Masters of the Cuban Tres | César Hechavarría (El Lento) | Improvisation on Capullito De Alehlí

In this lesson El Lento is improvising over the "montuno" or solo section of the song Capullio De Alehlí. The chord progression at its basic from is D7 and G Major which is just a V7 to I chord progression in the key of G Major but, El Lento really demonstrates his amazing ability to superimpose chordal ideas, play "upper Structure Triads" and play "outside" the underlying harmony.
On guitar is the phenomenal Cuban musician, Luis Morales Castellanos who actually was the one who introduced me to El Lento. Luis begins expanding on the basic harmony as well which really allows El Lento to be creative. The accompaniment of Luis is really quite fantastic.
