Don't drink wine, but working/owning a winery always looks romantic somehow. It's like the joys of working outside without the drudgery of regular farm life. Thanks Dulce - both interesting and funny.

I have a friend in California who owns a small tract of land & makes her own wines. I had absolutely no idea how much work was involved in making wine. It's really very interesting.

1) I never knew that Georgia had wineries. Dulcé, thanks for the information.
2) I'm a lifelong scotch drinker so drinking & enjoying wine was a big leap. I always told people, "Give me wine that I can taste, something substantial, something bold. I don't want to drink flavored water." I was able to find red wines that had some solid texture & flavor to them.
Believe it or not, going on wine tastings allowed me to find wines I actually liked.
Not to be dismissive, but maybe Black people aren't interested in owning vineyards because of their history of having to work as slaves, on plantations, for White people. I couldn't undertake an activity that was attached to such a painful history for my family. (eg: My heritage is German, Polish, Austrian, & Russian, & I'm Hebrew. I will never step foot in any of those countries, NEVER!)
I don't think there's a history of slaves working on vineyards in US. And I'm pretty sure there's a lot of Black farmers.
There used to be a ton of black farmers and family farms but over the generations since the end of slavery discriminatory and predatory lending practices by banks AND the US gov caused a huge number of them to go bankrupt. It is a super sad and frustrating history if you look it up. And of course whenever a modern administration tries to take steps to rectify the damage angry white farmers come out of the wood work screaming “racism against white people”
