The law UK states that Mace, if administered by a police officer, must be sprayed from a minimum 5 feet distance. That officer sprayed it from point blank range, just like the other one who did it to Tommy R.!!
Secondly, always have the doors locked and windows up if the police pull you over in the UK, and never ever stop and get out of your vehicle.
Finally. A police officer should always ID his/her name rank and station and immediately inform you of their reasons for stopping you. This is called protocol. Once they've ID explained, etc, the stop, then the same UK law says you must comply with all reasonable demands..
So the driver here is correct. They failed on every single protocol thats been put in place for their safety and the public! The problem is that those uniforms are available to buy by anyone, so the protocol that's in place becomes very important, because you at that time don't know for sure if the police are even real police. They could be about to Rob you under the guise of being police.
Remember protocol protocol protocol. It's very important, trouble is nowadays everyone wants to take shortcuts, my old man once told me. Shortcuts lead to Fuck ups.!!!!!

I've heard people in the past say that is nonsense if they have a uniform on its obvious their police.I was in a truck once when we got a police car pull us into a lay by with vosa guys.Got us out vehicle and stole it.All fake uniforms and cars it's more common than people believe it is.We got training at company if stopped by police etc lock doors put window down a little and we had bits of paper saying why we wouldnt open doors etc and happy to follow them to nearest police station.Because of goods being transported company stuck with you saying your following as instructed.

      Well said
Also the mace being sprayed that close is against all training and documentation for the use of it.
Misuse can cause permanent injurys or even death. They are well aware of this from all the training and safety sheets produced for the use of mace in duty

Police policy (at least in my area and I see no reason for it to be different elsewhere) states that they must identify themselves (name and number) especially when asked to do so!
That's why they have numbers on they're shoulders and carry warrant cards! They are also required to state that they are filming, at the earliest opportunity!
To say that they don't need to identify is absolute bollocks and abuse of police powers! Had they identified themselves properly when asked, this certainly wouldn't have escalated to the point it did!
Just because someone is wearing a uniform and claims to be a police officer, doesn't actually mean they're a police officer!
My opinion is that they didn't want to identify because they knew they were being filmed!

We need to stop asking them to ID themselves. Ask to see their warrant card, then ask for their collar number, the station they work out of. There have been a number of thefts, assaults, and house robberies by conmen dressed as an official police officer. It is their duty, to ID as soon as possible.

So many comments about how robbers can buy police uniform online. C'mon be real here, robbers don't go to the extent of purchasing body cams, radios, and marked police cars to attempt a robbery on a man in a van. You both could of handled this much more rationally and calmly!
