Story: The Awakening of Flora is a short ballet. It begins with Flora, the goddess of spring asleep with her nymphs. Diana, goddess of the moon, guards their sleep. An icy wind comes and chills Flora and she begs Aurora, goddess of the dawn for help. The god of day, Apollo, comes to her rescue and falls in love with Flora. The rest of the ballet celebrates the wedding of Flora and Apollo.

Svetlana Ivanova had the most lovely lyrical quality. Beautiful solo. Beautiful dancer. She has a very unique and crystaline quality. Porcelain but fluid. In her simple, quiet way, she rivets you.

She’s truly wonderful... could be a prima ballerina. From what I know she was actually given a couple of leading roles at the start of her career (Aurora and Masha from Nutcracker if I’m not mistaken). She then moved abroad to dance for Neumeier’s (he himself offered her a position) company and was successful there. However, as Svetlana admitted in one interview, she didn’t feel happy there, felt alone and missed her loved ones, and therefore decided to come back to Mariinsky. Since then her career kind of stood still... A couple of years ago she was given an opportunity to dance Giselle but unfortunately injured her knee just before the debut. I’ve also heard that she doesn’t feel comfortable dancing solo parts and is pretty satisfied with how her career is. I see her on stage very often in corpse de ballet scenes and little solo variations... she always stands out

@@Se_lissI agree with you in full. Svetlana has a lot of her ballet fans, and they (I am among them) are so disappointed with her career. She is very talented. I watched her in pas de deux from Giselle some time ago, it was remarkable. As I know it is possible to find some fragments of her Aurora in TH-cam.

Flora is married to Favonius, the wind god also known as Zephyr, and her companion was Hercules. Flora achieved more prominence in the neo-pagan revival of Antiquity among Renaissance humanists than she had ever enjoyed in ancient Rome.[citation needed]

Yes, I agree! I think Svetlana Ivanova is an exceptionally gifted dancer and not nearly cherished enough.
