    I always appreciate what you like or dislike from patterns . I'm tired of buying patterns not knowing if there's a problem with the pattern or if it needs to be modified.... ex. sleeves. I write down the ones I like along with your suggestions!

    Hello, I’m a first time viewer . Your projects are looking beautiful, the shawl is going to be a fabulous piece for the holidays. I don’t know what you’re doing right with your camera set up that other’s can’t figure out but you’re showing yarn and projects close up and it’s not blurry! Yay you!

    On your Whitmoor cardigan, I think the lace pattern is definitely adding to the bumps you are seeing from the short rows. Another factor could be if your sleeve gauge is slightly smaller than the gauge you got in the lace section. I've realized that I tend to knit more tightly on smaller circumferences than I do with larger, in part because I use magic loop for smaller circumferences. So I generally go up a needle size on the sleeves compared to the body. Not sure if that is what happens for you, but you might want to check and see if that's a factor as well. These sorts of situations are how we learn and become more adept at producing FOs that fit us perfectly.

      @Some_sticks_n_string 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I agree. I made the whitmoor pullover and I have the bump too. I re-knit a whole sleeve to make it less tight and to get rid of the bump. I think the bump is from the lace but really blocking that part of the sleeve to sit more flat has helped. I wear mine all of the time and have stopped looking at that detail.

    Super thanks for sharing about the Weekend Hat! I have purchased 100g of DK yarn while on my travels and was highly debating making the Weekend. Your hat is beautiful, but know now that this pattern may not be the best option (e.g., not enough wool, the fit of the tip when the hat is pulled down to cover the ears). I will continue to be in search of the perfect hat pattern for this yarn. Love your review!

    If you decide to rip back the sleeves on your cardigan, I would suggest going up a needle size. Andrea Mowry suggests doing this in her patterns as some people knit tighter in a smaller circumference

    Hi Emily, on your cardigan, have you tried maybe steam blocking that one area? Maybe you can stretch the lace pattern a bit to decrease the look of the bubble. Or even re-block it and pinning above and below. I didn’t even notice it until you pointed it out so people probably wouldn’t see it. But I know if I have an area that looks wrong to me, then it will bug my\e until I fix it. I just finished a colorwork sweater, the Lumme and I jotted down how many rows the ribbed cuff was on the sleeve, so that I could match it with the other. We;l I never looked at the other sleeve, which I always do! I did an Icelandic bind off, and tried it on just to see that one cuff was shorter than the other. And there is a colorwork wrist above it. I couldn’t get the bond off undone very well so I finally took scissors to it. 🫣Then it unraveled all the way beck to the colorwork! I was freaking out. But I got it together and fixed it. And now it is blocking. It would’ve drove me nuts even though it was maybe 1-2 rows different. So I fixed it. But if I had to go all the way back….. ugh! 😩 I hope you get some good suggestions and can get around that somehow.

    The fun thing about brioche is, once you understand it, it's pretty easy. And I totally agree about the squishiness! I'm now knitting Petite Knit's September sweater, and I regularly stop to squish 😆

  • @imaknits
    @imaknits 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +9

    For the short rows in the cardigan, I would do the short rows after splitting for sleeves! I saw it done on the Lumme Pullover by Sari Nordlund, and i think it would fix the bubbling of the sleeves! (i mean if you decide to try it on another cardigan because I can’t imagine you ripping all of it just to correct a barely visible bump ahahaha)

    • @denimkarma
      @denimkarma 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I Second this. I knit the Lumme sweater first and now knitting on the Super Selene sweater and with this, the short rows are worked before splitting for sleeves. I do not love the short row curve in the sleeves and don’t have that problem with the Lumme sweater at all.

    The Badger and Bloom sweater by Anne Ventzel is a circular yoke with short rows after the colour work before the split for sleeves and I really like the fit of that sweater!

  • @ximasillygoosex
    @ximasillygoosex 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I would just block the bottom portion on those sleeves hardcore. Below the lace, stretch it out really intensely to make the sleeve wider. It will help with length and the bump and with super wash I bet it would make a big difference

    About the whitmoor cardigan, I wonder, if it being a circular yoke mattered too. I have made two circular yoke sweaters (without short rows) and both of them have the same effect as yours (and I never seen this effect in any other construction). I think it's because the way we increase in this construction. If you have a tighter gauge in the sleeves it may have exagerated it a bit. It still looks lovely! The hat is beautiful too, I love the colour!

    I have the exact same issue with my weekend hat! I was trying to point out how tight it molds around the crown of my head and I felt crazy describing it to some of my friends 🫠 Glad to know I'm not alone - I found I didn't have this same problem with the hipster hat

    I think I had done short rows in the same place as yours in the Ankers Pullover (original pattern has no short rows) and it did not make any bubbles. To me it seems that sleeve bubbles come from switching from lace pattern to the stockinette. I would try to steam press it gently perhaps inserting like a “pressing ham”, and leave it to dry in that position. I love your podcast

    Agree with you about shawls, i wear scarfs.more because they stay in place.
    I did not know about the Andrea Mowry….will look it up, seems my cup of tea as well.
    About the sleeve shaping🤔 it happens….and sometimes the sleeves are great. I think it has to do with the placement of increases and short rows are a kind of increases too. Got me thinking too. As I am thinking why the frontneck is sometimes bolding up when people move. I do not like that either. All comes down to shaping and good designers and learning I guess

    Oh, the agony of sleeves that are too long! As I watch this episode, I am redoing the bottom of the sleeves on my Champagne Cardi. They looked perfect before blocking and then grew about 4" too long. I would never have thought they'd grow so much, but I don't have the experience to know such things! I am just getting into garment knitting after many years of blankets and accessories, and I am definitely learning a lot! It's encouraging to see that more experienced knitters like you are still learning and experimenting along with me! :) I have watched most of your episodes and really appreciate your thoughtful commentary. Thanks! PS I remember you mentioning you used some online tool that predicted good colors for you. Can you share what website you used? I think the jewel tones you're going with on some of your recent projects really do look great on you.

    I love your projects! With the Witmoor Cardigan, a way to not have that extra amount of fabric in the sleeves is to just split for sleeves as soon as possible and make the short rows after that with the turn points in the underarms

    For the cardigan: I think you do the short rows after you split for sleeves. I’ve knitted a sweater before that had some short rows on the body instead of the yoke and you knit them after splitting for sleeves. There’s the free tincan knits sweater pattern that has some explanation about this I think

    Superwash is not my favorite and now I only use it for socks, mittens and occasionally hats. I have used some that had that rubbery feel as well as some that did not. The "rubbery" yarn was the worst.

I have to say I'm struggling a lot with my weekend hat, already up to a 4mm needle and I feel like I'm gonna end up with a baby size hat instead of the Medium one I'm aiming for ... However, you do wave your knitting around like you're doing the floss dance or waving a flag and for people with dyspraxia or similar it can be quite distracting.
