    Just watched the video. Also have a pair with 4 day old fry. Feeding frozen daphnia, sinking pellets and first bites. Very interesting to watch the parents tend to their fry.

      Hi, so basically just leave the parents with the frys together or need to remove them?

    Hi,I'm trying to breed these too.i wanted to compare the sexes. In your video,which one was the male and female?I see a size difference in yours but the pair I have, the female is a little bigger with even trailers on tail fin and a visibly bigger rounder breeding tube.
    My male is slightly smaller with longer tail fin trailers the top being longer,and a pointer breeding tube.id really like to here some feedback if you have time.ty.

    dont they eat their fry ?

    • @southsidesky
      @southsidesky 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      the reason so many aquarists keep cichlids is the many different ways that the parents guard and rear their fry, and all species of cichlids exhibit some kind of parental care.

    • @aquariumaddictions7672
      @aquariumaddictions7672 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@southsidesky well discus do not prey on their fry even after they grow . do geophagus care for their fry same as discus ?

    • @southsidesky
      @southsidesky 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@aquariumaddictions7672 NO fish care for their fry the way discus do. the baby discus feed on a slime from the sides of their parents and need this food for their first few weeks. most Geophagus are mouthbrooders, and take great care of their babies. some geophagus species take the babies into their mouths immediately and others are called delayed mouthbrooders and take the fry in their mouth after they hatch. the parents will care for the babies this way until the babies get too big to fit in their mouths or until the fry become independent and wander away from their parents. in an aquarium, the geophagus parents will protect and care for their babies for months. the point i was making is that ALL cichlids provide some kind of parental care and protection for their babies.
