I’m a 37yr old Fedex driver who swore by vapor max for work and I love Nike shoes, I’ve been dealing with a stress fracture for years and I absolutely had enough of dealing with it. I broke down and bought Hoka bondi 8 and absolutely fell in love, two weeks later I grabbed another pair so I could wear one for everyday wear and the gym. Today i just ordered the recovery slides 3 and now I’m here looking for more. I’m obsessed with Hoka

Had the pleasure of meeting Robbie and his friends at a state park in PA this past weekend and asked their advice for a newer runner. They spent a good 20 minutes with me giving me tips and advice. Great group of guys. Robbie is just as sweet in person as he comes across in the videos. Thanks Robbie! P.S. I personally love my Hoka Challengers ❤

The all time shoe which i think about least while running is Clifton 8.
It may not have new advancements but it is far and away the most natural feeling to me.

Finally updating your most-watched TH-cam video BY FAR?!? I admire your resistance to chasing clicks! 😂 in all seriousness these comparison videos are really helpful when all the shoes can look the same early on and you’re trying to figure out what to try first. 👍

Love my Hokas. I started with the Arahi 6s, went to the Mach 5s and am currently using the Mach Xs. As someone who isn’t a fast runner (I average 5.10/km or 8.16/mile easy pace to 4.34/km or 7.00/mile for slightly higher tempo) the Mach X is perfect. I’ve pushed it to 3.40/km or 5.44/mile during intervals of 200 metres as well. Whilst I’d love to get the Rocket X2s I’m a little concerned about the width versus my Vaporfly 3s.
Keep up the fantastic work. Your reviews are always really informative and balanced.

Great episode, thank you! HUGE Hoka fan over here. Wear the Clifton 8 for easy runs and long runs but will be hoarding on the Clifton 9 once it goes on sale, mind that in Canada, shoes are more expensive. The Mach X did not work for me though. I loved the Mach 4 and for walking I wear Arahi.

The Mach 5 was my first Hoka shoe, and it's quite narrow in the toe box. Keep that in mind when you're starting out using them.

    • @Maochan81
      @Maochan81 ปีที่แล้ว

I think it also depends on the foot shape. I went from Clifton 8 wide to Mach5 and it's a bit more snug, but i like the feeling. Definitely this generation of Hoka's seem wider.

  • @Maochan81
    @Maochan81 ปีที่แล้ว +2

I didn't see much improvement in the Clifton 9's in terms of bounciness or energy return when trying at the shop. So I switched to Mach 5 after Clifton 8's. I'm pretty impressed. They literally vanish on foot, they're so light. Still enough cushion but a lot of added bounce. Only concern is the durability of the outsole. If they hold up well for around 600km, i would say it's ok. If not, i will have to look at Mach x next time.

Good stuff! Hokas have not typically worked that well for me over the years, other than the Bondi 4. I almost picked up the Cielo road recently....but ended up going w/ the Topo cyclone 2. May have to try the Cielo at some point though...it looks sweet and I like the lower stack options.

Question: which is best for marathons?
    .
Disclaimer: I'm not a great runner and my pace is rather slow. I have terrible issues with blisters and ancle problems over a mid to long distance. My intention for the marathon is not for a good clock time, but for comfort and ease and durability on my joints and skin.
    Would appreciate any feedback.

No way my foot can tolerate a traditional Hoka pinch-toe. I'm in the (likely small) minority most interested in the new wider toed Gaviota 5, at the moment. Realize it's probably not BITR's main wheelhouse, but will be interested to see if the new G5 compares well against some other brands.

The store in L.A. on Melrose was terrible!!
The girl couldn’t have been more bored. She gave minimal answer, kept saying they didn’t have the sizes in the design we wanted.
We had to sit there and use her tablet to order online. Absolutely very very minimal service.
Then we went to the Hoka store on Abbey Kinney in Venice, California because the shoes were unsatisfactory.
Again, low inventory, didn’t have the size, minimal service.
Went to Dick’s on Hawthorne in Torrance and got exactly what we wanted without having to go online.
The Hoka stores are a joke and nobody cares because the shoes probably sell themselves. They might as well just make Hoka a kiosk if everyone has to order online.

I think its pretty simple honestly unless you’re old and live in a 55 and older community. Or love sketchers.
    1) Rocket X (race )
    2) Cielo ( every day with some 5k runs )
    3) Mach X ( trainer )
The rest are for Sketcher fans

"Recreational" runners ( I define recreational runners as anyone who doesn't get paid to run) are truly a kooky bunch. Market to them in the right way, and they'll swallow your advertisements hook, line, and sinker, and they'll buy even the most ridiculous shoes or running-related products. And the shoe manufacturers simply respond to whatever the kooky runners want.
The book Born to Run comes out, and everyone is, SUDDENLY, insisting that running barefoot prevents injuries, and, SUDDENLY, everyone is wearing Vibrams. Vibrams then gets sued for false advertising, and the barefoot running craze, slowly dies. Which brings us to the present day, where now the trend is the exact opposite of barefoot running. Today it's these massive, excessively padded, marsh mellow shoes that look ridiculous.
I'm willing to bet that if someone runs a sub 2-hr 15-min marathon with his feet wrapped in duct tape, all the kooky runners out there will follow, and, soon enough, you'll see recreational runners out there running with their feet wrapped in duct tape.
Like I said, they swallow "Hook, line, and sinker."
Here's some good advice from a person who TRULY has knowledge about feet and shoes. My podiatrist, who treats all the injuries that these kooky runners give themselves. I asked him about barefoot running, Vibrams, cushiony shoes, shoes that supposedly correct for over-pronation, shoes that offer more arch support, inserts, etc. I also asked him if I should get my gait analyzed before buying my running shoes because the running shop near my home offers gait analysis....He stopped me mid-sentence, shook his head in frustration, and his exact words were:
"WEAR WHAT'S COMFORTABLE TO YOU. Try many different shoes on. The most comfortable shoe you try on is the shoe for you. And, keep in mind that what's comfortable for you may be that $25 sneaker you find at WalMart, or it may be that fancy, colorful, $140 running shoe from the running speciality shop. ALL of that other stuff you mentioned are just marketing ploys. Buy your running shoes by COMFORT. Not by looks, and not by all of the marketing claims.
Best advice ever. Common sense. But common sense isn't all that common.

Not my cup of tea. Hokas feel unnaturally on my feet. And I don't think that two layers of simple foam might be called a kind of a technology.
I can't also try older models because they cost absolutely the same as new ones untill they just gone. Very unfriendly price policy when there are NB, Nike, Asics or Saucony on sale for almost 1/3 of the price for older versions of an each model. I, for example, have recently bought Nike Vomero 16 for 55$ and NB Rebel v3 for 45$ from official sellers. I'm not going to pay 140-160$ just for a futuristic design.
