A fun step by step video course on how to solve sudoku puzzles from beginners to advanced levels. It's FREE!
If you liked it please click on the Thumbs up icon under the video.
One of the biggest mistakes beginners make is to put all possible numbers in each cell. This a lot of work and not necessary until you get to the very advanced puzzles. If a possible number can go in a row, column or block more than twice do NOT put that number in those empty cells. If a possible number can ONLY go in a row, column or block twice then put that number in each of the 2 cells.
As you progress you will find that this is technique makes it not only less messy, but easier to solve.

Remember what proceure to take and what to look for. e.g. if there are 2 empty cells in a row, column or block, then you have a"matching pair"

Hey you are on the right track....never guess and always look for ram. For the business expenses, you have listed your mileage but there are no numbers for Gas, Car Insurance, Repairs and Maintenance.

I used to fill the blank squares with numbers just like you mentioned at the beginning. I realise now that it was making solving the sudoku much harder. Loving these tutorials. Learning so much to make solving easier and more accurate.

Really amazing technique, till now I wasn't using it and randomly searching everywhere to fill in a particular no. But this really helped me get clarity where a particular no. can be placed. I agree. Liniit it to 2 small numbers per cell, add one small number in only 2 cells in a row column or block. Look at tutorial #60 when it is up loaded soon. When you reach very difficult puzzles when you get stuck then it is when you may have to add all possible numbers in an empty cell.

I would recommend using a different colored marker to differentiate added-numbers from those that were originals.
As for the intro puzzle, its complexity is something you might want to cover because it has an interesting solution phase, where finding a group of IF/THEN blocks will get you over the hump.
Thanks for your comments. You will see that later when I do more difficult puzzles I actually use colours.

I’m starting lesson four. Hopefully it will unlock enough tricks to solve my first Sudoku. I’m struggling with my first “easy” and starting to think it’s an experts easy.
Hang in there ORflycaster. You should be able to solve easy puzzles by the time you get to lesson 7. Sometimes they say an easy puzzle is easy yet it is difficult. So much depends on what you know and the procedure you use. Makes sure you establish a procedure for all puzzles and stick to it.
I strongly suggest you start at lesson, 1 and work you way up to leasson 7
I started on lesson one and stopped after lesson seven for today. My brain hurts!

I used to do that when I started doing these puzzles I would have a bunch of numbers in the box and it'd take me 3 times as long to do the puzzles as it does now.
Hi Jessica. The champions and I use the snyder notation which simply means no more than 2 little numbers in a cell and a small number is only put in 2 cells. no more. The time may come with very difficult puzzles where you have to enter more than 2 small numbers in a cell.

Do matching pairs only count when they are in the same block? or can they be considered as matching pair in different blocks but same row or column too, please?

How can we make sure that it is matching pairs and we can’t add one or two more numbers in that cell ?
You can vy simply noting that only those 2 numbers can go in that cell. As you go further to more advanced puzzles there are times when you can find hidden matching pairs. Robin

I have to do a Sudoku assignment so I looked at this video for help, I understand the basics, and I know how to do it but I keep getting confused because I don't know how to start, and then I will do random ones and get lost.
Avoid doing the random ones. Learn to have a procedure. TMB then LCR, then matching pairs, then cross/meet techniques.
Please recommend me the book from beginner to advance level of Sudoku
There are many however iIsuggest Will Shortz books as they are checked by a team before they are published. These books have one puzzle per page. (less messy) You can purchase these books at book stores or on Amazon. Amazon is cheaper.

Love your tutorials. I’m really new to sudoku and the book gifted to me doesn’t follow your LCR logic. As you can see in my picture, in the last set of bottom 3 blocks, the number 8 is left, centre and left again. How do you solve these puzzles? As the TMB and LCR logic together doesn’t get it right.

@@mumbaim7124 Hi Mumbai. Yes the TMB and LCR works. If I understand you correctly the cell #2 in row 9 cannot be an 8 because there is an 8 in column 2 above.
