Thank you!
Awww, you are so sweet. Yes, we feel our viewers are the BEST! Thanks for your comment!
Yup, I for one miss my garage too. However, nothing beats a beautiful lake view or mountain view while doing basic maintenance on our trailer rv or the ford diesel truck while camping...cheers🍺!
Exactly!!! Our thoughts as well! Can't beat the views out here on the road!
25 years living in the cab of a truck as an over the road truck driver, for me living in an RV will be like living in a regular house. As far as internet and cell service when I first went on the road, we didn't have cell phones. Truck stops and pay phones were our means of communication. Over the years I've watched service continue to increase to the point that I now, rarely find area that have no service. It can be limited in some areas of the west, especially Nevada out away from the interstate and major cities but for those areas, I just plan ahead and make sure all ofy communication has been taken care of before heading in to dead zones. I have the advantage of knowing where all of the dead zones are all over the country. Another thing to consider is, plan to check your equipment, tires, fluids, fuel etc... Before heading in to a dead zone. Be aware of how different environments, weather, temps and altitudes affect your equipment and tires and plan accordingly. Especially when traveling through dead zones.
Thanks, John, those are such great tips. Safety always has to be number one. I wrecked a camper once. Here's my video about that, in case you haven't seen it: th-cam.com/video/DKW7chy9i9Q/w-d-xo.html
Safe travels to you!
For the laundry one I have a easy fix. My father was/is a truck driver and I used to go with him as a kid. You can take your RV to a truck stop, have fuel, play some pool, arcades, different restaurants If you don't want to cook, laundry machines, showers, and clothes. You can spend the night in your RV and not have to worry. 98% of truckers are cool guys and don't mean any harm. They just want to do the job and get back home.
Yes, truck stops have a lot to offer, even dump stations! Just wish they weren't so noisy. But we are grateful for the ease of refueling when hitched up with our rig.
I don't RV but have not had my TV turned on for 3 months. Only use it to watch a documentary now and then. I'm a research freak, everything from A-Z. But I can see myself going without access for weeks at a time. The other weeks, I think I would need to camp close to a coffee shop with access. I think that having a companion traveler would be a great asset when things go wrong. Just having the moral support while getting through it.
So true! It was hard when I solo'd for a year. No one to share the tough times with. Many times I dissolved into tears when something broke! I, too, am not a TV watcher. Went TV-free ten years ago. Thanks for your comment!

Having to give up my woodworking was the dealbreaker. I was prepared to give up so much! But I hadn’t thought about hobbies that I love.
And here I sit in a campground with not one but two woodworking shops! That's not the norm, but it is pretty cool that not only is there that but a big building for crafts and sewing. Thanks for watching Cassandra and see you in the next video.
I’m not an R V ‘r , just tuned into your channel out of “ curiosity”. When we were children our mom always had a corrugated “washboard” and did laundry sometimes either in the kitchen sink or the bathtub when our wringer washing machine broke down (often! Since we were 10 kids) . So I found an “older than dirt” wash board, in a junk store , and I like to use it sometimes. Also if the weather is ok I have a multi folded clothes rack , on which I hang out laundry to dry outside or inside mostly overnight. Keep on “ enjoying” your RVr life.
Yes, I have heard how meditative hand washing can be. Maybe I will have to try it. Thanks for watching and commenting!

Liz Amazing Happy Trails To You.🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶
Get your own separate Bluetooth headphones and then you can listen to different things at the same time. You can even listen to your headphones while you're outside the trailer. Perhaps anywhere in your campsite. With the right setup you could listen to the same thing on different headphones at the same time.
That is perfect for a couples! I do use Bluetooth headphones and Paul has Bluetooth earbuds. They really are great for couples living in small spaces. Thank you.
So true I think your partner needs to be your best friend to be in that small space 24/7 ...I dont mind all the other hardships you mention all part of the adventure for me 🥰
Yep, if you can survive trapped in an elevator with your partner, you will do just fine!
This is why I love Amazon Prime. You can usually get next or 2 day deliveries. Great thing when your moving all the time. As for letters and such.....paperless lol. Thank god my Motorhome has a Washer/Dryer already. Slow and small but gets you out of a bind.
Yep! We are also Amazon Prime and do like that there is an Amazon Locker option sometimes. We are finding that these days deliveries are getting delayed.
And I am thinking we may end up with a washer/dryer someday. Or maybe one of those small portable ones, just so I can wash my blouses or if I spill something.
Thanks for your comment and safe travels, Gus!

@@LizAmazing Hi, I have one of the small portable washer/spinner and I love it! Weighs around 20 pounds and is easy to move. Does a good job quickly on most household and clothes. Just have to keep to smaller loads. The spinner really gets about 95% of the water out. I can do a wash load in about 3 minutes, drain- rinse, then spin for about 3 minutes and done!
Good to know! Thanks so much. I think I need to get one. Happy washing to you!
I watched this a while ago and have just re watched it. I am still in sticks n bricks and hoping to hit the road when I retire in 6 months. In Australia there are a few 'on road social clubs' which you can join. It is so good. I joined one and members can arrange meetups on the road. Also members can post questions or suggestions which is very helpful. The one I joined is only for women which is good for those on their own. It is very social.
I love that! I think if I were solo again I would join a group like that so I can have companionship while checking out the sights and safety while camping. You have just six months to go. I hope you have a countdown calendar so you can see the days go by as you get closer. Congrats on your upcoming new chapter in life!
I already down sized a few years ago, don't miss anything, the mail, we only get junk! It's a pain, already signed up for paperless but still get stuff! I love my wash/ dryer machine in my rig, just buy sheets not so high quality then you can wash together the whole set
Sounds like a good plan! Happy travels to you and hope to meet you on the road someday.
Great tips. My wife and I have a nice 5th wheel that is parked in a mobile home park at our lake. It's our home away from home for now. No cell service, limited TV, but it's on a lake with our boat on the dock. We have kicked around the idea of traveling once we are done working. It's almost like we're doing a sort of trial run now, and after some of the pitfalls you mentioned, we're glad we're easing into it. Nicely done!
Thanks so much! Sounds like you have a really sweet spot there on the lake! There are certainly pros and cons to the traveling parts of RV life. If you decide to give it a try, you might still want to hang on to that lake site. Thanks again.
@@LizAmazing Agreed. We have spoken about keeping that as our "summer home" and traveling other times of the year.

I have my RV and a house, I am testing the waters by taking 30 day trips before I go ALL IN . My RV is paid off and I like to Boondock since lots of campgrounds are $70.00 a night. I talk to lots of workcampers when I go to campgrounds and I might try that. Thanks for the video.
Thank you! Yes, campgrounds are crazy-expensive! We have a membership at Thousand Trails. Contact Kim at Campground Membership Outlet and tell her I sent you. The membership is similar to a country club: pay a large upfront fee than a low annual fee. Downsides are Thousand Trail campgrounds are only around the edges of the country. And good for you for giving this lifestyle a trial run- smart!

Thank you for making the video. All the videos I've watched on other channels never talk about the potential downsides.
So glad you found this video helpful. Thanks for watching and see you in the next video.
Very well done and very honest snd I’m only full time in the summer snd after 5 years of full time for 3-4 months per year but all the things you mention are issues. And I’d add cost it’s not an inexpensive way to travel unless you boondock most of the time
Thanks Deborah. That is so cool that you travel every summer. We have a Thousand Trails membership which helps so much. We basically camp for $50 a month, but you would have to be able to justify $600 a year so it may or may not be worth it for you. Here's more info: th-cam.com/video/cbZC97DWFe8/w-d-xo.html
We are not full timers -- but we have purchased a Starlink Satellite system. Our last trip approx 2K miles we had internet at each stop. Perfect connectivity.
Yes! We got one a few months ago and did a review. As long as you are not camping near leafy trees you'll be fine. Happy travels.
Good points!
When I proposed to Hubs that we hit the road for 4-6mos. he was reluctant to give up our wood shop & I said that if we get a toy hauler we could have it with us. He thought that was a great idea, pick up/buy wood wherever we are, make something then it goes from importing raw wood to having a souvenir (if we cross the border to the States). I don’t want to give up the house, I want my crap! And mostly I want a home to come home to, I just want that security for when we can’t travel anymore. Sometimes I want to be gone for just a couple of months so I don’t miss birthdays! And sometimes I just want a smaller rig to haul.
I don’t know how the renting from RV rental companies goes in the US but it is expensive up here, you pay for a period of time you want then you pay per kilometre you travel! You pay PER day to have a second driver and and there are add ones that are per day or a flat rate. The kilometre charge is what makes it expensive if you want to drive across country without rushing & for that amount one can get an used rig!
Laundry: there are those portable washers that seem to be like wringer washers without the ringers. We traveled with just a carry-on bag each & would hand wash...I suspect that is what we’ll do most of the time with a few laundermat visits.
Hi Libby!
A toy hauler is a good answer. I don't like giving up the windows because the weather is not always perfect to have the ramp open. And you're right they can be big. But a good option all the same.
I know there is something like an AirBNB for RV rentals. You'd have to do your homework and still be careful. I have rented an RV from a big company. VERY expensive. But they did say if I purchased one of their rigs, my $3500 would be credited.
I do like the idea of a small washer for those times when I spill something on my shirt.
Thanks so much for your comments. Paul and I would LOVE to visit Canada! So beautiful. Hope to meet you on the road someday!

I'm sure you've heard by now, but you can start looking into Starlink internet. As of now they don't fully support moving frequently but if you do move you can put in a request and they will update your address. Eventually, they plan to have a mobile model but I plan to live full-time RV and think it will work for me as I don't plan to move too often
Yes, we are hoping they will get it ramped up soon for RVers, can't wait! And we are excited that you are going to live full-time in your RV. Happy planning!
Some of the earlier problems like laundry and mail are more of a lack of patience. I think the downside is people wanting all the conveniences of staying put, not to mention instant gratification while living a lifestyle that doesn't necessarily support those demands. Living on the road means adapting and rolling with whatever comes your way. Most of the problems expressed here can be overcome by simply slowing down your life, and dialing back your expectations.
Wise words there, thank you so much! We've met several folks who start out this life on a huge cross country trek super-fast. One couple had been on the road for less than a month and questioning whether this life was for them. We met them in Oregon and they'd left just weeks ago from Florida. WAY too fast!!! I'd want to get out, too, if I went that fast. Too much stress all that driving and too little life.
For laundry, you can get non-electric mini washers that have a foot pump. They are under $100 online and take just a few minutes to get something clean.
Ooh, great idea. I may look into that. Thank you!

Thank you! Hope to see you out there on the road!
I have been solo full time for over four years. My worst issues are 1) finding RV
Parks for extended stay. They are pretty much all booked. 2) DMV. I'm at a different rv park every year and in a different state. I finally picked a home rv
Spot in Tennessee. I will be back at my previous rv park for another winter. That
Will help. Can't reregister my truck until I get back to Tennessee in October. My plate expire the end of August. Could be worse.
I'll have my fingers crossed for you that you get back to Tennessee by October without getting stopped. I think you have a good chance! I did the solo life for a year and am glad I did. Be safe out there.
@@LizAmazing thanks. When I left Tennessee, the DMV was closed due to COVID. So I think I have a good excuse.
My trailer tags are current. That helps too.

There are some very practical and small washer dryers that work well for RVs, failing that, I bought one that is hand-cranked and does 5lbs of laundry, and works well. You could check them out. Just do a little at a time, and just use a commerical laundry for bedding and other large items.
Oooh, I like it. Thanks so much. It would be handy to have a small one for times when I spill something on my shirt. Thanks again!

Was thinking of doing this when retire since my marriage is over with. Thank you for all the info. Some of these things I did wonder about. Did own and went on rv when the gas was much less.
RV life is not for everyone but we sure do love it! Hope to see you out here someday.
My mom back in the day, owned an '72 Opal GT...powder blue back in Germany...She crashed it coming around a mountain when a truck hogged her lane. Cool seeing that pic of vintage truck...
Oh my goodness. A 72 Opal GT- Paul says that's a cool car.
I've been RV living 5 years now and loving it. No mail issues because I receive emails instead of paper. Rather do laundry at the laundromat 8 loads in a hour versus all day at home. Saving money on rent and utilities. Friends who needs them. Lol... Meet new friends daily and when they start acting crazy like most a turn of the key brings change. Save on shoveling mowing grass all this equipment involved. I have a home we go to for repairs and holidays but other then that we are on the road. 3 adults two dogs and a rabbit. 🤷😇
Yay! This sounds like the perfect life for you! It took me 26 years to get out here and now that I am, I can't imagine any other life. It truly is a great life, hope to meet you on the road someday.
If I can come up with an alternative I have no problem with this but thank you for this video, it got me thinking of things I haven’t thought of before
Thanks Katherine, glad to have you with us!
I just subscribed. What a great video! Everyone talks about how great the RV life is, but no one ever talks about the real downsides. One of the best things about this video is I am able to plan on how to answer each of those things you talked about. I am going full time next year and I know the answers to some of the things on your list. But I need to focus on the ones I don't have the answer to. I wouldn't mind hearing even more of the downsides than just 5. I'm not looking for you to trash the lifestyle, but maybe a part two on other ones you didn't include in this video. Thank you for sharing your experiences with me.
Hi and welcome to the A-Team! Reading through the comments, you'll find this is a great community of supportive helpful folks. Paul and I were just talking about that video and we very may well do a follow-up someday. We didn't mention healthcare and getting prescriptions on the road, for example. While the RV life is truly not for everyone, I can honestly say I have never been happier in my life. I was dreaming of this life for 25 years. I don't think I am ever going back! Thanks for your comment and let us know when you get out on the road- Paul and I would love to meet you at a campground someday.

Hi! I saw you asking about how to get internet out there they offer mobile internet it’s just expensive
Yep and there is not coverage everywhere...and that's really what we want. People are mentioning Starlink which will be out later this year. We sure hope that solves the problem. Even so, we LOVE Rv life! Hope to see you on the road!
What a great video. We purchased a vacation home to retire too and are using it as a vrbo. We are going to RV full time for a few years. We are excited but are spending a lot of time researching the cons right now. The internet is a worry for me. I will not be retired while he is. I need to work from my laptop. Thanks for the video.
You are so welcome. We love the RV life but know it's not for everyone so we always want to tell it like it is. We see no end in sight to our travels. But, yes, internet is a real concern. Like we say in the video, we have indeed switched campsites and even campgrounds all in the quest of going online. Paul uses freeroam or campendium to try to forecast what service a park may have. Even campgrounds with wifi will not always solve the problem as their wifi maybe impossibly slow. We are researching options that we have since learned from the A-Team and if we find something noteworthy we will for sure do a video about it. If you haven't already, join the A-Team by subscribing. And if you ring the bell you'll get notified of our next video. Thanks for commenting and we hope to meet you on the road someday!

You are so welcome! Yes there are challenges for sure. Paul and I would not trade this life for living in a house. We see no end in sight to our RV life. Happy trails to you!
thanks for posting this I am currently looking to explore this lifestyle
Awesome! Hope to see you out here!!
I did Rv life for a while. I missed long hot showers with good water pressure and I hated having to crouch in the Rv shower since the shower head is so low. Really missed having a full size kitchen sink and fridge. I had the all in one washer and dryer unit. Yes it shook the 5th wheel but you could adjust rpm speed... 5 pairs of jeans OR 8-9 shirts MAX load size. It was really neat that after the wash it would automatically started the dryer cycle. Yes internet and getting mail was a nightmare! Propane can also be a big pain in the butt! I had a 40ft king of the road with 3 slide outs and it was pulled by a diesel f450. I had two dogs a cat and a snake that traveled with me.
Agreed! I am on my eighth camper and this solves most of the issues- all of which I have dealt with in past RVs. It has a tall shower, large fridge, big double kitchen sink, large hot water tank. This is my first rig with a heat pump. Wow! It takes us three months to go through one of our two tanks of propane. Some parks offer a propane service that will fill up at your campsite, which we just did. We've switched the shower head but not that good pressure like a house. All in all we are happy. Fun that you traveled with a snake! Here's a tour of our rig: th-cam.com/video/aJBzbsDXRII/w-d-xo.html

Wow! A heat pump in a RV. That’s awesome.
We have been full time for 2 years and enjoy the freedom. The toughest thing for us, so far, has been good vet care for our older ill dog. It's really hit or miss out there as to getting quality care for a sick pet. We lost our girl recently and are very far from our home base. Luckily, we found a vet that performs cremation so we won't be forced to bury her in some random area. Something we never gave much thought to before heading out on the road. Lesson learned, no more pets while living a nomadic life.
Awww, so sorry about losing your fur baby. I agree that vet visits can be hit or miss. We took Mango twice to Blaine Animal Hospital in Washington State last week. The vet there is the BEST! We can't say the same thing about VCA in Palm Springs. They were awful.
One thing I remind myself is that each time Mango (who is 13) sees a new vet, he is being seen with fresh eyes so maybe this vet will see something that his regular vet may miss.
Maybe as time passes you will revisit your decision to be pet-free. I know with Mango he has only needed special visits in the past year so he's been healthy and just needing shots and checkups along the way.
Happy travels to you!
Your so kind. You make a good point about different eyes perhaps seeing the dog in a new light. I really enjoy your content. The two of you are so positive and friendly. Keep up the great work! 😊

We used to own a Class A
motorhome and spent 2+ months living in it. We drove from Alberta. My husband is super mechanical & got a lot of ribbing about his “motorhome in a box “ .But carrying spare parts saved us many times! Our motto was “it is not will we break down, but when?
We drove every year to Palm Springs- yes through mountain passes in the winter.
Glad to know. I think we are going to stay with our fifth wheel for now. But we are definitely tempted. As you know, high maintenance tho!
On the plus side are exploring new places and possibly finding a great spot to stay awile!!
