@system7962 it's such an all-around package at a very reasonable price. I can't think of any bike that competes in this sector. Just bought the 2024 RS 660 and cannot wait to take him out on the road this week, since it will be nice and hot in the Southwest. Thanks for the video my friend. That stars and stripes hittin thoiugh. I got the black.
I had the same issues with my 22 rs660. You should’ve gotten the updated linkages, the fact that yours is still moving tells me that it’s not. I have done over 17k miles with the new linkage and it won’t budge. Also the oil leak is typically just the stator cover gasket and it’s only a noticeable leak when your oil is old depending on how hard you ride. I normally change mine anywhere from 1500-2700 miles and recently changed to a slightly thick oil for the hotter temps which eliminated the loud ticking due to the lifters since mine has some miles on it and the engine feels healthier
I have the Stars and Stripes also. Mine leaked old from the shaft seal around the water pump. Oil dripped out of the water pump housing weep hole. The dealership fixed it in like 4 hours. For GP Shift, you just need to take that shift rod (you know, the one that came loose) and just flip it 180'. Take a 10mm Hex and loosed the bolt. Remove and flip. You may need to slightly adjust to make sure your shifter can freely move up and down. Re-adjust he the shift lever by turning the rod to move it up and down. Dont forget to tighten the lock screws. Then turn the bike on and run through the gears. Your should see an R on the bottom of the screen next to the quick shifter icon that usually blinks orange or black. Great bike, I have the Tuono 660 Factory and came from a 09 ZX6R. Love the twin so much more.
The RS660 looks great and sounds good, but Kawasaki has those 4cyl screamers that sound great too. The RS660 is more well rounded, but the ZX-6R is a speed weapon. Its all down to what you're looking for.

I never understood the "too much power for the street" angle....isn't "too much power" the selling - and buying - point of modern sport bikes? They are intentionally designed to be outrageously fast and ridden at highly illegal speeds. And when manufacturers underpower their sport bikes (Yamaha R7, U.S. version of the Kawasaki ZX-4RR) the public rightfully bitches and moans. I just sold an RC 51 partly because the bike was absurdly slow compared to the ZX-9R I previously had....But to each their own. I will say this little Aprilia is a great looking bike - just needs another team of horses hitched to the wagon.
Kaleb De Keyrel @KD51 won the 2021 MotoAmaerica Championship on the Aprilia RS 660. He was racing for Robem Engineering. The livery for the team was BLACK and RED. For the your version there’s an option in the menu where you can reverse the shift. Also if you wanna charge how it looks the farings actually aren’t too hard to swap out
@@theupstandingcitizens To switch to GP (race) shift pattern, you need to pull the shift rod off (the piece that you pulled on, and said can sometimes fall off) and rotate it 180 degrees so that it rotates the opposite direction. Also, if your RS660 is like mine, then you'll need to use Up-Map, get the Aprilia race ECU, or have dealership reprogram your ECU so it will switch the quickshifter/auto-blipper to work with the GP shift pattern.

Thank you for the video. I'm in the process of purchasing a 21 rs 660 with 2300 miles. Did you replace the entire exhaust system? What was the cost if you don't mind my asking.
The Suzuki was definitely faster, but it required a lot more pushing by revving it out. The Aprilia is still quick, but if I want to go, I twist the throttle and that torque gets me going regardless of my RPMs. If I knew I was going to encounter traffic, I'm taking the Aprilia.
got excited about cruise control, lol never used it. Tried it of course but lol just way better with you just controlling the throttle and coming form a single thumper the vibrations on the p-twin doesnt bother me at all. Lol shit is luxurious.
You could, but I would recommend buying a used Ninja 400 or something around that size engine. If you drop them you won't feel as bad as dropping the $12k Aprilia.
I've personally never dropped a bike, but I've been close. There have been some gravely intersections I've stopped on when I put my foot down, my foot didn't stay planted. Luckily I have longer legs so i was able to save it.
Would it make a good starter bike? I'm getting ready to buy a bike and strongly leaning toward the acid gold RS 660. I don't wanna go get a 400 and outgrow or get tired of it within 6 months.
@MiguelMyBikeGuy I'm getting a late start I'm 52. That giddy school boy, that thinks let's hit triple digits on the road is long gone. Have a 1.8 more road course 30 min away. I'm keeping the high speed there.
I'm debating into buying either the RS 660 and the Tuono 660. Do you have any comments on this? Have you tested by any chance the Tuono? Does the RS660 have so much more of an aggressive stance that would make so uncomfortable to ride it for daily commutes?
I haven't tried the Tuono just because I'm not much into naked bikes. But aside from fairings and seating position, they're the same bike. Why not try both to see which is better for you?
Aside from ergos, how do u like the power compared to your old 600? I'm on a 600 now, but I keep revs up around 8/10k while cruising so going fast from a roll on isn't a problem. What I don't like is the scream lol. Have a v twin too and the sound is way better
I like it. The power is lower down than my GSXR 600 was, which is good. So if I'm cruising and I want to overtake someone, I don't really have to drop a gear. Just twist the throttle and that torque pulls me through
Well in 2 years of ownership i had my starter die other than that it's doing fine. Note it has perfect living conditions and it's basically a weekend toy that doesn't do long distance
@@theupstandingcitizens Oh yeah on windy days i don't even bother riding 😆. I wouldn't do highway with it unless i must it's made for twisty roads and that's where i use it. I sometimes wonder if the new mt09 would be better for me i catch myself riding only with my right hand sitting upright lol.
hi mate great informative video 🙏🏽 i have a 2006 zx10r and i'm thinking of downgrading to 600 cc and i do have my eyes on one of these, 1000 cc is too much even though in germany we have no speed zones 😎 but still I think for a normal guy 600 cc is also enough as I have never fully used the power zx10r! do you recommend this bike ? cheers
I would. It's more fun riding a slower bike fast, than a fast bike really slow. That zx10r could probably go around town in first gear alone. I love the bike
also remember that a 600 inline 4 like a zx6, is a different beast to an rs660. a zx6 will have much less torque and get almost all of its power high in the rpm's like your zx10r. the rs660 is much more enjoyable for street riding imho. and more comfortable too in most cases. you may know this already, but since u said you are thinking of getting a 600...
I bought the Touno instead of the RS660 because of traffic in LA and my back. My first upgrade on my bike was to remove the ugly orange warning stickers that the US government requires manufacturers to place on the bike,
I dont have a tune but the exhaust was nearly $1500 and labor was $150 to install. I'm thinking of getting the Aprilia Race ECU, but I don't want to spend the money lol
I am looking at getting this bike as well and can’t decide between this and the Panigale V2. How tall are you? I feel I’d be too tall at 6’1 but I’m only 180lbs.
I'm 6'1 but I'm way heavier than 180lbs lol! The V2 looks really nice as well. I feel a Ducati will be in my stable in the future. For now, the RS660 is doing a hell of a job.
I'm 6'2" but someone who only likes long, late dinners as much as I love sport bikes. I can tell you that 180 is about what all of these bikes are set up for from the factory. All the rest - such as weight on the wrists etc - are a matter of practice and priorities.
Actually the RS660 was designed to be something between a city bike and sport bike so it's much less committed to the track as the V2 or other Japanese 600cc sportbikes
The thinner width of the r7 is only at the front end, especially compared to the r6 for obvious reasons. Zero impact on the concerns you have and it actually makes it more comfortable for bigger people because you have more room
@@theupstandingcitizens where are you? I’d still take the aprillia all day tbc, as long as I have a dealer nearby and maintenance quirks won’t break you
Always..Always ...wear ur gear. I've never had serious experiences... Not that bad... cars have pulled out in front of me after seeing me 100% at intersections they (cars & SUV's & women dr8vers are almost as bad as dudes running late for work) it's always, oh I didn't see you!!! So always wear ur gear!
I’m 5’6 and sat on one of these and you should be fine. It’s also good that it’s super lightweight which gives you confidence on handling the bike. The only thing I worry about is reliability. I’ve a lot of people that have had issues. Granted you or I might get one that doesn’t have any issue it do I want to take that chance especially if it’s a greater chance than say a Japanese bike. I’m leaning more towards an MT-10 or Triumph street triple r.
If it was your main commute vehicle, I would definitely recommend a Japanese bike. For me, it's only gonna be ridden one or twice a week as a quick little around town blaster. As Drake said "I'm here for a good time, not a long time" and for what I use it for, it's perfectly flawed. 👌🏼
BOUT TIME I HEARD someone else complain how gsxr 600's look from the front. Disgusting. I dont get their design team. Suzuki is lacking largely in the design side of things compared to others. Especially the new kawasaki snd of course Yamaha
It’s a sweet looking bike. I love the stars and stripes livery. I almost bought one of these last year. I went with the street triple RS, which I LOVE. I do with it had cruise control though. My next bike will be the RSV4. Good pass on the R7. That bike is a joke. So underpowered and weak all around.
Do you ride only on a highway? only then it will feel weak. It's the same as the mt07 cp2 twin. And it's punchy and fun all around.. unless you want to hit 250 kmph on a straight road.
Personally I don't like the reliability issues it has, it turns me off completely from it. I'd go for either the r7 or the upcoming zx4r if I was in the market for a middle weight sportbike, but I'm not really, I've been postponing getting a motorcycle license ever since the covid pandemic started so when I do get it I'll be going for a light weight bike like the ninja 400 or r3 and most definitely 2nd hand.
@@theupstandingcitizens what? They make the same power tho for the same money but the zx4r has more electronic gizmos and a inline 4 instead of twin. Are you confusing it with the ninja 400 or what?
@@theupstandingcitizens I think we were talking about reliability not looks, that's how I originally started. And looks are subjective, everyone's eyes function the same but their brain likes different things. Now some people's brains don't function right and don't understand things like reliability, form over function, or what the topic of the discussion is. That's a different story. The zx4r fits in nicely price wise around the r7 and makes similar power, both are less than the rs660, has the same kind of electronic gizmos as the rs660 which the r7 doesn't have, and has a screeming inline 4 which the 2 others don't have. I don't know about you buddy, but that's clearly better in my opinion, who cares about 22 more hp if the thing's going to end up in service at some point and remain there for like months. I've seen a bunch of people complain about reliability on this bike and on aprilia in general and I just don't see why you'd spend more on a bike that could end up staying more in the shop instead of on the road just because of 22 hp?
Finally, all I had to do to get a good conversation is talk smack. I do love the scream of an inline 4cyl, but that's a problem if you're gonna use the ZX4R anywhere on the street. You're gonna have to ring it out to nearly 14k rpm to use the 67lbs/ft of torque. The Aprilia can be in 3rd gear doing 20mph, and twisting the throttle will still get you moving quick with its parallel twin. Also, reliability and pricing is such a boring metric. By that logic, buy a Honda Grom. Ultra reliable and way less expensive than that $10,000, 400cc Ninja. I love the Kawasaki line of sport bikes, but im left scratching my head as to why they thought it would do well in the U.S.
Personally, I feel the RS660 is the best looking bike to be released in years, not to mention an all around very competant machine.
I agree.
forreal, cant name a single better looking sportbike. Not even the RSV4

Just twist the throttle and that torque pulls me through
@@theupstandingcitizens on the zx6r I can cruise at 130 in 5th without screaming. Can the rs get up there in mph or does it have a lower top end?
@@FlacomanXD i believe the rs has a top speed of 140
is this suitable for someone with dirt bike experience as first ?
It's 100hp so it's not anything too crazy
Did you have to tune the bike after you put the race exhaust on it?
I'm assuming that there is no catalytic, right? I like the sound and I might do it
No tune and straight pipe. I definitely recommend doing it!
Bro really got the french shoes 🤣
🤣🤣
Take my sub, I'm so keen to start riding soon.
Do it, do it!
Well in 2 years of ownership i had my starter die other than that it's doing fine. Note it has perfect living conditions and it's basically a weekend toy that doesn't do long distance
The wind blows me around if it's strong enough so I see what you mean about not long distance
@@theupstandingcitizens Oh yeah on windy days i don't even bother riding 😆. I wouldn't do highway with it unless i must it's made for twisty roads and that's where i use it. I sometimes wonder if the new mt09 would be better for me i catch myself riding only with my right hand sitting upright lol.
you 100% should have a tune when doing a full exhaust, its probably super lean and thats why you have flames.
Gotcha
Nope... the flames are from unburnt fuel in the exhaust. A tune does help though, but is not technically required.
@@stuartstogdill2406 its required if you remove the cats on any bike or car.
hi mate great informative video 🙏🏽 i have a 2006 zx10r and i'm thinking of downgrading to 600 cc and i do have my eyes on one of these, 1000 cc is too much even though in germany we have no speed zones 😎 but still I think for a normal guy 600 cc is also enough as I have never fully used the power zx10r! do you recommend this bike ? cheers
My first upgrade on my bike was to remove the ugly orange warning stickers that the US government requires manufacturers to place on the bike,
Nice. My first change was the tail tidy
What year is this motorcycle?
2022
@@theupstandingcitizens do you still love it? I’m debating getting one of these or the new Triumph Street Triple Rs. What do you think?
Still love my bike
I have the 132/1500 rs660 stars and stripes.
I'm 534 / 1500
How much was the exhaust and tune plus labor if you don’t mind me asking? I am #532 you are the closest number I have seen 😮
I dont have a tune but the exhaust was nearly $1500 and labor was $150 to install. I'm thinking of getting the Aprilia Race ECU, but I don't want to spend the money lol
Great looker,no doubt.
Agreed!
Actually the RS660 was designed to be something between a city bike and sport bike so it's much less committed to the track as the V2 or other Japanese 600cc sportbikes
holy shit yjust like me have a g70 3.3 "23 spprt prestige and a aprilia we livin life mannnng
Nice!
Still no regrets?
Nope
is it your first bike
Second bike, but my first new one. My first was a 2007 GSX-R 600
@@theupstandingcitizens damn you learned riding on that
Ya, I do not recommend learning on a Supersport
@@theupstandingcitizens yeah :D ima get this one as my beginner bike lol.
Very cool! I love mine. I recommend leaving it in commute mode until you get proficient at riding
The thinner width of the r7 is only at the front end, especially compared to the r6 for obvious reasons. Zero impact on the concerns you have and it actually makes it more comfortable for bigger people because you have more room
I'd love a chance to check out an R7. Let me know if you know of anyone who would let me test one
@@theupstandingcitizens where are you? I’d still take the aprillia all day tbc, as long as I have a dealer nearby and maintenance quirks won’t break you
oil drips??? in 2024? i think you just took it off my short list
Gear shift arm, tighten the Allen key bolt… before it falls off, jeez…..
It'll be fine.....😶🌫️
Always..Always ...wear ur gear. I've never had serious experiences... Not that bad... cars have pulled out in front of me after seeing me 100% at intersections they (cars & SUV's & women dr8vers are almost as bad as dudes running late for work) it's always, oh I didn't see you!!! So always wear ur gear!
Tell that to Harley Riders
Não temos a Aprillia oficialmente no Brasil...😢😢
That sucks
There is a 2021 for sale near me but due to my bad ankle, I would have to go with an automatic DCT. what is this quick shifter?
Shifting without using the clutch
@@theupstandingcitizens The Clutch is not the problem. It's the shifter. I can't get my foot under the lever like that.
See i am 5’5” you think i will be to small for this bike?
I’m 5’6 and sat on one of these and you should be fine. It’s also good that it’s super lightweight which gives you confidence on handling the bike. The only thing I worry about is reliability. I’ve a lot of people that have had issues. Granted you or I might get one that doesn’t have any issue it do I want to take that chance especially if it’s a greater chance than say a Japanese bike. I’m leaning more towards an MT-10 or Triumph street triple r.
Head over to your local Aprilia dealer and see if you can swing a leg over one.
Idk I’m 5ft8 n I gotta tippy toe this bike n that was the main reason I went with the ducati supersport over the ape.
Nice. Either way, being on two wheels is amazing. Congrats
Fiability ?
What does that mean?
@@theupstandingcitizens Reliability is not very good on this engine apparently. And the after sales service is rather absent, in case of problem.
If it was your main commute vehicle, I would definitely recommend a Japanese bike. For me, it's only gonna be ridden one or twice a week as a quick little around town blaster. As Drake said "I'm here for a good time, not a long time" and for what I use it for, it's perfectly flawed. 👌🏼
okay so miguel since your my bike guy imma need my bike back please lol
I'll sell it to you. Just pay me a profit and it's yours.
Red, white, blue helmet? Check out the AGV Pista RR Mir cota helmet. Even got the bike matching stars on it… beautiful thing… 👍☺️
That's effing perfect! Thanks so much! Now I just need to convince myself to spend the coin. 😅
I thought, I was watching someone with 1 million subs.
Hopefully I'll get there soon
"we are doing my 6th month review" and lets put a title "one year of owning an Aprilia RS660"
Ok
Ok what?
Cleveland? Expo Ctr?
Nope, Orlando
❤💥
BOUT TIME I HEARD someone else complain how gsxr 600's look from the front. Disgusting. I dont get their design team. Suzuki is lacking largely in the design side of things compared to others. Especially the new kawasaki snd of course Yamaha
Yep
It’s a sweet looking bike. I love the stars and stripes livery. I almost bought one of these last year. I went with the street triple RS, which I LOVE. I do with it had cruise control though.
My next bike will be the RSV4. Good pass on the R7. That bike is a joke. So underpowered and weak all around.
Nice! Thanks man! The RSV4 sounds wicked too
Do you ride only on a highway? only then it will feel weak.
It's the same as the mt07 cp2 twin.
And it's punchy and fun all around.. unless you want to hit 250 kmph on a straight road.
bike is powerful, lightweight, beautiful etc , but the sound is terrible both stock and sport exhaust
I like the pops and bangs
He lost me at "normal oil drips".
They fixed it tho
Just a lil oil drip… nothing to see here… oh .. and the quick shifter can fall off…lol who needs a dependable bike with parts readily available…lol
Exactly
Too many techs nobody need it. Cut all that crap and put the price affordable and will be the best choice!!
Maybe they will
Personally I don't like the reliability issues it has, it turns me off completely from it.
R7 is nice but the zx4r? Nah, better to get a cruiser since they're designed to go slow.
@@theupstandingcitizens what? They make the same power tho for the same money but the zx4r has more electronic gizmos and a inline 4 instead of twin. Are you confusing it with the ninja 400 or what?
The ZX4R makes 77hp. The RS660 100. Plus it looks better to me....and everyone else with functional eyes 😝
I love the Kawasaki line of sport bikes, but im left scratching my head as to why they thought it would do well in the U.S.
i was looking at buying one of theses, bought a ZX6r instead, no regret at all, if anything i very glad i didnt buy the Rs660.
What year ZX6R?
